I don't give a shtein how talented he is. He's without a doubt the biggest dickhead in sports and it's not even close.
And yet I hope he makes it to free agency and the Phillies sign him
I'd rather send him to a CIA Rendition Black Site, thanks.
If he was drafted by and played for the Phillies we'd all love him. He's exactly what they need.
i dont get why he rubs people the wrong way....hes a fleshpop but so are a ton of humans and athletes. jimmy and chase come off as dicks and they were and are despised around baseball, but loved in philly. hmmm.
hes always been more talented than everyone hes played against and that was pretty much true at 19 in major league baseball. he shouldnt have to apologize for being really good at something, or wanting to get paid as much as humanly possible. and truth be told hes been much much more mature as of late. he plays the game super hard and hes a blast to watch.
but yes, he has a dumb haircut OMG

That is 100% wrong. Cheering for a player to succeed is not the same as liking the guy.
See Papelbon, Jonathan.
Papelbon didn't come up with the Phils. He was a well established douchebag from a rival NE city long before he came to Philly. But had the Phils drafted Papsmear, the fans would have almost certainly had a different attitude towards him. If Harper were a Phillies draft pick, Billy Penn's face would have been covered in ultimate warrior eye black by now.
Papelbon is a mid 30's closer and still a douche. Harper is a budding 23 year old mega star hitter who is brash. I understand you're not comparing the two just using Papeldouche as an example of a player you can root for but not like. But my statement stands, if he was drafted by the Phillies, the fans would love him. If he signed a mega deal here same difference. You only hate him because he plays for the Nats, is arrogant, and good. It's understandable.
Hmmm... Harper or Peter Bourjos... I'll have to think about that one...

Paps is currently tied for 2nd on the Nationals/Expos career postseason saves list (0) behind the franchise's all-time leader, Drew Storen (1). It's fun to make fun of him for being a douche, but you don't just become the 2nd beat post season closer in franchise history just by showing up.

johan santana had that 130 pitch no hitter and it helped further destroy his arm.....its a tough situation but you gotta protect his arm and his career over 1 game in april. though i dont get bringing him back for the 8th only to take him out after 1 batter.
i saw the rasmus play. he didnt even attempt to slide on the base. if you want to watch neanderthals run into each other, theres always ufc.
lolol at Neanderthals
The rule is stupid and being overly enforced. The ONLY part of the rule that needs to be enforced is what Utley did last year. Late slide/barrel roll into the legs. The rest of it aka the Toronto and Houston enforcement? Get the farg outta here.
Pitch counts are stupid. I'll never get how dudes could throw so many CGs and pitches but now once they hit 100 it's end of the world.
"pitch counts are stupid" is the clubhouse leader for most ridiculous meathead j comment of the baseball season and we're not even a week in
they def aren't stupid but they certainly can be used in a stupid way....such as last night
generally with veteran guys you let them go to 120, even 130 if the situation calls for it
with young guys, limiting pitches and limiting innings as you build up arm strength has proven to be successful - to a certain extent. with certain arms, theres nothing you can do, its going to be a problem anyway (think jose fernandez, the best pitcher in baseball).
if a guy is four outs away from a no hitter and not at a million pitches you keep him in

Speaking of the O's...Arrieta was traded for who again? Lol
mainly for scott feldman. big part of the deal was getting international bonus money.
QuoteArrieta, 27, was 20-25 with a 5.46 ERA in 69 Major League appearances, all but six as a starting pitcher, in all or part of the last four seasons with the Orioles. He was a member of Baltimore's 2013 Opening Day roster and has had three stints with the big league club this season, going 1-2 with a 7.23 ERA in five starts.
arrieta going from horrible ML pitcher to cy young is pretty crazy and entirely unpredictable. sometimes you get lucky.
Would love to know what changed for him. Because you're right - going from pedestrian to stud doesn't happen very often.

Sometimes the shift works
It happens too much now. farg your analytics
yes, sometimes things with a lower probability occur.
if spray charts existed in 1945, you wouldnt be complaining about them. but i guess teams should play a less effective defense because it annoys HENTZ. ill tell baseball.

Yes, I do hate the trap in hockey.
the left wing lock in hockey zone defense in basketball and the 46 are not analogous to the shift...those first three are complete systematic strategic overhauls
there isn't a lot you can compare to the shift because the shift is solely used to take advantage of the opponents weakness rather than trying to counter an opponents strength or hide your own weakness
closest thing I can think of is maybe the hack a shaq in the nba?
im thinking of dong things differently...instead of always playing man to man or instead of always playing a 4-3 or a 3-4....or whatever hockey term
basically advancing the game past its most primitive point which, solely in baseball, drives tex nuts
I don't doubt the strategic aspects of the shift and it works 95% of the time but I still hate it...id make a rule that the ss cant cross second base...its hard enough to hit a baseball as it is

actually you easily could...also you aren't telling where a player needs to be just where he cant go...kind of like how a player in football cant line up offsides
ted Williams was maybe the greatest hitter of all time...that's a horrible example....again 95% of the time the shift is on it works...its kind of like cbb where they don't advance the ball and what you end up with is a team trying to score a game winning shot and having to go the length of the court in 1-3 seconds to do it...takes all the drama out of the game...that's why I hate the shift you pretty much know the result before it happens
I get argument that the batter should be better its the same argument hack a shaq defenders use...just hit your free throws...which I cant argue against...its valid...but imo I think both the shift and hack a shaq make their respective games worse and id rather not watch either one
Technically you can put seven fielders down the first base line if you want, or put them all on the warning track. Or everyone can switch positions after every pitch.
The positions (other than pitcher and catcher) were never something that were mandated, they evolved. I see no reason to prevent further evolution of the game by forcing fielders into (or out of) certain areas.

Caught from the 8th inning on. Intersting to see if the Cubs can keep this up.

And now we are subjected to yet another Yankees and Red Sox game
future phillie bryce harper is not a bad person?

Cool gesture. Good for him.
Bitch got high that night.
Strasburg 7yrs $175m
and on cue dusty running stras out for another inning, including hitting him with 1st and a 3rd and 0 out down a run so he could bunt. stras walks miggy and is pulled.
what the farg was the point you senile moron. cant wait until he fails, again, in october.
Lol I thought the same thing
Miggy is hurting damn
And he was safe
Called out
Reply shows safe but they stay with the out call
zesty MLB
nats are going to be a joke in 2018 when bryce is in philly and stras/scherz are walking DL stints
the rest of the nl east is going to be insane though
Harper thrown out for arguing from the dugout
And then the Nats walk it off
farg
Yooooo that's interference!!
Maybe not. Damn.
And Brycie goes big "farg you" to Marquez while celebrating
Dope
this guy is so god damn philly its not even funny
they will throw out the statue of that racist lunatic carlton and replace with bryce

i joke about the philly stuff, but the read on bryce i get is he wants to be the biggest swinging dick ever and to do so, he would need to go to ny
nationals will match any offer for him and the nats boras connection is crazy strong so that maybe they wont even have to
I would be kinda surprised if he even makes it to FA
bet? 50 on whether he leaves or not
youll likely be dead by then so this will be moot
yeah ill definitely take that 50...I mean I really do think he stays but id pay 500 for him to leave so its a no lose bet

Bautista will have either his legs or skull broken before long.

They're playing zesty and about to blow an 8-0 lead to Minny
Odor's punch on Bautista was epic. Dude was shook. Flip that bat now, bitch.
Don't know about Ausmus, but Fredi is Gone-zalez (http://m.braves.mlb.com/news/article/178615590/braves-dismiss-fredi-gonzalez).

how bad is the albert pujols contract
One of the worst ever
There will be a lot more like that too.
good stark piece on pace of play http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/15581044
my fixes
-teams have 30 seconds after the conclusion of each play to challenge
-all challenges are capped at 90 seconds, except beyond the 9th inning
-teams get a set amount of mound conferences per game (both coach/pitcher and pitcher/catcher). im not sure what the fair number would be, maybe 5? but if a team is past its limit and the pitcher and catcher cant get on the same page....tough shtein
-teams get a set amount of mid-inning pitching changes. maybe 3 a game. a pitcher could still be removed mid-inning due to injury, but if he is removed, he becomes ineligible from playing for the next 3 games. this will protect against a guy faking an injury to come out.
you cant stop guys from pulling a nomar garciaparra routine between pitches or deep counts or tons of fouls but you can limit the stuff around it.
I actually agree with you.
Mainly on the time of the reviews and the conferences on the mound.
Catcher comes out - ump walks to get him
Pitching coach comes out as soon as they all get back to home
I drink bleach
these are some real easy things to police and would actually make the game 1000x better....its basically like a timeout. id be willing to give teams 60 seconds for each one, but you cant have catchers going out to talk to pitchers 5 different times during an at bat, or those dumb stall games teams play to get a relief pitcher ready
be prepared to play or throw the next pitch
there should be no challenges period..there should be booth reviews on scoring plays and late game or late close games
definition of late and/or close will have to be determined
we don't need a review of a pick off attempt in the second inning
rip matt harvey
Yeah he's been pretty zesty this year
Oh and Dusty has Strasburg batting up 8 runs and at 110 pitches
i think he did that just to do it....games over hes just letting his man bat
dusty knew i needed the QS so once stras got out of the 6th he wasnt coming back in. dude im playing this week had berrios and harvey. rack em up for ol toddly.
Your league gives points for QS?
Clown stat bro
i successfully lobbied to have QS replace Wins and OBP to replace AVG....a truly impressive accomplishment for logic and reason
next year i want an NA spot for minor leaguers
QS is farging stupid
6IP with 3ER or less?
Pfffft
no stat is perfect. 3/6 shouldnt rewarded, but thats about the only beef i have with it.
you can score 4 runs via reaching base 4 times off errors....you can hit a pop up that catches some wind and hits the flower beds at the bank for a homer....you can knock in 3 runs when an outfielder loses the ball in the lights....you can steal a base off a terrible jump if the catcher makes a terrible throw....you can get a win if your team scores 20 runs even though you gave up 6 runs in 5 innings....you can get a save up 3 runs against the bottom of the braves order....do i need to go on
Speaking of lil guys WAR stat
Price Grienke and Heyward have a combined negative one
Three huge FA deals
But yeah Heyward was worth that money right?
its always a smart thing to judge 7 year commitments 2 months in
He's not going to live up to the deal
It's ok to say I'm right
he was never going to...very few players can or do
the cubs print money and all their good players are young and cheap. they stole a player away from their arch rival. they could probably release him tomorrow and never feel it. it was a why not signing, nothing more nothing less.
$187m isn't a why not signing
Whether stealing from a rival or not
it absolutely is....they didnt need him and knew they didnt.
the phillies are going to be in the same boat in 18. they had more money to spend then they knew what to do with, so they threw a bunch of it at a good 25 year old outfielder. thus far, he hasnt performed up to par. theres still 4+ months and 6+ years left. this isnt david price at 30 losing a few mph on his fastball.
but fun topic!
Hopeful the lousy performances of all these big contract dudes will slow the roll of the crazy salaries
lol youre adorable
first off who cares how much these guys make. go out and get yours. second if you dont like big FA contracts do not pay attention during the 18 offseason, specifically to your favorite team
Phillies would NEVER make a bad signing
Nice try, pal
But they would and will and certainly have
Jayson Werth's $126M deal looks quaint compared to the deals these clowns are giving out now. That contract was absurd and he never lived up to the deal, and neither will Heyward.
All that said, I hope the Phillies aren't shy about doling similar deals; I just hope they're smarter than the other teams on to whom they give them.

what is the point in trolling the best player in baseball
Why not? farg him
Can we laugh at Matt Harvey too?
sure...he validly sucks this year
harper is going through a slump adjusting to the fact that hes now barry bonds, but his numbers are still really good if you discount something fairly random like avg
And here is where lil Theo Beane discounts batting average
Avg and RBI mean shtein in this twisted world of yours eh?
lets have this discussion!
rbi is a team stat. you need players on base in order to knock in runs. its not an utterly pointless barometer of success, but it can be very misleading and unequal because, say, freddie freeman and david ortiz (two middle of the order hitters), do not see even close to the same kind of opportunities. i dont see how this is hard to comprehend.
average, specifically this early in the season, is very random. a 4/4 day from bryce tomorrow bumps his number up like 15 or 20 points or something. then thered be no MOCK. but with average you really have to first look at thousands of at bats to get a true understanding of a hitters capabilities. not to mention, luck and random chance is factored into the game. bloops, bleeders, swinging bunts, questionably scored hits, etc. then theres great defensive plays, park factors (i.e. a 330 foot drive being a homer in 1 park and an out in another). exit velocity is an interesting thing to look at...that pretty much tells you the type of contact a player has off the bat -- typically hard hit balls result in hits (really?). but its not even perfect. look who the leader is.
http://m.mlb.com/statcast/leaderboard#avg-hit-velo
I was at the game at Fenway tonight but left in the 6th to watch the NBA game. Not a single bar in this terrible city is playing it on a single tv. Red Sox on all 9000 screens. Finally got one place to change it for me and people booed.
How do we feel about making the intentional walk automatic? I wasn't really looking for that particular way to speed up the game. I'm going to miss teams farging them up.
Also I'm kinda annoyed that batters never seemed to embrace the strategy of swinging at a few of those. I guess they didn't want to look stupid, but it isn't the worst plan. Up the pitch count, see if you can goad the pitcher into throwing real pitches, and maybe even connect like Miggy did on that sloppy IBB attempt a few years ago.

should be automatic...the four pitch ibb makes the old extra point feel like an inside the park homer...its utterly useless
Agreed. Automatic ibb is fine.
Now cut down the farging commercial times between innings too
the length of baseball games has never bothered me....I just think the 4 pitch ibb is stupid
its a sport meant to be enjoyed over the long haul...where you can take a nap in the middle of the game and only miss a few innings...where you have a good 2.5 hrs before beer sales get cut off...sit outside and shoot the shtein with a bunch of friends all afternoon...etc

youre mr. old school cranky old fart dont change anything about the game and you want the auto ibb....what
also the commercial length has little to do with the length of game. talk to king joe maddon about his 100 pitching changes.
I never had a problem with the length of games. Fine with doing away with the intentional walk, but what is there maybe one per game...so you're saving about 1 minute, big shtein.
cutting down the length of game would require changes to the strike zone (done, i guess) and limiting pitching changes and mound conferences.
the ancillary things like reviews and tv commercials are easy things for the twittersphere to blab about, but they do little to contribute to the overall length
back to bat flips...like this one. predictably the pitcher gets all butthurt cause he got taken deep. boohoo make a better pitch next time.

I'm finding the whole Ichiro hits controversy to be quite amusing. You have "analysts" screeching that the hits record doesn't really count because the first 1300 or so were in the Japan leagues.
I'm fairly certain that if he had started in the Majors at the same time he did in Japan, those same hits would have occurred. The guy was a farging machine.
I'm fairly certain that your current employer doesn't give a farging about how well you performed at your previous job.
Do his Japan hits count? Sure. In Japan. Don't mean doodie in MLB.
Someone forgot his Alzheimer's meds.
the hilarious part of it is that i don't think there is a single person in the country at least not one that i have seen who thinks the hits in japan count and is claiming ichiro holds any kind of real record....so i don't really get why some people are upset about it
MLB hit record is for MLB
HOF Rose is still the king
ichiro will always be a fun what if game....what if he had spent his 22-27 year old seasons in mlb, not japan. how close would he be?
i have no problem unofficially considering him the hits king. pete rose is a top 5 worst human ever. hank aaron still unofficially is the hr king.
When you look at the stats, it's easy to project that Ichiro would have more hits than Rose if he was in the MLB system the whole time. He wasn't though, so who cares?
Rose is the Hit King. In every other sense, including as a complete baseball player and as a human being, Ichiro is better and it's not particularly close. Ichiro won't begrudge the old icehole his record.
So wait, are you dumbasses really suggesting that if Ichiro was in the Majors during those years he played in Japan, he wouldn't have been at least equally successful hitting the ball? I mean really?
In a 12 year stretch from the ages of 27 to 36 he averaged 224 hits per year.
As a 37 yr-old he had 184 hits and as a 38 yr-old he had 178.
Pete Rose is and has always been scum. I have no problem calling Ichiro the hit king.
Yeah projection schmection...he wasn't in the USA so it doesn't matter

The Yankees, who are pushing to playing younger players, are contractually obligated to pay Rodriguez the remainder of his $21 million salary for this season and the $21 million he is owed for 2017.

they have a great chance to win this year, although im sure stras' arm will fall off and dusty will do some dusty things.
theyre a pretend franchise so it wouldnt hurt me in the least if they won....but it would destroy havas and make your twitter life hell so for that i say NATITUDE
Yeah I don't have any Nats presence on my Twitter really
Nice try tho

number of people in texas who care about nl east baseball: 0

lol you are the biggest middle american sports fan ever
the phillies and nationals have played exactly 0 meaningful games against each other. one fan base is the goat, one fan base is nonexistent. in fact the phillies really dont have an arch rival. the mets are the closest thing. cards/cubs, yanks/sox, doyer/giants....phillies/nats!
Quite simply you don't know what you're talking about
explain to me how the phillies and nationals have some kind of huge rivalry. what memorable games have they played against each other? what year where they both fighting for the division? how many times have their fans taken over the bank? you like the eagles and are aware of what they have against the other teams in that division. you pretend to like the flyers and are at least cognitively aware of what they have against the rangers and penguins.
now compare that to the phillies and the farging nationals.
Inter-division, fella. That's a natural rivalry. Plus, for the most part, fans of the Nats are fans of the football team (ex Havas) so you have that rivalry there too.
So basically...you're wrong. Sorry it doesn't fit into your "omg everything is lame" narrative, Trump.

in no sport does a division automatically make a rivalry...and in this case there is zero rivalry
the closest it ever came and it wasn't close was when the phils fans would take over nats park when the nats sucked....and even then it was completely one sided...like 10% of the nats fanbase hated the Phillies
werth even tried to make one when he went to dc....no one cared and his attempt failed
Most hated team by Phillies fans is the Mets, followed by the Phillies themselves (clearly the organization's biggest enemy over the previous 130 years). After that it's a big drop-off and you probably go outside the division before you get to the Marlins and Expos.
you might get some lingering jealousy over the 90s braves....but more people in philly hate the red sox and yankees over the marlins and expos/nats.
now if youll excuse me, im going to reminisce about that legendary eagles/cardinals rivalry
yeah I don't get j's hate on the nats/harper. its off the charts.

There's the Mets then everyone else.
Tampa is more of a bitter rival than the Nats and that's only because of the 2003 NFCCG.
The Nats are and will always continue to be an afterthought to me.
I remember when the Pirates were a big rival. Yeah, I'm old...
I enjoy the continued suffering of all Washington teams, but mostly because there's a lot of overlap with the insufferable fans of their NFL franchise and because I personally dislike the city a lot. So I'll be rooting against the Nats in the playoffs. I'll also be rooting against the Cubbos because I enjoy them being permanent lovable sadsacks. But if either the Cubs or Nats win, big deal. Oh no! Durrrr the pitch count is up!
when its your child's arm come and talk to me
and pitch counts have nothing to do with analytics. do you know what the word analytics means?
Yes I do
And it's the analytics force driving the pitch counts
I'd be pissed if my kid was spoon fed pitch counts.
you are ridiculously uneducated on this. its not analytics. its medicine. its science. its biology. its doctors and surgeons and medical professionals driving this, not an executive with an MBA from yale.
if you had a kid and did not care about how many pitches he threw at age 12 or 13 then you would be grossly negligent and irresponsible. its a very serious issue. you sound, like an anti-vaxer.
I'm not taking about pre-teens, knucklehead.
Want to tell me why people's arms didn't explode back in the pre-pitch count days? A logical explanation please.
because they werent throwing as much, as hard or with the same kind of force. also there was limited to no advanced medicine, no x-rays, etc. so pitchers used to pitch through ridiculous injuries and arm ailments that they do not do now.
the talent in the game has gotten so much better over the past 2 decades that the requirements to be an effective pitcher puts an insane amount of strain and pressure on the arm. a lot dont hold up. the idea is to work pitchers up to throwing 250+ innings in a year. the idea is to limit their innings and pitches when working their way back from injury or an extended rest (see hill tonight).
if you want to disagree with people who study the human arm for a living, keep going. im sure they value the opinion of the best god damn lumbar salesman in houston.
Well I am the best in the city...so thanks!
And for the record I'm not saying let a dude throw 150 back to back on three days. But this whole hit xx amount and he's yanked without question is stupid.
no, its not. yes theres no difference between 85 and 86, but hill has had a massive amount of arm issues this season and in his career.
its not like he got pulled with 2 outs in the 9th because he hit some magic number. challenging science is not a good look. just stop.
Ok sorry Dr Andrews

In the bigs, they were absolutely throwing just as much, if not more than they do now. The difference is that back in the day when Nolan Ryan was a kid, he didn't have traveling teams and baseball camp and private workouts with professional coaches etc, etc, etc....so by the time he got to the majors, his arm probably has less mileage on it than a college senior today.
Quoteas hard or with the same kind of force.
False. There were probably less freaks back in the 60s or 70s that could get in the high 90s or higher, but pitchers are generally throwing as hard today and with the same velocity as they did 40 years ago.
Quotealso there was limited to no advanced medicine, no x-rays, etc. so pitchers used to pitch through ridiculous injuries and arm ailments that they do not do now.
I don't even know what this means. The medical advancements today do nothing to prevent injuries. The reason why guys weren't on pitch counts back in the day is because (as already stated) they weren't overworked as kids. Their muscles got to develop naturally and healthily. No excessive workouts and weight lifting and protein shakes and supplements. Just a steady diet of meat and potatoes and booze and playing ball.
Quotethe talent in the game has gotten so much better over the past 2 decades
Gotta disagree there. Athleticism has gotten better, talent is probably about the same.

This is the first thing you said that makes sense.
Crazy ass little league schedules and AAU type teams playing all the time and weight lifting programs for 10 year olds is why they get to the majors and blow out their arms. I certainly don't fault ML teams for wanting to protect the health of their players. Maybe if greedy fargs weren't trying to develop the next Nolan Ryan or Sandy Koufax from kindergarten, we'd see a lot fewer arm and shoulder injuries in the bigs.

exactly. the adults threw more when their arms were matured and developed, but they came in with less mileage. thats the point. kids come into the bigs with major arm issues because they threw too many innings at 15, 16, etc.
QuoteFalse. There were probably less freaks back in the 60s or 70s that could get in the high 90s or higher, but pitchers are generally throwing as hard today and with the same velocity as they did 40 years ago.
i was referring to pre 1950s era, but it still applies. mph is only one factor. throwing 99 isnt enough. its throwing 94 on a cut fastball. its throwing a breaking ball 85. force isnt just speed.
QuoteI don't even know what this means. The medical advancements today do nothing to prevent injuries. it means that pitchers would have farged up arms but still pitch because they were hard as shtein rust belt farm dudes and not Hoydas from so cal named cole hamels.
QuoteGotta disagree there. Athleticism has gotten better, talent is probably about the same.
youre just way off here. the talent level is insane. doofy white men slap hitters were a staple of baseball for 70 years. theyre gone now because juan and jose from the dominican are 1000x better. talent is pulled in from all over the world. it wasnt before. before that you had to be white.

T-Mac doesn't have the reputation stain of backstabbing Kalas and Ashburn that Wheeler did (right or wrong).

i know some people that like him

Agreed. It's been in the b block because of Palmer. SC last night did about 30-45 min combined at the top of the show.
Such a sad story. It's comparable to Pedro dying in his early prime
The 1pm NFL games were already the main headline on ESPN.com by the time they came on.
In regards to media coverage, he couldn't have died at a worse time. He's "competing" for headlines against:
CFB
NFL
Vin Sully
Arnold Palmer
MLB playoff races
He also played in an awful baseball market, on a team that's out of contention, and was brown.
he also has the ultimate generic hispanic name...he could be any one of a thousand baseball players...i know him really really well obviously and when my cousin told me at tailgate yesterday that jose fernandez died i had to stop and compute the name in my head for a good 10 seconds to realize who it was
probably less than 3% of americans know who he is....i wonder if he even has a Q rating
nobody knew who he was
the nytimes headline was "jose fernandez, a top baseball pitcher, dies"
so they had to mention his occupation in the headline. they wouldnt do that for peyton manning.

why is Ernie losing his voice over the sox...it's almost as embarrassing as you guys cheering for chooch like he's a Phillie
because the thought of indians/jays ratings is giving him depression
boston gets swept and the fans immediately go into a big papi chant
what a disgrace
Big Papi is still a roid head
Lolol
Here's the sports director to tell us what's really up.
Rangers most fraudulent playoff team ever? I mean they weren't great but there's teams who have been worse.
And Allah forbid that people get happy to see Ruiz jack one

Pet peeve: When teams do a champagne celebration after a playoff win. They only do it in Baseball. It was farging lame when the Phils did it during their run. Should be reserved for Pennant win and WS win. That's all.
rangers had a minus run differential no other 95 win team in MLB history and there is like 95 of them were less than +65....but TEXAS!

agree....there should be a minor one for the pennant then the big one for the series
why there is one for winning the wild card or the division series is beyond me
I stopped when MLB actually issued the winning players Wild Card Champions t-shirts and caps.

Cubs year
Bumgarner is human after all
as bad as the tbs ratings will be thats how good theyll be for fs1
game 2 on farging bumass mlb network got 4.5 mil....game 1 on fs1 nearly set a record for highest rated game ever for them. nlcs will crush it for them -- but i would expect to see a game or three moved to big fox.
WOW!
Didn't expect Arrieta to yank one damn
Maybe Bumgarner off of him

How in the farg did they call him safe?!
On reply!!
Foot off the bag
wonder what the phils can do to get soler
baez is outrageous....they are committed to zobrist and heyward....rizzo, bryant, russell always play.....schwarber and contreras play catcher and can also mix in at corner OF
theres just nothing for soler.
And in soft batch SF the crowd murmurs a boo
In a real city they'd still be booing and have posted the umps home address online
a million World Series titles tends to limit the boos
Oh ok.
you cheered a dodger player hard tonight because he was a Phillie now the giant fans are punks for not booing actual giants who won a bunch of WS

how do you not hate the Cubs?
i have no opinion about the cubs....they are just another team to me, like the brewers or the padres. great sports city, though. sick of the billy goat crap but the only way it goes away is if they win one. so let them win one.
I used to not hate them. The lovable losers thing was ok. I wanted them to win in 03 and felt bad for Bartman (and still do).
But they've become insufferable. Like they've got some right to win.

im sure they will, but the little obsession around them will end once they win
let them have their stupid world series then they become the NL red sox

Could not agree more. We were going wild in traffic watching on phone. WTF was he thinking? He was playing as if he knew the Giants would win it in the ninth. If they had tied this up what was left in the bullpen for extra innings? Not even La Russa went this nuts overmanaging.

You didn't find it ridiculous that a 4 year old kid is roaming around a major league clubhouse during the World Series? It almost backfired on him. Had JT Snow not grabbed the kid in the nick of time he'd have been dead as there was a Giants player hauling ass towards home. Is he managing a team on the biggest stage or is he running a day care center?
He's proven he blows as a manager as he's screwed the Giants, Cubs, Reds and now Nats in playoffs.
Actually, the Giants player coming home behind Snow was basically jogging at that point. There was no play at the plate. Was there a pretty epic brain fart, or a series of brain farts that led to a kid being in the field of play? Sure. Is that the reason to start disliking someone? Not in my opinion, but whatever floats your boat, I guess.

honestly never even thought about it and didnt even remember it happening until you mentioned it...my recollection of the general reaction to it was that people thought it was funny or cute....just seems so weird to lose respect for dusty baker over something as innocent as that much less still being angry about it 15 years later...its not like he purposely sent his kid out there to farg with the opposing teams base runner...

this would obviously be such a huge split for la....i thought for sure cubs were going to win the first two
i take back what i said....they want kershaw to go in game 5 and pulled him early to keep him as fresh as possible
im guessing what theyre hoping is to grind out either 3 or 4, win 5 with kershaw, then hope for some billy goat magic back in chicago in 6 or 7
dont usually believe in momentum or confidence in baseball since its such an individualized sport but this win is one exception...to come out of wrigley tied with a team that was that good in the reg season is so big for them
Great game and a huge win for LA
I expect Toronto to come out tomorrow and play well too. Although Bautista talking jive today about conspiracies on bad strike zones was weird
Bauer's finger is a mess

Traveling for work with a group

nba conference finals are on cable

these sports dont warrant the interest levels needed to be on broadcast. well, except for cfb, they unsurprisingly took the money.

it was available at the venetian in vegas, but obviously not j's seedy MA crapshack
Fs1 and NFLN isn't available at the Venetian or palazzo and they don't even have HD
But yeah you're right fs1 is distributed enough. Nevermind called after caller on the MLB radio saying they don't get it
im almost certain it was there, and nfln, but i wasnt in vegas to sit in the room and watch tv. so who cares.
the sample size of dumb callers to some radio show has no bearing on the fact that the channel is available in 85 million homes. the bigger cable stations have over 90. its not as highly distributed as them, sure, but its not some obscure station.
i mean i hate the fox corporation and would like to see them disintegrate but short of that i dont understand the complaints.
It's not in the rooms and that's by design. They don't want you in your rooms watching games.
Indians bullpen is taxed and Kluber is going on short rest. Closing out today would be huge for them.
mlb better get on renegotiating all their mlb tv deals so people can watch the game in their vegas hotel rooms 17 feet away from 4000 sports books
Yeah I have no beef whatsoever with them not having it on in Vegas hotel rooms. A small portion of people spend time in their rooms there.
But Rudy Martzke Jr here seems to think it's just fine that the LCS is on a network that doesn't have max exposure.
MLB could put the World Series on Oprah's channel and he'd defend it
he has some insane notions regarding tv related stuff but hes right on this
people have to actually watch something for it to get max exposure whatever max exposure means....fs1 like lil guy said is in 85 million homes....i think one playoff game so far has even had two million viewers and the lcs get btwn 2-2.5 mil...fs1 is a perfectly acceptable channel for these to be on
if enough people cared about these games then it would be on regular fox but the fact is they dont and you cant expect a broadcast network to bump a much higher rated program for a baseball game no one watches

the jays/injuns game got 2 mil on saturday but the cubs are doing much better than that. the games will average around 5-7 mil, with games 6-7 likely getting into double digits if they happen. typically, with an average matchup (jays/indians is horrible and cubs/dodgers is great), the games will do like 3-4 mil.
but overall, yes, if more people cared about baseball their games would be on broadcast or espn wouldve been interested in a playoff package. but the best offer they got was from fox.

thankfully you cleared that up for jay.
I wonder how many more years we'll have to talk about not being able to watch content that we want to watch. Seems real antiquated when you look at the way virtually all other content is being distributed nowadays. I understand why live sports is the last holdout, but at some point the number of 70 year old men with the last cable connections in the neighborhood buying Miller Lite after watching the ads between innings won't be able to sustain this anymore.

until you can point a remote at a laptop thats hooked up to a 60 inch monitor and be able to flip thru all the stations you currently have on cable this is not likely to happen anytime soon or maybe ever
lots of sports fans want to lay on their couch and flip btwn the nba game on tnt to the nfl game on cbs to the nhl game on the center ice package and then during commericals of those games flip thru the hbo's to see whats poppin then to tbs for a possible KOQ episode
Bring able to rapidly switch between games will be in the hands of the masses within five years, and basically already is if you know what you're doing. And yes, everything I watch is on a 60 inch TV.
Scripted TV shows are watched when people want to watch them, not when some TBS programmer decides it's time to stream S3E12 of KOQ.
I know you love the last channel button but that's not going to sustain a multibillion dollar empire when hardly anyone under 30 has cable.
it may not sustain it but cable tv isnt going away in our lifetimes primarily because of this reason

true
like newspapers they will hang around in some form, but they will be almost exclusive to old people, bars and hotels. channels will fold and consolidate. but the medium will still exist. the question is how will sports be delivered on streaming. will you be able to buy the espn/fs1/tbs app for $5 a month? will they be bundled and packaged together basically like cable is now? that im not sure of.
also last night: baseball 4 mil, nfl 8 mil

Dodgers vs Indians series coming up?
they need 1 more since doyers will win the kershaw game
cant believe cubs bats are this bad
Yeah they're not hitting shtein
Is kris Bryant in the lineup? Rizzo?
Who starts next for Cleveland?
I imagine Tomlin for g6 and Kluber for g7.
If they make the series with all their sp injuries that's impressive
What a year for Cleveland. NBA championship, World Series, and #1 and #2 in the NFL draft.

Dodgers vs Indians here we come
Francisco Lindor hit .368 in the LCS, the rest of the Indians: .138.
Their .168 BA is the lowest by a team that won a postseason series.
bullpens win championships...have for a while
yup and whats amazing is outside of these last 2 they basically did it with 2 guys
the royals and giants in their wins came out you with depth and multiple arms
Miller has 20 IP with 3bb and 31k's
Cubs are now scoreless in their last 20 innings
j what do you think about the alcs starting at 400
what happens if thats the phillies and the yankees get 800.
I didn't mind it because I wasn't stuck in an office the last few days and could see it

I'd like the folks who were trying to sell me on the deal given to Jason Heyward to please raise their hands.
nobody was trying to sell you on it....i think we tried to explain it rationally and that wasnt good enough
every single against lester is a double if you can run even a little
It's amazing to me that as a lefty he struggles so hard
But then again it was equally amazing to me when guys like Mackey Sasser and Dale Murphy had the yips with throwing the ball back to the pitcher but could throw elsewhere normally.

its not about him being worth it, its about the cubs having more money than they know what to do with and having nothing to lose by signing him. plus it pissed off the cardinals.
not to mention he has like 5 or 6 years left and can turn it around
I suppose if they win they won care about carrying that dead weight deal.
Kluber's two seamer is on fire so far
they wont care either way....all of their young talent is dirt cheap right now and by the time they get expensive heyward will be at the end of his deal or itll be over.
they have a 5 year window to go crazy without repercussion and go crazy they did. the phillies are now in this boat and once they figure out who they want to build behind they can start throwing stupid money at guys that arent worth it. cant wait for your hot takes!
unfortuntely the phillies will be overpaying guys and putting them in a mix of garbage...the cubs can sign heyward and put him in a mix with young all stars and mvp candidates
Kluber just made history

It worked out, sure. But even Smoltz wondered if they should've lifted him.
miller has been unhittable and they need kluber for 4 and 7....i dont see how anyone could question it
pretty obvious move and 2 base runners aside pretty obvious result
and if you dont lift him and they come back you left randy johnson on your bench...bottom line is its never stupid to bring that guy into the game...he farging dirty as shtein
I know he's filthy as farg but so was Kluber
And one more inning doesn't stop him from 4 & 7, Beane.

It's been sickening to hear Cubs Cubs Cubs.
And hey guess what?! Did you know that Kyle Schwarber last played on 07 April and worked sooooo hard to make this miraculous comeback?! Cool story I just heard today.
This strike zone...Jesus

lol it looked so real tho...i bet someone would have tried to cash it if they got a hold of it
No doubt I was scared it may fall into the wrong hands
Which pitcher leaves one up first? Both doing a good job of keeping it down so it can't get into that left field jet stream
Napoli is going to end up arguing tonight
This zone is tough

Ball
cant get a hit if you dont swing the bat....twice now with a risp they have went down looking
It was bad, but for as many times as catchers are able to pull the ball into the zone and get a strike called on a ball, this was a rare case of the opposite happening.

And in reading the autopsy reports the two others seemed to have ingested a lot of blood and water as their stomachs were full of it whereas Fernandez was seemingly dead fairly quick because he didn't have water and blood in his lungs and stomach. He also had an enlarged heart which may have become an issue had he survived.

Ok he's at 72 through 5.
If he keeps this up and can go 8 I let him

eight?....no chance he goes 8 if hes at 72 now unless the cubs throw out like 10 horrid at bats over the next three innings

if he has an easy 9th they should be able to use him for 2ish innings tomorrow...remember they can use lester out of the pen, too

Still being dense. I know how they were sold pal. My point is as an Indians fan don't list your farging tickets.

jason heyward still plays baseball? cool.
Yep and a couple of the fellas here will even tell you he's worth $180m
My god
He got picked off
Baserunning blunders from both teams now. Nerves.
Why the hell would Schwarber think he could turn 2? His fat ass isn't even allowed in the field because of his knee.

Bc he "stole" that base in the first. Tricked himself into thinking he could make it
Glad they called that safe...no way that was an out

Rumor has it that Cleveland had a Billy Goat chewing on the infield grass earlier today
Rumor has it Rajai Davis is having a horrific inning
CF play has doomed them the last two nights
Yeah, he def screwed the pooch on those plays. Doesn't Cleveland have a left handed 1st baseman they could throw in the field and put Napoli at DH? A leftie almost certainly makes a better throw to 2nd and keeps the dp going...inning over right there.
The other 1B is Santana and he's a righty
Kluber gets lit again.
4-1
tito has been good all postseason but i said out loud 'what the hell' when i switched back and kluber was out for the 5th
And Maddon is gonna yank Hendricks
Over managing
you really gotta feel bad for cleveland if just one of carrassco or salazar isnt hurt then they dont have to run kluber into the ground like they did
unless cleveland tightens this game up this series for having monster story lines and going 7 games was pretty underwhelming
Agreed on both
The fact they made it where they did without Carrasco and Salazar is impressive.
I especially hope this quick hook blows up on Maddon
Holy farg!
That's crazy
What a job by Kipnis
Ross and Lester being cold is a youuuuge story here
And Ross gets one back! Takes Miller deeeep
Btw hate the teams wearing the alternate jerseys tonight
Game 7 should be classic home whites and road grays
Cubbies bats are on fire. Jobu must have moved to Chicago.
Should've gotten him a live chicken
Holy redemption
Omfggggggg
Rajaiiiiiiiiii
Cleveland fans finally woke up. it's sounded like a home game for the Cubs since Fowler led off
I'm cookoo for coco crisp
This farging guy can't throw a strike now
And it's raining
Can't believe he's sending Chapman back out there.
Me either
Da fuq is wrong with him?
PS - if Mike Mike walks this off at some point....world ending
well now mike mike needs to hit a walk off bomb
And let's go back to t9...he has Baez try a safety squeeze with two strikes
Stupid
lol delayed for hours or a day?
By the way, Joe Maddon loves these WS rain delays...
jayson stark since its over in 10 minutes
also i sort of feel like crap and would love to go to bed butttttttttttt nope
Rain delay? That was like the 9th inning stretch. Damn that was a quick one.
Who the heck do the Cubs send out now to pitch bottom 10th?
some good drama here
It's raining runs right now.
That's ballgame there

billy goat reverse jinx: bitter barry edition
I can't wait to see how Chicago blows this in the btm of the inning.
and it all comes down to michael martinez
oh sweet lord please hit a walk off
Mike Mike gonna end this.....one way or the other
Come on Mike Mike!
dammit mike mike
welp, thats what mike mike does
go cubs go
Consistency is the key, Mike Mike. Keep it up.
What a farging game.
best baseball game since 2011 game 6 rangers/cards....perhaps better.
Yeah it's close but I say a little better
Btw what did David Ross do to become baseball Jesus in Chicago?

Bars in Chicago were charging $50 cover last night to watch that game. That's reason enough for me to never cheer for a Chicago team under any circumstance.
So... farg CHICAGO.
the only reason you would have done so to begin with is gone now anyway. 108 and counting ?
Well, I do like Chicago style hot dogs. So there's that.
I'm just tired of hearing how long it's been since those poor people celebrated a championship.
You know, other than the Super Bowl, the Stanley Cups, the brazillion NBA Jordans, oh and the White Sox WFC from 10 yrs ago.
Boo farging hoo.

im suprised it was only 50...they were charging 250 at wrigleyville bars for the home games
speaking of their hot dogs...i cant recall the name of the bar but the times ive been to wrigley to see the phils i always go to this place that has free hot dogs...and they are farging phenomenal...not ghetto ass dogs like youd think free ones would be...but like the best ballpark dog ive ever had (shea stadium) steamed in the bun wrapped in foil....farg they were good and i still cant believe free
Thought I said it earlier, but farg the Cubs.
I had practically no rooting interest in this series....reasons to root for and against both teams that were pretty much a wash. At least now we can stop hearing stories about Bartman and Billy Goats and poor, unfortunate Cubs fans every year so I guess that's really the best thing to come out of all this. Congrats Cubs fans, you just lost the 1 thing that made you relevant.
The only thing worse than miserable whiny loser Red Sox fans are arrogant insufferable winner Red Sox fans.
Point is if you think Cubs fans were bad before, just wait.
can we become arrogant insufferable winner philly fans ? please ?
the reactions from the old heads was really cool....the 80 and 90 year olds who have been waiting for this for forever
the regular dude reactions were fine....about the same as any other title
the reactions from wrigleyville were abhorrent and those are getting the most play. if youre such a huge cubs fan, why are you standing outside wrigley field with no tv during game 7 of the world series? oh i know, youre an attention seeking millennial who wants to post a cool picture to snapchat so your dumb friends can favorite it. farg people.
at least this story is over and we can stop with 1908 billy goat talk for the rest of eternity.
☝️️ This is actually your best post ever. ☝️️
cub fans are actually super nice when you go to the games...midwest middle american nice
red sox fans are a toxic mixture of big city northeast dickheadedness and new england pomposity
And don't forget a dose of Boston racism
That gravesite story was awesome.
My pop got to see 80 and was convinced he'd never see another one. He got to see 08 and died six months later. He was the first person I called that night they won.

I called Vuke's widow.
Called her name while cranking one out?
Cub fans have been the best fans to be around for my whole life. Knowledgeable, nice, and they travel all over.
I do worry that this win will cause that to no longer be the case. They won't go full Red Sox, but I could see them morphing into Cards fans now that the bandwagon is loaded up. That was the main reason I was pulling for the Indians, although the media being totally in the tank for the Cubs was a close second.

You don't know how bad I want an extinction level event to happen to Philadelphia right now. :boom
Actually, in reality, I'm over it. If the schmuck Dodgers can't get out of the NLCS, they don't deserve it. Philly earned the right both times. Congrats on rooting for a winner.
We've celebrated one championship in 33 years. Your graciousness in permitting us to celebrate it is what makes life worth living.

its impossible for j to like anyone on a team that plays in the same division as a team he likes
mccutchen is 30 and had just had an ops 50 points better than domonic browns career average....they can have him
Yep
Pretty much if you end up on a division rival you can farg off

Nats are trying to land Chris Sale too
they would have to give up giolito and ross for him...i dont think theyre trading turner for anything
local reports here saying nats have already moved on from bryce harper after the 2018 season because of his "ludicrous" contract demands

So does Aroldis end up back in NY?
Melancon went to SF.
Maybe Miami takes Chapman? Or do they land Jensen
nats are going to take a big run at aroldis if they cant get quintana and robertson
Can't wait to read the posts where teams are mocked for dumping truckloads of dough at closers' doorsteps.
The Nats are idiots. Rizzo is in over his head.
They gave up a shtein ton for Adam Eaton
actually was a great trade for both teams....eatin is still young cheap as farg and under control for five years...dont find guys like that often so you are going to have to give up something for him
they were down on giolito, so the only real piece they gave up in their mind was lopez

Saw a meme on facebook where it said that the reason Obama's inauguration crowd was bigger was because they don't work
The reason it was bigger is because they WERE out of work in 2009. Now they have jobs thanks to Obama. Don't worry, though... if Herr Drumpf wants crowds at his farging gates, just keep issuing illegal and unconstitutional decrees.
