The trade of Dorenbos saved his life, it looks like.

He has an aortic aneurysm that will require open heart surgery. Payton said their doc discovered the issue on a follow up physical.

The Saints will work to rescind the trade.

That's some awful news for Dorenbos, but also extremely fortunate at the same time.

Not 100% positive but I think they agreed to essentially treat it like a rescinding. Magic Man got released and the Eagles gave the pick back. Otherwise the Eagles would have had to temporarily release someone else to fit Dorenbos back on their roster for 10 seconds.

This seems as good a time as any to MOCK Jordan Matthews:  24/268/1.  Average yards per game in Buffalo, just under 30.  In Philly, just under 60.

Not counting his broken heart, he's suffered three different injuries this year(chipped sternum--that has got to hurt-- thumb (surgery), and now a tweaked knee limiting him in practice, although he's playing on Sundays.

Yeah, I was not among them.  I actually thought he would be traded before it happened.  It was a good move then and looks all the better now.  I don't wish the guy ill, either.  He's just not very good and the standard has to be higher if you want to win a lot.

Blake Countess playing against the Eagles in a couple of weeks.

How great does that '16 draft look now btw? Wentz alone was worth it but Seumalo looks to be the only bust. Mills and Joe Walker as 7th rounders, and Big V and Smallwood in the 5th. Vaeao udfa as was Aziz shteintu, who won the best name award. '17 draft/UDFA still  has a pretty high ceiling as well. Sidney Jones was rated just a little higher than Marshon Lattimore before Jones got hurt. One of the great things about this Eagles CB group is they tackle very well and like to hit. Physical corners are  something we haven't seen in a long time. Achilles tears are very painful and I remember Jones didn't even wince when he went down, so looks like he may fit the mold as well.

That Treggs move is interesting. Torry Smith finally had a good game but since Treggs is another speedster, that might signal the team is looking to move on regardless of what Smith does from here on out.

It's probably the only baseball card left in the world that has any value left to it.

Have you read an issue of Beckett lately? Do they still publish them? My card collection is worth a handful of baby batter. But its fun to look at. 1986-1990 was my heyday of card collecting, but my oldest card is a Nolan Ryan (1970's) and I have a Cal-Ripken Jr. rookie card (off center, mint condition). I gambled away a barry bonds and ken griffey jr rookie card back then. I was more stupid than I am now, but not by much.

From a statistical standpoint, I agree.  But there's more to a HOF career than stats and only the best of the very best belong on the first ballot.  He was an active detriment to every team he played for.  Not all the time but enough that his character is a bigger issue than it should be.

QuoteRENTON, Wash. -- In a surprising move, the Seattle Seahawks have terminated the contract of defensive end Marcus Smith, who was projected to fill a significant role as part of their pass-rush rotation this season.

Coach Pete Carroll said "some personal reasons" factored into Smith's release. He said earlier in the week that Smith's absence from practice was due to a family issue.

"Really, there was some personal reasons that came into it," Carroll said of Smith's release. "He's been a great kid in the program and all. All things considered -- this is as far as I'm going with it -- it was the right thing to do. He understood and agreed with it."

Carroll said Smith's health wasn't an issue. Asked if Smith had requested his release or if it was a mutual decision or the team's choice, Carroll paused and said: "We talked through the whole thing. I just kind of want to leave it alone because it's personal stuff and I'd just like to leave it there."

Don't know what's more surprising... that Smith was projected to be a significant player for the Seahawks this year, or that he got cut for some reason other than being horrible at football.

I knew the Seahawks are supposed to have a brutally bad roster, but I didn't know it had fallen to this level.

Saints placed CB Patrick Robinson on injured reserve with a broken ankle.

Yikes. Robinson signed a four-year, $20 million deal to be the Saints' slot corner in March. He had been playing decent snaps for the Saints' suddenly awful cornerback corps, grading out of the top player in the group on Pro Football Focus. Robinson will be a candidate to return after eight weeks, but it's possible he will need more time to get healthy. 2015 third-round bust P.J. Williams is the next man up.

Revisionist history sure is fun.

He bitched his way out of Philly.  Kelly was an icehole but if you look back on it, it's not like any of Jackson's colleagues came out in his defense.   Then the Washington team let him go over "money."   Now he's caterwauling his way out of Tampa.

I love his talent.  Always have.

But he's an immature headache even at 32 years old and his act is wearing thin.  Sooner or later teams will start saying "thanks, but no thanks" and I think to a degree they already have.  Otherwise he would have been traded at the deadline this year.  But he's older, makes a ton of money, his production has declined, and he still has issues with not being perceived as a team guy.

That's the truth.  Sorry if it hurts your feelings, girls.

he wasnt traded at the deadline because the coach/gm in tampa were going to be fired if they didnt win. trading pimp for a 4th wasnt going to help their cause. they needed to win and win now so they needed him. it didnt work.

also please tell me about this issues of him not being "a team guy." where or where besides the caste football board is that coming from.

It was the chief of HPD. Was glad when he came from Austin but he's been a clown show.

HPD also blew a no knock warrant and it was found that the main officer had been using fake CIs and now two people are dead who seemed like all they had was a revolver and a little bit of weed and not the stash of guns and heroin that the "CI" said they had. Acevedo and his little shtein officer who also is the head of the police union made asses of themselves throughout the whole aftermath.

Slander/defamation are not easy to prove, but I wonder if Bennett doesn't have some attorneys considering their options on that count.  Might be able to wrangle a settlement before court, or at least a press conference featuring a public apology and correction.

QuoteTorrold Smart, better known as "He Hate Me" during the XFL's earlier heyday starting in 2001, has been reported missing by family members, per a report from The Herald.

Known as Rod Smart during his football career, the 42-year-old was last seen June 12 in Indian Land, S.C., near Charlotte and Fort Mill, according to Lancaster County police.

"Family and deputies have concerns about his well-being and safety," said Doug Barfield, spokesman for Lancaster County Sheriff's Office. A a Facebook message from the department characterized Smart as a "missing endangered person."

The full context make more sense.  Dude wasn't wrong.  He's arguing that Reid isn't a discipline guy, and we all know that's right.  After his kids drove around pointing guns at people and smuggling drugs into jail and all that shtein, he put them on Eagles staff....which imho makes it fair game to mention by a football shock jock making the point that Big Red is hardly a ball buster.  He's a dude who puts his farg up kids on the payroll.

What, you can say that about the dominant local concrete contractor, or marketing company exec...but not about Andy Reid?  lol

Everyone gets a turn being a victim I guess.

Even taken out of context he is totally correct, but it's considered mean to say these kinds of true things about someone with a dead kid.

KC advertisers (who ultimately determine the content of the station) don't want to touch it, because the average consumer is a dope who gets butthurt over people saying mean things, whether they are right or wrong.

The only thing the host was wrong about is that he somehow got the idea he was being paid to speak his opinions, instead of being paid to generate content that Chiefs fans want to hear and that marketers want to be associated with. Plus, he thinks he's helping his case by being super defensive instead of learning a lesson and moving on.

The "intel" angle is silly.  What could Washington possibly learn from Smallwood (or Hester) that they don't already know?   They play each other twice a season and have, like, 18 angle game tape on every single snap the Eagles have played for years.  But Smallwood is going to give them something they don't know?

Makes more sense to me that they just plain don't have better players than those cast off by the Eagles.

It's not impossible to give a team a 0.001% edge by informing about what a particular signal might mean, but NFL teams generally aren't winning by executing a bunch of top secret plays that every fourth string RB has memorized. Everyone pretty much already knows what the other team does. All these teams are swapping tons of players, coaches, scouts, etc. constantly, and 95% of what a team does is right there on the tape.

I think Al Wistert will be the only Eagle to get in this year, with the fat 20-man HOF class. And Allen eventually.

Randall really didn't have a Hall of Fame career but I think there's a slim chance that a combination of assessing him as an innovator plus guilt over only having one black QB in the Hall puts him over the top one day.

Don't think any other Eagles currently eligible have a shot of ever getting in. Maybe Maxie Baughan, who none of us care about.

Patriots suspended DE Michael Bennett one game for conduct detrimental to the team.
"On Friday, I had a philosophical disagreement with my position coach that has led to my suspension," Bennett said in a statement to ESPN. "I apologize to my teammates for any distraction this may have caused." Bennett has been upset with his playing time, as he's been on the field for just 130 snaps. That includes a season-low 11 in Week 6. He has still managed to register 2.5 sacks. It's possible his reinstatement will be followed by his release.

Apparently has an external fixator for the pelvic injury.  That can't be comfortable in and of itself, much less with spinal damage on top of it.  Ouch.

I generally scoff at PFF rankings.

But what I do believe is that both him and Jones were not coached properly or given a chance to succeed in a system that benefits them.

Its about time to send Schwartz to the unemployment line.

sunday aside jimmy is a pretty damn good dc and cory undlin was a pretty good as well....remember he got the lions dc job. schwartz gets heat for not having the 85 bears but im sorry is nate gerry his best lb

jones was a little bitch who played scared because he got burnt. he got into the doghouse for sure but he couldnt get out. douglas is slow as molasses and cannot hang with a number of receivers in the league. right matchup he can be decent and perhaps he was put in good spots the first 2 weeks, but that wont last
Title: Re: Ex-Eagles In The NFL
Post by: QB Eagles on September 21, 2020, 09:00:34 PM
Let's be clear, Nate Gerry sucks, but Schwartz probably has more say in him being the starting LB than Howie does. They intentionally de-emphasize LB relative to other positions.

Not even saying going with anonymous LBs is wrong -- it's what the Patriots are doing this season too -- but you'd want the other parts of the defense to be elite, and they aren't.
Title: Re: Ex-Eagles In The NFL
Post by: PhillyPhreak54 on September 21, 2020, 09:48:51 PM
In theory the no name LBs should be decent behind their highly paid DL.

But those guys aren't doing shtein either.

But the Eagles haven't valued the LB position since Ray Bob was the coach.
Title: Re: Ex-Eagles In The NFL
Post by: General_Failure on September 21, 2020, 09:54:12 PM
I get it, you're going to have a lot of plays where you've got two or even one LB on the field, so why pay them. I figure if only one LB is a sure thing to play the whole game, you'd want him to be a really fargin' good one.

Maybe Minshew from JAX but they may not want to trade in the division.

Joe Flacco...

Trubisky

I don't see them trading for anyone who might provide actual competition for Wentz. Covers basically all of those guys except maybe Flacco.

Also this is the organization that played Jacoby Brissett for two whole seasons after Andrew Luck pulled the rug out from under them on two occasions. Think they are ready to roll with Eason.

Of course they stink. They're better than Eason and Ehlinger though.

What's why I think they'd deal for someone like them bc as QB said - god forbid a competent longer term guy comes in. Wentz will cry.

I was hoping he would make it for the circus element, but it got to the point where he was so bad real NFL players would have been pretty offended by him not getting cut.

He did survive in camp as long as Josh Rosen (a top 10 overall pick 3 years ago) though. That kid's NFL career is completely abysmal.

Jets in bad need of DE help....could be a nice place to send Barnett....dunno who they got the Eagles might want, or maybe just some picks.
Title: Re: Ex-Eagles In The NFL
Post by: QB Eagles on August 25, 2021, 07:23:50 PM
I don't really see the point of trading Barnett for anything less than a second round pick. The Eagles rotate ends, he's on his rookie deal, there's an outside chance he breaks out under a new DC, and if he walks next offseason the Eagles should get a decent comp pick back that is probably worth a fair percentage of what the Jets would give the Eagles.

Dillard yes because he's not an NFL player and if another team takes on the project it saves you the dead money from cutting him.
Ertz yes because he's old, expensive, takes snaps away from guys you want out there, and mentally he's already off the team.

i guess anything is possible but if he cant get sacks in a wide nine i dont know how he is going to break out this year...he also has a career 45% snap count rate...obviously some of that has to do with injuries but thats another issue with him...hes also a penalty machine....overall im pretty sure he is what he is

i wouldnt move him for junk but i think id go as low as a four although id rather have a young player that has a bigger upside than him but that a team would give up because of positional need

QuoteTHOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- The Los Angeles Rams and DeSean Jackson have reached an apparent crossroads only seven games into the veteran receiver's time in Los Angeles.

Coach Sean McVay said Friday that the team has agreed to allow Jackson to look into trade options and that Jackson will not play Sunday against the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium.

"I think what it boils down to is opportunities that I think he's deserving of and the situation and some of the circumstances that surround him," McVay said.

In need of a deep-threat receiver, the Rams signed Jackson to a one-year, $4.5 million contract that included $2.75 million guaranteed, over the offseason. Jackson's decision to sign with the Rams reunited him with McVay, who was among Jackson's coaches with the Washington Football Team, and it also served as a homecoming for the Los Angeles native who expressed an eagerness to win a Super Bowl in his hometown.

But the 14-year pro and three-time Pro Bowl selection has been used sparingly in the offense through the Rams' 6-1 start, catching eight passes for 221 yards and a touchdown.

I think Doug makes the most sense for them simply because it's less risky than taking a first-time coach, and it's time for them to stop gambling and focus on fixing their culture. The playing quality of the football team is almost secondary. Also for Doug's part, he wouldn't have to worry about being micromanaged like in Philly. But the Leftwich connection might be irresistible to Khan.

And Rodgers is better than Favre

His offenses were average talent wise and he never had a great defense to bail him out yet he still made the playoffs 2 more times. You obviously have issues with the guy I just don't get it. He won a super bowl against Brady with a backup qb. Then made the playoffs two more seasons with a shtein ton of injuries. If I asked you when he was hired: "he wins a super bowl and makes the playoffs 3 out of 5 seasons would you say he was a good coach"..,you'd first tell me to stop smoking crack then say if that impossible scenario happened 'Yes'.

He only saw action in one Eagles game 25 years ago, but:

QuoteThe former longtime partner of former Washington Super Bowl MVP Mark Rypien filed a lawsuit against him, seeking damages for physical and emotional abuse after years of alleged acts of domestic violence and repeated threats.

Danielle Wade, who had been with Rypien for 18 years, sued earlier this month in Spokane County (Washington) Superior Court. The suit documents alleged incidents from 2008 through September 2020. The two never married, but Rypien had referred to her as his wife in various interviews over the years.

At one point in 2019, Rypien hit Wade with his car and drove over part of her leg, according to the lawsuit. She also alleges that at another time Rypien became enraged while driving and, as she tried to get him to stop, backhanded her in the abdomen. Wade later told her attorney that she had suffered an injury to her esophagus as a result.

Title: Re: Ex-Eagles In The NFL
Post by: QB Eagles on August 30, 2022, 05:37:32 PM
They have had so many bad receivers but in retrospect I can't think of an Eagles WR who demonstrated as little upside as JJAW. I mean outside of obvious camp bodies, late-round flyers, cooked vets who were picked up in case they had anything left in the tank, and mid-December injury fill-ins. Can't fault his effort but he just isn't an NFL wide receiver.

Everyone else we've bitched about over the years has at least flashed something or had a big moment. I think Billy McMullen had more touches than this guy.

So in the past couple days, Howie has moved on from a couple draft mistakes by sending JJAW to sit in the same WR room as DK Metcalk, and now has sent Reagor to sit with Jefferson in Minnesota.

He managed to claw back the following compensation for dumping these two busts:

Turned a 2024 7th round pick into a 2024 6th round pick (JJAW)
Gained  a 2023 7th-round pick  (Reagor)
Gained a 2024 conditional 4th/5th round pick (Reagor)

Chiefs (assuming Reid doesn't get the gas face from Lurie when talking about him)
Broncos

Rams

Hunting for food and to control the populations of certain species is perfectly acceptable.

Hunting for sport just to kill magnificent creatures because you're a soulless monster is quite another.

It's barbaric and anyone engaging in it should be hunted themselves.

Texans claimed Barnett

Edit:  and apparently the eagles gave him some cash on the way out the door, lowering the cost for a team to pick him up

From PFT:

The Eagles restructured Barnett's contract before waiving him, converting salary into a bonus, according to Field Yates of ESPN, so the Texans will pay only $420,000 in base salary for the rest of the season along with small per-game roster bonuses.

Did seem a little uncharacteristically early to cut bait on a guy who's made several standout plays on special teams. Making his first career start against the 49ers and surrounded by other replacement level guys in the middle of the D was never going to turn out well. But maybe the tape revealed too many plays where he wasn't even remotely approaching what the coaches wanted him to do.
