also this oregon - baylor game with the uniforms and the court is the trippiest basketball game i've ever seen.

WAKE UP BITCHES!!  Tip Off Marathon!  Daddy like!  Every year I vow to go to the Hawaii 11:00 PM tip off.  I love the teams that tip off at 6 AM, 8 AM and 10 AM EST.  Tonight is going to be awesome.  UK/Duke, Georgetown/Maryland and Kansas/Michigan State.

tuesday Gtown at MD. boner.

great game so far.

melo would look good in sixers gear next year.

murray looked like the truth earlier too.
Title: Re: 2015 College Basketball Thread
Post by: ice grillin you on November 18, 2015, 08:32:02 AM
murray is really smart and makes such sound plays but last night and the couple of other times ive seen him he seems so unathletic/slow to me that he will be exposed in the league

melo is a good college player but will be awful in the nba

i did not think murray looked slow at all yesterday.

correct me if im wrong but this is a 1 player draft and its not even close...all about simmonDs
Title: Re: 2015 College Basketball Thread
Post by: ice grillin you on November 19, 2015, 08:58:29 AM
pretty much....especially for the sixers because there are no good guards once again

if they dont get simmonds i guarantee i will literally cry....i can tell right now....and if that happens then im OUT

watching KAT on the package when the wolves play makes me physically ill....but i cant stop...its like a train wreck....hes so farging good...he right now this second 15 games into his rookie year is already waaaaaay better than jah will every be at any point in his career

its just not fair

Title: Re: 2015 College Basketball Thread
Post by: MDS on November 19, 2015, 11:37:23 AM
the plan was based on ping pong balls falling in their favor...it was nothing more than probability

instead of relying on random chance, they couldve, you know, tried to win and shtein but no
Title: Re: 2015 College Basketball Thread
Post by: ice grillin you on November 19, 2015, 11:44:03 AM
the luck part is true but you have to give yourself the best possible chance....shooting to be .500 would have been idiotic...one day hopefully youll relaize this...

id much rather be the sixers than the bucks right now....but id also rather be the wolves than the sixers

overall the plan was a real good idea....problem was it was being implemented by a philadelphia sports team
Title: Re: 2015 College Basketball Thread
Post by: MDS on November 19, 2015, 11:55:20 AM
theres no guarantee trying to win wouldve led to sustained mediocrity....theres more than 1 way to win the nba

getting a superstar via the draft is the most likely way, sure, but how the sixers are doing that is just more overt than anything in history. youre on year 3 of this and they at best are going to have a 30% chance of it working.

yes there are multiple ways to win in the nba....the sixers choose one of those ways which also happened to be the best for where their franchise was at the time as they had no chance to attract free agents and no assets to trade

you dont like the sixers way because from a morality standpoint you cant stomach losing on purpose....which makes no sense because you are the first person to cheer for tanking in an individual season but somehow two or three seasons is the worst thing ever....phillies are doing the same thing the sixers are doing right now but you love their "process"

the sixers are still tanking because they havent gotten anything out of the plan....if they had KAT and wiggins or hell just a healthy embiid then you wouldnt say they were tanking...they havent been any worse than minnesota since hinkie got here and in fact they have never had even the second worse record in the nba since hinkie arrived....so far minny has gotten lucky and they havent.....thats the bottom line....the plan itself has been fine

and i say this everytime but hinkie has been here for two seasons and 15 games....that is NOTHING in nba time

That game was bananas. Buddy Hield can farging stroke it.  Actually, OU can flat out shoot. I'm always weary of teams that score that much from the outside come tourney time, but I wouldn't want to face them on a neutral floor if I were Kansas.

OU made two cross country/pacific trips to Hawaii in two weeks.  Played in the Pearl Harbor Classic, went back to Norman and came back here for the Diamond Head Classic.  Yes, OU can can shoot.

Looking forward to LSU/Kentucky tonight

Almost immediately after the buzzer, as he was walling over to shake Shashefski's hand, he looked at a ref and tapped his forearm...basically asking for a foul. He wasn't going crazy or anything, but he definitely made a half assed complaint.

I'd be sold on Simmons if the only thing you showed me was footage of him passing out of the low post. Unreal feel for where his teammates are and his passes are exactly where they need to be. If these guys could hit wide open 3s they'd be up by 40.

How did LSU actually recruit Ben Simmons anyway?  How did they convince him to go there?  Because they are not good at all.  I hope to hell the kid is getting some world class trim while he's there.

unless they put the games at campus sites those things lose money...and i cant imagine the espn deal to air the title game is for anything. the conferences might even have to pick up production costs.

the acc, big 10, etc. can make bank during the conf tourneys. but i dont see how the big sky can.

I know it's literally next to impossible to give up a 35 point lead, but I really thought they were headed there.  They froze up and if Iowa had any shooting ability whatsoever, that could have gotten really uncomfortably close.

Good win, though.

PS: I hope they beat Miami by 50.

its one thing for jerrah to be a POS who signs woman beaters or for the giants to be arrogantly smug or for the mets to be cheap puerto rican trash....you expect those things....you dont expect to be shived by your brother
Title: Re: 2015 College Basketball Thread

Of course you do ... Obviously Nova blocks Temple.  Same reason Florida blocks FSU from joining SEC, Xavier blocked Dayton from Big East etc.  It's what happens.

They're obviously the least "philly" of the philly schools but they play in the big5 (and Jay has promoted that unlike Lappas).  They're interwoven in the city's bball tradition for that reason and their ties with the schools.

I grew up rooting for Nova - my dad went there.  But I generally also pull for the other city teams as well. Maybe if I had gone to Nova/Temple/SJU I would get the hate shared.

tcu joined the big 12 when a&m left....temple helped la salle get into the a10 in the 90s.....usc/ucla and duke/unc/nc st all coexist in shared recruiting territory

i get teams looking out for their own. its all in the game. but you know the big 5 is different than anything else in college sports. nova doing what they did, especially when everyone else in the conference wanted temple, is an act of betrayal. its evil. its anti philly. they as a school can rot in the ground.
Title: Re: 2015 College Basketball Thread
Post by: Eagles_Legendz on March 20, 2016, 09:41:14 PM
Most of those were created way before this current collegiate atmosphere.  It's why you see SCar blocking Clemson and so on down the line.  It happens regularly right now.  I would be surprised if the roles were reversed and temple reached out to nova.

Like I said, maybe if I went to one of them I'd feel differently.  I care the most about nova but was still rooting for TU and will be pulling for SJU tonight.
Title: Re: 2015 College Basketball Thread
Post by: ice grillin you on March 20, 2016, 09:51:37 PM
nova is not on the level of the city schools....they are more a Delaware valley smarty jones type philly thing but to say they aren't 100% philly is silly

also when shtein goes down btwn schools it's usually an admin or coaches doing....Villanova or Georgetown didn't do it Rollie massamino or John Thompson were behind it

i saw temple come back from 10 down with 300 to go in the a10 semis and thought that was insane (fun fact: that was the last year they made the elite 8, it was 2001)

but yea what a&m did tops everything, including the duke one, which was of course better than temple's

and after all of that theres another half to go in the joe game. they just need to extend this thing to 128. who cares.

BET OF THE NIGHT: At the start of the 2nd half, a bettor bet $2,400 on Virginia to win straight up at @WilliamHillUS. Would have won $80.

I'll never understand bets like that. If you've got $2400 to burn why risk it for $80?!

Got there with about 6 minutes left and decided I'd root for Nova, being from Philly and all. Damn glad I did, amazing finish. We did it! WE WON!! WooooHoooo!

Excellent ending to a bizare tournament.

I think it's sad that there are people from Philly out there who aren't celebrating this win because they went to another school.

I understand the rivalries that would generally preclude them from being happy for the fans/students/alumni of the school, but this was a regional win for us.

The city gets so few opportunities to celebrate champions that is just seems like a waste of energy to not just tip your cap and say, "great win, guys."

Honestly, I'd cheer for any team from Philly winning regardless of my preferred allegiances.  Even the Sixers or Temple.

It's a Philly thing.  Quit being petty and just enjoy a rare win for the Delaware Valley.

I don't care either way, it didn't ruin my enjoyment of the run. I've always rooted for all the city schools. My earliest memory of college hoops was watching Nova/GTown. Nova to me is as Philly as Temple/St. Joes/Drexel etc.

Lot of argument now, where does that rank as one of the greatest moments in sports history.
Title: Re: 2015 College Basketball Thread
Post by: Rome on April 06, 2016, 08:06:48 AM
Well, the game itself was special.  Both teams were playing at such a high level.  UNC sprinted out, Nova caught and passed them, then the Heels re-caught them at the end with an insanely improbable three.  Then the playground bomb finish.  It's still fresh in everyone's minds, but if you watch the game again, you'll see just how great the play was on both sides.

I had this convo with my buddy about an hour ago. I said it's similar to a walk off HR to win the WS...used Joe Carter as an example. I said it's bigger because the tourney is a bigger deal than baseball is, he disagreed. Basically we both agreed the Jenkins shot ranks up there in the top 10 but his argument is it's not as big of a deal as a walk off HR to win the WS because BB is bigger than NCAA basketball.

carters was only game six do it doesn't really compare to mazerowski or Jenkins

also mazerowskis happened when baseball was like the nfl is now

Post by: ice grillin you on April 06, 2016, 11:22:41 AM
yeah definitely huge but it's hard to compare that to a scoring play that literally ended a game

even Jenkins shot loses significant luster if it even happens with .8 left on the clock

if nova is down one or two when Jenkins hits that shot I think it's probably the goat imo

I cant really debate the parade opinion but I have to think college basketball would be the exception if there is one. both on how huge the tourney is and how big the city is on the game.
