Feel the excitement
Close for 2½ periods, then the Flyers just opened a can on Pittsburgh.
Beautiful.
caught as much as I could before soccer practice this afternoon but that was fun as hell to watch.
QuoteNBCSN said its Penguins-Flyers opener averaged a Total Audience Delivery of 972,000 viewers, the network's most-watched regular-season NHL game on record.
yet they fired like 95% of their talent
comcast is a soulless greedy ghoul
your generation doesn't watch studio shows and no one likes sideline reporters...why shouldn't they?
because taryn hatcher
murph was cool too i liked him. studio shows though no doubt, a complete waste. game ends im off to netflix or youtube
I see JVR is still useless.
Konecny, on the other hand, is pretty good.
Couturier will get an MRI on his shoulder. He did not come back after the first period.
i dont have any feelings about mike sielski or even know what this beef is about but this hysterical
https://twitter.com/PhilaBCoulter/status/1350280141528854528
In the second period, Hartnell was talking about the Flyers playing shinny hockey, and twitter blew up with people thinking he said zesty hockey. At the beginning of the post-game show, he and Taryn Hatcher were sheepishly explaining what he really said.
Then Voracek blew up the FCC with that interview.

this is a tepid version of the reaction of stepford flyer fans, who are the most obtuse and slobberingly homeristic of any fan base in perhaps the world
none of them knew or cared who mike sielski was 2 seconds ago but now hes evil and must be murdered because he wrote a column 2 years ago jake is pissy about
it was a funny moment with or without context and can be left there unless youre someone who swallowed sniders loads for 40 years like half of south jersey did
Yeah none of that applies to me - I just find it funny
id never confuse you with a stepford flyer fan do not worry
Apparently, Couturier's injury is in the ribcage, not the shoulder. Out a minimum of two weeks.
Getting their collective asses handed to them tonight.
From puck drop the sabers were skating circles around them. Clear the farging zone
They got relegated to the smaller TV. Chose to watch some CNN on the larger TV instead.
That's how bad they are tonight.
Better effort tonight. Great game by Elliot. Still need to get better defensively - 40 shots.
Damn, they suck right now. The defense is porous.
taryn hatcher is ridiculous
also hockey or something good win go team
They aren't good but somehow they have the most points in the league
^^Tonight exemplified the "they aren't good' point^^
First game I've been able to watch in its entirety since opening game. Beautiful start to the third period, up 3-1 with less than eight minutes to play, B's tie it up with 14 seconds left!! 31 seconds into OT and BOOM! Three power play goals allowed in last 8 minutes including OT. Unreal.
Laughton with the hattrick. Defense still a concern, but they turned it on in the 3rd.
Couturier was missed by this team. Maybe the most important foward at this point.

Claude Giroux, Justin Braun and Travis Sanheim all on the COVID protocol list.
Next three games (WAS-NJD-NJD) are postponed. The two against the Devils had already been postponed due to their own COVID-related troubles.
Also, Hextall named GM of Pittsburgh.
Maksim Sushko making his debut tonight.

Great comeback, but Hart's extended slump is worrisome. He was downright awful tonight.
heads up next year most regular season national games are going to be exclusive to hulu/espn+. so like a rando rangers/flyers game wont be on comcast or the package, it will be on espn+ and hulu.
welcome to the 2020s
this is great cause espn+ is so much cheaper than having to buy the package and I already get it anyway so if I'm understanding this correctly I'm now going to be basically getting the package for free?
yes
i believe if you get espn+ the nhl package is just a part of that. they have to have like 15 subscribers if theyre just becoming simply one more thing on espn+
this will be a bigger problem for some normal idiot from philly who just wants to watch the flyers game and now wont be able to. and shtein bars likely are going to struggle here too. it wont be any big games and only be a few games total but still
Theres like 1200 games on espn+
I think it's every game of the season besides the 25 they are going to show on abc/espn and the handful of reg season games whoever gets the b package will show
It's A LOT of games...like 99% of the regular season will be streaming...I'm assuming some playoffs will also be on espn+?

in a way, yes. espn will be producing a few games a week that will be exclusive to espn+/hulu. meaning if its a flyers game and you live in philly, you have to watch it this way. they will also have the nhl package on there, as a part of the service. its two separate elements to the deal but ultimately if you have espn+ 95% of all nhl games will be there.
QuoteIt's A LOT of games...like 99% of the regular season will be streaming...I'm assuming some playoffs will also be on espn+?
maybe a lower tier first round game will co-exist, at most. the playoffs are being split with whoever buys the other package, so there should be enough space on regular tv to house all the games.
but there might be one day with an overflow or limited space, so nationally something zesty like lightning/islanders is on espn+ nationally but still on local stations in the home markets for the 33 people who watch the nhl there.
They're just hard to watch right now.
shouldn't be an issue since no one watches them

it's a tv stations social media account and that was a beautiful shot but can someone explain to me why that was an "insane" way to win??
I was sharing it just for the replay. I agree, not much insane about it... other than Marchand's reaction after Patrick's throwdown during the play. He was frothing at the mouth a bit.
(Admittedly, that looked like a penalty to me as well.)
just wanted to make sure i wasnt missing something that nbc saw...insane to me is like someone shot the puck into the zone from just over the red line and it hit a divot in the boards and came right out front to a flyer who put it in
nothing in that play is even a little bit weird or bizarre much less insane
i honestly forgot the flyers were still playing

Amateur hockey fan observation:
The Flyers stink.
i am the last mo'fo on this board who knows shtein about hockey but good f'ing God! It's like groundhog day everytime i see the ticker and the NHL scores. I'm old enough to remember this franchise would go deep into the playoffs almost every year. Yes, no cup since 1975 but it felt like a proud organization. This is embarrassing.
Is it true they have only won 1 playoff series in the last 9 years? Did I hear that right?
Something I thought I'd never see: The Flyers beating the Penguins in a shootout.
The current OT format sucks. The shootout sucks. The Flyers still suck.
JVR scored one the hard way tonight.

Geo singlehandedly keeping this thread alive. It's certainly not anything the Flyers are doing.
You probably already saw the news if you give even a slight shtein about the Flyers, but for posterity: Carter Hart shut down for the season. Might be the injury, might be simple mercy.
QuoteFlyers are the first team in the history of the Big 4 pro leagues (NBA/MLB/NHL/NFL) to alternate making and missing the playoffs for 10 straight years.

because its hockey only the stepfords care and theyre all super homers who cant process this, but the flyers are some kind of pathetic
74 & 75 Flyers were me first taste of a Philly Championship. Imagine following the NHL in Hawaii back than. I think I found out they were champs via carrier pigeon. 46 years ago. I used to truly believe during that long 1984 - 2007 championship drought the Flyers would be the first team to break the streak. Pathetic is right!
The Flyers have still won as many titles as the Phillies and done it in 86 less seasons.
Ellis when healthy is a damn fine player but that contract is a nightmare

The other piece of news is the team had to send in its protection list for the Seattle draft today.
NHL releasing the names tomorrow but pre-trade Carchidi posted
https://twitter.com/BroadStBull/status/1415998946325970944
Expansion draft gives them a chance to unload some of the biggest contracts onto Seattle so maybe that was part of the calculus with deciding they could spend on Ellis.
Seattle did not take the big contract bait. They took Carsen Twarynski who I have to admit I am not sure I have ever seen playing.
Seattle's uniforms are nice.
Scratch that
Ghost traded with a 2nd and a 7th TI clear cap space. What a disaster of an organization

Holy Moses that's bad. Nothing like being traded for a player to be named never.
holy farg they just traded ghost, this years one....two 2nds...a 7th and Hagg for ristolainen
I mean, he's an improvement to their second defensive pairing but seems like a lot to shell out and they have basically re-added all of the cap savings they got by unloading Ghost. Must be something else in the works... right?

btw
they are 2 losses from a second 10 game losing streak in the last 40 games
15 goals in last 8 games
8 wins since the world series
zero wins in 2022
last regulation win December 14th
5-20 last 25
and the worst part even with all that they only have the 7th least pts in the league and are closer to the 16th pick than a top 3 pick
