if you simply follow good people and never read any replies, twitter is terrific. great way to information gather things youre interested in, whatever it is. then there are the mentions and the eons of hungry hungry hippos and racists. you can avoid them pretty easily but ill be the first to admit its really tough to not take the bait.

Yeah, I'm with MDS on this.  I try to use twitter just to scan stuff I'm interested in, and try to avoid the rabbit hole of comments.

Which basically means Philly sports, major news sources and history.

The absolute worst thing about Twitter is the promoted tweets about some wine quiz that comes from random fake accounts so you can't even mute it to make it go away.

White America sees the looting, rioting and assorted acts of violence and says, "see... this is what they are" and goes on about its business.

I'm on the looters' side but that's how whitey sees it.  And we're never getting past it either.

I've been in a chaotic crowd...not a riot, but not orderly either.  It's a terrifying thing; people lose their minds and behave unaccountably.  It's extremely dangerous and nothing good ever comes from a mob.

No one here is doing performative outrage about the looting but still wanted to share this. There's a few other people making good points as well but frankly don't wanna flood the page with tweets.

I will say someone I know living there said the protests started out peaceful but the cops were the ones who escalated it and started shooting tear gas at the peaceful ones so things devolved from there.
