They needed to find Peters' replacement and here he is.  A 4 and 6 is a lot to give up to go up three slots, but I trust Douglas' and Howie's judgment there.   The roster is pretty well set anyway. They really do need to crush those seconds, though.  Just stay put on both and take bpa's.

I thought they'd take a Tackle last year because of Peters injury. Goedert was more of a luxury pick, I get it you add a weapon and he helps immediately for another SB run. Peters was only playing 3/4's of the snaps last season so it's not unrealistic to see Dillard get some paying time. From all reports he's already outstanding in pass pro but needs work on run blocking. Pass pro is the most important aspect of a Tackle. Every mock I read had Dillard in the 10-15 range. Thought the price to move up 3 slots was a bit steep but Howie said he had Dillard ranked in the top 10.

Dillard is not playing OT in the nfl in 2019

Way too early to say...they figure that stuff out in camp. They're not keeping 5 tackles - all who can't play guard - on the roster...so someone's gotta go. Vaitai's on the last year of his deal, I think they try to unload him day 3.

Yup and people discounting it because of Leach's quick out offense

He's got good mechanics. Let's hope he can play

Once again, Howie Roseman targeted a premium position with a first-round resource, trading up three spots on Thursday night to select Washington State tackle Andre Dillard. Roseman has now selected eight players in the first round over the course of nine drafts in charge — four defensive linemen, three offensive linemen and a quarterback. In order to move from No. 25 to No. 22, the Eagles sent the Ravens a fourth-round pick (No. 127 overall) and a sixth-round pick (No. 197 overall).

After the pick, Roseman said Dillard was a top 10 player on the Eagles' draft board. The team tried to trade up for him sooner but was wary of surrendering either of its second-round picks. In Dillard, the Eagles add a player considered perhaps the draft's best pass protector. The expectations are clear: Dillard comes to Philadelphia to eventually replace the 37-year-old Jason Peters at left tackle.

"It's hard to find offensive linemen," Roseman said following the selection. "It's hard to find guys with great feet, big bodies, big hands. It's hard to find these guys. They don't grow on trees. There's very few people in the world, you know, it's the big man theory. There's very few big men with that kind of feet. It's just unusual to get him. We like our offensive line depth. We liked it before today. We liked the guys that we have on our team. It's just an area that we want to continue to invest in and be strong in and continue to develop guys because you need it. You need it over the course of the season. You need the depth. It's just a great situation for a young player to come into."

After the trade, the Eagles currently have only four 2019 draft picks remaining — two second-rounders (No. 53 and No. 57 overall), one fourth-rounder (No. 138 overall) and one fifth-rounder (No. 163 overall).

BACKGROUND: A three-star offensive tackle recruit out of high school, Andreas "Andre" Dillard played offensive tackle in football and forward in basketball at Woodinville, Wash. At only 240 pounds, he didn't expect to play college football until his senior season when he was named KingCo Crest Division Offensive Lineman of the Year, giving up basketball as a senior to focus on football. Not ranked among the top 100 offensive tackles in the 2014 recruiting class, he held offers from lower programs like Eastern Washington, Idaho and Portland State until Washington State entered the picture in the final months of his recruitment. Dillard is a legacy at the program as his father (Mitch) played at Washington State in the late 1980s as a walk-on linebacker, tight end and center. He accepted his invitation to the 2019 Senior Bowl.

Quote from: Gennaro FiliceBEST PICK: Andre Dillard, OT, Washington State
Philadelphia Eagles, Round 1, No. 22 overall

Howie Roseman probably shouldn't expect a Christmas card from Brian Gaine -- not after the Philly GM ate his Houston counterpart's first-round lunch. Heading into this draft, two things were abundantly clear about the Texans' outlook: 1) They HAD to upgrade their sieve of an offensive line, and 2) they had eyes for Andre Dillard. As the starting left tackle over the past three seasons in Mike Leach's Air Raid offense, Dillard certainly didn't lack pass-blocking experience. And the 6-foot-5, 315-pounder proved to be far more athletic and nimble-footed than a 6-foot-5, 315-pounder should be. His dominance was clear to the naked eye (Brian Baldinger narrates a minute of O-line porn here) and the nerd mind (Dillard allowed one sack on 722 pass-blocking snaps last season, according to Pro Football Focus, making him the site's highest-graded offensive lineman in pass pro). So, perfect blind-side protector for young franchise QB Deshaun Watson, right? And when Dillard surprisingly remained available into the 20s on draft night, it seemed as though the Texans might just get the plug-and-play LT they sorely needed with the 23rd overall pick. Then Roseman's Eagles leapfrogged Houston -- vaulting from No. 25 to No. 22 by giving the Ravens a pair of Day 3 picks -- to pounce on Wazzu's smooth-operating edge eraser. Left in a lurch, Gaine grasped for OT Tytus Howard, a much less proven prospect out of Alabama State. Meanwhile, the Eagles are now in an enviable position at left tackle. With nine-time Pro Bowler Jason Peters potentially heading toward his last NFL season at age 37, Philly suddenly has a highly regarded heir apparent in place. So, while Gaine's Texans would've immediately slotted Dillard into the starting lineup out of necessity, Roseman's Eagles can ease the newbie into the league with spot duty before having him fill a Jason Peters-sized hole in 2020. This will allow Philly O-line coach Jeff Stoutland to put a professional polish on some undeveloped power components in Dillard's game. And this is the kind of aggressive, long-game move that you can make when your roster is as well-rounded as Roseman's. The rich get richer, while Gaine feels the pain.

I forgot how much he played last year, now we pray this cat works out.  That play against Seattle (regular season game) where Arcega-Whiteside tripped over Dillard's feet summed up JJ's season.

Curious what kind of clause JP has in his contract for if (when) he's asked to move back to LT.  They ain't really gonna put Mailata in there when JP could be used, right?  Pryor is a guard, and has performed well enough when he's played...he's got to be the RG at this point, with JP moving over to his rightful spot, backed up by the project (Mailata).

Prince is an RT, right?
