A gunman walked on stage at a Damageplan show in Columbus and killed the guitarist.
He shot him five or six times at point blank range.
For those that don't know, he was the guitarist for Pantera and recently formed Damageplan with his brother, Vinny Paul.

That's just as farged up as farged up can get.
Its all over the news, CNN.com, Yahoo.com....even CF.com.....in the Dead People thread. ;)
:boom :boom
cant even find the words right now about how much this pisses me off.
Totally shocked and pissed!
I heard it on howard stern this morning, I heard rumored his brother was shot too.
Supposedly it was some crazed fan from Pantera days...wtf!

Guarantee you the bible thumpers will be out "When you sing songs about the devil, this sort of thing is going to happen!"
They're already doing it on the Dead People thread, if not in so many words.
I didn't know Sus was a Bible thumper.
Metaphorically speaking. But point taken.
Dimebag was one of the great guitarists of all time. He influenced so many metal bands its scary to imagine what the scene would be like today without him. Pantera was one of the first bands to get me into metal long ago and their music had a great effect on my life while growing up. I cant count how many hours I spent with friends watching the "Watch It Go" home video and laughing my ass off. I know i've shared a lot of moments with DMF and Mussa having some brews and watching/listening to it. Outside the metal world he wasnt really known, which is a shame. For those who don't know, his brother (Vinnie Paul) was the drummer of Damageplan. Dimebag was murdered right in front of him. Too many great musicians are murdered or kill themselves. Im def going out and having a few brews for Dime tonight.
"You want a fvcking shot? Here it comes!"
"Bottle of Jager, Bottle of Cuervo... watch it go!"
Im with ya buddy :yay Except Im gonna do a shot of jager and a shot of cuervo, not a bottle of each.

Isn't that about as "close-minded" as you like to portray "religious" people as being?
As for the guy, it's a shame to see anyone (short of Hitler or Osama) die so young. I have no idea what Pantera or Damageplan play, and from what I gather here it wouldn't be the kind of music I would enjoy or want my son to listen to. Doesn't mean that I want him dead.
Now, the guy that shot these innocent people, I have to admit I have little sympathy for him.
I also think that Dio was taking my indifference as some kind of pleasure in the victims' passing.
I think he was more or less mad that you assumed someone named Dimebag wasn't a great guy. That's my guess, anyway. Seems like everyone's a little jumpier than they used to be.

I said to the wife this evening: The whole world is in a pissy mood today.
It certainly seems that way.

I just saw it on the news tonight, what a huge loss! Pissed over Pantera breaking up WTF? MURP as soon as I heard it I thought of all of our road trips and how they were not complete until we listened to Pantera LIVE. That is perhaps the best metal album ever IMO. I will make sure when I go out tomorrow I will take a shot of Cuervo and Jager in rememberence. RIP Dimebag :'(
I saw this on the news tonight and I'm a bit devastated. Darrell influenced me a lot.
I heard about it on ABC "world news tonight" and as if finding this out wasn't bad enough, the way the story was presented just pissed me off. Peter Jennings kept saying "the violent world of heavy metal". As if this sort of thing is commonplace because it's "heavy metal". It's very similar to the feeling I get when I hear someone say "well, you know how those Eagles fans are". Aggressive music is sacred to me. It helps me and innumerable others lose our minds. It helps me blow off steam and stay centered when disappointment, pain, and just life in general are getting to me. It does NOT inspire me to harm others. It's only when I hear Blink 182 or garbage like that that I get violent urges. And ABC referred to the "Boston Beatdown" video (a film in which I know several people, all of whom are good people...) as if anyone who goes to a metal or hardcore show is nothing more than a neanderthal lunkhead, hellbent on maiming anything that moves. There is an entire culture that goes along with it. ABC pidgeon-holed the whole movement like we are all "baaaad people". They used this tragedy to take a dig at something that means a great deal to many people. I think that if Darrell's family saw that piece, it would make their already unbearable pain even worse.
some more detailed info on the incident. (http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/_/id/6660359/pantera?pageid=rs.NewsArchive&pageregion=mainRegion&rnd=1102636992116&has-player=true&version=6.0.12.872)

You shouldnt disrespect him, GF.
I'm just sayin' some people love their religion, and some people love their religion.
The thing is...I'm far from that. Really far. I'm not sure where the idea came from.

Stereotyping perhaps? Just a thought. ;)
Me stereotyping, or me being stereotyped?
Being stereotyped, of course! :P

Gene Simmons told Rita Cosby on Fox News' "The Big Story Weekend Edition with Rita Cosby" that Dimebag's family has decided to bury him in a Kiss branded coffin (http://www.kissonline.com/kasket/body.html).
here is the "edited for clarity" transcript (isn't that an oxymoron?) from Fox News' web site, corroborating the story: link (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,141334,00.html)

I'm not usually one to trumpet cops as heros, but I think this one deserves the honor. He went into that club knowing only generally what was up, with no backup, and ended it.
Kick ass.
:'(
That brooks guy is lucky none of the shotgun pellets hit him. Damn lucky.
