Title: Week One -- 2014
Post by: PhillyPhreak54 on September 04, 2014, 11:19:46 AM
It finally begins.

GB is starting a rookie center tonight and Bruce Irvin said he'd pray for him.

It will be loud but I think the Packers are going to keep it close. If I were betting it I would take the Packers and the 5.5.

That play was pretty.

Harvin is going to have 100 catches or be out for the year week 3 with how often he's being targeted.

Awful job by Jordy Nelson. Catch the ball, whitey

The Seattle defense is serving notice that once again they will not be farged with this season. The Packers haven't really been bad on either side of the ball, but their offense feels like it's playing underneath heavy wet blankets.

You can't really judge him too harshly against Seattle because that defense is crushing everyone on his offense. But it wouldn't be shocking if Rodgers did look kind of ordinary this season. Even as an elite player two years ago, he seemed like yesterday's news with all the dynamic new QBs and offenses breaking out. And he's coming off a major career interrupting injury.

The signal can still be picked up with rabbit ears. I'm using them (haven't had cable in 3 years). The tuner part comes with the TV if you've bought one in the last 7 years or so.

can you do hd with the tuner? outside of the phillies there is 0 reason to get cable...espn and tnt both have apps for live sports.

Absolutely, the signal is HD and looks great. Obviously you can be at the mercy of bad lines of sight and severe weather, but if the signal is available to you, it looks good.

I have MLB.tv for the Phillies, but I'm out of town and don't have to worry much about blackouts. Of course my MLB.tv money was kind of pissed away this year anyway.

actually its quite a good rivalry....both teams have been around longer than youd think and the cities are relatively close to each, at least as the south goes.

it doesnt have the history or passion of the old school pre-merger rivalries, or the talent of the hawks/niners, but its pretty good and meaningful to the fan bases

Yeah I have a buddy who's a Saints fan. He truly hates the Falcons. I just don't get it, man. It's the Falcons for crying out loud. Eagles fans hate Jerry Jones, Daniel Snyder, and New York City. I think most of the country can at least understand those impulses.

Their defense, especially beyond the line, is ridiculously bad. I think the offense will be basically functional and not much different from what we've seen from Romo in years past.

I'm not a huge believer in this 49ers team and I think this season they will regress a little from what they've been the last couple of years. They are better than the Eagles, but I think the Eagles will face an even more challenging early test against the Colts.

Man, Berman's sounding super old and slightly drunk. Probably because he is.

thats cause they all associate him with the home run derby

but when it comes to football hes excellent on gameday and in the booth hes just another pbp guy...not great but certainly not bad enough to spazz out about

Twitter is for complaining. Nobody's going to tap out 140 characters to say they're okay with his announcing.

hes horrible...not nearly as bad as the derby but its really bad. but yea, not BAD to the extent that it requires shutting off the tv. thats all on him just being himself and people trying to one up each other on twitter.

the inside baseball issue is espn giving him this assignment when it has 100000000000 qualified announcers more deserving of the gig

If this is Berman when he's bad, I'll happily take a hundred of these games over one more Joe Buck game.

without looking guess how old mike carey is

he's like 65. I was shocked when I heard that. I was watching one of those mic'd up segments and Favre wished him a happy birthday or something and Carey told him his age...shocked.

BTW - I am old. I used to love these late games. Now? Bed time soon. Pretty soon I will be full blown Dio and running errands and shtein.

Just joking. I won't ever go that far.

its just because its chris berman so its the thing to do to rip him no matter what...really hes pretty non descript in an nfl booth....if his name was kevin burkhardt no one would be saying a word about his announcing

On the plus side, it was thrown out of the endzone instead of directly to a DB.

The best part of this Cards/Chargers game is when they come back from commercial and forget to completely turn down the director, so you can barely hear him and he sounds like a 1920s baseball announcer.

Boykin (who is criminally underused)

You realize there were a grand total of 8 snaps where the Jags had 3 receivers in their set and Boykin wasn't out there, right? They only dressed 4 for the game. Guaranteed he'll be out there a lot more against other teams that use the 11 personnel package more often.
