what the farg is drunken uncle chuck letting lee go out for the ninth inning on sept 17 with a 7 game lead 117 pitches deep and against a AAA team....is he trying to make all his pitchers arms fall off in the playoffs

No.  He's trying to give the bullpen a break.  And pitch count means nothing if the pitcher is dominating the way Lee was last night.

the team had a day off yesterday and the pen had pitched one inning since sat plus it has tons of options with the expanded roster

bring in your 13th pitcher if need be...bring in myers who needs work to get sharp....bring in kendrick...no reason whatsoever to bring lee back out...it wasnt as egregious as what he did with pedro but it was still stupid

There has been all kinds of talk in the last month about what the Phillies have not been able to do at the plate, about stranding runners in scoring position and the like. And, well, yes, there is some validity to it. But they have been in such an advantageous position for such a long time - nobody seems capable of chasing them in the NL East, up by seven games over Florida (and eight in the loss column) with only 19 left to play - that they wouldn't be human if their minds didn't wander, at least a little.

Still, even with all of that, if you go by OPS - on-base percentage plus slugging percentage - here is the last month among the four NL playoff contenders:

Phillies. . . .801

Rockies. . . .782

Cardinals. . . .760

Dodgers. . . .752

The concern? It just isn't there. So go back to worrying about something worth worrying about. You know, like the ninth inning.

Really? They show that abut 10 times a year in MLB parks where kids chunk the balls back on the field. What makes this one so special. Unless they want to ask Daddy why he didn't boo the kid or throw her over the railing after the ball.

Because the reaction of the guy was not what was normal. As great of a catch as it was...and how totally pissed he might have been, he just hugged his daughter close and smiled at her. It was a really sweet moment and this video is all over Facebook and stuff now.
