Welcome the new Pimp.
Yes sir!!
A new tiny speedy receiver for a new age. Instead of antisemetism maybe he can become a qanon whackjob instad.
Yes!
I'm actually happy.
Wanted him for months.
Too bad he will wear a single digit number tho
Absolute stud
Did they need to trade up to get him? lol. Dallas obviously didn't want him, and the Giants are pretty set at WR.
heisman trophy winners drafted by the eagles
-jay berwanger (didnt play)
-davey o'brien (has an award named after him)
-davonta smith
They actually were the smartest guys in the room tonite.

Normally when they have so many different needs I wouldn't want them to get such oneitis for a player that they need to trade up, but this is a situation where they feasibly could have had Smith far ahead of everyone else left on the board. You get in that situation, don't farg around, move up and grab the guy.
Consensus best player available when they picked... Not sure the Giants wouldn't have taken him... And their trade out to Chicago looks like making lemonade to me
the giants were 100% in on him...they immediately traded back after the eagles leaped them

Giants obviously wanted him which is why they traded out of their pick. Sheppard/Slayton aren't at the same level as Smith.
:)
Yes they had to jump NYG for him. That's why they traded out too.
farging pumped.

I ask DeVonta if he's tired yet, and he responds with a delightful, "shiiieeeeeeet," as if he's been coached by Clay Davis himself.

also you aren't just trading up over the teams ahead of you...you are bidding against teams behind you but Munson is a farging half wit can't think for himself and doesn't understand things like this
Nice
QuoteI thought about a moment from earlier in the week, when a friend of his worried about the tornado warnings over FaceTime while we sat in 'Bama's facility. DeVonta's response was to tell the friend he wasn't scared. Then he puffed his chest out and loudly proclaimed the truth he had been desperately trying to get across to the whole football world: "I am the fargin' storm!"

In what universe is this "not fast."
How fast is DeVonta Smith in the 40?
4.27 seconds
12 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft, clocked a time of 4.27 seconds in the 40 at the NFL Scouting Combine. He is currently tied for the fourth-fastest time in combine history since 1999.
Desean Jackson?
DeSean Jackson/40 yard dash time
4.35 seconds
Can he catch?

That would be the, "Shoulda drafted Justin Fields" galaxy, which resides in the "Eagles FO Can Do No Right" universe. They are on a collision path with the "DeVonta Smith Offensive Rookie of the Year" universe, set for late winter of this calendar year.
Bold of you to assume he's not blowing out a knee in training camp.

40 times at the combine arent always fair...40 times during covid are preposterous
think marvin harrison not pimp...thats who he is...not super burner straight line fast but buttery smooth on routes and quick twitchy as farg in and out of cuts
Not fast. lol. Ok.

like i said marvin harrison wasnt pimp fast and was a HOF...just because you dont have tyreek hill or pimp jets doesnt mean you cant be great...hes going to be ok, i promise

"Not fast" is factually incorrect. Justify it however you'd like. That evidence simply isn't there. Opinions are nice, but, you know...objective reality sometimes works. The guy is inarguably fast by any objective measure.
yeah i definitely thought a nfl wr wasnt literally fast....ya got me columbo
You're the hot take guy that went with "not fast". Say stupid things, reasonable people might want to call it into question.
And, by the way, he's objectively fast even by NFL WR standards.
being mr. literal is not reasonable its being a 3rd grader
There's not a universe where he isn't fast. Saying he's not fast is just ignorant and literally stupid. You know that. Why are you even defending it? Just man up and say you misspoke or something. You can't say something that dumb and expect people just to swallow it. I also love the nonsense about not being able to count his speed because of the pandemic. Genius!
fine you win..hes a very fast human being....what was i thinking
hes not pimp tyreek hill straight line burner fast...hes marvin harrison gets open by running great routes fast
happy?
there were no combine workouts this year because of the pandemic....only pro days and private workouts which are always slanted towards the player
I mean, slightly happier...but I still have to finish work to really get over the line to fully happy. But I appreciate your contribution, certainly.
I think he's legitimately fast by any measure, but also a good route runner that varies his speed for effect...but has the speed when it's needed.
Irony is this is arguing about the wrong player. Ruggs ran a 4.27 40. Smith doesn't have an official time. I went to Bama and watched almost every snap Smith played. Incredible hands, great footwork, knows how to get open, fast but not blazing. Ruggs & Waddle were the burners - Smith was the complete WR (although I think Waddle will be really good - Ruggs not as much).

the speed isnt even relevant...hes plenty fast...the point is pimp is a terrible comp for him...he can be so much more...and everyone knows how much i worship pimp
pimp and tyreek hill arent just fast they are sprinters. both were d1 track talents, hill basically an olympian. its a different level.
smith is just plain old fast. its great, but its not what pimp was. very very few will touch his speed.
Smith is the #1 but the deep threat is supposed to be Reagor.
Can't wait for Goedert to be the leading receiver with 78 catches.

Rookie signings are matter of course anymore, but I'll post it anyway. Smith signed a couple days ago.
Who?
So did all the other rookies, I think. No one cares.
Rookie contracts just haven't been very interesting since Sam Bradford, and that's fine by me.
They're formulaic, a non-story really.
Remember when they weren't? And it was good news to read that the big rookies had signed?
sweet
QuoteDeVonta Smith has a knee sprain. He's week to week.
its actually a sprained mcl and hes done for the preseason
twig
Perfect. Just farging perfect.
Greg Ward your #1 WR who is a full practice participant today.
QuoteSmith is clearly the No. 1 wide receiver through the first few practices, as no Eagles wide receivers have stepped up in the early going.
Travis Fulgham, John Hightower, and JJ Arcega-Whiteside haven't stood out through four sessions, and Quez Watkins has been limited with a non-COVID related illness.
Well this is farging encouraging.
That injury would suck if it ends up delaying Smith's HOF eligibility.
I was excited when they drafted Smith. I had the same durability concerns as many other. The more of him I see, both on the field and behind a mic, the more I like him. I could see him having a similar career to DeSean, often brilliant but eventually often injured. Am I the only one who has wondered what it might be like if Howie made the deal with the Bears instead the Giants/Bears trade going down? They'd have 3 or 4 first round picks among maybe a dozen total. I will be interesting over time to watch what they might have had, as well as the Justin Field option.
he doesnt have near the speed and wont be a straight line threat like that but he can be better at everything else than P
he has so many good qualities but none were better in college than the fact that he never drops a ball and most of that is because the defender is never close enough to him to cause drops....hes a route running machine
he's open 80% of the time, so so smooth and great instinct for finding the spot...he's going to murder defenses

My worry after watching him in college and briefly in the preseason was he comes out of breaks too fast. That's usually a great problem but Flacco takes 5 years to make a throw and Hurts arm strength was suspect. Initially I thought timing might be an issue.
nice problem to have, no?
https://twitter.com/DeVontaSmith_6/status/1447037149472333825
sure sure he talking about Alabama yesterday....
all the same, pay attention Nick
Saban...Sirriani...would have been funny if he wrote "Nick" at the end
I was surprised I didn't flip out when he fumbled today but rookie mistake, he will learn. So far loving this kid. I really wanted Parson's but this is working out just fine.
Any of you remember Cletis Gordon?
Me either, but DeVonta does:
https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2022/06/29/devonta-smith-remembering-his-own-childhood-football-camp-gives-back-in-philly/
5th year option picked up and signed to a 3yr extension for $75M
Nice deal for the team and Smith. Back of my mind I thought he might bounce because he seems to like the south more than the east coast
Glad to have Smith and Dickerson caked off for a few years. These guys are part of the new nucleus.
