Hey Sus, I know you're around the area somewhat...have you had anything from Twin Lakes Brewery yet? I had their winter warmer Jubilicious the other day and it was excellent. Unfortunately they're so small they don't bottle any of their shtein, so you can only get it at whatever bars they send it to. I think they do sell their IPA in cans at some liquor stores though.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

SD

Had a Xmas party last night. Drank from noon yesterday till 5 am. I'm in zombie mode on the couch in pajamas watching the bums. What's cool is pretty much every group of people that showed up brought a bottle of something. Woke up and there's a bottle of Makers Mark, Sailor Jerry, Jack Daniels, Patron, Ciroq, Captain Morgan and a few bottles of wine.

Same here - I ended up going to a Christmas party with my cousins. We were supposed to have a bonfire at their place but it was too dangerous with the winds yesterday. I was supposed go down the city with Sunny & igy but obviously never made it. I was blacked out by 3am and somehow woke up in time to make it down to Delaware Park to get NFL bets in.

I started with beer and ended with shots of vodka and bourbon. I am in bed watching redzone hungry as farg

Phreak you don't have to go all the way down to Del Park anymore to place your bets (unless you just want the experience of being in the casino of course). Delaware passed a law that allowed 20 or so businesses within the state to offer sports betting, and a large majority of them are much closer to the PA border than the casino. Stanley's Tavern (the one Bergey used to part own) is one of them, and that's literally 2-3 minutes from the border, less if you don't hit red lights.

No shtein? Good info - thanks!

Munson

Yup, here's a list of the businesses you can find the betting cards at by county...

Stanley's, Fairfax News, Famous Jack's and Famous Joe's are all pretty much right over the border. If you wanted to stick around to drink and watch games, Stanley's is the best by far out of those choices in terms of food and drink selection and atmosphere.

Sorry for the delay...

Yeah, I've had some of their stuff before, mostly at beer festivals (and I think at McKensie's in Glen Mills). Pretty good overall. I tried to visit them on a random Friday a while back (after the Bengals game), only to discover that they are only open to the public on Wednesdays and Saturdays. It's pretty much just a little estate in Greenville, and it was a pretty strange experience. I ended up going to Boxcar in West Chester (another strange, but much better, experience).

What do you folks think about hard ciders?  I've been padding the revenue stream for Angry Orchard lately.  I prefer their "traditional dry" to their other marques.  I've also tried the woodchuck amber, their original, and it's comparable (though a tad weaker at 5% vs. 5.5%).  I also had the woodchuck pear cider...at 4% it's like drinking soda, and it's way too sweet for me.

Does anyone know of a cider that breaks the 5.5% ABV?

I've tried Ace Pear Cider at the Ale House in Fredericksburg (there is one in Richmond and I think on the MD side). It's only 5%, but not as sweet as you'd expect. Pretty dry too. I like it on occasion.

I suspect it's difficult to get a higher ABV into cider for some reason.  I'm not a chemistry guy though, so I'd have to have someone explain it to me.

I am fairly sure it is because they use a different type of yeast in ciders than in traditional beer brewing.
