Joe Dougie pick. I'm not sure what happened to DK but wow he's dropping.

I didn't see this one coming.
I should have read more of those magazines.

Quote57. J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, WR, Philadelphia Eagles
He's got a basketball background and plays like a post-up player. I think he's a better version of Devin Funchess. His hands are so strong. Even when he's being held and grabbed, it does not matter. You look at the way the Eagles used Alshon Jeffery and they got a younger version of Alshon.
he aint no alshon....he reminds me more of the guy whose job he might take....mack hollins
They spent a 2nd round pick on what's going to be a 4th WR, at best, on a team that runs 2 TE sets. Uh...
Would have taken a safety with this pick or traded out for more picks.
i dont hate the pick but agree
I was at a draft party (yep - still have those) and the main topic was why is Metcalf still dropping.
I guess it's a case of analyst hype overwhelming fact. Good to see him finally end up with a decent franchise, though.
57. Philadelphia Eagles: JJ Arcega-Whiteside, WR, Stanford
The best compliment you can give a wideout is when everyone knows where the ball is going, yet it can't be stopped – and that's often how it felt studying Arcega-Whiteside in jump-ball situations. His basketball background and bloodlines are evident in the way he boxes out and rebounds the football, especially in the end zone. He feels like more of a specialized receiver right now, but the potential is there to be more with the Eagles.
From the beat writer: "Somewhat surprisingly, the Eagles keep both of their second-round picks and don't recoup any of the lost picks from the Day 1 trade. At 57, they pick Stanford WR J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, which is a somewhat curious selection in type, not position. For much of the pre-draft process, they seemed to focus on speedier receivers who could potentially replace Nelson Agholor in the slot. That's not Arcega-Whiteside, who is more of an outside jump-ball player. One wonders whether the Eagles would have selected Mecole Hardman had the Chiefs not traded up to take the Georgia speedster at No. 56." —Bo Wulf
he has a very good chance to be the best spanish player ever

I watched a ton of Stanford because of Pac12 After Dark
This is a good pick. He bodies up on people and high points nicely.
Same J, we have Pac 12 Network in Hawaii so Stanford is on all the time. Fun team to watch and I love David Shaw. I was more into watching the demise of USC.

After Day 1 of the 2019 NFL Draft, I used a model that predicts future player performance to identify the five best value picks of the first round. With Rounds 2 and 3 officially in the books, I've analyzed the 71 total picks from Friday night to determine the five best Day 2 values.
2) J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, WR, Philadelphia Eagles
Drafted No. 57 overall
Before the draft started, Arcega-Whiteside ranked as my No. 38 overall player, so the fact that he was picked at No. 57 is one easy-to-see indicator of the value. However, his fit within the Eagles' offense makes him so much more valuable than a 19-pick differential can indicate.
One of the things that stands out most about the Stanford pass catcher is his red-zone production. Over the past two seasons, he scored a touchdown on 18 of his 34 red-zone targets (Pro Football Focus tracks this for all FBS schools), and his 52.9 percent TD rate paces all receivers over that time span. I also love two other PFF notes on him: He caught 57.1 percent of his deep targets last season, good for second in FBS, and eight of his 14 touchdowns were on deep targets. When I track his route running, it's precise for the entire route tree. This is certainly not true of all of the receivers in this draft.
In 2017, Carson Wentz had the NFL's best red-zone passer rating (116.0) and tied for the second-most touchdowns (23) without an interception. In 11 games in 2018, those results dropped to 10th in passer rating (101.7) with 18 touchdown passes and 1 interception in the red area. This might not seem huge, but consider that Wentz went 11-2 as the Eagles' starter in 2017 and 5-6 in 2018. Arcega-Whiteside adds efficiency to the Eagles' offense from Day 1.

Joe Douglas calls Eagles' group "a high character class"
A week with Pimp and they'll all be good.
He's the most unused of the 16 WRs taken in the first four rounds of the 2019 draft, except the ones on IR or who missed significant camp time with injuries.
Even Andy Isabella, who hasn't been targeted yet by a pass, has 5 kick returns for over 100 combined yards for the Cardinals.
Fire Howie Roseman.
What's up with this guy? Ok, he dropped that pass against the Lions but if he had made it we all would have said "what a catch!" Does make one curious how/why he can't get on the field with drops Agholor, a 50% AJ and the special teamer.
Either they're very bad at scouting WRs, or they're very bad at coaching them. Probably both.

Yup.
Watching all those Stanford games fooled me.
I'll turn in my amateur scout card now and await proper training from a pro, like yourself.

The important thing is I was right.
the important thing is they wasted a 2nd round pick on a guy who isnt better than someone that prefers special teams to offense

Quote"J.J. is kind of the guy now," Pederson said. "He's the one that's in that position, and he's done some nice things in the games. He's gaining a little more confidence in that."

Great
More cynicism less positivity plz.
Barring injury, he doesn't finish this game with more yards than the practice squad guy.
There you go.
"kind of the guy"? That's a ringing endorsement.
Gonna get him a mug that says World's Okayest Second Round Bust.
Billy McMullen was better
I'll give him another year before labeling him an outright bust but based off what we've seen he needs to change his game up.

oh well...
with any luck, he's been told that, barring injury, Burnett is getting his snaps today....

Hey Howie this DK Metcalf kid is a beast, there's also this speedy wr McLaurin and a talented sleeper with ups named Dionate Johnson...who are you thinking? Let's reach for the unathletic slow guy who can't play the slot, can't read defenses and can't get open. Smartest guy in the room.
Let's follow that up next season by not trading up for the clear best wr in the draft Cee Dee Lamb...we're going to take a smaller slower player who's injury prone and played against crap competition then take a horrid qb in round 2.
Reagor is faster than CD and probably better
not sure about the injuries...that may become a thing but talent wise they made the right pick...of course their QB has been lapped by josh Allen so right now it doesn't really matter who the wr's are
They thought this kid was gonna be a new Alshon, they weren't going for a burner. They thought DJax was gonna be that guy last year. Obviously JJAW sucks at everything but you can see their logic.
I'm with igy on Reagor, he hasn't shown anything that worries me yet, only issue has been the availability. Of all the recent draft picks that's not one I find upsetting. Not yet anyway.

Guilty as charged as I fell for the JJAW hype fest:
QuoteArcega-Whiteside adds efficiency to the Eagles' offense from Day 1.
:puke
No one is more efficient than this guy. His 0 catches in three games has gotten the offense off the field faster than anyone.

The #Eagles are trading former 2nd-round WR J.J. Arcega-Whiteside to the #Seahawks for DB Ugo Amadi, per
@TomPelissero
.
Seattle had planned to release Amadi, find a trade partner instead. A fresh start for JJAW
Who go?
Ugo!
QuoteThe Seahawks selected Amadi in the fourth round of the 2019 draft. He appeared in all 17 games with seven starts for Seattle last season, recording an interception, six passes defensed, a forced fumble, and two tackles for loss. He was on the field for 55 percent of the team's defensive snaps and 49 percent of special teams snaps in 2021.
Since this guy plays special teams, maybe he's got a chance? Is he better than Jobe?
eagles website had jjaw listed as sixth string TE yesterday so this is a good trade for whoever this new guy is.
Never heard of the guy but it's not possible that he brings less to the table than JJAW
I wish the guy luck, actually. It's not like he was a bad guy. He just sucked. I hope it works out for him in Seattle.
Seattle. Never been.
Do they like players that suck out there?
JJ needs to thank God everyday the birds drafted Jalen Reagor. Reagor's pitiful performance since day one and especially against the Giants last year dropping two TD's and his playoff game at Tampa far overshadow any thing JJ did. Yes Howie blew it on JJ pick but Reagor righ up there with Al Harris, McDougle, Marcus Smith, the Fireman, few other luminaries.
Not complete until Reagor is gone.
Hold up on Al Harris hate there. He Flag Me was frustrating but I defend him against heinous slander such as this!

Correct. Al Harris doesn't belong with that company. (Edit-- wait, did you mean Jon Harris?)
You guys may not have been born:
QuoteJon Harris' brief time with the Eagles stunk from start to finish. In the 1997 NFL Draft, head coach Ray Rhodes chose to gamble the team's first round pick on a player who should have been a mid-round prospect at best.
Harris had only started nineteen games at the University of Virginia when he declared himself eligible for the NFL draft, and his inexperience was evident in his professional career. After two years and only two sacks, Harris was shipped off to the Green Bay Packers in exchange for fellow first-round bust John Michels.
As a final insult, fellow defensive line prospect Trevor Pryce, who was selected three spots below Harris, went on to enjoy a fifteen (and counting) year career in the NFL. As of the 2010 season, Pryce has accumulated four Pro Bowl selections and two Super Bowl championship rings.
Seen a lot of Eagles drafts over the years and Marcus Smith was pretty bad but this was the worst! ESPN had nothing on the guy when the birds selection was read. Berman looked like a deer in the headlights when they cut to him. They went right to commercial while birds fan base went to right to the cyanide.

We were both born-- and both understandably confused when you typed Al Harris, who is a different dude ;-).
That was my bad. Loved Al Harris. I think I was watching Castellanos strike out with the bases loaded (again) while I was typing original comments.
1995 Mike Mamula...cringe.
1996 Jermane Mayberry caused me a wtf reaction but he settled in and had a nice career
1997 Jon Harris...the espn truck didn't even have film of him ready. Another wtf moment. He didn't even expect it.
So for three years I was angry at their drafting. At least they got Bobby T in 95.
I remember the 90s ones but pre-Andy feels like ancient history. They had so many bad ones throughout the 90s. Marcus Smith and Danny Watkins stand out among the 21st century picks. They contributed less than even the likes of Reagor, Mitchell, and McDougle.
Eagles haven't truly botched a top ten pick since Mamula, which ain't that bad when you look at what other teams have done. Yeah Wentz fell apart after a few years, but was the major impetus to the team winning a Super Bowl which is more than can be said about most top 10 picks.
Al Harris makes me think of Jalen Mills. Harris got burned sometimes and got bad flags but also came up with some really timely plays, but it always felt dicey once the pass went in the air. Mills would be remembered the same way if a call or two went against him instead of falling right, like if PI was called against him in the end zone guarding Julio Jones.
Mamula I think gets a worse rap than he deserved. Well, maybe 70% deserved. What really worked against him was all the expectations after he blew up the combine. Then, he was infamous for always getting to the QB like a quarter second late, which was extremely frustrating after a while. Fans couldn't believe the Eagles gave him a second contract, and it wasn't a bad one at that. But it was still in recent memory that sacks became an official stat, and it would be some time before fans would come to appreciate QB hurries, for which Mamula was under-appreciated. He was still over-drafted but wasn't the poster boy bust people remember him as, and in fact still had ok numbers if not for the hype.
