Decided to start a long term thread dedicated to Eagles tailgating. Any links to do with hotels, bars, sightseeing, tailgating recipes, beer, accessories, blah, etc. can be posted here.
I have erased 90% of the thread in this forum that were useless now and will continue to remove threads when they become outdated. (dont worry, your post count stays the same after the threads are removed)
Any great information that will help others in tailgating Philly Style should be placed in this thread. Any tailgating links are appreciated! (I will remove the weaker links if better ones are provided)
A big thanks to all who help out with this "ultimate philly tailgate thread" 8) (Sus birder, Eaglesfan30, etc.)

You mean they don't have water ice anywhere else?
LOL, they sure don't. I've had the opportunity to travel around the country and live on both coasts and now the Mid West and no one more than 100 miles outside Philly knows what water ice is. And get this....those not familiar with Philly cuisine actually think a soft pretzel is supposed to be soft.
Some other interesting things I've picked up in my travels:
1. That news article was right, nobody else in the country knows what Scrapple is. If I ask for it I'm told it's not polite to play board games while eating breakfast.
2. In Seattle, if you order a cheesesteak sandwich you will receive a boneless steak on white break with a slice of cheese on it.
3. I have yet to meet anyone outside of Philly who drinks "wudder".
4. The rest of the country is not priviledged enough to eat Tastykakes. Actually, that is sort of a lie because Tastykake has slowly started to expand to other parts of the country within the last couple years. But I still haven't met a person outside Philly who could tell me what a Chocolate Junior is.
5. You will get a very wierd look from the clerk at a 7-11 if you ask him/her where the Utz potato chips are.
6. No one has a clue what "dippy" eggs are.
7. Aside from the fact that Water Ice is the tastiest oxymoron known to man, the closest thing you will find to it anywhere is commonly known as a Sno Cone, but we have them too.
Also, an interesting tailgating note. I've been to a few Chiefs games since coming out here and I've noticed that there is a large number of people out here who cook breakfast during their tailgate. Eggs, bacon, pancakes. You name it, they cook it. Most people still go with the traditional burgers and hot dogs and since this is KC, lot's of BBQ going on too. I just thought is was a little odd that so many people would cook breakfast right before/after a football game. Especially if it's a late game. Weird people.
Never knew that PSN. The rest of the world clearly sucks. ;)

That it does Murp. That it does.
You're forgetting Peanut Chews and birch beer, hot and sweet cherry peppers, roast pork sandwiches with broccoli rabe and provolone and pork roll. Not to mention, there are no Wawa's.
Enjoy Dallas ;)
Forgot about the WaWa's. There's also no MAC machines. They are strictly called ATM's. Zeps are another food that I forgot too. You definately won't find them anywhere else.
QuoteEnjoy Dallas
Funny you should mention that. I just found out today that I'm still going, just not until after Jan 1. >:( This mean's I won't be down there during football season when the birds play there. I'm going to beg and whine a lot though so hopefully I can get this decision reversed and be down there 'round Sep.
Good luck on your relocation's timing. Just stay away from those grassy knolls.

Well, thanks to Rita's, there is a booming franchise business in water ice. But outside of the immediate Philly area, they call it "Italian ice."
Quote6. No one has a clue what "dippy" eggs are.
My wife's family always ate their eggs that way. Truly disgusting! I always want to yell at her for playing with her food! :-D

Actually, I've been toying with the idea of doing something like that, especially for the 1:00 games. When you get to the parking lot at 8:30 or 9:00, and you're eating by 10:00, a nice omlette with steak or sausage sounds just about right! :)
It's a good an excuse as any to pour maple syrup all over your grill.

For the early games I think that makes sense. Especially since the early game here starts at noon so tailgaters who show up a few hours early are arriving at breakfast time. But I went to the Thursday night game vs Philly back in 2000 and there was a big group of people around me making eggs and bacon and stuff and they told me that's what they always do. Weird tradition.....especially since I don't think an omlette would go well with the beer I'm drinking. Oh well, to each his own.

Is it anything like Stiffler's pale ale?
I don't know if it's still around. My imbibing budget has increased to the point that I can afford wine that comes in a bottle with a cork and beer that doesnt taste funky on that first sip.
Champale was a sweetish tasting ale-type beverage. Perfect hangover material.

Can't say that I have. But at the same time I can say that I haven't either. So I just don't know for sure. I do know this...I have never had it while I was still sober.

I was wondering if the other ale was similar. ;D

Yeah, especially when you could do something simple like buy a cheap card table and just slap a big ass Eagles sticker in the middle of it.
After the game, head over to Mcfaddens across the street at Citizens bank park.... You can stumble over there.....

Hello all, looking for tix, any game. My son and I had such a great time at the Ravens game, tailgating and all, that we would like to make one more game this year. I can't say enough of how great the new stadium is and what a great time we had tailgating. You can be shore that I would make it a point not to do anything stupid while in anyone elses seats.

Guinness ice cream
Makes 1 quart
1/2 vanilla bean, split lengthwise
1 cup whole milk
1 cup heavy cream
2/3 cup Guinness stout
2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons molasses
4 egg yolks
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1. In a medium saucepan, scrape in the vanilla bean seeds. Add the pod, milk, and cream. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Turn off the heat, cover the pan, and let the flavors infuse for 30 minutes.
2. Meanwhile, in a small saucepan over medium-high heat, whisk together the stout and molasses. Bring to a boil and turn off heat.
3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk the yolks, sugar, and vanilla extract. Whisk in a few tablespoons of the hot cream mixture, then slowly whisk in another 1/4 cup of the cream. Add the remaining cream in a steady stream, whisking constantly. Pour the mixture back into the saucepan.
4. Stir the beer mixture into the cream mixture. Cook the custard over medium heat, stirring often with a wooden spoon, for 6 to 8 minutes or until the custard thickens enough to coat the back of the spoon.
5. Strain the mixture into a bowl and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight. Process the custard in an ice cream maker according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Lets be honest. Guinness is good always.
Have you guys never been to a brewery? They all serve some kind of stout ice cream dessert, whether it be in the ice cream, or a stout float. Had both, and they're both surprisingly good.
A stout float sounds farging delicious right about now.
I've had popsicles made from Guinness. Yum.
Any idea how they made em? I just gotta think it'd be hard to freeze guinness... ???

Ingenious
Is there any reason you can't put a beer ball on a water cooler?
I'm not sure the dimensions are right. But assuming the shape of the ball is right, and the length of the neck is right, you also have to think about pressure. Plain water is one thing; carbonated beverages are something else entirely. I doubt the water cooler hardware will reliably handle the pressure. On the other side of the equation, as the beer leaves the ball, you'll be left with a vacuum, which draws air back into the bottle/ball. Eventually you're going to end up with flat beer.
My concern is the length of the neck. An adapter may need to be fabricated.
beer freezes nicely but it also goes flat quite well
Google Local is a great place to find out about hotels, restaurants, etc for any area
A phonebook is good too. Do you have a point?
i just gave in to temptation and bought 2 tix from a bus tour/scalper company for the jags game. pretty good since i won't have to drive so i'll be able to get more shtein-faced than usual since i can sleep it off on the busride home.
Ok, got this new charcoal at the ShopRite store that's perfect for tailgating.
The briquettes are in this cone package with a built-in chimney, which is pretty cool. You just stick it in the grill and light it with no lighter fluid - much better than that instant stuff that has been pre-soaked.
Took a couple to the beach but can't wait to use them this falll at home games.
Go check them out - hope you enjoy.

QuoteI forgot to mention about the bathroom. There is a bathroom which has a toilet with a holding tank underneath the RV. There is a shower, but I have never used it so I am not sure if it works. There is a sink in the bathroom, but again I have never used this so I can't say that it works.
There is an oven, a kitchen sink, and a refrigerator but I have not used any of these and I am not sure if they work.
fail
There is a brake pedal for the driver, but I have never used it, and I don't know if it works.
ha!
what i don't get is, how can you have an rv that i presume was used for tailgating, and not know if the fridge works? am i to believe that in the 3+ years he owned that thing he never once thought to use the fridge for beer and food?
Maybe he supplied the crapper, while somebody else provided the food and beverage. Seems like a deal to me!
that entire rv looks like the crapper. if it wasn't painted green and didn't have a really bad eagles logo on it, no one here would give it a 2nd look.
you can buy a similar rv....less than 10 yrs old that's in much better condition for anywhere between 5 and 10g's and it will come with slightly better fuel efficiency and a fully functioning fridge.
