QuoteVikings give QB Culpepper raise

NFL.com wire reports

MINNEAPOLIS (Aug. 7, 2005) -- Daunte Culpepper and the Minnesota Vikings reached an agreement to restructure the Pro Bowl quarterback's contract.

Rob Brzezinski, the team's vice president for football operations, said the new deal -- given the blessing of new owner Zygi Wilf -- has been in the works since January. Brzezinski declined to divulge specifics, other than to confirm that Culpepper was getting a raise from the terms of the 10-year contract extension he signed in May 2003.

"He's a premier player in this league, and we felt like his contract needed an adjustment to reflect that," Brzezinski said. "Zygi stepped up, like he's done with everything else."

Culpepper's agent, Mason Ashe, didn't immediately return a phone call. Players, enjoying their first day off since training camp began last week, were unavailable for comment.

The Vikings will resume practice Aug. 8 in Mankato.

So he gets a raise only 2 years after signing a 10-year contract?

I wonder if the Vikings did this on their own or if Culpepper's agent started it? If the Vikes did it on a whim, then they're stupid.
