Title: "I'll be there," says Owens.

Quote"I'll be there," Owens told the Inquirer on Friday. "I mean, the bottom line is that I still believe I deserve a new contract. I still believe I deserve more than what they've given me. But I'm not stupid. I'm not about to miss training camp, get fined every day and give them even more reasons to keep from paying me.

"I'll be there but I won't be happy, I can tell you that much. Take from that whatever you want."

Happiness is not part of the contract. Perhaps Rosenhaus can get that clause in his new deal.

... do you think he found out we tried to trade him for Kevin Johnson? :paranoid

If he shows up it will be a circus and a distraction, if he doesn't show up it will be a circus and a distraction.  So he might as well show up and get even more work with Donovan and the offense IMO.

As the sponsor for "Team Owens" I am appalled at the treatment my player is getting on these threads.  I have a spread sheet listing all the derogatory statements made during the off season and mark my words they will all resurface when Owens is shattering records and winning Superbowls for us.

You are all on report.

As the Sponsor of Jeff Lurie, I have a sheet listing *ahem* contract that was signed by Eldorado. If/When he shatters records, he will continue going about his business per the contract. Any deviation or breach will constitute terms for non-payment/fines/suspensions. Same goes for you Yeti. I own you.

Basically, TO says, "I'll be in camp" and Rosenhaus (not unlike when he spoke for Hugh while Hugh was saying "its not about the money" and Rosenhaus said, "its about the money") is now backtracking and saying that its not a definite decision, even though TO already said it was.

T.O.'s beef isn't with the Eagles.  It's with Gene Upshaw the the NFLPA who allowed the type of contracts that are not guaranteed to be utilized by the teams.

It's a stacked deck for the owners because it has to be.  If T.O. doesn't like that, he should quit the sport and run for Upshaw's position.

This is from a poster on the EMB (Bob Manigan) who lives in the DC area:

QuoteHas anyone else heard this one?
I was listening to Sportstalk980 down here in the DC area, and Sal Pal was on there with Kornhieser.

Sal Pal said AR is upset because he flat out asked TO if he understands the money is in the first and third yr, TO said yes. AR asked if TO understood only the first two yrs were guarenteed, TO again said yes. AR specificlly asked TO, do you have a problem with this contract and will you become a problem over this contract, TO said NO and NO. Now TO has gone against everything discussed, and the FO is pissed. Sal Pal added the Eagles appear to be ready to suspend him for the yr.

It also appears to have elevated to the League Office. Not only do the Eagles want to prove a point with TO, but the NFL doesnt want the Eagles to give in on this matter. If the Eagles give in while the NFL is trying to renegotiate the CBA the NFL fears things will spiral out of control. This issue is bigger than the Eagles vs. TO

Interesting info if Sal Pal is telling the truth.

Look, I understand you're a huge fan of T.O.'s so you're naturally going to be biased, but holding any acrimony towards Big Red over something Owens instigated with his own reckless and stupid behavior is ludicrous.

Goddammit... I hate these farging useless T.O. discussions.  (Note to self... stop posting in these threads, dumbass.)

I think it would be a big mistake. Sometimes I take Andy's word for it, sometimes I don't. In this situation just like with Trotter, it would be a huge mistake. Andy is a great coach, but he's not perfect. I would be mad at Andy if he did it, and would be mad for quite a while. Suspending him is ridiculous. TO is wrong, but cmon we need his production. If TO doesn't show up for a game or two then I'd understand, but right now?

With that said I did say that I severely doubt it will happen. Andy isn't dumb and that would be a dumb move. I'm not putting a gun to your head and telling you this is the right way to think. You don't have to agree with me on this situation, but don't act like I have no right to disagree with the man. I can only go with how I feel on a situation. I'm not going to lie to myself.

I have trouble believing that story.  Since when does AR ever let anything like that out where would Sal Pal come up with that source? It also makes no sense to suspend him for the season.  Bottom line IMO is that the Eagles don't need TO to get tot he SB, but they do need him to win it.  Hell even Ike Reese said it after he left town.

You have every right to believe what you believe, dude.  I disagree with you in this instance because Andy Reid has proven to be (1) a man of his word, and (2) a man of integrity.   He does exactly wtf he says he's going to do and doesn't waver in his beliefs.

Knowing that, what possible conclusion can you draw other than if T.O. pulls any shtein in camp, Reid will send him packing like so much dog food?

Title: Re: "I'll be there," says Owens.
Post by: WEST is GOD on July 26, 2005, 08:04:26 PM
Well we don't know if Andy even said that yet.

Duce sat out all of training camp, and Andy played him, and there wasn't any problems. If TO holds out I expect the same to happen once the season rolls along. If TO shows up and causes problems, then it depends on how much of a problem he is. If he answers questions at camp and says stuff like "I still want a new deal, etc, etc" then it's no big deal. If he starts taking shots at Andy then we'll see. Andy doesn't suspend people often unless they get involved in substance abuse or something. He's never had to. I can't say yet because we've never had someone on the Eagles before that was as outspoken as TO. We both have no previous incidents to go by. Freddie never ripped Andy or anything. The thing is, this rumor says that Andy is ready to suspend him now. Even before camp starts. That is what makes it so ridiculous. If TO rips Andy, Banner, Lurie and McNabb at camp then maybe Andy has no choice, but it hasn't gotten there yet. Welbourn criticized Andy, but never took it to where TO is capable of taking it. Andy traded Welbourn, but no one wants TO. It's hard to forsee the outcome of this situation if things spiral out of control. TO is so great.

We're discussing a hypothetical situation here, therefore, nothing is set in stone.

However, like I said, Reid has been nothing but ultra-consistent in how he's handled mini-mutinys in the past, and regardless of talent or payroll or whatever, it's my belief that he'll stay true to those beliefs and send anyone packing who he feels is a malcontent.

And when I say "send packing" I'm not talking about a release or a trade; I'm talking about punitive actions that will result in T.O. sitting his ass down until Reid is good and ready to have him back.

T.O. & Rosenhaus have woefully misjudged the will and fortitude of this organization, and while I think T.O. will ultimately come to his senses over this, the fact is that if he doesn't, the Trotter fiasco and the Duce Staley holdout will look like popcorn farts in comparison.

To me this sounds like the media throwing stuff against the wall to see what will stick.  ATH and PTI have both done segments the last two days on TO/McNabb.

HOW-EVAH!

If TO comes in and tries to make amends, Reid will forgive and forget, and McNabb will forgive.  If TO comes in and makes a lot of trouble, he may find AR to be like a brick wall.  There is no question about it, this team is Andy Reid's, and what he says goes.

TO has already cost himself $$$ in this face-off, IMO.  He'll find the market to be just a little bit smaller than anticipated, and I believe that he's burned too many bridges to be kept after this season.

I agree with that to a point but I could see him trying to use that as leverage during the season and being a distraction.  If that happens it could be bad.

With Sal Pal I have learned to take every thing he says with a grain of salt.  He used to be an awesome journalist until he got caught up in all of the ESPN hype.

Like I've said before - there have been total dickheads throughout the history of sports and some of them have been on winning teams and been their teams catalyst or one of them. I can deal with TO acting like this. He's throwing a temper tantrum. He's not stabbing folks, snorting cocaine, filming sexual assaults in a house used specifically for the team to bang women at or any of those type things.

I want a Super Bowl. TO increases the chance of winning one drastically. If I have to put up with listening to him cry, I'll listen as long as it brings us what we all want.

I cheer for the Jerseys. I could care less about the individuals. I loved the Eagles when the let Reggie and Seth walk away. I loved them with Tose, Braman and Lurie. I loved them with McCormack, Vermiel, Campbell, Buddy, Kotite, Rhodes and Reid. I could care less about any of the personallities. Just love the shirts.

Right, because TO is the only guy who EVER held out and asked for more money. He's not an embarrassment as a human being...are you kidding me? Criminals who still play the game and get paid for it ARE.

TO's not the sharpest tool in the shed and way too easily manipulated, but to say he's an embarrassment as a human being is pretty dumb.

This is also coming from a guy who cries when you call someone a fatass.

I was a hard-sell on his "I've changed" message, and I was one of the few who didn't want him because of his attitude, not his playing ability.  Clearly, last year he made the offense much better, even when he didn't catch TDs.  By the end of the season, I'd bought into the whole story, defending him about the "yelling at McNabb" during the Pitt game, etc.  His performance in the SB was legendary.

Which is why I feel a little betrayed by all his off-season bullshtein.  Stupid to feel that way, since I am not on the team nor have any vested interest beyond being a fan, but can't deny the feeling none-the-less.  Which is why I'm in the Dio camp of dump him, and moreso in the RJS camp of burn him.

F that.  I say we dump anyone on the team immediately who's ever somewhat publicly complained about anything whatsoever.  I mean... we're never going to win a championship with a bunch of whiners!!

Donovan's obviously gone.  That whiny POS.  Racism, puking in the Super Bowl, etc etc
Westbrook (contract), Buckhalter (playing time)... gone. gone.
T.O., Pinkston, and McMullen all have to go.  Pinkston complains about being labeled a wimp.  McMullen complains about learning the playbook.  ADIOS MUTHAFARGAS!
Runyan & Tra... quit whining about your stupid backs and/or contracts and HIT THE ROAD!
Hugh, McDougle, Hollis, Corey... Buh-bye buttlicks!  Don't let the door hit your fat asses on the way out!
Trotter for a few years ago, Dhani for complaining his signing was overshadowed by Jevon and T.O... LATER BITCHES!
Luckily, I don't think we have any whiners in the secondary.  So we got THAT goin' for us... which is nice.

New starting offense:
QB - "platoon" of Mikey McMahon & King Koybra
RB - "three-headed monster" of MOATS/MAHE/MCCOO!!
WR - Greggie Lewis, Justin Jenkins Reggie BROWN (wait, he doesn't have a contract yet)
TE - L.J. (MVP! MVP!)
OL - Herremans, Hicks, Fraley, Andrews, Sciullo... FEEL THE POWER!
DL - Kalu, Kearse, Walker, Patterson (who's first off the bench?)
LB - Labinjo (mike), Greg Richmond (sam), Keith Adams (Simoneau still wouldn't break the starting lineup)
DB - same ol' crew of Dawk, Lewis, Shep, and Pup

SUPER BOWL CHAMPS, BAYBEEEEEE!!! w0oo0o0ooT!

Wed, 27 Jul 2005 15:07:49 -0700

KFFL has learned Philadelphia Eagles WR Terrell Owens will report to training camp on time and will reportedly not leave the team after he shows up. Owens is hopeful by reporting the team will see he is committed to them and if he performs well, he will have his contract renegotiated in his favor.

QuoteTerrell Owens made kids smile.

Wednesday afternoon in West Philadelphia, the Kids Smiles organization opened its second non-profit dental center and did so by featuring a special guest.

"T.O. takes time out for teeth" was the theme of the event.

Owens brought out smiles in a few dozen children and discussed the importance of dental hygiene. Though he isn't the most popular athlete in the city at the moment, one wouldn't have known it from watching Owens or the kids.

"It's a good thing that they had me do for the kids," Owens said. "Basically stressing the importance of eating healthy, good hygiene, brushing their teeth, and eating healthy snacks. Nowadays kids are on the couch, playing a lot of video games, snacking and eating candy and stuff right before they go to bed. We're just trying to educate them."

Owens was his usual, captivating self. Near the end of his talk, he pointed out how he uses his smile on the field."When I'm scoring touchdowns on people," Owens said, "I just look back at them and ... (Owens breaks into a large grin) ... smile."

Fortunately, after addressing the children, T.O. took a timeout to speak with the media, who, as expected, inquired into more than the benefits of brushing ones teeth.

First, Owens addressed the impact his contract issues have taken on his public perception. After the Super Bowl, Owens had the key to the city. But now he's dropped it.

Based on a recent poll on this Web site, the overwhelming majority of Eagles fans would rather see the team let Owens hold out than succumb to his demands or trade him.

In justifying his desire for a new contract, Owens drew the fans' wrath by claiming he needed more money to "feed his family." Or did he?

"I never said 'feed my family,' " Owens said. "When someone says they want to take care of their family, maybe that falls under that category, but I never said that specifically – feeding my family. So that's what's really been taken out of context, and it's sad to say that that gets out there. Then people look at me as someone who is selfish and greedy."

Owens explained how he is his family's primary provider.

"I am basically the father that my mom never had, the father that my brothers and sisters don't have," he said. "That's what people don't understand. I am the father of my family. Anything comes about, everything falls on my shoulders. That's what they don't understand. I'm taking care of myself, my kids, my brother and sister, my mom, my grandmother – who's suffering right now – so I'm taking care of a lot of things. So it's not just me."

Owens admitted that this ordeal has been tiresome.

"It definitely has. I thought last year, with the trade situation – I thought that was special. But this has taken a toll on me," he said. "I'm going to do whatever I need to do for my family. If that's playing here or playing elsewhere, then that's what I have to do."

But Owens didn't act or sound like someone who wanted to leave Philadelphia. This is the second time in a month that Owens has flown in to visit area children. Earlier this month, Owens appeared at a football camp on the Main Line.

"The fans here have been great. That's what I really want to stress – it's not the fans that I have a problem with. It's not them. It's not all of my teammates that I have a problem with. Business is business," Owens said.

"I love the Eagles fans. They're part of the reason that I had the success last year. Sort of like the No. 1 reason why I rehabbed my butt off so bad because they wanted me back. They wanted to see T.O. play in the Super Bowl. I kept that in the back of my mind."

Still, Owens insists his request for more money is justified.

"People don't understand. If they were in my shoes, and what I've done on the field, they understand the contractual situation surrounding me – then they know my current contract is unfair," he said. "That's what I can't really try to make the public know. If somebody can educate them on how everything is, then maybe they'll have a better understanding as far as some of the things I'm trying to do."

Next Monday, Eagles veterans are required to report to Lehigh for training camp. Last week, Owens made a shocking announcement by saying he would arrive on time. However, agent Drew Rosenhaus almost immediately contradicted Owens' claim, stating that the final decision had not yet been made.

So T.O., where will you be this time next week?

"Who's to say?" Owens said. "Who's to say?"

On the bright side, Owens doesn't need training camp to get in shape.

"Last week I got on the track – that's the fastest I've ever run," he said. "The guy I ran against – he's pretty fast, faster than I thought. We honestly ran some 4-3's (40-yard dashes). I'm a workout demon. I'm going to continue to work out, no matter what the situation is."

Bahahaha!  Even hacks at the Orlando Slantinel are having trouble digesting the T.O. melodrama:

QuoteAthletes prove that holding out is all relative
Published July 28, 2005

Most financial advisers would love to invest $50 million. But when it comes to Terrell Owens, they'd need a minute to compose themselves first.

"It makes you want to pull a wastebasket out and puke," said one Orlando money manager.

He didn't want his name used because it wouldn't be professional to throw up on anyone's financial plans. But every day, clients come to him worried about the future.

In that sense, they're no different than T.O. In another sense, none of his clients have spent the offseason threatening to hold out if the Philadelphia Eagles don't tear up a $50 million contract and offer a better deal.

Owens cites many reasons he needs a raise. A lot of them even make sense. But predictably, he has fallen back on one that doesn't.

T.O says he needs to "take care of my family." Athletes have been trotting that out since the first discus thrower threatened to skip Olympia unless the Greeks gave him more oxen.

"My main focus is to take care of my family," New York Knicks forward Kurt Thomas said last year.

Understandable because he was only due to make $5.8 million at the time.

"You've got your family to take care of," Gary Payton said in 1997.

He was actually commenting about teammate Shawn Kemp's holdout. Considering the size of Kemp's family, the $107 million deal he eventually got might not have been enough.

As tiresome as contract squabbles are, nothing is lamer than when the jock uses his family as a human shield. It's not that they want more money. They have to make more money, or the kids will start eating paint.

Does Owens really have reason to be worried?

"I'm no bleeding heart," the financial planner said, "but the guy is probably taking home only $4 million a year after taxes."

Let's discount the fact Owens already has banked about $25 million in salary the past nine years. We won't even count what he's made from endorsements or his minor-league basketball career.

If Owens isn't cut and gets only what's left on the remaining six years of his contract, his family would have to get by on about $333,000 a month. His immediate family consists of a son, Terique, who lives with his mother. Hopefully, Owens has his Sharpie handy and will write this down.

"Tax-free bonds," the financial planner said.

It's the safest route for family security, T.O. A 15-year bond at 4 percent interest will put $160,000 a year in your pocket without ever touching a dime of principal.

Of course, Owens probably spends $160,000 a year on pedicures. But as his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, points out, players should grab all the money they can because they risk their lives every time they step on the field.

That may sound a little hyperbolic to soldiers in Iraq, who risk their lives for an average of $34,000 a year. But unlike T.O, they get free housing. And Congress recently bumped the death benefit from $12,000 to $100,000. If the worst happens, at least their families still can afford cable.

Like any good father, Owens only wants only the best for his family. But at $50 an hour, he could pay for only 54.8 years of piano lessons for Terique. As for college, he will be able to send his son to Harvard 476 times before it's student loan time.

Is it any wonder T.O. is worried?

Yeah, it's easy to pick on Owens about this. By NFL standards, he really does deserve a raise.

It's just hard to be sympathetic when you're puking into a wastebasket.

He never said I need to FEED my family, he said he wants to take care of his family. That doesn't really make the statement make anymore sense. So the 25+ mil he's already made from his years in the league are gone or something? QuoteREID ON T.O.: EVERYTHING IS O.K.

July 29, 2005
By ZACH BERMAN

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- There was enough going on with the Eagles that for the first time in awhile, Terrell Owens didn't lead the stories on Friday. When he was addressed in head coach Andy Reid's press conference Friday, there were no frills. No surprises.

The position is the same it's been all summer: Coach Reid expects Owens to be at training camp and pick up where he left off.

"I expect T.O. to come in and be T.O," Reid said. "We expect him to come in and help us win a Super Bowl. It's that simple. That's the way I'm going to approach it. We're going to take it day-by-day."

Reid said he spoke with Owens three days ago, and they were open with each other. He didn't go into details about the extent of the conversation and refused to engage in speculation about the nature of any of the claims widely publicized by the media during the offseason.

In fact, Reid went as far as saying that neither Owens - nor his agent - directly insisted that the Pro Bowl receiver was going to miss training camp. Reid also put to rest any speculation about a supposed rift between Owens and quarterback Donovan McNabb.

"If there is a problem, they'll work it out," Reid said. "I've talked to those guys and there doesn't seem to be a magnified problem there. I'm sure they'll get together and talk about those issues - if there are any
."

There were also published reports in the past few weeks about defensive tackle Corey Simon's status. The defensive tackle was designated with the team's franchise player tag during the offseason. Simon has yet to sign the franchise tender. Reid hasn't spoken with Simon recently, and that's as much as he said about the situation.

Reid is eager to begin training camp. He insists none of the offseason chatter will have an effect on the Eagles.

"We have a good nucleus of players that have been here for awhile," Reid said. "They understand what we're all about and trying to accomplish. They don't get fazed by much. They'll be rocks, go out there and do their jobs and the young guys will follow."

McNabb says he has no issues with T.O.

By ROB MAADDI, AP Sports Writer
July 30, 2005
BETHLEHEM, Pa. (AP) -- Donovan McNabb would rather exchange high-fives with Terrell Owens instead of harsh words.

McNabb said Saturday he doesn't need to work out any differences with Owens, even though the five-time Pro Bowl quarterback and the All-Pro wide receiver squabbled during the Philadelphia Eagles' tumultuous offseason.

``Everything is going to be fine,'' McNabb said after the defending NFC champions held their first practice at training camp. ``I know you guys are looking for a story, for us to start fighting or stuff like that. Sorry if I don't give that to you, but I'm just going to be me.''

Owens is due in camp with the rest of the team on Monday -- the rookies and some other players reported Friday night. Though he skipped minicamps to protest because he wants a new contract, Owens already said he plans to show up.

McNabb looks forward to throwing to his favorite target. The flashy Owens set team records with 14 touchdown receptions and seven 100-yard games, and finished with 77 catches for 1,200 yards last season. He defied his doctor's advice, returned from a broken leg and severely sprained right ankle injury and had nine catches for 122 yards in the Super Bowl.

``I think it's good that we are finally going to put this to bed and focus on our goal, obviously to make sure we are prepared and our chemistry is where it needs to be on the offensive side,'' McNabb said.

Owens started the trouble when he took a shot at McNabb, saying he ``wasn't the guy who got tired in the Super Bowl.''

McNabb insisted he didn't get sick and wasn't tired in the fourth quarter of the 24-21 loss to New England.

``Just keep my name out of your mouth,'' McNabb responded. ``Don't try to throw names or guys under the bus to better yourself.''

McNabb said he has spoken to Owens since making those comments. However, their relationship clearly isn't the same as it once was. Owens wasn't among the seven teammates that joined McNabb for offseason workouts in Arizona.

``My parents continue to instill in my head that the best way to handle the situation is to continue to lift your chin up, understand what is going on, and continue to move forward,'' McNabb said.

``In a situation like this, if it's T.O. or Bernard Hopkins, whoever may decide to take shots, the best way to handle it is to be yourself and being able to understand what is at hand. What's at hand is for me to be prepared and ready to go lead this team to a Super Bowl win.''

Hopkins, the former undisputed middleweight champion and a Philadelphia native, blamed McNabb for the Eagles' loss to the Patriots in a television interview in March.

McNabb is coming off his best season in six years in Philadelphia. He threw for 3,875 yards and 31 TDs, leading the Eagles to the Super Bowl after three consecutive losses in the NFC title game.

Owens and McNabb got along just fine last year, never missing an opportunity to praise each other. But Owens hasn't been popular in Philadelphia since he started complaining with his new agent Drew Rosenhaus about the seven-year, $48.97 million deal he signed after coming to the Eagles in March 2004.

That article is a bit mis-leading on one thing -- that 'keep your name outta my mouth' quote was actually from the post draft min-camp but the AP made it sound like he said it yesterday.

They said on CSN that Donovan took 20 questions and 10 of them were about TO. WHen he got up from the PC he was like "no more TO questions, this is it" but he was laughing and joking about it. But I'm sure that some writer will make it sound as if McNabb was yelling and pissed about it.

He also said "I don't think anyone has gone through as much as I have in 6 years" or something like that in reference to controversey.

The media doesn't care about the integrity in their reporting anymore. Nevermind reporting events truthfully and with accuracy, anything that will stir up controversy and make for a flashy headline.

Maybe Steve Carlton had the right idea.  Cut out the media entirely.

McNabb puts much with more crap from the media than should be reasonable expected of anyone.

If he's gonna be there, then he must be.  It takes time to travel, even for the rich.  You'll want to have some sleep before the first day, too.

I guess little Nicky Fierro must be learning from his colleague at the Trenton Times, Mark Eckel. :-D

In a rare moment yesterday, I was able to pick to ESPN920 radio at work. I was listening to some guy talking about McNabb and he was praising Donovan to no end for the way he deals with controversey. Although he did say that McNabb is rapidly approaching the "can't win a big game" status, which I don't agree with. But this guy (Jason Smith?) even said that McNabb was joking about the no-more-TO-questions line.

QuoteOwens and the remainder of the Eagles' veterans are expected to be checked in at Lehigh University by 5 p.m. today.

From today's paper.
