DC is actually starting to get kind of known for it's burgers. the best burger place i've ever been to is hell burger in arlington but there are some little boutique burger joints downtown that are really good too.

hit me up if you want to get together for a beer or 12.

Wow, I dont hate this place as much as I thought I did. I'm already hungry.

Im gonna be in Arlington for a day and night, then DC for the same, so I'll be able to hit a few of these spots. I'll post my reviews when I get back - because I know you'll all be dying to know where I went.

Edit: I'm already swaying toward hell burger

if you're staying in arlington and want steak over burger, the same guy does ray's the steaks in courthouse. i lived a block away for a few years and it's great. better than mortons or ruth chris or any of that shtein. plus you'll probably see john thompson there.

Something dead. Formerly a cow, preferably. Maybe a BBQ joint?

Definitely somewhere with beer. And scotch. Yea, beer and scotch is a must.

dc chophouse is bleh...nothing bad but certainly not a place to go out of your way for

this is probably the best steak in town http://www.jgsteakhousewashingtondc.com/

bourbon in adams morgan is a cool spot...for some reason their website doesnt seem to be up

brassiere beck is a belgian beer restuarant with good food...i know the girl who runs their private parties and special functions so i could probably get you some sort of hook up...if you are interested in going let me know - http://www.beckdc.com/

georgia browns is good upscale soul food - http://www.gbrowns.com/

old ebbitt grill is great if you wanna taste of classic old school dc - http://www.ebbitt.com/main/home.cfm?Section=Main&Category=About_the_Ebbitt

palena is one of my favorites....sit in their cafe (at the bar if you can get a seat) and get either hamburger (which is off the charts good) or their roasted chicken which they are famous for and is also amazing - http://www.palenarestaurant.com/ - then after dinner go to the cleveland park sports bar and grill a blck down and sit on their rooftop for a few drinks - http://www.cpbargrill.com/

i agree with all of these.  also if you're in chinatown, check out zatinya. one of my favorites. it's jose andres' place and it's small dishes that you get a few of and they have an outdoor patio. i go at least once every two weeks.

You guys are terrific sometimes. I  just mapquested my hotel and its only a half mile from Hell Burger. I read a few reviews and multiple people claim its the best burger they've ever had, so I think I'll give that a try for lunch..

How good is Georgia Browns? I'm a HUGE soul food fan..

georgia browns is probably a B....their brunch tho is A+++ but you wont be here for that

if its right near your hotel theres nothign wrong with rays burger but palena smashes it

Nice list IGY.  I'm going to have to check some of these out while I am in town.  I have been pretty limited to:
DC Steakhouse
RFD
Clydes
Capital Grille
I'm not from Philly but some say I'm blunt.

you need to venture out of penn quarter and away from chain central

i dont even know what dc steakhouse is so that could be good.....but the rest are just nicer versions of chain restaurants...altho ive heard capital grilles are really good i cant bring myself to go to a rest like that is in very major city

I hear you.  Problem is, we usually pick something that is close to the office (2 blocks from the verizon center) since we are scattered throughout the city (and outside the city in some cases) and don't have cars.  I did have some good malysian down on 19/20th and M street, but that was a chain as well. (there are one or two in NY and one in Chicago, I think)

yeah verizon = penn quarter...that whole area is so sterile and basically makes me nauseous
