By now you probably noticed the new forum up near the top of the board. Fan_Since_64 and I have ended our long-running feud over which CSI is the best one, and we're happy to say he's back. To celebrate, he's updating all his old articles and I'm going to watch from right outside his window. Right now he's completed the first of what should be at least 8 updates. :yay
We're officially retiring all the old fake news articles, and would like to thank them for everything they've given us over the last 8 years. Now the front page will be just 64's hard work, unless we change our minds and start doing fake news again. Maybe a series of lolcat-styled images featuring players and coaches.
So that I don't have to deal with any more content management systems, 64's hard work will have its own section of the board. The newest ones will show up on the new front page, unless I've completely screwed up.
:yay
there's a front page?
Thanks for the intro, GF :yay
For those of you who remember the Greatest Eagles by the Numbers series, it's on its way back. There are profiles that need to be updated and changes to be made to the list itself - it was originally compiled in 2000 and we've had some players come along since then who clearly deserve recognition (sorry Joe Muha, but Brian Westbrook has left you in the dust at #36). There are also some numbers where I've re-thought my original selections - so be prepared for some surprises.
For those of you who are new to the series, it started out one evening when I sat down and started listing the best players in Eagles history by uniform number (I know, I know, I need a life! :P ). I posted the first 30 (or so) on the Eagles message board (where CF's founders all met) and was so overwhelmed by the positive response that I began to develop it into a series of player profiles. GF graciously offered to make CF the home of the profile series, and after years of neglect, I'm reintroducing them. I hope to update twice a week (more or less), so stay tuned.
Feel free to share feedback on each - stories (PG has led the way on Tony Franklin. Thanks! ;) ), reactions (does this selection make you happy? Ill? Bring back memories, good or bad? Did I blow the selection? Hey, it's hardly an exact science, and the Eagles haven't exactly had All-Pros at every number! ;) ), etc. There are still ties (two- and three-way) at several numbers, which I know is an annoyance to some, but if you can choose between, for example, Bucko Kilroy, Bob Brown, and Jerry Sisemore at #76, be my guest!
I guess that covers it for now - there is room for developing other Eagles history-related material, but that's for another day. Unless GF and I start fighting over CSI again! :-D

No. No you can not.

I look forward to the write up on Derrick Witherspoon.
Good to see ya back, 64. :yay
Bullshtein, Jay. We all know #31 belongs to Al!
New banner is up, too. If you were on during the five minutes I spent getting it up, keep refreshing until it stops looking blurry.

Just noticed it. You're gonna have to change it again once the Eagles trade Sheldon for Boldin.
Along with this one, Mad-Lad got the all Joe Banner banner ready for when McNabb gets traded for Cutler and Sheldon gets traded for Boldin.
Ha!
Great new banner, BTW.
Mad-Lad is still around?
Nice banner by the way

True (or Wilbert), but I just wanted to drop a Witherspoon reference.
Who's the best at #54?
Nell Carter
Nate Wayne?

Keep guessing ;)
Nah.
One more guess: Jim Ringo?
Me. I'm the best #54. :)
No.

^^^ Hahaha... ^^^
If you look close, someone carved 54 into the side of that mountain.

You are correct, sir. 8)
And GF, if you stare at the mound in front of the mountain long enough, it begins to take on the shape of Bucko Kilroy's head. But I wouldn't recommend staring at it that long. :paranoid
I was pulling for Britt Hagar.
I thought Hagar was Norse, not British.

I remember him returning a kickoff for a TD against Arizona in the game that clinched a playoff spot in 95'. Can't believe that was 14 years ago already...
Yeah, no shtein...makes me feel old. Whatever happened to him? He fell off the face of the Earth.
My plan to pay about $25 less per year for the concretefield.com domain name was foiled, as Network Solutions was holding it hostage after it had expired. So its paid up again, but it'll take a day or two for that domain name to work again. So now the board works completely through the concretefield.info domain.
Quite the scare, I didn't want to subject myself to the EMB...although quite a few people would have wasted their day on Facebook instead. If you don't mind me asking what's the yearly bill to keep this place going?
$35 for the domain name, $120 for the hosting.
unless you have the unread posts page bookmarked, most heads wont figure out how to get in here Im assuming

but the good thing is you make up all that plus some with the sale of CF hats and t--shirts

They'll be back tomorrow or Sunday, then.
DIGGIN on that new banner. Although my idea about The FO on one side and the shtein headed coaching staff on the other I think would be appropriate for April 1st? Yes, No??? Shall we vote?
This board is not a democracy.
I was worried...I thought it was hacked. By some Brazilian concrete contractors.
okay if we can't hate on the FO and coaching staff, how about highlighting all the failures were have acquired for an april 1st banner. reno mahe, greg lewis, lj smith, freddie mitchell, etc....
Aren't you pretty handy with computer graphics? You could do it yourself, or contact Mad-Lad offline to ask him to. G_F putting it up is a crap shoot regardless.
That's it, you're getting the dancing hippos from Fantasia on the next banner.

I could but I don't want to step on toes, plus MAD-LAD has his own unique style with the CF stuff so I'd rather him have a go at it before me. I look at it as a way to silently tell the Eagles FO and staff to go farg themselves
might wanna consider allowing "P h u c k" over "f a r g", since this is a Philly website.
Maybe we can change corksucker to Brotherly Lover, too.
Both of those ideas kick ass. Seriously.
Since when were we able to say "ass"? That kicks ass.
Since always, jackass.
ass hole is filtered, iceholes

Ha! That needs to get done.
you weren't asked funholeface
how does the internet cost money. who owns this stuff. do people just claim websites like people claimed territory? who decides these things? al gore? a genie? reese/cole?
I thought you people were born knowing this money stuff
all the money goes to stillupfront and his friends. act nice to them and you'll do fine
Um, Sheldon Brown behind Cole AND Samuel?
Gay.
The real travesty is the obvious racism by only having one white guy, and making him go to the back of the banner.
McNabb's right out in front though, so they're like bookends on the other axis.

i didn't put much thought into it other than getting four defensive players who I don't dislike on there.
Yesterday I cleaned my cookies and temp files...now CF makes me log on every time I visit. And the first two-three times I do it I get a Service Temporarily Unavailable message.
Did you check your TCP/IP settings?
Switch your bookmark to .info instead of .com - the board is using that address now for everything.
Turn the anykey knob topwise.
Hi everyone, by now many of you may (or may not, in which case, carry on) have noticed that I've been neglecting the Eagles History section in general and Greatest Eagles by the Numbers in particular. There are a number of reasons, starting with the time I've been devoting to my blog, "Today in Pro Football History" (there's a link in the Ultimate NFL Links thread). Since launch in Oct. 2009, it has taken a great deal of my free time - especially during the season (September thru January) when I irrationally insist on posting every day. It's been worth it, and I'm seeing it begin to draw attention and take off, but it makes it very hard to do something else that is as time-intensive as Greatest Eagles by the Numbers - especially since I still have my day job and other Real Life things to fill up my time. :P
Anyway, feeling a certain loyalty to CF, I have been trying to come up with a way to combine what I'm doing on my own site with the Eagles History section here. While "Today in Pro Football History" covers all of the NFL and other pro leagues of the past (hey, I'm not too choosy, I even put up two posts regarding the XFL last spring), naturally the Eagles get primacy of place. I had suggested to GF that I could post links to Eagles-related entries on my site to the Eagles History section, for anyone who might be interested. Since I am pretty much done with Eagles posts for the next few weeks, I will back load a few (mostly good ones, we need that!). Feel free to comment, of course. Also, while it's stretching the concept of Eagles History slightly, I will post a couple pertaining to Philadelphia franchises that existed in other leagues - most notably, the Stars of the USFL (they brought a championship to Philadelphia, so of course were forced to move and the league folded) and the Bell of the WFL (pure comic relief).
I haven't given up on Greatest Eagles by the Numbers, but for now that will remain on hiatus. Still waiting for that billionaire fan of pro football history to come along who wants to provide the backing for all of this to be my full-time profession (No, I'm not holding my breath :P ).
The difference between '64 and '61, my gawd. You two have been this different since birth, I imagine.
Nice to have you back 64. Looking forward to whatever you end up posting here. Didn't know you had a seperate blog though....will have to check that out.
LOL @ Dio

Good to be back once again! :)
And glad to be pulling the new project together with CF. 8)
Hey, FS64. Didn't know you had the other blog. Good to see you back, and I'll check it out. Hope all is well.
