i dont think its ignorant to not be aware of this issue with the word (its ignorant for the people who use it in a hateful way)

its just shocking to me that there are people who are completely oblivious to the fact that it happens

i mean just being a sports fan you have to remember richard sherman addressing the issue

I am a 35yr old white dude and I have heard the term "thug" used for the organized crime leg-breakers since I was a kid. You can also find the term "jack booted thug" to refer to military soldiers who are violent.

So this was in use way before it started becoming an aka for the n-word.

I do believe that over the recent history this has become a code word however someone who says it doesn't automatically need to be painted as a racist or something. Context means everything.

but let's get down to brass tacks here...how many rap albums do you own and how many episodes of the wire have you seen???

lemonade was a popular drink and it still is

PhillyPhreak54

I have watched the wire six times beginning to end....and I have plenty of old school rap on my iTunes and frequently listen to backspin on Sirus

Elder is a stretch. I have no doubt it can be used that way. I even know that some thugs have embraced it. But that's not the only way. Clearly. It's not like you don't have a bias.
