And by "good luck" I mean die screaming.

garnett missed the final 25 or so games of the year and the celtics still won 62 games.  without garnett, the celtics are the eastern conference runners up rather than nba finalists.

they would still sweep the sixers but they arent even close to the same team without garnett...they could easily lose to orlando miami  or atlanta

hell atlanta took them to seven last year with garnett

Pander to your audience, sportswriter. Pump up the home team fans!

How on earth would I think that a team who has lost 7 straight is going to beat anyone let alone an Orlando team who can ball?

15 minutes....let's see what they can do. I'm not too optimistic, and I hope somehow they can control Howard on the boards. If they can get out and run, they have a shot. But if Orlando makes it a half-court game they are gonna get whipped.

Good showing in the first half; although I'd like to see someone defend Courtney farging Lee while he's ripping off 11pt runs.

Limited the turnovers...I would like to see them drive a bit more though...

Helluva day today...I had the same reaction as you all when Iggy choked away the FT's. But his jumper was fargin money. I thought it wasn't going in, but [steve fredericks] BANG![/fredericks]

Donyell Marshall is a goddamn pimp. To fight back from 18 down was amazing. There is a glimmer of hope....

On a side note, my hatred of Comcast went up another notch. The whole damn game on TNTHD was choppy. Sometimes it was so bad the pic would freeze and I would have to change channels and flip back to get it to work. AFter Iggy drained the shot, as soon as Orlando was about to inbound the ball it went black. When it came back, it was already on the ATL game.

I called them and bitched, but they said it was the channel and not the feed. I don't believe it. Motherfargers.

i didn't have any problems with my feed.  your cable co is full of poo.

also, after iggy made that shot and orlando took a to, why where they allowed to inbound the ball on their side of the court instead of having to go the full length?

Thank you for bringing that up.  I was shocked when they got the ball on their end of the court.

Damm, haven't cheered like that watching a Sixers game in years.

Because this isn't the NCAA.

Quote from: NBA Rulesg. If a 20-second timeout is requested by the offensive team during the last two minutes of the fourth period and/or any overtime period and (1) the ball is out-of-bounds in the backcourt (except for a suspension of play), or (2) after securing the ball from a rebound and prior to any advance of the ball, or (3) after the offensive team secures the ball from a change of possession and prior to any advance of the ball, the timeout should be granted. Upon resumption of play, the team granted the timeout shall have the option of putting the ball into play at the 28' hash mark in the frontcourt or at the designated spot out-of-bounds. If the ball is put into play at the hash mark, the ball may be passed into either the frontcourt or backcourt. If it is passed into the backcourt, the team will receive a new 8-second count.

I think it's a pretty bad rule.

yeah...that's how it works in the nba.  it's been that way forever.  the one new rule i noticed is every ball that's knocked out bounds is automatically off philly & orlando gets the ball.

As bad as they've played their still in it and the Magic haven't impressed me. Just keep it somewhat close to the end and make a move.

only thing i dont like about miller in games like this when he starts hot he then starts gunning when as an excellent passing point he should use his early scoring to set up his passing...instead he ends up taking 20+ shots...which he should never do...when he was underneath the basket a second ago one on three he should have kicked it out for a three

Truth.

I just wish he had a consistent 3 point shooter to kick the ball out to.  He probably would do it more if he wasn't passing it out to Lou or AI.

1. What kind of rotation was that farg DiLeo using?!

2. Can anyone on this team box someone the farg out? They got whipped on the boards all night long.

3. And why was that little icehole Lee left alone half the time? Especially on that three he hit...Miller's standing there looking at him. Wake up!

4. Speaking of Miller...despite the hot start, his ball handling was bad at times tonight. Several bad turnovers.

5. Shot selection....piss poor. Why throw up 18 footers so easily? Drive the ball. Look what happened when Iggy started driving to the hoop.

6. Iggy...nice to see ya finally hit a bucket with 9 mins to go in the 3rd.

This Magic team is beatable. They cannot hold leads. The Sixers should be up 2-0.

Oh, and did y'all see the chowderhead holding up the sign that said "Nobody beats the Magic twice in Van Gundy's House"? Definition of gay.

he/they started driving to the hoop because howard was on the bench with fouls...its easier said than done driving the lane on that monster

Yeah, but you know the guy is prone to fouls. Maybe if you drive to the hoop more you put him in position to get out of the game quicker.

I will say that they have done a good job on Lewis and Eurotrash on the perimeter. But when Johnson and Lee start getting outside, they can't seem to hold them down.

Speaking of Eurotrash....#13 is one ugly farger. Did ya see the beak on that dinosaur?

yeah!

Not necessarily pound it into Dalembert, but rather have Young and Iggy drive the ball into the lane. Or have Miller dribble drive and hope to find an open man. I hate, hate, hate when teams settle for jumpers especially when they are gettin' run on.

Sammy has to stay outta foul trouble.

And DiLeo has to get a decent rotation going.

Glad Thad bailed out IggyChoke.

I think you'd need a bucket to collect all the sweat pouring off him having to shoot FTs at the end of the game.

Clutch play by Thad at the end.

lol guess you missed game one...or the laker game in la

iguodala definitely stiffens up when he has to think about stuff but to call him a choker is to not have watched their games this year

series would be minimum 2-1 orlando without iguopdala

Iggy is a mini Ryan Howard--when he lets his natural instincts take over he's great.  When he has to think about what he's doing his mind gets in the way of his body.

Howard's always been better with his glove than his arm because he lets his natural athletic ability take over.  Iggy is the same way.

That doesn't mean he doesn't have value or the team would be better off without him--just don't put him on the line with the game in his hands because he becomes too self aware.

I liked how they attacked the rim tonight. They didn't settle for those trashy jump shots like they did in game two. That was the biggest reason for winning I think.

Their offense looks terrible now.  I always worry when a bad  3 pt shooting team decides they are going to make a lot of 3s in a half.  Sure enough, they come out in the 2nd half and decide they can keep shooting jumpers.  Eventually the percentages catch back up with them.

they only decide to do become a 3pt team because they know Howard will swat/alter their shtein if they come in the lane. You already saw what happens when he Howard sits on the bench...they all want to to take it strong to the hole

Frustrating to see them come out so cold tonight. They couldn't hit shtein. And another game where they completely ignore the lane and jack up jumpers. Especially when ORL was at the limit. But then again, would they even hit the FTs if they got to the line?

Is Lou Will retarded?

As soon as Trashy Hedo stood there I knew he was gonna jack up a three...oo bad Thad gave him that room to get off a clean shot.

What a zesty game.

Once again, they settle for jumpers and can't hit nary a one. Dalembert and Ratliff get into foul trouble early and its an easy path to the bucket for Howard and anyone else. Donyell Marshall can't defend a lick and Reggie Evans couldn't either.

They looked disoriented and sloppy.

The refs blew everything. There was no flow to the game at all.

QuotePhiladelphia coach Tony DiLeo said Howard should have been called for 3 seconds in the lane several times and asked the league to look into an elbow from Howard on Samuel Dalembert.

"Dwight Howard had a great game, and he's a great player, but he just lives in the 3-second lane on offense and defense," DiLeo said. "I'm just saying he's standing in the 3-second lane on offense and defense. He's a great player, and he doesn't need any advantages."

Magic coach Stan Van Gundy heard DiLeo's remarks, took the podium and defended his star center by taking a shot at DiLeo.

"Am I supposed to come up here and talk about the game. Or am I supposed to come up here and lobby for the calls I want the next game?" Van Gundy said. "Is that what it's about now? We're supposed to lobby for the calls we want the next game? Let's just play the games.

"I guess that's the only reason Dwight's having success in this series. It has nothing to do with the fact that he's good."

Remember when fighting used to be a part of professional basketball? Well, neither do I because I was too young at the time, but can you imagine someone popping you in the face with an elbow in real life and not doing something about it? Just looking around and saying, 'Hey, didn't anyone see that? Wah!'?

I mean, I haven't been in a fight in years and even when I was younger I preferred to avoid them since I don't find it all that enjoyable to beat or be beaten when I'm innocently enjoying a few dozen beers and making fun of everyone's stupid face. But if someone dropped an elbow on my jaw you can bet I'd be swinging and not standing there like a little bitch looking around for someone to notice.

In short, fighting should be re-introduced to the NBA, as god intended. (http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=1FB139CF3602E15D&search_query=kermit+washington+punch)

should there be fighting in the nba?  i don't think so.  i'm all for hard, physical play though.  i thought the rondo foul on brad miller was great.  no flagrant there.

howard's elbow to dalembert?  definitely uncalled for.  however, you take an elbow like that, then consequences be damned, you throw one right back.  if not at that immediate moment, then you do it on the other end of the floor when howard goes up for a bucket or rebound, you drive your elbow right up under his freaking rib cage.  or just punch him in the nuts.  either way, you need to send a message that you ain't gonna take any of his shtein.

i mean, farg, if baseball pitchers, who are the biggest hoydas in all of professional sports, will throw at a guy twice their size......who is also holding a farging bat, then there's no excuse at all for taking an elbow on the chin and not doing anything but look to the refs for a whistle.

Pretty sure I was fooling with the "Thug" comment too, but you might want to call a cheap hooker to untwist your panties, Magic fan.

Bzzt. I'm all for hard play. Bring back the Rick Mahorn style of play and I'm cool with that.

What we saw last night, from Crawford's crew, with the constant whistles for touch fouls 20ft away from the basket was ridiculous. Even worse, every time someone tried to touch Sir Dwight, they got whistled.

Van Gundy benefited from that junk. So DiLeo, a quiet fella, comes out and takes issue with it and that screaming idioot Van Gundy rips him. I wonder if good ol' Stan would have been quiet had the Magic been the ones getting screwed.

Phil Jasner: Sixers' Dalembert taking lumps, earning respect
By Phil Jasner
Philadelphia Daily News

Daily News Sports Writer

GO AHEAD, admit it: You don't like Samuel Dalembert. You think he doesn't have good basketball instincts. You think he makes too many mistakes. You think he's overpaid, that the 76ers need to upgrade his position in the offseason.

As assistant coach Jim Lynam tells Sam when Sam thinks he has been unfairly whistled for a foul, get over it. Go forward, not backward. I like Sam more than most of you. I respect his ability as one of the better shot blockers in the NBA, to play on-the-ball defense, to run the floor. I know he has more than his share of lapses, but I saw him save a game in Houston this season with a defensive rotation. I saw him average nearly a double-double in 2007-08. He doesn't miss games.

Believe me, I'm steeled for an anticipated volley of e-mails, but he also knows more about the game than you seem to think. He knows, for example, exactly what he has been up against trying to defend Orlando's Dwight Howard, something he does not have to concern himself with in tonight's Game 6 of their hammer-and-tong, first-round playoff series.

Sam knows reality, and he knows perception. The reality is, league officials reviewed Howard's first-quarter elbow to Sam's head in Tuesday night's Game 5 and suspended Howard without pay for tonight's game. That's simply the rule: An elbow to the head brings a suspension. It should have brought an ejection, not merely a technical foul, in Game 5.

"The league did what it's supposed to do," Sixers president/general manager Ed Stefanski said. "The refs legitimately called what they saw, and they said they didn't see the contact. It's not unusual for the league to review a play after the fact."

The reality is, Sam and Theo Ratliff will be up against Marcin Gortat and Tony Battie tonight. I remember Jameer Nelson telling me as early as last summer that he thought Gortat could play; the box score of the Magic's second-to-last regular-season game, when Howard rested, shows Gortat taking 18 rebounds. And Battie is a veteran. Oh, and I'm old enough to have been courtside for Game 6 of the 1980 Finals, when Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was out and rookie Magic Johnson jumped center and had one of the most dramatic performances by a visitor in the history of the Spectrum. Jamaal Wilkes played the role of quiet assassin and scored 35 points and the Lakers won the championship. Funny how everybody remembers Magic, and no one seems to remember Wilkes.

Sam, though, has a grip - part serious, part lighthearted - on perception, too, as when somebody asked what might have happened had he been the one throwing the elbow.

"Forget about it," Sam said. "I'd probably get on a boat, go back home to Haiti. Like my teammates were saying, [they'd] probably throw you on a boat, send you back to Haiti.

"It's what it is. It's nothing against Dwight, nothing personal against him. He was frustrated. I should have been frustrated. We can't even guard him. You take a bump, [it's a] foul. You do this, foul. We deal with it; we don't complain. We won some games, and they won some games. In the heat of the moment, he did that. He probably regrets it by now."

Sam laughed and said, "I guess he probably woke up on the wrong side of the bed, and said, 'I'm going to get the Haitian guy.' I can only imagine if I didn't turn my head what would have happened; maybe I wouldn't be able to keep my composure as I did. I was trying to really keep calm. I shook my head a little bit. I was like, 'Whoa, stay in control.' "

The Sixers have said over and over, every time they run the ball up the floor Howard is somehow there. Waiting. Camped out.

"[Tuesday] was unbelievable," Sam said. "Every time we came down the floor, there was a foul called on one of us. I thought it was summertime already. I thought he was on the beach already. I tell the refs, 'He's right here, he's right here. What's going on?' Some people get away with it, some people don't. That's the way it's always been."

At 36, Ratliff has played against his share of dominant big men. He described Howard as "a powerful guy. He's big, a strong guy. If you let him get too many dribbles, he's so strong he can back you underneath the bucket and get easy shots. At this point in my career, he's definitely a difficult guy. The way he can jump, the way he can move around, he's a load. But [with Howard out], we can't let down. Our back is against the wall. If we lose [tonight], we're done. We have to come out with everything we've got."

Dalembert said he saw the elbow coming, said he was glad "I turned my head."

"It's better than my face," he said. "It's not up to me to decide whether he deserves [a suspension] or not, but I think what he did was [unsportsmanlike]. I would never try to do that to any player in the NBA. Once in a while, you're playing hard and things might happen here or there; you don't look to do it. It was a first elbow, and a second one coming after that. One of them would have to hit me."

Whether Sam and Theo have to deal with Gortat or Battie tonight, Sam said, "We need to really get down and play."

And then he said: "My blood is boiling."

And you do have to like him for that. *

2. Samuel Dalembert, Willie Green and Lou Williams are retards. Why the hell is Willie Green shooting jumpers so early in the clock? Why isn't he driving the ball inside? Why does Lou Will step outta bounds and also foul a guy on a 3pt shot after making his own and-1?

3. Why is this team (and this is on that dumbshtein DiLeo) not driving to the hoop?!?!?! The lane is being patrolled by a dumb Pollock and Tony farging Battie. They are jacking up shots and is DiLeo screaming at them? No. Business as usual with these dumbasses.

4. JJ Redick is draining three's on yo asses. Wake up.

5. Can someone REBOUND?!?!

What a lame-ass, uninspired, flat farging performance. I cannot believe their game-plan. Whose ridiculous idea was it to have them shoot 20ft jumpers?

Why couldn't they rebound? Why did they get ran off their own court by a refugee, a preppie bitch, a school-yard baller and some Eurotrash punk?

Oh, and nice wanting to meet Dalembert outside, Hedo.

Iguodala says the team is too young and needs more guys with playoff experience.

FAs: Miller, Ratliff, Marshall, Rush, Ivey (player option)

His contract has two more years ($11.3M and $12.4M...wtf), but they need to look into trading Dalembert somewhere.....anywhere....

UFAs around the league include Kobe (if he wants to opt out), Rasheed, AI, Kidd, Boozer, Artest, Odom, Marion, Jermaine O'Neal (option), Turkoglu, Bibby, Ben Gordon and Drew Gooden

Miller would be fine if he didn't have to carry so much of the scoring load. This team needs some shooters and they need to cut the dead weight. Which is Green, Sammy, Evans, Rush, Ratliff.

Stefanski has his work cut out for him, because they won't be able to sign anyone other than with the MLE and they don't really have anyone to trade unless you want to give up Thad or Speights. I'm not sure this team can go deep in the playoffs with Thad and Iguodala in the same lineup for extended periods of time. Between the two of them, they just can't shoot consistently from the outside. Ultimately, one of them might have to be moved.

I actually wouldn't be pissed if the team traded Lou. He can't shoot and makes so many dumb mistakes. He might still have some trade value. He's one of the few players on the team that can penetrate, but if this team actually had real players then that wouldn't be such a problem.

This team just needs to get lucky and hit the lottery one of these years, but they never will as long as they are going to drift  in mediocrity.

one of the single worst performances ive ever seen in must win game

get miller the farg outta here...his defense is unbelievably bad and his lack of explosiveness is annoying as farg...i would give a decade off my life to trade up and get ricky rubio but obviously thats not happening...but this is a pretty good year for getting a potentially good point guard...no one to fap over like rajon rondo but i like johnny flynn quite a bit and i absolutely love jeff teagues massive upside

still need a shooter...still need interior toughness...ironically what they actually need is a player of elton brands size with the athleticism of the godfather...instead they have a string bean who gets pushed around and an old guy who isnt active at all any more...they need a young active PF...like a leon powe

It's not only him, Ratliff calls Sixers coaching too soft (http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/44113972.html)
QuoteAsked whether he felt he could, as a veteran presence, have helped, he said, "It ain't about veterans."

"The coaches are responsible for guys [being] prepared and playing," he said. "They have to hold guys accountable. It's been that way all year, so you couldn't expect anything different.

"You have to step up and get into guys. If [as the coach] you don't have that type of personality, to be able to go at guys . . . "

I'm not putting all the blame on Dileo but changes need to be made and they need to start with him.

i dont think you can say what kind of coach he would hire yet...he inherited one coach and hired a mid season replacement...the dileo hire doesnt even count...and yes he didnt have to re up cheeks but he had just gotten the job and with the great run they made last spring and cheeks being beloved in the city i cant blame him for that...this next hire is a clean slate all on him hire...ill hold off on judgment til then

The best part of the NHL draft is the reactions from the crowd when the kid stands up to get his jersey and the camera catches his teenage girlfriend and/or sister

Stefanski was on with Missanelli a few minutes ago, he said Sammy asked to be traded at the deadline (can't remember if this was public knowledge or not). Ed said they did have some talks with other teams. I recall a Sammy/LouWill for K-Mart deal being talked about. He says Sammy hasn't approached him again with that request. Ed's straight forward and always PC but reading between the lines Sammy's a goner thank god.

sammy is the least of their worries...hes only got two years left on his deal...i mean if they can move him this year for a contract that expires in 2010 then that would be nice but even that buys you only one year

brand is a much bigger issue because hes locked up for another four years

brand though could be good for 20 mins off the bench should he accept that role

of course its a massive waste of $ but in the least you get some value

sammy on the other hand sucks and is just a total embarrassment of a human being

thats fine but the money has to be even and youre going to get trash back (unless you want to package sammy with iguodala or thad) so whats the point

i mean if you just despise him plain and simple and want him gone then i see what youre saying...but if youre talking about how it effects the team on the court sammy is a non issue and if youre talking about his salary hurting the cap its a relatively small problem (2 years)

Team can't stay the same way. No way Brand's accepting a bench role and I'm 99% sure the offseason plan revolves around him getting healthy. First thing they need to do is to learn how to play with him and go from there. Sammy needs to go because he's a retard, pretty sure Ed can fool some team into thinking he'll change.

since I feel this team will be pretty much dead in the water for at least the next 2 years, I also have a strong feeling that Sammy is going nowhere.

yes hes a complete jackass, but hes average. Some NBA teams dont even have that, so Ed Stef will probably suck it up and keep his 7pts and 9 boards a game, while the 3 core guys develop more with each other until 2011 when Sam, Green and Evans comes off the books. maybe then they will have some loot to grab some perimeter or pull up shooters

right now they dont have squat for cap space and are stuck at the MLE... so acquiring any kind of serious outside threat/s like some more Marshalls and Rushs will not be there..which sucks

Everyone likes Avery Johnson, but I don't get why. He made the Finals and had a great season the following year? Well at the time, the Mavs were the most talented team in the NBA.

The Mavs choked away a 2-0 lead in the Finals, and lost to the 8th seed the following season with the best record in the NBA.

Avery hasn't proven anything except that he can take a super talented team far into the playoffs. Then again, who else is out there?

What does all of that mean?

Absolutely nothing.

Apparently he's not even one of the top 3 candidates for the job, so the Sixers seem to agree with me.

There's a reason no one wanted to hire him in the offseason and no, it had nothing to do with his job at ESPN.

The Magic might want to look into hiring him instead of Ron Jeremy though, because SVG might be a worse coach than Randy Ayers was.

I see you like to use whatever excuse fits your argument. Because you like Avery Johnson, the entire Dallas team is a bunch of losers, but if you didn't like Avery Johnson I'm sure you'd just flip it the other way.

So if you want to blame the players for the playoff debacles, then surely you should want to give the players the credit to the winning accomplishments under Avery too. Can't have it both ways. You can't blame the players when they lose, but when the team wins say it had nothing to do with the players.

As a side note, every candidate in the running for the Sixers who has been a head coach before has a playoff record that is under .500. Not good. Avery is 23-24.

Then we are in agreement about Avery. I never said he's a terrible coach. All I did was question all this unwarranted hype for him. Everyone wants him so bad, you'd think he was Phil Jackson. All I did was play devil's advocate and questioned what exactly makes him so great. -- Jay Wright removed his name from consideration
-- 6 interviews so far (Jordan, Ford, Casey, Rambis, Wright, Thibodeau)
-- Expected to inquire about Johnson and possibly Collins
-- There's been some internal discussion about Budenholzer
-- None of the current assistants (Lynam, Ruland, Loyer, McKie) will be considered
-- The new coach will be allowed to bring his own assistants

QuoteRight now, six have been interviewed and five are still in the game: Eddie Jordan, Dwane Casey, Kurt Rambis, Tom Thibodeau, and Chris Ford appear to remain on Stefanski's list. Villanova coach Jay Wright discussed the opening with Stefanski, then called and essentially said thanks, but no thanks.

Through this opening stage, Stefanski has avoided brand-name guys such as Avery Johnson, Jeff Van Gundy, Doug Collins, and Mike Fratello. Other than Jordan, who has been a head coach in the NBA for more than 500 games, and Ford, an in-house candidate who had success as the Boston Celtics' coach in the 1990s, Stefanski's group includes a handful of promising assistant coaches.

Chris Ford? Are they serious?
