I always wondered what Valchek says at the end of Season 2 in the finale when he gets the last picture of the surveillance van.  looking it up online he says "rest in peace" which goes with my theory that deep down he feels guilty for practically killing frank.

just finished up season 2 on my 3rd re-watch, still my favorite season.

thats a running theme thruout the show....people that on the surface do or should hate someone else really deep down respect them...in the end its the game they hate not the person...in the case of valchek v. frank it was the church game

valchek didnt care give a rats ass about the union much less want frank dead he just wanted his stained glass window
