Title: Wild Card Weekend vs New Orleans Saints
Post by: PhillyPhreak54 on December 29, 2013, 11:54:46 PM
Line opened with the Eagles being favored by 2.5 and the total is 55

Saturday night at The Linc...so they have the short week, but we knew that.

The hype this week is going to be the Saints being zesty on the road. Its going to be played up huge this week ala Tampa and the under 40 degree stuff from a decade ago.

The OL MUST block better because the Saints get after the passer really good. The DL also must be much better. The fact that they have tall DL will help as long as they can push the pocket around Brees.

Let's go.

Or at least hit him once or twice unlike what happened tonight.

Thrilled they won but they need pressure that they didn't get tonight.

Anyone have extras?

They need to stick Cary Williams on Graham. He's a veteran with size and should be able to somewhat contain Graham. The key is the pass rush on Brees. The pr was non existent last night and they have zero shot at beating the Saints if they play like they did last night.

So, um, when do the Saints plan on arriving in the city? I know the snow will not affect the game Saturday night but tomorrow is the typical day before travel day...and thousands of flights have been canceled.

For a team that sucks on the road now may have to deal with not getting in until a late hour?

If you're Billy Davis who do you focus on more...Sproles or Graham?

I'd look to stop Graham more. I'd like to see Barwin line up over him at the LOS to jam him and then pass him off to Williams...sort of like the bracketing that NE did on him.

Sproles is gonna get his because who can cover him? They're going to look to match him up on Cole or Ryans...maybe Kendricks can run with him a bit but I doubt it
Title: Re: Wild Card Weekend vs New Orleans Saints
Post by: hbionic on January 03, 2014, 05:57:23 PM
Mark Ingram and Sproles seem to have had less than average years. I don't remember seeing any of them on any highlights and most highlights came through the air.

There are lots of veterans on that team. The key is going to be getting pressure on Brees...something this defense isn't known for. But even more key will be keeping Brees off the field, something our offense can do if they wanted.

Post by: PhillyPhreak54 on January 03, 2014, 06:15:54 PM
Yeah I don't worry about their rushing attack...Shady has more yards that their entire team....but Sproles on wheel routes and dump offs is dangerous.

Eagles - 30
Saints - 24

All of the ESPN pre-game guys picked the Eagles...I don't like when it is a clean sweep. Not sure who the NFL Network people picked.

Peter King is on the Birds too.

I don't know what you guys have experienced, but a lot of neutral fans I know have liked the Eagles all year. People like Kelly and enjoy the offensive fireworks, and are generally pulling for them in the playoffs. It also doesn't hurt that they eliminated the Cowboys, and no one likes the Cowboys. Not sure how much that rubs off on the NFL media.

Most people I run across down here are swayed because of an allegiance to the Cowboys or Saints. There is a heavy Who Dat contingent in Houston. So for the last two weeks its been a heavy anti-Eagle sentiment around me.

I enjoy when the Eagles win because then I can pull my overly smug Ruben Amaro Jr impression off.

Agree, one play doesn't prove or disprove a point. And good point about a FB/H back - it would make McCoy follow a blocker rather than dance until a hole closes. He needs to mix it up by hitting the hole fast, alternating with being patient sometime and can be his own change of pace back if they aren't going to put anyone else in there.

I was more worried about that when they were slowly moving. The big play solved that. If the Eagles don't get the ball back now, it's due to defensive collapse. Nothing they can do about that.

Nail in the coffin yes, but the critical plays were much earlier - not getting points off a turnover, Foles taking a horrible sack taking them out of FG range, Coopers drop on 3rd down, not stopping the saints on a 3rd down etc. The plays that lost the game didn't happen near the end imo.

Honestly, it's alright. We knew this defense wasn't very good and we knew they weren't going to win the Super Bowl. The season annihilated all expectations and I couldn't have drawn it up much better. Howie, start finding some nasty motherfargers for this defense.

For the rest of this season I just hope the fraud Packers get eliminated so the NFC can send a worthy team to the SB.

We can sit here and pick apart the team, or we can just acknowledge they overperformed this season. Sure, it's a bummer they lost and yeah I want a Superbowl as bad as the next fan, but there's not enough talent to make that happen this season. They desperately need another playmaking WR, DE who can collapse a pocket, and DB not named Chung. If you asked me prior to the start of the season would I call 10-6, winning the East, and a first round loss a success, I'd of said hell yeah. Pretty sure my ceiling prediction was in the 8 win range and thought they'd only win 6.

Chip proved he is not overmatched and that he can be a legit HC. They have another off-season to fix the holes and then come back and dominate next year.

That horsecollar tackle definitely saved a touchdown. Shame the legs are still whole, though.

I watched it again and you are correct. Sproles was gone if Williams doesn't do something.  He had only the tooth pick to beat if he gets past Williams.  What a farging horrible kick.  Birds would have been better off had he scored.

We can sit here and pick apart the team, or we can just acknowledge they overperformed this season. Sure, it's a bummer they lost and yeah I want a Superbowl as bad as the next fan, but there's not enough talent to make that happen this season.

Pretty much all that needs to be said about this season. Sure it sucks that they lost but NO ONE thought the Eagles would sniff the playoffs much less the Superbowl. Anyone that says they would/could win it all this year is either flat out lying or a complete farging idiot.

This team did more than anyone could have hoped given the extreme lack of talent on the Defense. And given how the season started off - with their zesty defense that everyone knew was bad from the start - why anyone is crying about them getting bumped from the playoffs is mindboggling. I guess it helps that I'm not a fan of Philly sports in general, just the Eagles, but some of you guys need to get a farging grip.

luckily it was a very small group a few hundred people but they were at the eagles tunnel after the game last night cheering the team as they came off the field....it made me sick....you were favored at home in the playoffs

I'm 100% in agreement with this and it's why it pisses me off. This with the fact that whenever another team has never won, or can't do this or that, or stats point to them losing, when they play Philly, they win. I knew this was going to farging happen. They should have won. No reason they couldn't have. farging cursed farging team.

Then enjoy being miserable I guess. They didn't win because the defense is not good enough. It's the exact thing that people have been saying ALL YEAR about this team and now you guys are shocked, surprised and angry that they lost because the defense couldn't stop the Saints when it mattered? Eh, whatever...

Only one team is going to win it every year and if anyone was delusional enough to think that this team, this year, was going to be the one to win it then I have nothing to say to you but, "suck it up, buttercup". They lost, get over it.

its wasnt the defense...well it was on the last drive but it never should have come to that....because overall the offense was the bigger problem...one of the reasons new orleans was able to run the ball like they did is because the eagle offense allowed them too...the defense gave up 6 pts in the first half...if the offense puts up 17 like they should have the saints come out throwin and playing catch up

i mean the eagles couldnt even throw for 200 yards...thats pathetic in todays league and is like not throwing for 100 yards 15 years ago

24 pts allowed to drew brees isnt terrible....jimmy graham was basically taken out of the game and they forced two turnovers...not sure how much more you want from them

but the offense passed for under 200 and rushed for 80....thats unacceptable

Offense left the field with the lead and less than 5 minutes left in the game...but yeah, it was the offense's fault because they let the Saints run all the time off the clock and kick a chip shot field goal. Yep, that makes perfect sense. Anyway, have a good Sunday, this is a pointless conversation at this point.

Foles made some bad decisions, the offensive line didn't block great, Cooper dropped an easy pass, Henery missed a kick everyone knew he was going to miss and couldn't get his kickoffs in the endzone, the kickoff team totally forgot what they were doing on their last kickoff, the defense couldn't stop the run when they knew it was coming, and Chip called some dumb plays sometimes.

There's plenty of blame to go around.

honestly you can say they lost as a team...no one player or part of the team you can blame it in

in a perfect world youd like to score more than 24 points at home in a playoff game....and youd like to hold a lead with 5 minutes to go at home in a playoff game....and not give up a back breaking kick return and stupid penalty

they lost its over move on

I was looking at that yesterday and it seems like the dude who took the loogie, who is a college football player, was in it for the publicity.

I was looking at his timeline and he was pimping that video to every news outlet.

Maybe someone will Dennis Byrd his ass

diddy was on WIP earlier and echoed a few others this week who said that Jackson wasn't shut down in the 1st half like NBC was suggesting.  i said the same thing because I was there and was watching him, but he beat his coverage a few times and either Foles wasn't looking or took too long to make his decision.  shame because people of course jumped all over that when desean said what he said monday.

There was a moment on the broadcast where you could see him running free with his arm up and obviously didn't get the ball.

Foles also missed Celek wide open down the seam too

i think you are talking about the first off. series of the game.....foles roled out and celek broke wide farging open...it wasnt really straight up the seam more a soft fade towards the sideline but either way he was completely naked and foles totally missed him and threw a one yard pass to avant instead...i was beside myself for like the next two series

foles specifically and the offense in general just werent very good in the first half....and thats where the game was lost

fortunately these kinds of things can be corrected....his physical tools are what they are but in theory he should improve his reading of the plays and decision making

Yeah that might've been it. I just remember them mentioning it and then on reply there's Brent The Hipster wide open.

I believe that Foles has shown enough of a foundation that he can build on.

This post makes me laugh. I don't know how you can reconcile feeling like this team could have gone to the super bowl with the idea that 5-11 and 11-5 are equally likely next year.

because the playoffs one year in the nfl dont have a lot to do with the regular season in the next year

each year is completely different in the era of parity....id say every year about half the league has an equal chance to win 6 or 10 games

also thats my feeling on the eagles right now....lets wait for the offseason to see what they and the division do in march april and may
