If he can't have Favre as his QB leading the team to the Superbowl, he can get the next best thing in Bledsoe.

It is 1997, isn't it?

Pretty much, PG. And BDG was saying the Eagles should re-sign him now because it will be cheaper than paying him his bonus. Which is beyond stupid. And of course how the Eagles FO is arrogant and wants to stick it to the fans and how Bledose is such a great field general.

Pretty comical. Got good laughs out of me.

So glad I don't listen...and pretty funny that I called it re: Parcells.

Yeah, he had Keyshawn in control when he was going off on him on the sidelines.  ::) And Keyshawn is like mini-TO.

Schefter said last night that TO is pretty much out of options.  Miami and Denver are not interested.  KC will only offer him a minimal one-year deal.  So, the Cowboys are the only team out there willing to give him anything at all, which means they hold all the cards.  He even mentioned the possibility of a "minimum" contract structured to add a substantial roster bonus each week of the season, so he'd literally have to stay in line or face immediate dismissal without pay.

QuoteDENIALS OF T.O. SIGNING ARE BOGUS?

Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com reports that receiver Terrell Owens indeed has a deal in place with the Dallas Cowboys, even as agent Drew Rosenhaus denies that any arrangement with the Cowboys is in place.

Glazer reports that it's a three-year deal.  If so, that tells us that T.O. didn't get a signing bonus in excess of $15 million.  Otherwise, the contract undoubtedly would have had a longer term, if for no reason other than to reduce the cap charge in 2006.

The broader questions are these.  First, if no deal is in place, why are there multiple reports to the contrary?  Second, if a contract has been reached, why wouldn't the Cowboys announce it now -- and why would Rosenhaus deny its existence?

Here's our interpretation.

There is a deal in place, and Rosenhaus is saying that there isn't because he agreed to allow the Cowboys to announce the deal on Monday. So when asked about reports of a deal, what else can he say?

But why would the Cowboys wait until Monday to announce the deal?  On the surface, the answer is easy -- owner Jerry Jones is on vacation and he wants to be the one who gets in front of the media and crows about the team's biggest free agent signing in a decade (see Deion Sanders).

And let's take this a level deeper.  Owens was released on Tuesday.  Could it be that the Cowboys and Rosenhaus worked out the contract before Tuesday -- and that both sides thereafter decided to defer announcing it for a week after the official termination of his contract?

Owens had permission to seek a trade before his release, which would have included working out a contract with a new team and then working out compensation with the Eagles.  But Owens didn't have permission to strike a deal with a new team and then sit back and wait to be released.

If that happened, it would explain the information that we caught wind of on Tuesday night regarding Owens' supposed plan to wait as long as it takes for the deal that he wants.  It's possible that this was all part of the ruse and that, in reality, he didn't have to wait at all, because the deal with the Cowboys already was in the bag.

Here's one thing of which we're relatively certain.  The Eagles are paying close attention to this one, and there will be plenty of discussions among the upper reaches of the organization regarding whether to pursue tampering charges against the Cowboys.

As Glazer reported in November, the Eagles already have asked the NFL once to punish Jones for comments he made regarding a possible interest in Owens.  If there's any fire (and there's already smoke) regarding the possibility that Owens had a deal in place with Dallas before Tuesday, we expect the Eagles to be knocking on the Commish's door again

They probably did tamper. Like Florio says..where there's smoke there is usually fire.

But proving tampering is a damn hard thing to do and every team does it. Hell, the taterskins openly tampered with Lawyer Milloy when NE cut him a few years ago. Milloy's agent was quoted as saying they spoke to WASH before Milloy was cut. But nothing ever came of it.

But if there is anyway to prove it or make a fuss about it to the Commish...I'm down. Be vindictive. It's the Cowboys and TO afterall...

MadMarchHare

What would be the fine for tampering?  Lose a draft pick, nullify the contract?
Anyone but Reid.

PhillyPhreak54

Most likely loss of a draft pick. Not sure if the Eagles would get the pick or the of Boys would just lose it ala Denver losing a #3 a couple of years ago for fargin with the salary cap.

dis12

this would just give us all more reason to HATE the Cowboys.
I'd bring back Andre Waters for the 2 pilly vs. dallas games..maybe Tim Hauck (didn't he take out Irvin?)

Whatever.  I might rather TO go to an AFC team, but him going to the Cowboys is not all bad.  It proves that they are extremely desperate to try anything at all to get back to the playoffs, but their OL has been declining for years and Bledsoe is their only viable option at QB (and he did not finish the season strong last year).  It has the added bonus of definitely blowing up in their faces within a couple of years, one way or another.

The only problem is covering him with no big, physical corner on the roster.

I don't know if this was posted here, but I posted this on another site earlier in the week; from Clark Judge of Sportsline.com:

That doesn't mean Owens is headed there, but the Cowboys were one of three clubs that spoke to the Eagles prior to Owens' release -- inquiring into a possible deal for him. When the Eagles told them they were interested in a third-round pick, the talks stopped.

QuoteJerry has money, but T.O. isn't worth a penny
By RANDY GALLOWAY
Star-Telegram Staff Writer

Watch yourself, Mr. Jones. It may not be too late for a recall election in Arlington.

I don't seem to remember Terrell Owens being mentioned in any of that campaign literature 18 months ago.

All those tax dollar millions that voters approved for the new Jerry Yard, and with seemingly half of north Arlington now being bulldozed in the land-clearing, yet ...

The Cowboys are currently being outspent in NFL free agency by the Arizona Cardinals. And, yes, the homeless New Orleans Saints.

The Irving owner sits on his wallet, while Danny Snyder in Washington repeatedly empties his hip pocket, then fills up again at the ATM machine.

Snyder is trying to win now. Even Bill Bidwill, the Phoenix tightwad, is making an effort.

As you know, the new free agency period has opened with a man-rush.

Teams are flush with salary cap space and with cash to spend. Money and players are moving like crazy.

Jones, however, appears timid and thrifty. Jerry's football guru, Big Bill, appears to be on vacation.

Since Jerry has never been one to squeeze the dime, there's a tendency to give him the benefit of the doubt on his current lack of financial involvement.

But what's the football excuse for both the owner and Bill Parcells?

Consider the roster moves thus far:

Gone are Keyshawn Johnson, Dan Campbell, La'Roi Glover and Scott Fujita. All were, at one time or another, key contributors.

Added in free agency thus far have been an offensive lineman the Detroit Lions figured as a career backup, and a linebacker from Jacksonville that the Jaguars head coach thought spent too much time on outside activities, such as charity work and his male-modeling career.

That's great, fellows. Really great.

But now, rampant speculation tells us the Cowboys are getting ready to pop the "big one."

Their free agency splash could be none other than the trashy Terrell Owens.

If this does happen, don't blame Jerry. He can't help himself when it comes to these kinds of traps.

Owens will be Parcells' poodle. If Big Bill says no on this kind of player, then it won't happen.

And if Parcells says yes, that tells us just how desperate he really is.

There's no need to rehash the ramifications of having Owens on your team.

Yes, he's the best receiver in the league. Yes, he's the worst team-guy in the league.

But while trading out Owens for Keyshawn is a football upgrade at one position, it's not worth all the soap opera it brings.

The Cowboys don't need Terrell Owens.

The Cowboys need offensive linemen. At least two of them who can play right now, and well enough to protect the quarterback, who needs plenty of protection.

Just a thought. Maybe if a rebuilt offensive line could open holes for the running game, then that would also help the quarterback.

Maybe you've heard, the Cowboys also need a kicker. And no, not some Howdy Doody who works for minimum wage. Go pay for a big-time toe.

With Big Bill's 1940s offensive philosophy, a kicker is almost as important as the quarterback.

Speaking of offensive philosophy, is Parcells the dummy if he approves Owens, or is Owens the dummy if he wants to play here?

Terrell demands to have the ball thrown to him. Otherwise, he whispers that his quarterback is either gay or an Uncle Tom. That happened with his last two QBs.

Who knows what Owens would have in mind for Drew Bledsoe?

But if Bledsoe doesn't have the protection, the ball won't be going Owens' way.

And since Parcells loves for the ball to be handed off to a running back, Owens should be real pleased about being reduced to a blocking receiver.

But, of course, the Cowboys have to do "something." And speculation now centers on Terrell Owens being that something.

Even if Owens come to his senses, and signs elsewhere, it still doesn't get the Cowboys off the free agency hook.

The same theory also applies to Owens ending up here.

No matter the outcome, what needed to be done hasn't been done.

Jerry, I don't believe this is what the Arlington voters had in mind.

On TO's board, he made a reference to "SEE U AT THE LINC!" last week.  His Ask TO section is suddenly gone...  :sly

Mad-Lad

whether he's officially signed or not, i still have a feeling he'll wind up in Dallas.  I thought the Skins were a possibility, but after signing 3 receivers they'd have no reason to.

they're going to make commercials of him standing on the star in dallas gear.  just wait.

mussa

i just hope he gets signed by the worst of the worst teams out there.  he's all about money, he doesn't want to win shtein.  fargin low class piece of shtein.
