he gave up 7 runs before the last appearances

how exactly is this is the jc romero that got cut from the sox? no its not steroids romero who was dominant in 07 and 08 but its still an effective lefty out the pen.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

ice grillin you

he has more walks than k's on the year

as eaglez said that a recipe for disaster and disaster is what you are getting from him....even when he was "good" he wasnt good

he has the fourth worst whip in the majors for anyone with 40 plus appearances (btw i think baez is second worst)
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

im the board pharmacist....always one step above yous

oh maybe it's the high whip he's sporting right now. which funny enough is at it's highest since the sox let him go.

phillies will be under 500 this year...book it

also, i am fairly certain that romero has been bailed out by other releivers on multiple occasions which is helping his era.

hes always had a poor whip, i believe

didnt he always work deep counts, walk a guy, give up a bleeder, then finagle his way out of the inning somehow?

this year appears to little bit worse than most, but in the least hes still a guy who can get left handed batters out....once he fixes whatever the farg is wrong with him.

1.7 whip isnt poor its embarrassing

hes never had microscopic whips but where he is now is the reason he was released from boston to begin with

the problem now is that he avgs more bb/9 than k/9...you cant live like that...even in the past when he didnt have the best control he could get out of it by strking guys out...something he isnt doing this year

romero sucking really hurts too because they are paper thin in the pen when it comes to lefties so him sucking is a killer

well the two dominating years that were brought up - 1/2 of "07 w/the phils & '08 he sported two of his best whip's.

pure coincedence i'm sure.

look at his r/l splits:

vs. lh- 8 bb, 14 k, .185 avg, .313 obp, .572 ops
vs. rh- 15 bb, 4 k, .250 avg, .491 obp, .935 ops

what i get from that is obviously his control isn't great against anybody, but lefties arent hitting him up much. some of these numbers may be inflated by his recent string, but you get the picture.

if he fixes himself, he cant get lefties out. thats really what they need.

right handers...no. charlie cant play that game. if jc is coming in he better be facing a lefty.

so then you do agree there is a big issue if he doesn't get his shtein straightened out ?

The problem with this is that I don't think the Phils gave him an extension just for him to be a "specialist" and face left handed hitters.  He was going to be an extra set up man to go along with Madson, not come in to face a lh bat or 2.

They miss Scott Eyre

Yeah, he was the most consistant arm in the pen last year from start to finish, and was outstanding in the playoffs.  He said that he'll come out of retirement this year if they want him back.  I'm not really sure what the hell they're waiting for.

MDS

it doesnt matter what they are paying jc for. hes here for 3 more months. he cant get right handed hitters out. he should be able to succeed against left handers, though. so you play to that and work around it. what else can you do?

and @ eyre he hasnt thrown in about a year and would need 3 weeks to a month to get ready. do they have anything to lose by signing him and letting him fool around in the minors, seeing if he still has decent stuff? no. but is it a viable solution to any kind of bullpen problem? no. no it is not.
