its not different.  hed be fine but he is a steaky dude and unfortunately he often gets on a cold streak when hes the closer.

who cares he gave up a run in four run game.  Lidge did that everytime he came out in that situation in 08.

Sgt PSN

still a long ways to go but baez and contreras both look to be good additions to the pen.

For some reason Madson seems to psyche himself out when asked to close a game.

maybe put lidge down and give him the job for good

i really haven't seen madson ever look comfy as the closer, even in games where he saves it without giving up any runs.  if lidge doesn't return or sucks when he comes back, then they either need to trade for a closer (soria in kc would be #1 on my list) and if that can't happen, then i'd rather see baez in the 9th.

im just saying they say the closer position is like 90% mental and 10% stuff....maybe if he knows hes the man and not a fill in his mindset would change

and i cant believe youd be pushing for a guy that plays in kansas for the job

doesn't matter where he plays.  dude can pitch.

madson isn't a closer. You need to be a special breed of crazy to be a closer and Madson doesn't have 'it'.

i think the real difference between holding it down in the 8th and closing in the 9th is that when you're pitching in the 8th, you know that if you blow it, the offense still gets another ab.  but if you're closing in the 9th, especially on the road, then you could give up the game ending run.

you hear this all the time but it never made sense to me because if you give up a run in the 8th then the other teams closer can finish the game in the 9th when theoretically its easier to pitch and they will win the game

to me the above baseball cliche would hold more truth in the seventh...when youd say to yourself i can give up a run because i know the opposing pitcher isnt going to bear down in the 8th because he knows theres still the 9th to be played

yeah, i don't really agree with it but that seems to be the common thought among most people.  to me, pitching is pitching.  i can certainly understand there being different mentalities between starters and any type of reliever, but i don't really buy into different mentalities for different bullpen roles.  if you're in the pen, just be ready to come in and pitch at any time and any situation unless the pitching coach or manager tells you before the game starts that they won't be using you that day.

but baseball players are hoydas, pitchers are even bigger hoydas, relievers are the biggest hoydas and specialist relievers are the biggerest hoydas of them all.
