QuoteGun goes off in topless bar; man critical
By DAVID GAMBACORTA

The mood at Cheerleaders Gentleman's Club abruptly changed from amorous fun to unexpected horror last night.

Police were called to the topless bar - a sports-theme establishment nestled in a quiet South Philly shopping center - about 9:30 p.m. A patron had accidentally shot himself in the head, splattering a bare-chested dancer with his blood.

Investigators said it appeared that the unidentified middle-aged man was somehow carrying his firearm improperly, which might have caused it to discharge while he was sitting inside the topless bar.

The victim was taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in critical condition. Police said no one else had been wounded at the bar, on Front Street near Oregon Avenue, next to an on-ramp for Interstate 95 North.

Dad nothin'...I have a bitching headache today.
I believe I've passed the age of consciousness and righteous rage
I found that just surviving was a noble fight.
I once believed in causes too,
I had my pointless point of view,
And life went on no matter who was wrong or right.

guns are bad, mmmkay... :-\

They have a filter system so that you can see people who were murdered by age, race, etc, etc.

If you go to the race filter and select "white" and then scroll over the red dots you will see that a good majority of the names on there are hispanic.  But I guess they don't rate their own ethnic category anymore.

Also, if you filter by weapons and select "unknown" and then go to the red dot in overbrook you will see that a 29 yr old woman was killed by a pillow.  Seriously, what kind of person can't struggle enough to get their head out from under a pillow?

Slideshow: Female Teachers In Sex Cases

Authorities accused a North Hunterdon-Regional High School teacher of sexually assaulting a female student at a Catholic school where she used to coach.

Before going to North Hunterdon-Regional High School, 39-year-old Pamela Balogh, of Bethlehem, Pa., was a basketball coach at Somerville's Immaculata High School, where she coached the team to a string of basketball championships.

Balogh was also a star woman's basketball player at Temple University and is the school's all-time leading scorer. She is also in the school's Hall Of Fame.

Her 17-year-old accuser was a member of the team and said Balough assaulted her in the coach's office at Immaculata from December 2004 until the coach left in 2005.

Balogh coaches field hockey at North Hunterdon.

That will do much to erase the stereotype of female basketball players being lesbians.

Waterfront proposals garner both casino licenses
By Jeff Shields and Angela Couloumbis

The board's votes came just before 11:30 a.m. in a packed conference hall. The audience included Mayor Street.

Foxwoods Casino Philadelphia, a $560 million project in South Philadelphia will be built on a 30-acre parcel off Columbus Boulevard, north of Home Depot and Target.

Developers say that by November 2008, they will have installed 3,000 slot machines, restaurants, shops, and a 2,000-seat entertainment complex. Investors include Quincy Jones, Comcast-Spectacor chairman Ed Snider, and 76ers president Billy King.

Sugarhouse Casino, a $550 million project on 22.6 acres on North Delaware Avenue at Shackamaxon Street. Plans call for 3,000 slot machines, restaurants, a plaza, and a pedestrian promenade. It would employ 1.090 people.

The move puts casinos on the northern and southern ends of the city's central waterfront.

Tad Decker, the board chairman, prior to the vote addressed the complaint that there hadn't been enough public input by pointedly stressing the number of public hearings held around the state.

"No jurisdiction in recent history...has moved so quickly and so efficiently," he said.

Although members voted in public vote to award licenses in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and other locations, any discussions and deliberations leading up were held in private.

In those closed sessions, the board engaged in "quasi-judicial" discussions that "fully and frankly" reviewed each applicant, Decker said.

Talks involved privileged financial information about the applicants and confidential background information about the people running the companies.

The state's open-meetings law and the state law that legalized gambling exempted most of this information from public disclosure.

Although gambling experts say Pennsylvania's approach to awarding licenses is not unique - other states have followed similar guidelines - the process angered anti-casino groups, which say the board has shut them out and shunned them from the beginning.

Many in those groups say that there are still concerns and many questions about the casinos' impact on neighborhoods, and that the board is rushing licenses through so the first casinos can be running next year.

The losers in Philadelphia were TrumpStreet, Riverwalk Casino, and Pinnacle.

Pittsburgh's casino deal pretty much kills off the Penguins' chances of staying in town.

This whole process of banning gambling, and then only allowing gambling in casinos that heavily bribe the state and its politicians SICKENS me. Pigs feeding at the farging trough.
