He is pretty awsome.
I thought Abreu was awesome.
You are all wrong. Lieber*cough*thal has been the most awesome.....actually, he has been heating up.
I'm just prepared to have my heart tore out yet again as they sweep Braves only go to Florida and get swept....
I love that Rollins is on a 19 game hitting streak and still hasn't been able to get is OBP above .320. What a douche.
19-game hitting streaks aren't all they're cracked up to be when a guy routinely goes 1-5 to keep the streak alive.
Rollins is as undisciplined as they come at the plate. Apparently, there's no changing that. If a guy like Tony Gwynn can't get him to see the light, I doubt the hacks the Phillies hired as hitting instructors would do any better.

He's been on a tear since wednesday. Before that, his hitting streak was nothing to brag about.
He sucks. What a waste of talent.
Yea, we should start Tomas Perez over him.
No, you should toss 7 or 8 hand grenades into the dugout between innings, plow under the stadium and rid the city of baseball forever.

I was actually talking about this with a few friends the other day and trying to point out that hitting streaks can be overrated. Going off the average of a player getting 4 ab's per game, technically a guy could have a 1620 game hitting streak over the course of 10 years and have a batting average of .250. But I'd bet MDS' virginity that that guy would make it to the HOF.
Yea I figured the jokes on that would start coming in eventually.

The Phils scored more points vs. Atlanta than the Eagles did. Who'd of thought that? :P
Still...won't....believe..... :-X
Sillies are 5 games out of Atlanta and tied for the WC lead with Florida.
A win tommorrow and the Sils could survive having 2/3 taken from them by the Marlins (quite possible). HowEVA, they go to Atlanta after that, and its a tall order to beat them again after kicking their asses up here.
We shall see. I have faith. Why the hell not.
No Hudson or Thomson next week though... :)
It's entirely plausible that after tomorrow the Phillies could have done the inconceivable and cut the Braves divisional lead in half from eight games to four games in only four days.
That's reminiscent of 1964 right there if you ask me.
:-\
PS: I know it won't happen but it would be really cool if it did.
They get 3 home games vs Colorado. We won't catch them... :P
Phillies would need to sweep the Braves in Atlanta to have a shot at the division. Despite playing the Marlins 6 times, they get 6 with the Mets/Rockies. Probably 5-1 or 4-2 right there. Marlins I would guess 3-3. Not counting the Phillies series (and assuming we win tommorrow), thats 89 wins. Even taking 2/3 in Atlanta won't be enough unless they totally collapse. It's a long shot, but aside from Smoltz, we get their zesty pitchers down in Atlanta.
Let's not look ahead: there's still a game vs. the Braves to play tonight.
If the Phillies win out and the Braves lose six games, the Phillies win the division.
Like I said, it could happen. It won't but it would be really cool if it did.
;)
Actually, if the Phils win again tonight, they'll be 4 games behind the Braves. If they then go down to Atl and sweep the Braves, that's down to 1 game...
I just hope they get the game in....its supposed to be nasty weather here today.
QuoteBill Conlin | A bounce in their step
PHILLIES COULD HAVE QUIT, BUT THEY DIDN'T
I WAS A rookie beat writer in 1966 and was slow to learn the many ways to light manager Gene Mauch's short fuse.
I discovered one night in late September of that disappointing Phillies season the Little General didn't particularly care for the word "quit.'' Gene liked it even less if "quit'' was a modifier placed next to the team managed by him.
The Phillies were in fourth place on Sept. 19. They trailed the Dodgers by eight games in the one-division, 10-team National League of that era. Larry Jackson had shut out Claude Osteen in the first game of the four-game series in Dodger Stadium, so a Jim Bunning victory over Don Drysdale in Game 2 would trim the lead to seven games. Mauch's ace pitched badly and lost, 6-1. In the third game of the series, they sleepwalked to an 11-1 loss to the great Sandy Koufax. It was the 25th victory of
Koufax's final season.
The loss left the Phillies 10 back - game, set, match and season for a team that was on the cover of the Sports Illustrated baseball issue. After the lame
effort I asked Mauch in a sepulchral clubhouse if his team had quit.
I got the full, 1-minute delay Mauch reserved for his most
considered pronouncements. The words finally came out like
a slow-motion splatter of caustic lye.
"This team doesn't know the meaning of the word quit,'' No. 4 hissed. "I don't know how to say it and you don't know how to write it.''
This year's Phillies could have quit after beginning the destiny segment of the schedule by
getting swept at home by the
Astros. They lost the wild-card lead and more than that. Whatever fan credibility they had built during a hanging-in-there August was swept away by a fresh wave of fan derision.
Comrade Rich Hofmann, who believes in this team a lot more than I do, pointed out on Comcast SportsNet's "Daily News Live'' Tuesday how each time the club seemed to have shot off a hand, a foot or bit off a tongue, it shook itself, picked up the
machete and lurched back into the wild-card race like some kind of baseball Jason.
Paul Owens used to call this trait "Bounceability.''
In its simplest definition, bounceability is the knack of walking into a steaming mound of horse manure and emerging from the other side aboard Smarty Jones.
It is the ability the legendary Phils general manager had of
being helped to his hotel room shortly before sunrise in a knee-walking state and showing up in the hotel lobby 2 hours later, ready for another 18-hour day. He would be fresh-shaved and scrubbed, dressed to the nines, eyes clear, quick of smile and nimble of step.
Many hours later, when his
predawn accomplices would start showing up, heads-splitting, red-eyed, foul-breathed and amnesic, somebody would blurt: "Pope, how the hell do you do it on 2 hours sleep?''
"Bounceability,'' he would say. "I've always had a great deal of bounceability.''
So here they are, a game away from a four-game sweep of a Braves team that hardly looks like some impregnable baseball fortress. Since the most recent stumble that left them ready for wild-card Skid Row, the Phillies are astride a four-game winning streak and have won five of six from the Marlins and Braves.
And a grieving Roger Clemens won one for his mom last night, dragging the Marlins back into a tie for the WC lead with the Phillies. Which means that even with a loss tonight, the Phillies can leave Miami on Sunday night leading the Miss Lower Slobbovia Division.
I was going to use this paragraph to hammer Cholly Manuel for sitting Ryan Howard against a lefthander named Horacio Ramirez, who is not Randy Johnson. With all the Howard talk the ESPN national TV crew of Chris Berman and Jeff Brantley did with the first baseman riding the pines, imagine how much exposure the Phils' rookie of the year candidate would have had if Manuel had run him out there. Imagine...
With the bases loaded in the third inning, Howard's caddie, Ramon Martinez, dug in against the scuffling Ramirez.
While the extra man who came from Detroit with Ugueth Urbina in the Placido Polanco deal ran out his grand slam homer, Manuel was observed walking resolutely into a steaming mound of horse manure.
Cholly emerged on the other side riding Afleet Alex. The skipper and Ramon rode into the sunset together. Giant flashes of lightning shorted out the light towers.
Bounceability, Paul Owens called it...
Maybe this team doesn't know the meaning of the word "quit'' either.
Conln on the Phils
Conlin is disgusting when he's being positive.
:puke
QuoteMaybe this team doesn't know the meaning of the word "quit'' either.
I don't think this team knows the meaning of the word "quit" but I'm not sold on whether or not they know the meaning of the word "WIN" either. There's a difference between quitting and losing. The Phils have always been losers.
I'm still not convinced or back on the bandwagon.
Jorge Sosa pitches tonight for them. He's another Mazzone Miracle. He's 11-3 with a 2.55ERA.
But Ryan Howard and Jimmy Rollins will have big games and the broom comes out.
Isn't it funny how that couldn't hold the Wild Card lead, but now that they are trailing they play at their usual "we'll just keep pace" level. They suck.
Just when I think I'm out, they pull me back in.
:'(
You'll regret jumping back on the bandwagon after they lose tonight, if they get the game in.

Also a good thing the Phillies didn't re-sign Eric Milton:
QuoteThe 50-50 Club
Only one pitcher in history has ever served up 50 home runs in one season. That was Bert Blyleven, who did it nearly two decades ago (in 1986) -- and has never looked at gophers the same since.
But this year, our man Bert might be getting company. Heading into the final three weeks of the season, Reds pitcher Eric Milton had given up exactly as many homers (39) as Blyleven did at the same stage of his historic 50-bomb summer.
Granted, he since has fallen behind -- by allowing just one homer Tuesday, on the 19th anniversary of Blyleven's serving up a five-spot. But that doesn't mean Milton doesn't have all the credentials needed to reach the hallowed half-century mark, too.
He warmed up by allowing 43 gopher balls last year. And this year, he has cranked out one four-homer game, four three-homer games and more two-homer games (six) than no-homer games (five). So a few more like those, and 50 here he comes.
But wait. There's more.
Milton also has given up 53 doubles this year. Which means that if he can get to 50 homers, he'd be the first 50-50 man in pitching history.
And through his first 31 starts, he'd already allowed 98 extra-base hits. Which means he could easily blow by Jose Lima (108 in 2000) for the most extra-base hits doled out by any National League pitcher in the last quarter-century.
And now that he's arrived at 40 homers, he has joined Robin Roberts (three times), Blyleven (two) and Phil Niekro (two) as the only multi-season 40-bomb offenders of all time.
So we don't know if Doris Kearns Goodwin cares about this man's historic season. For that matter, we don't even know if Bert Blyleven cares. But the rest of us will be hanging on every pitch.
Phillies have chances to score in first and second, then Lawrence Jones hits a long HR in the 3rd.....3-0 Bravos.
Myers should've been out of that inning before Larry hit the 3R HR. He threw a 2-2 curveball to Giles that was a fargin strike and it was called a ball.
Too many LOB's tonight, boys. Way too fargin many. Better start the scoring machine.
David Bell got a hit off of a RHP....shocked! :o
Todd Pratt is the master of bad swings.
Jeez, Pratt. Do you swing with your eyes closed? Fargin horrible.
He was these god awful at bats, but when all is said and done, he hits .250. I have no clue how.
They are getting Sosa's pitch count up, he will probably be done by the 6th. And the Braves bullpen stinks.
There goes Abreu with another non-clutch home run.
He sucks.
Phils are going to win.
Get yer brooms out, bitches.
Myers continues to not pitch like the ace he wants to be.
Looks like I might be safe from having to jump back on the bandwagon after all. They be losing.

i beg to differ when you put this game in the proper context.
a win puts them on top of the wild card race. i said it before, when this team needs a win...they com up small.
you put them on a 3 or 4 game losing streak and everyone forgets about them, they play great. as soon as there is any spotlight, or pressure on this team to win...they fold.
i turned on 610 this morning, and keith jones said something like "the only way they can get into the wildcared is if they are 2 games out in the final 4 days and everyone has written them off."
it's amazing, they also said, in crowds at home under 30,000(?) they are 14-3 this year. in the 10 sellouts, 3-7.

My point is that MURP's attempt to dispel the theory that the Phillies choke when the home crowd is large by claiming it's simply that their opposition has been better in those games is not true. They are 1-3 vs. Willis:
L 4/13: Complete game shutout
L 4/30: 5 IP, 0 ER (Complete game; rain-shortened)
L 5/23: 8 IP, 2 ER
W 7/17: 5.2 IP, 8 ER (this was during Willis' brief slump after the All-Star Break)

Wow, you guys were right.
Rollins sucks.
Rollins is my favorite player, but I think that he's more ideally suited for the #2 slot. He's really cut down on his strikeouts (66 this season compared to 113 in 2003), so he has improved. However, he still doesn't take enough walks (just 39 this season) to get his OBP high enough to be a truly effective leadoff hitter. He puts the ball in play, and I think that he's more suited for the second slot in the order than the leadoff slot.
I just don't know why Manuel doesn't switch Lofton and Rollins. Lofton gets on base at a .385 clip, as opposed to Rollins' .324. I think that it would make the Phils offense much more consistent. Lofton on base opens up that hole in the right side of the infield, which will help Rollins immensely when batting left-handed.
Then again, he's paid $$$ to make those decisions, and I'm paid
$$$ to teach middle schoolers. :deion :-D
Intersting Jimmy Rollins stats I nerdily tabulated:
1. Rolliins is hitting .426 against the Marlins this season, and .260 against everyone else. He is hitting .279 overall for the year. He just destroys the Marlins.
2. He is actually hitting .312 againt the NL East this year, and .252 against everyone else. Make that he kills the NL East (except the Nats).
3. The reason Jimmy stats aren't on par with last year was because of that horrid August, where he hit .188. He was right around his average in the other months, and over .300 in June and July. In just this last week, he is hitting .517.
Against Willis, obviously, nobody hits him that well. Especially not Dave Bell (sounds much cool, eh?). He is 1-18 (.056) career against Willis. I would go with this lineup:
Rollins
Michaels
Abreu
Burrell
Utley
Martinez- 1B
Loserthal
Slomas- 3B
El Loco
Endy Chavez, off all people, is 3-10 against Willis. But, I can't suffer through 4 at bats from him. He stays on the bench.

Don't do it, man! Put the gun down!
Willis is batting 8th today... :-D
Us = JRoll/JMike/Abreu/Burrell/Utley/Bell/Lieberthal/Martinez/Padilla
Them = Castillo/Pierre/Cabrera/Delgado/Conine/Lo Duca/Lowell/Willis/Andino
id rather cut David Bell and have nobody at 3rd base than see his ugly outs anymore. yeah, an open hole at 3rd is better than Bell!!
Well the turf at Dolphins is awful. Maybe he'll tear his ACL.
'
No, instead, he just got his 20th error of the season.
farging icehole.
Thank goodness Cabrera is a moron and ran through the stop sign at 3rd Base.
Or Padilla would have an unearned run (courtesy of Bell) to deal with.

They are also playing one of the toughest pitchers in the league. But i think he gets his hit today. He had hits all game after the HR last night.
That 1 run might be enough for Dontrelle.
Andino doubles to deep CF (ground rule) w/ 2 outs after Dontrelle gave it a ride to deep CF.
Willis is a better hitter than David Bell. Seriously. I would prefer him at bat than Bell.
Willis at 80 pitches after 5. Doubt he gets the CG. Phillies work him right, they can get him out next inning.
They better get him outta there soon. Still 1-0 and Willis dealing in the t7th.
We'll see Todd Jones in the 9th for sure. He's ripe for a blown save.
Weve got Howard off the bench too....if we can a leadoff batter on, bring Chavez in to steal a base, some bidnis.
Good time for Rollins to get his hit. :yay

Losing losers.
Myers was fantastic August 31 against the Mets (Pedro game).
Since then, he's been fair to put it nicely. Pitched okay against Houston 3er in 7 innings, Dave Bell error to begin the game sure didn't help things. He was bad the next start against Florida, then mediocre in his next one against Atlanta (4r in 6ip). So, he has not been awful. Just not great. Or good.
Based on what he's done the entire year following consecutive bellow average outings, he is due for a gem. Let's hope the trend continues.

They aren't going to trade Howard.
Howard's pretty well sewn up rookie of the year at this point. I doubt even Ed Wade would be dumb enough to trade the reigning R_O_Y for prospects and a middle reliever.
Still funny though because the possibility, however remote, is still there.
:-D
I think you give Ed Wade too much credit. He might try to trade Thome at first, but the prospect of paying most of his salary and getting very little in return is something Wade won't be able to stomach.
Don't put anything awful and/or stupid past Ed Wade, PG. You should know that.
one thought out there is that if the Phillies pay half of Thome's salary (approx 7-8 million) it would be like paying 7-8 million towards Howard at the 1B position because Howard is probably making a minimal amount. maybe if the Phillies see it that way they will be able to trade Thome

Legendz....I'm still alive. Although when Howard crushed the tar out of that ball I almost crashed my truck when I was driving to work. What a shot!
When Howard was being hyped early on before he was brought up and even for the first month or so I wasn't sold on him. But goddammit....I'm sold on him now.
Even if they don't deal Howard...they still have to trade Thome. Just like in the NFL when they say "If you have two QBs, you have none". We can't have a 1B controversey. If Thome is still here they ain't paying him $16M to sit on the bench.
And Howard's trade value, which couldn't land them Kip Wells or Ted Lilly (thank GOD they turned that stuff down. Littlefield and Ricciardi saved Wade's ass on those), is sky high now.
Ed Wade scares me. If he deals Howard...there will be mutiny.

but what i think is the worse case scenario is if they don't trade either and we have to suffer watching Manuel's boy play everyday and watch the kid on the bench. if that's the way it's going to play out, i would rather them trade Howard, that way we aren't tortured with seeing Howard sit and rot.

Phreak, don't even think it. I know for a fact that even if Wade was thinking it, the "higher-ups" wouldn't ever allow it. They are banking on this kid to be the star for years to come and will be using that as a way to get ex-season ticket holders (like me) to buy back our seats.
Ha! Good point. Benching Howard and playing Thome, or working out some sort of "platoon" between two left-handed hitting first basemen... would be even funnier and more characteristic of one of the worst FO's in baseball history.
Thome at 1st, Howard in LF, Burrell at 3B (yeah right :P )
Burrell at 2nd, Utley in CF, Howard in LF

if the astros go 5-4 the rest of the way
the phillies need 7-2 to get the WC
Lieber's really poured it on in September. :yay
Aug. 27 (Yeah, I know, not September): 7.1 IP, 2ER, L (Phils shut out, 2-0)
Sept. 1: 7 IP, 1 ER, W
Sept. 6: 7 IP, 1 ER, ND (Team loses to Astros, 2-1)
Sept. 11: 7 IP, 1 ER, W
Sept. 16: 5 IP, 2 ER, W
Sept. 22: 8 IP, 0 ER, W
So Lieber, in September, is 4-0 with a 1.32 ERA.
Awsome win. Shanny Vics is the man.
Lets go Cubs!
4 games out of the division race. Go Marlins (after tonight).... :paranoid :sly
Also note: for not being able to beat our own division, we clinched the season series against both Atlanta and Florida....
if the astros go 5-4 the rest of the way

in other words seasons over....no chance phillies go 7-2...their pitching isnt good enough to sweep anyone
i suppose the astros could go 4-5 and the phils 6-3...but theres no way the phils can win 7
Lieber's really poured it on in September
kind of weird in that leiber did the exact same thing last sept...its what got him the huge free agent deal he did...in fact his whole season this year has gone exactly as last years for him
Houston will go 3-6 the rest of the season... :)
GO "Cinci-met-ionals"!
ill go with that...wouldnt even surprise me...as i said hell of lot more chance of the astros imploding than the phils sweeping someone

lemme repeat myself...
the phillies do not have the pitching to sweep ANYONE...and they dont have the clutch hitting to do it in the pressure situations they will face the rest of the way...im not saying they are going to crash and burn...im not even saying they wont win the wild card...but they will not win seven games
in fact i would all but guarantee they lose tomorrow in cincy...they have a knack for coming off a big series like atlanta with expectations that they will sweep the pathetic reds only to rip your heart out by losing the opener

yeah, it's been Bowa's fault ::)
it's not that they just aren't good enough, it's always someone else's fault
They didn't have Urbina, Utley, Howard, or Leiber the past 4 years. At least they didn't have them starting or playing the lion's share of the games.
This team might be different. Then again, it might not be.
The point is, it's September 22nd and the Phillies are still in the thick of the playoff chase. Instead of pissing and moaning about it, we should be cheering our guts out for them right now. Of course, we're Philadelphians so that's clearly not going to happen.
:puke
Next year's tentative schedule has the Phillies opening at home vs the Cardinals and Dodgers...
Great win today. I saw none of it, but was pleasantly surprised to see Lieber shutout the Braves and Victorino hit a bomb off of Hudson.
Mo,
I was against Bowa being fired (I liked him) and thought the players were whiney pusses for getting mad at him for his antics.
However, they're all saying it is better under Charlie and it looks to be that way. So to us it might not have been Bowa's fault, but to the players it was.
I don't care either way now - I want a playoff berth.
Phillies would be 162-0 with Jim Leyland. wow. sucks we missed that record. Ed Wade is rainbow bright.
For the 1000000th time
I don't understand how anyone could like Bowa. The players hated him, he made excuses for every loss and was an awful in game manager.
The players love Manuel, he sorta mumbles and says "I dont know" after a loss and he's probably a worse in game manager than Bowa.
Either way, its all Loserthals and Bells fault. They suck. Especially Bell.
Bell is the awesome. His energy and enthusiam for the game of baseball really shines through and provides the rest of the Phillies with the positive attitude to go out there and git er done.
You're right, Josh Parry. I'm gonna buy my Bell jersey right now.
and bring it to a tailgate so we can set it on fire. double nice!
I don't think such a thing exists. But I shall look.
But what I really want is a Mike Zordich jersey.
your gonna have to go custom made for Zordich and that means you start playing the lottery, cause god knows your not gettin a job!
Damnit, you're right.
Will you wear the Zordich Mullett when you get your own #36?
Save up your lunch money and call 1-877-NFL-SHOP and order one.
Or pimp yourself out to those Temple girls for money. I'm sure they'd dig the mullet.
What are the pitching match-ups this weeked? I know Crazy Vicente is going tonight for the Phils...do we get Eric Milton? I hope so.

Bowa has plenty to say about players' remarks
By Todd Zolecki
Inquirer Staff Writer
ATLANTA - One of the reasons the Phillies say they still are in the National League wild-card race is the more relaxed atmosphere in the clubhouse (i.e. no Larry Bowa).
Bowa is working for ESPN and XM Radio this season, but he talked Wednesday on WFAN-AM (660) in New York about recent comments by former players, specifically those made in this week's Sports Illustrated.
"There's a lot of sensitive players on that team, and a lot of them really did not like the fact that I had played in Philly, won a World Series in Philly," he told the radio station. "Let's face it, if you play in a city and you win a World Series there, you're going to be pretty popular there. The players for some reason didn't like that. I guess they said I made them play tight. I don't know.
"One thing a lot of those guys needed is someone to take the heat for them. If the want to blame me, that's fine."
He continued.
"If you mess up, I'm talking about making mental mistakes, our coaching staff that we had last year would bring it up," he said. "And I guess players don't want to hear that."
The Phillies won 86, 80, 86 and 86 games in Bowa's four seasons, but they never made the playoffs.
The Phillies are on pace to win 86 games this season but remain in the wild-card race, trailing the Houston Astros by only two games with nine to play.
"They have a good team," Bowa said. "They're good players. They have as good a chance as anybody. But to make quotes... it's basically saying the reason they didn't win last year was because of the manager and a couple coaches."
Bowa also said the process to hire manager Charlie Manuel wasn't legitimate.
"I knew when I was going to get fired, the Phillies can say what they want, they knew he was going to be the manager," Bowa said. "It was a slam dunk. The company line is that this was the most thorough search we've ever had. It was a smoke screen. Anybody knowledgeable in sports realized what was going on."
:-D
I just looked at the pitching match-ups....oh, boy. They're tossing garbage out there. The Phils better sweep these fargs.

And we'll hear the same people on WIP saying how they were on the wagon all year long that were blasting the team all season long.
I liked Fitzpatrick's little column in the Inky today. He ripped the fans for not supportng the team throughout this stretch.
I hate management and I dislike some of the players, but I'll wait to rip them until after the season is over. Other than Lieby and Bell and Wade, that is. But I still support the team and have done so all year long. I catch shtein for it at work from two guys who are Eskin lapdawgs. I copied Fitzpatricks article and put it on their desks for them to see.
I hope they make the playoffs just so I can rub it in their faces.
Well I think the Cards would rather play the Phillies then the Astros...so expect the Cards to play them tough those 2 games. Also, the Cubs hold a 7-5 lead in games against Houston right now....let's just hope that Cincy doesnt screw the Phils like they did last year....

I listended to WIP for the first time in awhile yesterday, and too many were calling up talking about how they didn't like the team and how the players were unrelatable and they just couldn't get behind them like the Eagles of recent years and the 01 Sixers.
Not to mention, cheapest tickets are 30 bucks. Do the Phillies think people are gonna be waiting in line for days for these things? Image problem......

The Phillies are going to start cutting payroll now that the Bank is no longer filled.

Phillies, Padres, Red Sox win coin tosses
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ESPN.com news services
NEW YORK -- The Philadelphia Phillies, San Diego Padres and Boston Red Sox all emerged winners Friday as Major League Baseball conducted coin tosses to determine sites for potential two-team tiebreakers.
Trailing the Atlanta Braves by four games in the NL East, the Phillies would host a one-game playoff should the teams be tied at the end of the regular season.
The Padres hold a five-game lead over the San Francisco Giants in the NL West. They would host the Giants should they tie.
After falling out of the AL East lead and behind the Cleveland Indians in the wild-card race, the Red Sox won a coin toss that would give them a home game against the Indians if the teams tie for the wild card.
Any one-game tiebreaker would be scheduled for Monday, Oct. 3.

Typical Phillies.
Does Cholly realize that we're in the middle of a pennant race, or is he just taking Fultz out after 1/3 and putting in Aquilino Lopez and Madson for fun??
I've said on here before I hate the Phillies. I hope they do implode.
WAR AQUILINO LOPEZ!
Aqua Lung got lucky that Valentin is an undisciplined farg. He couldn't throw a strike and Valentin struck out on a full count.
Only 8-6 but momentum is with the Double A team masquerading as a real major league team.

Well the manager idiocy eventually has to catch up and cost you games. He handles things correctly today, such as Fultz into the 7th. Then Geary. Then Urbina. Then a tired but no other options Wagner. We could win. But he doesnt. hes an idiot. What do you expect?
This is the first absolute must-win game for the Phillies and they blow it. The other games were important too, but this is the most important game of the year so far, and each game after this becomes increasingly more important.
Especially with the opportunity to gain ground on Houston, Atlanta both.
Right now they are responding like they usually do in pressure situations. Part of the reason why I hate this team and the franchise.

You are correct sir!
Cormier in this ones gonna get ugly
This wasnt a must win. 2 back with 8 to play is doable. But, the knowledge that they couldve been 1 back and the fact that they had a 6-1 lead over a second division team is certainly extreamly disappointing. they need to get within 1 game of houston by the end of this weekend. phils win the next two, houston splits, we can do it. this ones real tough to swallow (teehee) but the season is not over. yet.

farg you and your attempts to bring hope! I'll not have it! Lies I say! Lies! :(
im really pissed about this, too. but the fact is tommorrow they have a game and they still are in playoff contention. this one is tettering on being one of the worst losses in recent phils history. i dont see how a team can expect to make the playoffs and blow a 6-1 lead to the no good reds on the second to last weekend of the season. but, we thought they were done after the astros series. and things were lookin bad after the first braves game. this team keeps coming back, so maybe theyll win the next two and make this one iinteresting last week.
Hope is merely perspective.
Mathematically... no, this isn't a must-win. A must-win game literally is they have to win or they lose the wild card spot. If you look at things mathematically then there is no way you should say it's over if you are a Phillies fan. Pessimism is defense mechanism to prevent yourself from being let down. Nonetheless it's the most important game of the season and they are losing. That is all that matters right now. Tomorrow it no longer matters.

Like I said. Pessimism is merely a defense mechanism to prevent being let down. You guys didn't wanna get your hearts broken so you basically gave up.
You gotta hang with em better than that... cmon.
I'm not a Phils fan, but that was a nice play and I appreciate good plays.
I just ran around my room scraming like a girl.
Holy fargin shtein! Dave Bell! My god!
David Bell is so misunderstood. >:D
Meh.....they're still zesty. :paranoid
My son and his pal are in the other room playing NCAA 2006 and heard me freaking out in my office. Dumb kids just don't get it. My wife comes in and is trying to tell me something and I'm just nodding my head not knowing what the hell she said!
For all of my shtein talking, I've been sitting on ESPN's Gamecast for the last two hours, and typing on this board. ESPN's Gamecast is pretty good....anyone know where I can scheme some audio next time?
Slice em up Billy! :paranoid

MLB.com but it will cost you. I paid $19 for the whole season back in April. It'll probably cost you like $5 for the rest of the season. I love it. I can listen anywhere.

I thought I heard something about new BMW SUV or something like that ???
They'll still blow it. They suck.
I'll post Scott Graham's call soon if anyone wants it. He got pretty excited.
I hope Phreak didn't hang himself while Lopez was still pitching in the 7th. This is their third 9th/10th inning win in a row. Amazing.
David Bell.. who woulda thunk it?
I'm completely floored.
:crazy

Hah, yeah that was a pretty good call. I only know because I had to go out and get ice cream for my pregnant wife because the 5 flavors we already have aren't good enough.
It's too bad the Marlins couldn't hold on to beat the Braves..
I still like Harry's better. Classic.
David Bell Is God
Phillies Will Win The Wildcard
Eagles Smack Raiders
:-D
Boooo!
:crazy :crazy :crazy :crazy :crazy
Anyone have a defribillator I can borrow?
Jeez. What an awesome finish.
I almost did hang myself, Legendz. I was fargin steamin'. I left to go to work and listened to the rest of it on the radio.
So I'm sitting at a stoplight when David Bell hits the HR and I started going apeshtein. The elderly couple stopped next to me looked over, obviously scared and amused at the same time. I looked at Pops and said HELL YEAH, DAVID BELL BABY! and he drove away...ran the red light to get away from me.
I take back every bad thing I've said about Bell this year.
And I saw the highlights and that strike called on Bobby A was 100% pure garbage. Bobby rarely argues but I was glad to see some fire from him.
Totally fargin amazing.
Now they MUST win tomorrow. And let's all say a prayer that Eude Brito has 7 innings of great ball in him. Because other than Ugie and Billy Wags I have NO FAITH in the rest of those fargups in that bullpen.
Amazing, amazing, amazing.
Nice story Phreak. I did circles in my dorm room, huged by roomate who could care less about the game. He got mad that I almost made him spill his Red Bull.
I've never seen Bobby that mad. The call was absolute bullshtein, no doubt. Myers got thrown out in the dugout, then Cholls came out and obvious stuttered his way out the game. It's all good though.
Aaron Fultz. Awfully reliable I suppose. He's your 7th inning guy. And, jesus, Geary has to become option #4 out of the pen. Wagner has worked four days in a row, but hasn't thrown a lot of pitches in any of those outings. I would look to get him a day off tonight, but at this point, you can just say that Wagner has the day off. Brito might go 5, then you need an inning out of everyone. Hopefully we can just blow the Reds out and not have to worry about that.
But go Sillies. I am on such a high from that win, not much can bring me down. Except a loss tommorrow.
Indeed. We need a blowout tonight in our favor. Eric Milton is pitching so I would guess between him pitching and that ballpark everyone will hit a HR. Even Brito.
I hope Billy Wags can get a day to chill, but if they need him... he's got to be ready to go.
Tell your roomate that drinking Red Bull is trendy and he should be embarassed that he was upset that you almost made him spill it. Next time just knock that shtein out of his hand and pimp smack him.
When Uncle Charlie went out to the argue the zesty ump asked him "DO you want to be run?" And Charlie said "You goddamn right" and he tossed him outta there.
Totally f'in awesome...
I LUVE ME SUM DAVID BELL.
He's a good guy, I would feel bad. Tonight he manned a keg at frat party and got all this beer spilled on him. Poor baby.
Shame on him for not drinking the beer while standing at the keg. I'd be floating that sumbitch if they were dumb enough to tell me to watch a keg.
Anyways...hi ho, hi ho its back to work I go.
Playoffs here we come.
I'm going tuesday
And getting playoff tickets
Go Sillies!!
