Putting all of the NFL news for the season into one thread doesn't seem like a particularly good idea, especially since that is supposed to be the role of this entire board. At the very least, please break it down into week like last year. Organized, narrowly targeted threads >> one long rambling conversation. It allows people to ignore topics they are not interested in and read the ones they do care about, instead of having to wade through 30 pages of boring topics, hype, and "your mom" jokes to find the information they are looking for. Thanks.

Start the weekly threads yourself if you want 'em.

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

This place definitely needs more pointless threads. MORE, I say!
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Summerall went from "A" team to nothing without Madden. They made such a dynamic duo.

And wasn't one of the reasons Madden and Summerall split was that Summerall was retiring? Why the hell did he decide to come back?

emmitt smith might be the dumbest analyst ever

i love the guy but he is just atrocious

last week they had a segment on impact rookies...calvin johnson and some other guy was taken....emmitt says he loves travis henry in denver and started talking about how well he played in tennesee last year

this morning he called damon huard a young QB

he is awful and its obvious he has no clue about the nfl

that is all

One thing I've learned over the years is that we as fans know way, way more about NFL players then NFL players do.

Tim Couch's comeback with Jacksonville is over.

Denver lost Ebenezer Ekuban for the season (Achilles) and Travis Henry left with a sprained knee.

Reggie Nelson hurt his ankle last night.  No word on how bad it is but they think he'll miss some time...

VICK PLEA DEAL WON'T BE ACCEPTED UNTIL AUGUST 27, AT THE EARLIEST

WSB-TV in Atlanta reports that a hearing before Judge Henry Hudson on any plea deal involving Falcons quarterback Mike Vick would not occur before Monday, August 27.

The reason for this delay is that, before a hearing can be scheduled, there has to be a deal.  As of yet, there is no deal.

Though the delay isn't significant, the real news here is that, if there's a deal, the judge presiding over the case hasn't been told about it.  And that suggests that there is no deal.

It makes us wonder whether there even will be.  At some point, prosecutors will pull the offer off of the table and proceed.

Of course, it's possible that the offer has been yanked, but that the Vick camp has yet to leak this fact to the media.  Don't count on the prosecutors saying anything more about this until the new indictment, with new charges, is announced.

QuoteDOGS AND CATS LIVING TOGETHER IN THE AFC WEST

Could the Apocalypse be approaching?  If so, we definitely have a sign that we can point to.

The Denver Broncos and the Oakland Raiders have engaged in a trade.

Let's repeat that.  The Denver Broncos and the Oakland Raiders have engaged in a trade.

Specifically, the Broncos have shipped defensive tackle Gerard Warren to the Raiders for an undisclosed pick in the 2008 draft.

The move is stunning, given the acrimony between these two franchise and, specifically, the abject hatred shared by Raiders owner Al Davis and Broncos coach Mike Shanahan.  If anything, we would have expected to tension to increase with the recent hiring of former Raiders personnel guru Mike Lombardi by the Broncos.  But perhaps it was Lombardi who was able to work his old connections there in order to make the trade happen.

Surely, a trade to the Raiders was the only option that the Broncos had.  Even then, we're surprised that they didn't simply cut Warren in lieu of entering into a transaction with the Raiders.
