Sorry man, that's rough. The last dog that I had to put down had a tumor in one of his back legs and it got so big and painful to walk on he basically hopped around on 3 legs.. he managed to live another year and a half or so seemingly pain-free and had plenty of life left, and then one day his other back leg gave out and snapped, and his cry when it happened was the worst thing I've ever heard. It's one thing to know that they'll be gone soon but when it happens unexpectedly like that, so quickly, it's the worst.

Thanks guys.  We knew he had Lymphoma and it was a small window, but just the suddenness of today is crazy.  He was completely fine and the change was so quick.

Same thing happened to my husky.  He had cancerous growths a few times that had been removed without any incident.  Then when he was about 12 and a half years, he began to get a growth on his leg.  Eventually it was so big, that he would limp and barely moved.   We put him under around his 13th birthday, it was awful.  I feel your pain.

As much as I hated putting my lab down earlier this year, I'm so farging greatful that he pretty much just had to be put down because he was old.  I hope I never have to deal with any type of major illness or disease with a pet.

Sorry, man I didn't read your post. That sucks your dog died.

Pits are not bad at all as long as they're raised correctly. Hell, even rescues that were raised incorrectly can turn out pretty well. My cousin has a rescued pit who 4 years ago would show her teeth and growl at any man other than my cousin...now, this past christmas I walked in and she ran right up to me and jumped on my lap and wanted to be pet.

Sorry to hear about your pup SB. God that sounds horrible. I find myself hoping my dog just goes in his sleep one day. I don't know if I could deal with knowing he was in that much pain/having to take him to the vet knowing what's going to happen.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

Sgt PSN

Pits are great dogs.  In fact, there's really no such thing as a "bad dog" or "bad breed" out there, just bad owners.

Shocking that the racist hates pit bulls.  Who didn't see that one coming?

The issue with a bread like a pit is even if they are a good dog they can snap just like any other dog.  Problem is when they do they will farg you up.  Hell I got bit in the face by an English Bulldog and it ripped my nostril in half.  And the thing is the dog wasn't even trying to hurt me, if he was I would have a Michael Jackson nose.

Yeah, Bulldogs have one of the strongest jaws out there.  Once those fargers get a hold of something, you ain't getting them to let go.

Pits are, by nature, very loyal, loving and affectionate dogs......with their owner/family.  They are also extermely protective of their family and that's where they get the bad rep.  A lot of pit bull attacks are strangers doing something that the dog perceives as a threat and it goes straight into attack mode.  Of all the pit stories I've ever heard, I can't recall any that involved the pit going after his owner/family.

I used to think this way and then I learned I was wrong.  The data is clear:  pit bulls are no more likely to attack than any other breed.  If you choose to believe otherwise, you choose ignorance, plain and simple.

The most on point thing said so far about the danger of them is that once they do snap, you're in trouble with a capital T.

I have a boxer mix and a rott mix...would gladly have a pit some day.  Great dogs.

lol...most wrong thing ever...if you said there are breeds more prone to snapping than pits i would agree...but if you are saying a pit is equally prone to violence as a lab - poodle - beagle ect ect ect then you are just being silly
