QuoteBattered Vick questions role after Falcons loss
ESPN.com news services

Falcons quarterback Michael Vick is beat up and sounds a little fed up after last Sunday's 27-14 loss to the Giants.

Vick returned to practice on Thursday after missing Wednesday's session with a sore shoulder, according to a report in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The newspaper said the quarterback taped a session of Inside the NFL for HBO and told host Cris Carter that getting sacked a career-high seven times by the Giants got to him.

"It's the worst I ever felt," Vick told Carter.

During the interview, Vick blamed the game plan for the beating the Falcons took.

"You've got to throw the ball sometimes," Vick said. "You can't just line up and run the ball every time on first and second down. Teams key in on that and they have coaches, too. We're going to have to throw it more ... Coach [Jim Mora] is going have to trust in me to get it done and I'm up to the challenge to get it done."

Carter asked Vick if his old coach, Dan Reeves, was better for his game.

Vick answered: "When Reeves was here, I was 50 yards shy of 3,000 yards passing, and I was among top 15 in passing in NFL. Coach Reeves, he believed in me and gave me a chance to throw the football."

The frustrated quarterback didn't stop at questioning the coaching staff. He also wondered if he'd be better off with different teammates, specifically at wide receiver.

Carter threw out names like Chad Johnson and Randy Moss, and Vick said, "Or a Marvin Harrison. ... I always think about that, Cris. I always think, if I played in Indianapolis, what type of effect would I have on that team? Or what would I be able to do different? It's something I wish I could do for just one week."

Taking a shot at the head coach? Check.
Taking a shot at his teammates? Check.

For the last few years all we hear is how Mike just wants to be himself. he wants to not be shoe-horned into an offense and be able to run. He praises the option offense the lifted from West Virginia and says it is allowing him to be him.

Now the dude is saying he wants to throw it? And seems to say that Dan Reeves is a better coach than Mora?

Ha! The guy is nuts.

So the dumbest player in the history of the league gets sacked a few times and then complains about not passing the ball enough, when everyone in the league knows that he can't pass his way out of a paper bag? On top of that he's spent the last several years whining about how running the ball is part of his game and makes up for his awful quarterbacking skills? Sounds like someone wants to hand his job over to Matt Schaub.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

It would be great if the Falcons continue to suck.  I really never had anything against them until Jim Mora's little rant following their loss to the Eagles in the NFCCG.

Come on, you know the coaches have to be dying to play Schaub.  Vick is the classic "potential" guy coach killer.  If I'm a coach, I don't want some dynamic mystery waiting to happen on every play.  I don't want excitement.  I want a consistent guy that can do what I ask him to do on a regular basis.  I'd definitely want someone else to have the highlight film headache.

The funny thing is they gave Vick that huge contract extension with Schaub on the roster. If they were smart, and they're not, they'd trade Vick and let Schaub run that offense.

Matt Schaub, with that running game, would be lethal. They'd rule that NFC South.

Schaub is a goner after this year. I wonder where he'll end up? Oakland?

They're roasting his ass on the radio here and I love it.  Kinda surprising considering the homer-style radio that dominates around here.

Still the organiztion and the majority of fans here refuse to even consider the idea that Vick could be to blame for a passing offense that's dead last in the NFL.  They ignore the fact that during Vick's time here, they've:

1. Changed Head Coaches
2. Changed Offensive Coordinators/QB Coaches
3. Spent 3 1st round picks on WR's for him... and just brought in Ashley Lelie as another weapon.
4. Provided an All-Pro RB in Warrick Dunn
5. Provided an All Pro-TE in Alge Crumpler
6. Brought in Steve Young as a QB coach/consultant
7. (Sort of) brought Alex Gibbs out of retirement to implement a blocking scheme for the offensive line

... all in an effort to make his job easier and he still can't get it done.  Now here he is, throwing eveyone else under the bus as if he's not part of the problem.

Even more... Warrick Dunn has just come out saying that he's unhappy because he'd like to catch more passes, Ashley Lelie is (already) unhappy because he wants to catch more passes.  All this with the Steelers coming to town.  Week by week... the Matt Schaub buzz is getting louder and louder... and it'll get even worse after the Steelers drop Vick's ass this weekend.

That was all their owner. And he's actually smart. Who sells more jerseys/tickets, Vick or Schaub? Vick. Who causes a buzz? Vick. Winning games? Being effective on the field? These things are secondary.

They have so much talent on O that I think you would have to be right about that.

i still find it super funny that his personal claim to fame in the nfl is that he once threw for 50 yards short of 3000

No doubt. Porn stache' Blank (him and Lurie should grow 'em back) is reaping the benefits of having him on that team. He helps generate a buzz for a relatively moribund fan base.

But one could argue that a consistent winner would also help a city spend money on the team.

IGY,

They'll never stop blowing him. He's an ESPN center piece. Can you think of a player, in any sport, who has been hailed as great by the talking heads but doesn't do it on the field/court/ice?

Off the top of my head I can't. The hype -to- production ratio with him is overloaded on the hype side of things.

On top of everything else, his math sucks.  Technically, he was 64 yards shy of 3000.

You gotta remember, this is the same guy who threw for 200 yards and 2 TD's against the Dolphins last year and pounded his chest in the postgame PC about how he "doesn't want to hear anymore about how he can't throw."
