Draft Projection
 Round 2

Sources Tell Us
"Right off the bat, his draft value has a ceiling because he's a slot receiver. At least that is how I see it. I don't think he has the speed to get open outside. He's a good value in the middle rounds, though, because of his return=game potential." -- NFC South scout

NFL Comparison
 Ryan Broyles

Bottom Line
Intelligent, instinctive receiver with an advanced feel for getting himself open against zone coverage and off man. Play speed doesn't match timed speed. Needs to force cornerbacks to respect him over the top.. Agholor's best position could be working from the slot as a reliable possession receiver who can step right into the punt-returner job on Day 1.

Nice, safe, smart pick.  He's just the sort of receiver that Chip loves and he's got impeccable character too.

Well let's be real - he's a good player. He's not awful and will help them win. Needed a wideout badly too.

Risk / reward.  Perriman has a higher ceiling and lower floor.  I'd still have wanted him there but I'm not upset about the pick.

When you run the best system, it stands to reason that players who fit the system are automatically the best players.

Philadelphia Eagles: Nelson Agholor, WR, USC: B- Grade

Meh. Chip Kelly is familiar with Nelson Agholor, but perhaps he should begin scouting outside of the Pac-12. Agholor makes sense from a needs perspective, but this is a bit of a reach; I had him slotted in the second round. Agholor doesn't have the athleticism you want in a pick this high.  Agholor, however, is versatile and should help on offense next season.

It's a solid pick. I don't think he has the upside Perriman or Dorsett had. Less total bust potential than Perriman was, but I always prefer to go with the higher ceiling.

Receiving corps lacking speed still, however.

it cant happen with agolohar he doesnt have the talent....but yes its possible

the problem is chip places being a sweetheart/hard worker far above talent...not a question in my mind that agoholar interviewed really well and thats why chip took him

he also puts too much emphasis on body type...someone like phillip dorsett wasnt on his board....which is just stupid
Title: Re: Nelson Agholor, Philadelphia Eagle

Watched as much tape as I could find on Agholor. I don't see the Maclin comparisons at all but definitely see the Matthews comparisons. He plays faster than Matthews but doesn't have or use his size the same. Like Matthews he doesn't get much separation but he makes quick cuts...it's obviously more important in Chips scheme than straight line burner speed. Overall I like the pick I just hate the limited ceiling.

Don't know what price they'd have to pay but Parker at 14 would have been incredible

I wanted Perriman but I'm not aghast at this pick like I was the Smith one last year.

He's a good fit for the system and he's going to be a solid pro.  Not sure what there is to complain about here, but this being :CF I suppose there's always something to find fault with.

safe pick at a position of need...nothing to complain about here.

this team isn't in the position to take boom/bust guys in the first round.

perriman isnt boom bust...he just isnt as nfl ready/polished as agohlar

dorsett is as ready as agohlar and much more talented

im fine with the pick cause of position....like i said i was scared to death he wasnt going to take a wr....and he should take a couple more...but im disappointed once again in his overall philosophy...it was yet another chipstem pick...the guy imo was only the third best wr avaiable on the board when the eagles took him but he played in the pac 10 and gave chip a good interview so he took him
Title: Re: Nelson Agholor, Philadelphia Eagle

I agree that Agholor was the 3rd most talented of those three, but I disagree he took him because of a good interview. All indications are Perriman is a really great guy and gave good interviews himself. He also is actually more of the Chip Kelly mold with his body type. Chip likes big guys.

I think Chip just thinks Agholor is a better player(for the system), and that's why he took him. I personally disagree, but if Chip thought Perriman was better, I think he would have taken him, because he fills in all of Chip's check marks. Maybe even more than Agholor does, because he's bigger than Agholor.

Maybe...I don't think that was clear this time though.  You had a lot of scouts / analysts whatever who had any of them 1-3.  It wasn't like Perriman and Dorsett were considered better across the board and Chip grabbed Agholor as a big reach.  I think they were ranked interchangeably from a lot of sites I read (Grantland, as an example, did a profile on the top 6 WRs and didn't have Perriman or Dorsett in the top 6).

I think where you're right though is when something is close, chip is always going to give the tie to someone who fits his culture or whatever, rather than someone who you could say is a better athlete but has more question marks.

chip goes way back with agolohar....in home recruited him out of high school...also he went to tampa to personally work him out...agholar also had the longest novacare visit of any player and afterwards chip raved about the interview....he doesnt have a josh huff type relationship with him but chip on a personal level friggin loves the kid

taklent wise they arent close...true that agohlar made a late run in the process...but he was a middle second rounder for 95% of the offseason...imo he goes second round if chip doesnt take him...

i think the agohlar pick makes much more sense if you didnt take jordan matthews last year...you already have your solid steady good route runner....why not add a potential beast in perriman or a field stretcher like dorsett to go with the matthews ertz's and kkk's of the world

that said i really do like him...shtein he was on my top 3 picks for the first round...hes gonna produce...hes def better than jordan matthews....it sounds like im compalkining about him but im more playing devils advocate and criticizing the thought process of the pick....not the pick itself

20. Philadelphia Eagles

If you ignore the fact that the Eagles werenít able to get quarterback Marcus Mariota, this is not a bad pick. Agholor is a solid player who fills the need created by Chip Kellyís inability to keep Jeremy Maclin as a free agent and cutting DeSean Jackson last year. Other pressing needs -- at defensive back especially -- remain unfilled. Thumbs down. -- Phil Sheridan

For the most part, things have been quiet on the Nelson Agholor front since the Philadelphia Eagles selected him in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft. During spring practices, Agholor ran with the second and sometimes third team offenses behind Riley Cooper, Jordan Matthews, Josh Huff, Miles Austin and sometimes even veteran Seyi Ajirotutu.

The storm is on it's way, and when it breaks, the buzz surrounding Agholor will be overwhelming. Sound the alarm if you're a fantasy footballer--this is your first official alert. Get Agholor on your radar and make sure you snag him in your drafts.

Agholor's unique lateral agility and explosion make him difficult to contain in and out of breaks. This will continue to be his unique advantage at the next level. According to Pro Football Focus, he finished 2014 having forced 17 missed tackles--the sixth-highest total of any receiver in his class. His explosiveness and speed are very similar to the Eagles' most productive wide receiver in 2014--Jeremy Maclin.

Picking up the nuances of the NFL are not easy for a rookie, and in order to inherit Maclin's role at some point in 2015, he will need to first prove that he is ready for the responsibility. All accounts have described Agholor as a hard worker with the right mentality and a great approach to the game. One NFL executive described him as a true No. 1 wide receiver that would take over as the Eagles' top option sooner than expected.

In his final season at USC, Agholor finished with 1,306 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns. In eight games, Agholor turned in at least one explosive play of 20+ yards. He finished off his strong season with consecutive 200+ yard receiving games. According to Pro Football Focus, Agholor reeled in 76.3 percent of passes thrown his way--good for the sixth-best rate among all wide receivers selected in the 2015 NFL Draft.

As mentioned above, Agholor ran behind second-year wide receivers Jordan Matthews and Josh Huff, and behind veterans Riley Cooper and Mile Austin. Huff struggled with drops and concentration lapses throughout spring practices. Cooper was awful as a starter in 2014 ó he finished 110th out of 110 qualifiers at wide receiver, according to Pro Football Focus. Austin is a shell of his former self. Talent always rises to the top, and Agholor is arguably the best or second best talent in this group.

In 2014, the Eagles led the NFL in deep pass attempts with 96, and 55 of those went to Cooper and Maclin. Cooper managed to drop two of his seven deep targets deemed catchable. Donít expect new Eagles QB Sam Bradford to make the same mistake and target Cooper 21 times again in 2015.

Agholor has deep speed in his repertoire as well--he ran an official 4.42 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. He also made many explosive plays over the top in 2014 at USC. There are big plays for the taking in this Eagles offense, and it wonít take long for Kelly to recognize that Agholor gives the team a better chance at completing these plays than Cooper and/or Huff.

Agholor's inevitable breakout won't only come in the receiving game. He is an excellent return man, and if the Eagles give him a chance to win this job, he should run away with it. In 2014, he averaged 13.0 yards per punt return and scored two touchdowns on just 14 total returns.

It will be interesting to see where the Eagles deploy Agholor in 2015. He saw his 843 offensive snaps in 2014, and he split those snaps on the outside and in the slot. Agholor's skill set makes him dynamic in the slot, but smaller framed wider receivers like Odell Beckham Jr. and Antonio Brown have proven that prospects with this build can also dominate on the outside.

Eagles head coach Chip Kelly has mentioned that he would prefer to keep Matthews in the slot, and this would mean that Agholor's best shot at earning playing time would come in a competition with Cooper, Huff and Austin on the outside. I believe that Kelly will eventually settle on some kind of combination based on down and distance--Agholor will get his due in the slot.

The breakout is coming, and it's going to happen a lot sooner than people realize at this moment.

not really...smeags is a neanderthal, sd is a misogynist and j only cares about the football end of things

pretty much what youd expect

this is one of those times where everyone should sit back and wait for facts to come out before jumping to conclusions. remember, roughly about 2% of rapes are proven to be made up. i know shes a stripper, but shes a human being who was quite possibly violated. lets keep that in mind.
Title: Re: Nelson Agholor, Philadelphia Eagle

I couldn't care less about football in this instance

What I do care about is people jumping to conclusion and thinking he's guilty before it's even investigated. And the info from Les and nj.com point towards made up. But even then jumping to a conclusion for either side is irresponsible

I won't go that far but I'm telling you guys there is ALWAYS someone watching those camera feeds.  They're recording whenever the business is open and it's highly unlikely to me that a sexual predator would do the deed in those circumstances.

If he's guilty then toss him into a vat of acid for all I care.

I am genuinely surprised about the lack of surveillance in those areas.  A friend of mine was a GM of a strip club here and the only places where there wasn't cameras was the public rest rooms.  They had them monitoring the door entrances, though.  Everywhere else had them including the (un)dressing areas and they were put there to protect the strippers from exactly this sort of shtein.  The strippers demanded them, in fact.

So do we take every and any criminal accusation at face value now? Convict anyone immediately if an accusation is levied?

It has nothing to do with the team. It's wait and not judge right away.

Brian Banks spent how many years in jail? Was he falsely accused?
There was a dude on the Lions or Colts who also had a false accusation brought against him.

I ripped into my local USC contingent of classmates the past few days about what a disaster #17 has been.  They're are all shocked by Agholor's performance.  I for one will not lie, I was so ecstatic when they drafted him.  Albeit his college career was by no means off the charts I was still pumped.  This has been just awful witnessing his continued demise.  Sunday was the last straw.  He needs to sit for a bit and figure out what the hell he's doing.  Probably to late as all signs are pointing to this guy just isn't very good.

I like it. Thankfully it wasn't Fisher

Nice, safe, smart pick. He's just the sort of receiver that Chip loves and he's got impeccable character too.

im fine with the pick

Well let's be real - he's a good player. He's not awful and will help them win. Needed a wideout badly too.

I'm not upset about the pick.

It's a solid pick.

Overall I like the pick

nothing to complain about here.

He's a good fit for the system and he's going to be a solid pro.  Not sure what there is to complain about here

nothing to complain about here.

You're all wrong. Agholor is a great learner. He has the best teacher in dropping balls in Matthews. Proves how smart he really is.

I hope he doesn't take lessons from Brandon Graham on how to have a long, unproductive career.

I was told last year that DGB had trouble even getting lined up correctly for Titans. Guess this year wasn't going much better.

Where this board will look really bad is when Agholor sees a sports psychologist and receives for 1200 yards next year for the Pats.

My comment stands. It was a completely understandable pick. They needed a WR and he was a highly rated WR. Turns out he's an absolutely terrible NFL WR, however. Huge disappointment and bust of a pick. He makes Freddie Mitchell look like an all-time great WR pick.

It's not like some light switch turned on. His evolution isn't happening in a vacuum... he moved to the slot, Jeffrey is demanding more attention than Jordan Matthews, and Wentz is getting better.

Couldn't disagree more.  He couldn't line up in the right spot last season or on the line of scrimmage correctly and was dropping everything. His concentration was off, you could tell by his play on the field. He's confident and composed, if you moved him to the outside he'd still be productive.

Jeffery has only been ok. Definitely hasn't lived up to expectations. I don't think D coordinators are staying up late at night plotting ways to stop him.

yeah slot doesnt have anything to do with it....he played slot a good amount last year...with agholor it is 100% about confidence...im not saying it will happen but it wouldnt suprise me if he had a bad game at some point and fell into a slump

that said slot is where he should be playing hes not an outside wr

There are a lot of things that have changed, almost all for the better

he's a better fit in the slot
he's gotten mental/psychological/sprititual help, whatever it was to get his head "in the game"
his quarterback is better this year than he was last
his coach is better this year than he was last
the rest of the WR corps is better this year than they were last year
the O line is better this year.

Dunno who or what to blame it on, but the difference is night and day (whereas Graham just improves slowly but surely)

He is also a skittish receiver when he hears footsteps and that led to a  a number of drops in his past. He's overcome that to a good degree this year.

agree that having a competent WR corps around him helps, but also agree with the other sentiment that Jeffery has been meh this year.  Wentz has missed him a few times down the field, but since he doesn't get great separation, he's supposed to make his $$$$$$$ on elite contested catches, and he just hasn't done that this year.  Certainly competent.  Probably a great WR2 if you have a legit WR1 next to him, but he's not someone I spend big $ on to build my WR corps around.

And a problem with those contested 50/50 balls, especially he ones he's  supposed to high point, is that he is injury prone.

I'm happy we have him.

He has worked his ass off and deserves all the success he has had. Hope he sticks with the birds for a long time. I think he hasn't hit his ceiling yet.

In other news...was talking to a friend and saw that Riley Cooper was picked before Antonio Brown was. So, there's that.

So Agholar's salary this year is now guaranteed.  I'm shocked (but pleased) that they kept him.

Makes for a pretty formidable WR set with Alshon the Great and Pimp.  In 2 TE sets, you've got Zach and Dallas out there too...they can't cover everyone.

The real key is to now get a legit threat at RB so Doug doesn't have to go Andy express throwing 90% on the time. Then we might see Wentz healthy past week 10.

obviously there are many factors that go into it (game score/situation, game planning, etc..) but i ran some numbers that are fairly interesting

if you take out the dallas game in 2017 where it was primarily the nate sudfeld show foles played four games with the ajayi/blount/good clement group and four games with the hideous josh adams/smallwood/sproles group

in the four games with the good backs doug threw 59% of the time
in the four games with the trash heap doug threw 58% of the time

total attempts were almost equal as well 264-258

for his three seasons as hc in the nfl doug is at 58% pass

moral of the story is regardless of total roster or who is at QB or on the OL....im pretty sure we know how much doug is going to pass the ball
Title: Re: Nelson Agholor, Philadelphia Eagle
Post by: Rome on March 15, 2019, 10:38:32 AM
They ran 38.23% and passed 61.77% of the time in 2018.  They ran 44.22% and passed 55.78% in 2017.

Which season was more successful?   Which team had better runners?

Look, itís a passing league.  No one is disputing that.  But balance is important unless you have Tom Brady on your team.  Wentz is no Tom Brady.   They need to address the running game because the slop they have now wonít cut the mustard.

I think they will because theyíre smart guys and they can see the same analytical advantage in being balanced as we can.   Whether Dougie will be disciplined enough to stick with it is another matter, though.

Title: Re: Nelson Agholor, Philadelphia Eagle
Post by: ice grillin you on March 15, 2019, 10:46:47 AM
than ran more in the superbowl year because they were up and up by a lot in most of those games

why were they up?...becuase wentz was the mvp of the league if he doesnt get hurt
Title: Re: Nelson Agholor, Philadelphia Eagle
Post by: Rome on March 15, 2019, 11:16:35 AM
They pounded the farg out of the ball and that allowed Wentz that extra second or two of defensive indecision to kill them.  If youíre suggesting they won despite the superior running backs/game they had, thatís fine.  I wouldnít expect any less of you.
Title: Re: Nelson Agholor, Philadelphia Eagle
Post by: General_Failure on March 15, 2019, 11:47:30 AM
Are these stats counting the number of times Wentz ran on broken plays?
Title: Re: Nelson Agholor, Philadelphia Eagle
Post by: ice grillin you on March 15, 2019, 01:41:46 PM
They pounded the farg out of the ball

hard lol...they ran it five times more per game....they won six games by 20+ pts...they trailed in the fourth quarter three? times all year

but you dont even need to look at the numbers....did you watch the games?...if you think they "pounded the farg out of the ball" to win those games then you just werent paying attention...they "pounded the farg out of the ball" up 30 in the 4Q...in those six games im taking about run pass was 50/50 but doug is a career 58% pass guy....do the math

If youíre suggesting they won despite the superior running backs/game they had, thatís fine.  I wouldnít expect any less of you.

i dont think you understand what despite means because how you could read my post and come away with the idea that i was saying they won the superbowl despite their RB's is beyond me...in fact i specifically said how superior the 2017 group was yet doug threw the same amount with foles in the game

i wasnt suggesting anything....i posted objectifiable numbers that probably but not definitely show that doug is going to be a coach who is in the high 50's% pass range moving forward regardless of the personnel
