interesting to me that the game is clearly fox's top at 100, yet they are getting the 3rd best announcing team.

I turned down a free ticket to this game.
Stadium is a dump in an asphalt wasteland. Been once, not going again.
I haven't been to every NFL stadium, but offhand only the Raiders and Rams have stadiums that seem as unappealing. And those are both temporary situations.
ive been once. to this game http://www.footballdb.com/games/boxscore.html?gid=2008122105
and the experience of going to that concrete hellhole was still worse than that legendary 5 performance
I went with Havas, matty, & sunny....2007 maybe? Whatever year Jeff Garcia played. I was drunk af for that one. I remember the stadium sucked and we paid like $100 for the privilege of parking about 2 miles away from it. The Eagles won. I think it was maybe Sheldon Brown who returned a long int for a TD. That's about it. I'm told that Jeff Garcia's uncle was sitting directly behind us.

what makes fed ex so repug is things like sarge is talking about....theres no pay parking so you gotta effing scalp a parking pass that goes for no less than 80...then theres the fact that lots dont open until 9 for tailgating....by the time you are all set up and just getting settled in on your third beer you gotta farging start thinking about breaking it all down....its just incredibly un fan friendly cause of their pos owner...oh then theres the insanely racist virginia section of their fan base you gotta be around for five hrs

Yeah, I forgot that we had to go meet some dude is a farging Denny's parking lot of something to get the passes to begin with. I figured it was matty's dealer or something and then you came back with some parking passes. The whole thing was sketch af.
fed ex is the only opposing stadium ive been to. diehard and I went there in '03. got these free tickets from a guy that used to post on the EMB. they were 1st row behind the skins bench. the eagles put the game away early and most of the upper level was wearing green.
and yeah, we had to grab a parking pass on the road leading up to the stadium. we pull in and there were about 20 cars waiting to get into the lot, all eagles fans.
FedEx is a travesty of a stadium 50% filled with the most brainless fans in football, 50% filled with fans of whoever they're playing that week. It's in the middle of nowhere, in a state they don't claim to represent which is different from the state where they practice.
I used to enjoy going to games there to troll Skins fans but I can't even get excited about that now. The whole experience is just farging sad.
Precisely.
I'm certainly not the only person who declines free tickets to FedEx field.

lol...it was even worse it was an applebees
when we used to go including the time you went not sure if you remember but we used to have one car go in with the pass....and it wasnt barcoded or anything...you just hung it on your mirror as you went in...so then wed take turns running the pass back out of the lot and handing it off to the next car...we would end up getting in 5 or 6 cars for the cost of the pass
I don't remember that, but I also don't remember most of the day's events anyway.
in other words it was a great day.
Probably.

a lot of nfl games are like this because of the parity but especially week 1 this is a game where i have absolutely no idea what to think
i could easily see what you are saying happen...jamison crowder is a monster who is going to have a huge year and farging patrick robinson is going to be covering him....jordan reed we all know about....they could definitely be picked to death on crossing routes and underneath
two things id say about that tho are crowder being on the injury report with a hip...no clue how serious it is but if that can neutralize him even a little it would be big....and the wash offense was a total train wreck in the preseason...yeah its the preseason but they were abominable
two keys for me are the progression of wentz now with real weaponry that can allow them to score with wash if they are clicking...and morgan moses....eagles need to make cousins uncomfortable for as good as he is he is really bad with any heat around him and with washingtons underneath passing game so good i dont think scwartzy can afford to dial up too many inside blitzes so the edge guys are gonna have to get loose and thats hard to do against trent williams so they need to work moses
ill take washington by a touchdown or less since they own the eagles and are at home....lets go with 27-20
Racists 27
Birds 20
not sold on Jeffery or Smith at WR, yet
Running backs - what running backs? Three midgets and an overweight has been
Defense - ugh
Eagles - 27
Washington - 17
Defensive line controls the game and Jalen Mills comes away with an INT. Wentz plays well and Doug goes full Andy and has a 70/30 pass to run ratio.

Reid never had that kind of pass to run ratio. I'm sure he did in an individual game here or there, but over his entire career with the Eagles, he typically kept it in the 55/45 to 60/40 range. The issue wasn't that he didn't run the ball enough, it was his situational play calling that was suspect...like trying to throw to the FB in the flat on 4th and 1. His play calling has always been fairly well balanced with an emphasis on the pass. It's a pass driven league. WTF is he supposed to do...run the wishbone? Because I think I remember him actually doing that the 1 year they had Duce/CBuck/Westy all reasonably healthy. 2003 maybe?

Warmack is a surprise...only dressing 7 OL is risky
i think thats the normal number for teams
8 is the norm. They've lost two or more lineman in a game a few times over the last few years.
They're dressing 4 RBs? I guess Blount can fill in at OL in case there's an injury
7 is normal but 8 isnt abnormal
washington dressed 7 OL today
3 CBs seems like more of a risk than 7 OL, but I guess they could put Caleb Sturgis at CB without really losing much ability over what they are throwing out there now.
More surprised Rasul isn't active as fourth cb than warmack.

jenkins slides to cb, graham to s...watkins can play cb. but yes.
3 corners for the eagles isnt the same as a lot of teams because jenkins is a s/cb....and especially against wash where he will be on the line against reed much of the day

Exactly! They had all the momentum going into the locker room. Stupid. We have Doug. They get Jay.
None of the NFC East coaches are particularly scary, Doug is just the most mentally feeble of the bunch.
This game very well could be decided by which coach does the least stupid shtein.

im still waiting for AO1 first ever three touchdown game (unless you count kerrigans)
someone remind me why celek is still on the team?

Finally looked like a pro QB with pro protection connecting with a pro WR on a play designed by a pro coach. Would like to see that more than once per game.

Stumbling over his own feet like he didn't expect himself to do anything today either.
ertz has to chip for vaitai on almost every play
What's up with the Fox play clock. Been buggy as shtein for half the game.
farging retarded play
you cant trick your way into a 3rd and 12 first down...and a play like that can lose you yards making the field goal more difficult...just drop back and sling it even if you only get 8 yards you make the fg a gimme

That was a nice looking sack.
the fun league is back!!
R.I.P. Trent Williams
Penalty negates the big play and continues the drive. Super.
At least the front 7 looks good. A lot of blitzing but if they can keep the pressure up all year it can at least take some heat off of the bums that'll be rotating at CB for the year.
What an unbelievably stupid and unnecessary hold.
They're getting low key farged by the refs

Don't worry I'm sure Doug has some super special backwards pass drawn up to answer this

i wont hate him for it but if you wanna be elite you gotta make that throw
Doug's only gonna let him try that like seven or eight more times today before they decide to start working on those long passes in practice.

That's the play you call before you sign a big WR in the offseason.
At least Donnie was on point.
Pederson is such a farging joke. Someone chart yards per play on plays he makes Carson throw immediately or where Agholor is in motion. Normal pass plays with a normal offense look good. Doug P specialities look terrible. Throw him in a farging volcano and bring me a real coach.

Wentz misses high just the same as McNabb always missed low. I suppose he could grow/get coached out of it but I doubt it's going to happen. Basically just have to hope that he doesn't miss often because I'd be willing to be that more often that not, his misses will be intercepted.

There is no game report like reading this thread after a game.
Wentz showed flashes of promise, but needs to become more consistent. And those high throws have to stop.
But they won. And thanks to Irma, I got to see the game.
I spent the day at Great Falls National Park with old friends I haven't seen in 12 years. Some sad Washington faces on the roads coming back to Baltimore.
those are some strange errands
My kids did the junior ranger thing and we had a picnic. It was bangin.'
Maybe Wentz would be better at those deep throws if he had a small but amazingly fast receiver who could break away and get underneath anything he threw or if he settled the farg down in the pocket.

Not if you read this thread, they didn't.
It was a great win, very pretty. Pretty like this lady.

Didn't bother reading this thread, some random thoughts:
- O line played like shtein in pass protection. Wentz rarely had a pocket and when he did it collapsed pretty fast. He reminds me a bit of Rodgers with how he rolls out and flicks it downfield.
- They're hurting at back. Blount had some massive holes but he lacks the speed and cut back ability to take the play to the next level. He's great at finishing a run and he can play a role on this team but I don't want him as an every down back. Smallwood goes down too easy. Maybe it's because it's game 1 and his instincts aren't on point but he didn't anticipate hits and looked confused where to go on blocking schemes. Sproles is still the man.
- DBs played well for the most part. Schwartz needs to adjust for the over the middle slant especially with tall receivers like Pryor. Mills had decent coverage but no chance when he's giving up that much height and weight. No reason he should have single coverage with open lanes to contend with. Credit to Gruden for exploiting that mismatch.
- Love having a WR like Jeffery where Wentz can just lob it up and he has a decent chance of making a grab. Even the 3rd and long when he launched it into the endzone and it almost got picked, I was fine with that decision.
- It was probably mentioned, but Doug calling a TO with 2:02 on the clock was Reidesqe. farging moron. Why call a risky trick play when you're driving down the field at will.
- Ertz...great hands, but still can't break a tackle to save his life. It's early but without Matthews taking up the middle I think this is finally his breakout season.
- Agholor - I was wrong, definitely looks like a different player. Lights on. I hope they use him deep a lot early because nobody is expecting much out of him...he catches a couple deep passes defenses now have something else to worry about for rest of the season. DJacks deep threat was just as important as his actual play.
- Wentz looked sloppy. It was game 1 and he was under duress and didn't get much reps in the preseason games so it's not a concern.
- D line. Not much needs to be said, they dominated.
- Kendricks preseason play has carried over to the regular season. Hicks played well. Bradham was rough.
- Great turnout by Eagles fans.
they certainly have some things to work on, but a week one divisional win is in the books. on to KC.
Pretty good summary, SD.
I agree at RB. I like Blount and he has a role here but an every down back isn't that role. We know he's not a polished receiver and he especially isn't going to succeed if Pederson wants to run out of the goddamn shotgun. I know they don't have a FB but they could use Celek or Burton as a lead sometimes. Or just a plain old single back set with Wentz under center would be better than the slow developing running plays out of shotgun. Its one thing to have Sproles there who can get moving quick - but Blount's slothlike acceleration ain't built for that.
Smallwood, I think, can play. He's shown some flashes but I think the OL not really opening much up yesterday didn't help. He's got this year to show he can do something otherwise peace out.
The front 7 needs to continue to play like they did for them to stand any chance of being a good team. McLeod and Jenkins are nice safeties and I like Mills but they need that pressure to make up for the CB problem. Robinson played ok but I think he's going to get picked on pretty quick. Its my hope that Douglas (I always wanna call him Rasul Butler) can be a good player.
I disagree with a bunch of those points.
- I thought the O line was giving Wentz enough time to get rid of the ball on many plays, but he was taking his sweet time waiting for receivers to get open. If the pocket collapses after a few seconds, to me that's not indicative of bad pass protection, that's what eventually happens to every pocket when you hold onto the ball too long. Obviously the O line play was not perfect, and Big V is not Peters by any stretch of the imagination, but I didn't think they protected like shtein at all.
- In short yardage situations, I thought the O line was bad in run blocking. Maybe they won't look as bad against worse D lines. I agree that Blount and Smallwood didn't do much in early downs. But it should also be said that running plays were rare in this game, so no one really got a chance to get going.
- The CBs were atrocious. A QB who was playing well would have carved them up. Even with Cousins' rough day, there were still a number of Washington drops that would have gained serious yardage. Obviously I don't have the All-22 but from what I could see, I saw many receivers wide open.
- Doug (actually Wentz on the 4th down) called a TO with 2:02 left because the play clock was at 1 second after their attempt to get Washington to jump offsides.
- I thought Bradham played fine overall, but just stood out negatively on a few plays. He had a dumb costly holding penalty... he's not known for being an intellectual. He also didn't reel in that pick early on, but who cares. He made a bigtime play just jumping the route in the first place. He was one of the players that Chris Thompson made fools of on his beastmode TD. He was actually the person in coverage, a blatant mismatch that Cousins exploited. To me the villain of that play was Corey Graham, who missed a tackle and took out a couple other Eagles in the process.

yeah the time was fine...wentz had mad happy feet yesterday and as i mentioned in the thread yesterday he still has trouble throwing to spots...he can throw to a receiver but he cant yet take a three step drop and throw the ball to an area that he trusts a wr is going to be....the slant to jeffery was the only time he did it yesterday and he rarely did it last year
you can complain about 1000 different things, as we have, but remember this:
their last 2 road division wins, in competitive games, were against a hobbled tony romo and matt cassel.
We must have watched a different game. I re-watched the game this morning and thought the pass blocking was even worse than what I thought it was yesterday. Wentz never really gets a pocket, when he does it's on designed short yardage plays, when he needs time there's a false pocket that looks like it's forming then collapses on top of him. A lot of the middle of the field throws were on rollouts or he steps out of the pocket to make a throw.
Quote- In short yardage situations, I thought the O line was bad in run blocking. Maybe they won't look as bad against worse D lines. I agree that Blount and Smallwood didn't do much in early downs. But it should also be said that running plays were rare in this game, so no one really got a chance to get going.
I don't disagree with the short yardage run blocking. Most teams employ a RBC. Run pass ratio was 24 rush attempts to 39 passing plays, that's not horrible. It's a passing league. I would have liked to see them establish the run but they're going to ride Wentz.
Quote- The CBs were atrocious. A QB who was playing well would have carved them up. Even with Cousins' rough day, there were still a number of Washington drops that would have gained serious yardage. Obviously I don't have the All-22 but from what I could see, I saw many receivers wide open.
Cousins is a high efficiency QB. He's carved the Eagles D over the past 3 seasons. He barely passed for over 50% and their passing plays only averaged 4.5 yards per pass. Sure the D line was awesome, but saying the CBs were atrocious is a joke. Pryor had a few nice catches because he's a good WR, Crowder was non existent. Reed was covered by CBs for most of the game and had little impact.
Quote- I thought Bradham played fine overall, but just stood out negatively on a few plays.
Bradham looked lost in pass coverage and missed more than just a few tackles. He couldn't get off blocks either. Again, it's week one, the first team D hasn't had a lot of reps. I was just making an observation about the LBs in general. Kendricks needs to get more playing time. Upon second watch he wasn't on the field as much as I thought he was but he was flying all over the field.

Didn't bother reading this thread, some random thoughts:
- Wentz looked sloppy. It was game 1 and he was under duress and didn't get much reps in the preseason games so it's not a concern.
Had you bothered to read the thread, you would understand that Wentz farging sucks.
If he's willing to repeat himself, igy will fill you in on the details

to often he steps out of the pocket to quickly....he also had a problem with holding the ball for too long....i doubt you feel like paying for it but its more than worth it to get the nfl game pass that gives you the all 22 film...you can see how many times someone is open almost right away but wentz doesnt see the man or is reluctant to throw the ball...im not saying the line was great but it also wasnt awful and was certainly adequate in yesterdays game
i dont think wentz was terrible or anything he had a solid day....but between the pick 6 and the pts he left on the field with his inaccurate under throwing on deep balls if i had to pick i would say the qb was a bigger issue yesterday than the line
is wentz better than cousins
Doubt you'll get an answer there.
On another note: yesterday was the first win without a run longer than 7 yards since 10/27/96 vs Carolina per Roob

I enjoy this make believe history that eagles fans hated on mcnabb his first few years. Dude was beloved from 99-2004 (especially 2000). Not that I have any time or interest in what he or SAS has to say anyway but gtfo.
even i loved him early
give j a minute he'll be in here to defend his knight in shining armor
whats funny is on gargano this morning he tried to bring on "jay" to defend mcnabb. i wonder if....

Yeah, most pageant girls don't do much for me but her bod ain't bad at all.
just watched her on regis and kelly to see if she would drop any AO1 references...she didnt but she seemed far less annoying than most winners....shes actually going to law school next...not sure how legit that is but she didnt seem like the stereotypical beauty winner
also this could be the low point of any game thread in history
Those are certainly more entertaining pictures.
And on the McNabb thing...everybody loved him early. There was no reason not to. It wasn't until people figured out his personality...seeing him crumble under pressure, throw people under the bus, hear the constant passive-aggressive bullshtein...that they were turned off. The problem is, McNabb loves himself so much that anyone else's adulation pales by comparison. He'll always feel that he doesn't get the respect he deserves, because he thinks he deserves ALL of it. And the more people see that, the less he'll get...and on and on. If you told him that he was a good QB, he'd be insulted because you didn't say great. He'd do himself a favor by shutting up and going away for a good bit. People need to forget who he is to appreciate a bit about what he was.

wait what
just watched the all 22 again
they arent all great players....only 55 and cox are even close to elite (cant really overstate how good 55 was sunday) but the rotation and the positional flexibility is really impressive by schwartz....even beau allen seemed to be in for half the game....the snap distribution is really eclectic and as good as 55 was he basically was a rotational player...only played a few more snaps than vinny curry...timmy jernnigan was on the edge for at least two plays that i saw
celek is toast and probably shouldnt be playing at all but the amount of time he gets over trey burton is a joke...i know burton cant block but this isnt 1987 anymore and the eagles werent runnign the ball sunday anyway...why not have another tool out there for wentz who seemed to be forming a pretty good relationship with burton last year
semulao was horrid and vaitai while nothing special did more than just hold his own...he was above average
BG was beastin. Insane how far he's come, it's like there's growth in his game every season. Completely unimaginable back when we were calling him McDougle.

The steak sauce, which is of course very controversial because nobody should use that garbage on a steak.
I'm not really worried about the offensive line. Any time I get concerned about it, I watch another game and see one of the many teams out there who have lines that are significantly worse. As long as Peters and Johnson are healthy it will be good enough to do what they want to do for the most part, even with the weakness on the interior. It's not going to match the Cowboys or Raiders, but I'll take the Eagles line over at least 20 teams in the league right now.
I think Wentz will get better on his deep passes. He was pretty good with them for the first few games last season, I remember Matthews and DGB dropping a few TD passes he dropped right in the bread basket.
This Eagles defense is going to be absolutely loaded in a couple years. Possibly by next season it will be a Superbowl caliber defense. Having Jones and Darby as your two starters plus young CB depth. They'd pretty much have at least one stud on every level of defense if Jones is as good as I think he is going to be. Just gotta fix the interior of the offensive line, find a running back and this team will be in pretty good shape overall.
