Okay, we had our draft yesterday, early, we usually do it on Labor Day weekend, but that didn't work out. You care.
I was the sixth pick in a ten team league with each TD being 6 points, and it's a points per reception league. Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 Rec, 1 PK, 1 DEF. There were 16 rounds. This is my team:
QB Manning, Peyton
QB Delhomme, Jake
QB Cutler, Jay
RB Johnson, Larry
RB Jones-Drew, Maurice
RB Portis, Clinton
RB Norwood, Jerious
RB Washington, Leon
WR Edwards, Braylon
WR Williams, Demetrius
WR Johnson, Calvin
TE Gates, Antonio
TE Shockey, Jeremy
TE Davis, Vernon
PK Stover, Matt
TDEF Bears, Chicago
I'm thinking I'd like to add another running back that has a better chance to have a better than expected year, maybe dump Leon Washington or Vernon Davis for him. The guys that jump out on the free agent board are Chris Brown, LenDale White, Marcel Shipp, and Anthony Thomas. Some guy drafted Chris Henry from the Titans, he's had a strong preseason, but will he be the full time back this year?
how the farg did you get manning AND those top three running backs...did you slip crack rocks into everyones beers before you started
your wr's are kinda weak but they are more than made up for by the backfield...jesus and i just noticed you got gates
btw the team that picked #2...what were his first three players
It's hard for me to remember, I don't have the draft sheet in front of me, but it basically went like this:
Johnson fell to me at six, Jones-Drew second round, Manning third (was really shocked he dropped that far), and after that it gets hazy. I'll have to go back and look....Gates didn't really slip, we just don't have a roster spot for TE's, they get lumped into the reciever category, so normally a gaggle of WRs go ahead of guys like Gates and Shockey. I think I took Gates in the fourth....
oh ok that makes a little more sense...i thought gates was your TE
ive never seen a league where manning didnt go first round....much less go in the third
He normally doesn't go in the first, early second. Points per reception leagues change when WRs and RBs get picked quite a bit. This year was pretty strange, it was really RB heavy in the first two rounds. IGs, here are the first four rounds, I bolded the guy who picked second.

yeah our league is 1 pt per reception and theres always a huge run of rb's in the first two rds...manning is usually the one guy that breaks that up
jackson
jones
TO
is what the number two guy in your league got...TO seems to be the popular pick at 22 there...ive looked at a ton of mocks to see what i can expect to get at the 19th and 22nd picks and he is consistenly in there
If I were him, I would have gone 1. Jackson, 2. Manning/Steve Smith, 3.Lynch/Jacobs
I didn't have Thomas Jones rated so highly, maybe around 22-26th overall. I think he reached for him because he needed another RB and felt the drop off was pretty great after that.
I think he reached for him because he needed another RB and felt the drop off was pretty great after that
thats EXACTLY what im worried about at 19 or 22...being suckered in at a rb reach because by the time your next pick comes around youre looking at brandon jacobs or someone likethat as your #2 back...i like how john t got palmer in the 4th though
Palmer slipped for sure. See how it goes though, some people get so locked into having to draft a certain position, they don't even notice great players available to them when they draft.
You're going to land Steven Jackson with your first pick, so you can cobble a RB2 together with a guy like Jacobs, Benson, Lynch, and some guys that fall later. Play the matchups at that point. Anyone who is playing against an L.T. or a Jackson has to make up so many points - L.T. and Jackson can and do put up 25+ on a week to week basis - with a guy like that you aren't so locked into need a stud RB2 like another team. Go back to last year and see what Jackson and L.T. did on an average week if you can. It's sick.

Doubtful the draft was nine rounds. Who else did you pick? Based on the fact you didn't post it, I am assuming you are ashamed, and you suck, like your running backs.
he did a fantasy draft while he was at eagle training camp
thats my top 7 and d/kicker. cant remember the rest and the league isnt up on yahoo since we did a live draft.
I'm still marveling at PPinDC's running backs. I think some people in his league must be a little slow.

If Jones Drew can play 16 games like he did the last half of last year, your looking good. He might put up more pts. than Bwest. He's a tough little sucker.

I've got the 4th pick in 10 minutes and not really liking it. Assuming LT, Jackson and Johnson are gone, I really have no idea who to pick. Gore's knee's are just like Buckhalter's, and I really could not stand rooting for Shaun Alexander. I'll go with Addai or Rudi probably, then hope for McGahee on the way back.
take westbrook if its a receptions league
As IGY said, if it's PPR, go with Westy or Bush. If not, you have to go with Gore, Alexander, or Addai in that order. Granted, Gore's knees are a question mark, but he showed no effects last year, and he was a farging beast. If you don't take him, and he puts up similar numbers, which he's projected to do, you'll be kicking yourself in the ass. Just make sure you handcuff him, which you can do on the FA wire later. While Alexander is as dry as wood, he should definately rebound from last year, and should be good as a RB1.
do not take bush 4th
Should have clarified that. At four, with LT, Jackson, Johnson going it should be Westy or Addai. Bush's ranking would definately get moved way up in a PPR league, but he shouldn't be in the top five.
It wasn't a receptions league, and I ended up taking Rudi 4th. I wasn't thrilled with it, but 4th-7th is the worst spot to pick I think because everyone in there is bunched the same. At least I know I'll get 1300 yards and 10 TDs.
Final results:
1. (4) Rudi Johnson RB
2 (17) Maurice Drew RB
3. (24) Marvin Harrison WR
4. (37) Anquan Boldin WR
5. (44) Philip Rivers QB
6. (57) Laveranues Coles WR
7. (64) New England DEF
8. (77) Deuce McAllister RB
9. (84) Benjamin Watson TE
10. (97) Matt Hasselbeck QB
11. (104) Isaac Bruce WR
12. (117) Heath Miller TE
13. (124) Leon Washington RB
14. (137) Carolina DEF
15. (144) Matt Stover K
Deuce and Maurice Drew both have the same bye week, but in the 8th round he was way too good to pass up. I was going to take Deangelo Williams or Brandon Jackson with my 13th pick but they were both taken right before my pick. I'm pretty happy with my team.

Ha. I paid for it when it came to WRs, when the big name WRs started to come off the board, I stuck with RBs. Normally I find a WR sometime in the season that does a servicable job. I later dropped Demetrius Williams and picked up Brandon Jones, I think he could be a quiet surprise, down the stretch last year he really started to improve, and while I still think Vince Young is going to slump this season, Jones is the only guy who is a decent option on the team.
Since it's all the rage to post your teams here... thoughts on my team? This is my annual 14-team league so clearly the pickins are slim. Basically I went entirely with players with huge upside and huge potential to bomb out and be terrible. All five of my running backs have been on the injury list this year. My quarterbacks are young and unproven, but have good WRs to through to. I got TO and Burress way after I should have because everyone hates them. Overall I'm pretty happy with the potential, but I don't have any real household name studs:
ZombieApocalypse
QB:
Matt Leinart
J.P. Losman
RB:
Travis Henry
Thomas Jones
Jerious Norwood
Tatum Bell
Mike Bell
WR/TE:
Terrell Owens
Plaxico Burress
Greg Jennings
Alge Crumpler
L.J. Smith
K:
Neil Rackers
DEF:
Cincinnati Bengals
hot. garbage.
Ha! Dick.
I'm just noticing that you've got the All-2003 squad.
Culpepper, Alexander, Joe Horn, Jamal Lewis, Hines Ward... the NFL doesn't have an old-timer's day.
well hopefully culpepper and horn never break the starting lineup, i'm pretty sure they were my last two picks.
alexander and ward will be fine.
jamal lewis could have a great year or be a huge bust.
I passed on Romo twice in our draft yesterday even though QB's were drying up. I couldn't bring myself to draft a Cowboy. Thankfully a guy who holds a special place in his heart for the Cowboys picked him up before I had no other choice but to take him.
wait i thought i was a taterskin fan?
I've never done a 14 team league, but I guess that's pretty solid. I'd definitely stay away from Henry but it's too late now.
His upside was just too much to pass on. Every time he's ever been a starter he's put up outstanding numbers. Couple that with the Denver offense and I couldn't resist... plus I handcuffed him since he's made out of swizzle sticks.
speaking of 2003...

Not bad for not giving a shtein either way, I guess.
