QuoteFreddie Mitchell Wants Attention
Posted by Mike Florio on April 27, 2009, 1:08 p.m.
As yet another year's worth of draft picks and undrafted slappies gain entrance into the NFL, a guy who was a first-round pick eight long years ago is crying out for some (more) attention.
Yes, it's FredEx. Freddie Mitchell. The ex-Philly receiver.
He's got a new blog, launched on April 26. For now, there's one post. And here's all it says: "I started this blog to give you the REAL information about myself. Everyday, I read old newspaper clips and blogs that are written by people who DO NOT know the real FREDDIE MITCHELL. Bookmark this page or click to follow me and you can ask me questions that will be answered by myself ASAP."
We mention this because we got an e-mail today (apparently from someone close to Fred) taking issue with a three-sentence item we posted on February 11, regarding the delivery of a package of marijuana. We initially assumed that the e-mail had gotten lost in cyberspace for two-plus months, but apparently it's part of an effort to get Freddie's name back into circulation at a time when teams are picking up players.
Fred, we don't suggest holding your breath. Unless you're trying to inhale. Allegedly.

To be fair, it actually took him 8 years to type all that.

What did you think of the Eagles latest draft? Was Andy Reid a fair coach? How difficult is it for a collage WR to pick up the West Coast Offence?
Jeff, Andy Reid is a very fair coach and I loved him to death. Looking back on things, I think that I speak for myself as well as most other players, we wish that we had the same type of relationship that he had with Donovan McNabb ... we'd probably all still have jobs ... lol!
I wasn't happy with the latest draft. The NFL has a lot of problems and it is harder than people think ... fans expect great things right away and it really takes 3 – 4 years to really get what you want out of a receiver ... bottom line ... the Eagles need to win now ...

QuoteAnd finally, Freddie Mitchell just won't go away. He was on WIP with Howard Eskin and Ike Reese this week, back to his usual schtick of slamming Donovan McNabb.
I thought about listening to the podcast and transcribing it, but the fine folks over at Sports Radio Interviews already took care of that.
Nothing really new. Mitchell pointed to McNabb's inconsistency as the reason the Eagles haven't won a Super Bowl, saying he can be Joe Montana one week and Ryan Leaf the next.
Mitchell added that McNabb has called players and teams around the league, bad-mouthing him.
"You know what it was funny...I was with the Kansas City Chiefs and I was in the elevator with Tony Gonzalez and Trent Green and they're like 'Fred, man I never would expect you to be this type of player," Mitchell said. "When Donovan called us and we talked to Donovan he was saying that you're kinda like a media whore'. I'm like this dude is calling around and stuff like that."

QuoteReport: Freddie Mitchell arrested
Posted by Michael David Smith on December 6, 2009 8:25 PM ET
Freddie Mitchell has managed to get his name in the news once again, but not in the way he might hope -- unless he's trying an unusual strategy for getting signed by the Cincinnati Bengals.
Mitchell, the former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver, was arrested in Philadelphia for failure to pay child support, according to a tweet from Leslie Gudel of CSN Philadelphia.
Mitchell, who played for the Eagles from 2001 to 2004, is remembered for being an outspoken player who said things like "I'd like to thank my hands for being so great."
But he may be more appropriately remembered for a quote that was spoken not by him but about him: When the Patriots met the Eagles in the Super Bowl, Patriots coach Bill Belichick said of Mitchell, "He's terrible, and you can print that."
Figures.
CSN said the child support case was filed in Indiana. WTF was he doing in Indiana?

QuotePosted by Michael David Smith on December 11, 2009 11:41 AM ET
Freddie Mitchell and Terrell Owens are a couple of former Philadelphia Eagles wide receivers who haven't always been embraced by Philly fans since leaving the franchise. But when Mitchell interviewed Owens today on 97.5 the Fanatic, it was a love fest in which Owens said there are no better fans than the ones in Philadelphia.
"No disrespect at all to Buffalo, I would have to give it to Philly," said Owens when asked whether Bills fans or Eagles fans are better. "Both organizations' fans embraced me with open arms but I never felt anything like when I stood in Lincoln Financial Field and heard 75,000 fans chant my name."
Owens and Mitchell both took some swipes at Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb, with Owens suggesting that McNabb is the reason he left and Mitchell hinting that he wished McNabb would have played as well in the Eagles' Super Bowl loss to the Patriots as Owens did.
"The city wasn't big enough for two people," Owens said. "Freddie can attest to my character, my interactions with the team and the way I carried myself in the locker room, and I have no regrets about anything. Would I have liked to have continued staying there and playing? Of course I would have. But it's unfortunate that a few things happened."
Said Mitchell of the Super Bowl, "T came to the game and he was prepared and everything else, and for whatever reason I didn't see a sense of urgency coming from Five."
Mitchell isn't exactly a Mike Wallace-style interviewer, and at one point Mitchell's co-host Dan Schwartzman had to ask him to stop kissing Owens' behind. But Mitchell repeatedly stated that Owens would be welcomed back if he wanted to return to Philadelphia and sign with the Eagles.
"They loved you," Mitchell told Owens. "They loved you here."
Owens will be a free agent after this season and says he has a few more years left in him, although he called Mitchell's suggestion that he could be an Eagle next year "a little far-fetched."
"If I could, would I like to play in Philly? Who knows," Owens said. "I'm just focusing on my last year here in Buffalo . . . these last four games."
Still, Owens knows he has a better shot of playing for the Eagles again than Mitchell does. Owens says he can picture a scenario in which both he and Mitchell are back at Lincoln Financial Field, but with a twist.
"I'll be playing," Owens said. "And Freddie will be attempting to sing the national anthem."
Does anything really need to be said?
q: how do you know you have issues?
Quote"The city wasn't big enough for two people," Owens said. "Freddie can attest to my character, my interactions with the team and the way I carried myself in the locker room, and I have no regrets about anything. Would I have liked to have continued staying there and playing? Of course I would have. But it's unfortunate that a few things happened."

he was on preston and steve trashing McNabb, that sweet hunk of man meat, and calling billicheck and idiot. i dont know why people give him the time of day.
Because he's a train wreck and he seems to be the only one who doesn't know it. That's his appeal.

HAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAAAAAAAAAAAA
QuoteQ: We need you to bless a new statistic, which captures the spread between arrogance and talent. Jordan was arrogant, but who wouldn't be, given his talent. But some knuckleheads, like Rex Ryan for example, are extremely arrogant without having proven themselves talented. I don't know who has the highest AT spread, but Durant definitely has the lowest. Whaddya think?
-- Ezra, Beantown
SG: Like it. Here's how you'd have to do it: Rank athletes from 1 to 100 for both talent and arrogance, then figure out their talent/arrogance ratio. For instance, Durant would be a 97 for talent and an 8 for arrogance, making him a +89 overall. Nearly impossible to beat. Kobe gets a 99 for talent but a 91 for arrogance, dropping him to a +8. Terrell Owens, at this point of his career, is a 61 for talent and a 95 for arrogance, making him a minus-34. You get the idea. Only one problem: the scores skew too highly towards hockey players (and by proxy, all Canadians) since it's nearly impossible by nature for Canadians to be arrogant unless Hollywood or Janet Jones corrupts them.
The highest talent/arrogance ratio ever? Bobby Orr; 100 for talent, 0 for arrogance. Our only perfect 100. The lowest talent/arrogance ratio ever? Freddie Mitchell: 10 for talent, 90 for arrogance, minus-80 overall. For some reason I can't think of anyone worse than Freddie Mitchell. He has to be the talent/arrogance nadir, right? Unless you opened it up to all walks of life; then you'd have Levi Johnson as a minus-100. I need to think about this more.
maybe the best thing i've ever read
http://phillysportsdaily.com/eagles/2011/01/04/freddie-mitchell-recalls-4th-and-26/
QuoteWe are nearing the seven-year anniversary of "4th and 26."
January 11, 2004. Eagles-Packers, divisional round of the playoffs. A false start penalty, a Donovan McNabb sack and an incompletion put the Eagles at death's door, facing a fourth and forever with 1:12 on the clock and trailing by three.
What happened next became instant lore.
With the Packers on deck for what promises to be another playoff classic, we present a first-person account of "4th and 26" the way only he can do it. Ladies and gentlemen, the People's Champ:
You know that play is a love-hate play for me because that was the first time they threw to me the whole friggin' game. I was blocking my ass off doing everything it took, doing the stuff that society doesn't recognize.
That whole year sucked for me, and the next year sucked even more. But anyway...
I actually had to go tell the coaches that I was wide open and to throw me the ball. The coaches literally had to talk into Donovan's headset and tell him I was wide open and to throw it to me.
Donovan looked at me in the huddle and said, "Ready?" And I said, "Dude, I've been ready the whole game."
I started reading the defense as soon as I got to the line of scrimmage. For most guys, it takes a lot of years to read defenses like that.
The name of the play was a 2 Jet Double Go. What it does is sends Pinkston and Thrash on "Go" routes and what I do, as the Sultan of Slot, is I read the middle. I had to take a certain angle that most young receivers wouldn't have taken. Any other angle and it would have been a bum play. I was the master of finding holes, and I knew right where the hole would be. It was money.
First of all Donovan's pass was behind me and it was wobbly, but I had to take advantage of the opportunity that was presented to me. Right when I caught the pill, I kind of knew I had the yardage right away. I looked at the sticks and to see where I was at and I knew I got it. I felt like Michael Jordan hitting a last-second shot or Tiger Woods sinking a 50-foot putt.
Then I had to pull out the belt...
That was for the crowd. Not a single person left that stadium when we were down, and I had to do something for them. Hugh Douglas used to say, "That's the People's Champ. He does it every time for the fans." I had to put the belt on for them. I was brought up like Brian Dawkins, with a love for Philly. When he heard the Eagles fans scream that was like church music to him. That's how I was. I was doing it for love while Donovan was doing it to prove people wrong for booing him.
This is how much of a team player I am: I came to the podium afterwards and said, "We don't need fate when we have 5." Man I blew him up! And that was the headlines in the papers...Meanwhile I'm dealing with him not throwing me the ball, and me being on my knee pads to help him out.
But in the end, I love being a part of that play. A lot of great receivers came through this league, but I'd rather have one memorable catch than go to the Pro Bowl. There are Pro Bowl and Hall of Fame players that have caught 20 times as many passes as me but aren't remembered. So I'm cool with it.
^^ didnt read that, but thought he was dead when i saw this topic bumped
edit: just read it, and indeed, it may actually be a top 5 read of all time. not sure what i like more - freddie's entirely too high opinion of himself as a professional wr or his continual not so discrete shots at 5.
It's good Freddie isn't full of himself
QuoteThat whole year sucked for me, and the next year sucked even more.
yeah, that Super Bowl appearance was awful
Good read. Actually got some goosebumps reading that. What a farging play. I like how he talks himself up so much and slams McNabb at the same time with the whole "it was wobbly and behind me" comment.
my favorite lines were:

I can picture him telling that story to a bunch of wide eyed 6 year olds.

it was for him - rodney harrison had more receptions from 5 than he did - even after talking all the shtein he did.
He was somewhat impressed that I recognized him in Vegas, but he got REALLY excited when my buddy said "4th and 26!"

Memories from a bunch of involved people, on CSN (http://www.csnphilly.com/01/05/11/Donovan-to-FredEx-Fourth-and-26-revisite/landing_eagles.html?blockID=384995&feedID=704)
This is the money quote for me, from Mitchell:
"Whenever anyone says, 'fourth-and-26,' they don't say Donovan McNabb threw that pass. They say Freddie Mitchell caught that pass."
lol...Freddie is a HOF in his mind.
I cant farging believe its been 7 years since that 4th and 26
I liked how he said he was the master of fining holes. I once spent a few hours with a guy who is an NFL analyst, probably after the '04 season. We got on the subject of Freddie and he described this red zone play where, at pre-snap the offense could see the D was out of position, and Mitchell had a clear path for a slant into the end zone for an easy score.
But instead of running right in, he made a couple of juke steps to a player lined up near him but who wouldn't be covering him, to make it look like he faked the defender out of his jock and left him in the dirt. But, it was a timing play so he didn't get there in time and it looked more like Donovan led him too much. Those things are why Donovan didn't throw to him.
why dont you just tell us who the analyst was
This thread could use a few pages dedicated to discussing whether or not name dropping is acceptable and the quality of this anonymous analysts work.

GF pretty much nailed it, the point was the Freddie story and why 5 wouldn't throw to him.
im curious
it has nothing to do with name dropping
i dont know you, will never know you and have no interest in knowing you. so why do i care who you hang out with.
someone told me freddie's in commercials right now for some matchmaking show on bravo and the woman calls him a loser or something.
that's awesome....more information will be necessary and ideally a youtube video at some point
I was going to bring that up. I was bored on my break and watching Bravo... he's in an upcoming episode.. I think this week or the week after. I'm confused because I was quite positive that Fredex doesn't have a million dollars.
Also, the woman on the show, Patty, usually tears into the millionaires. She called Paul Davis (of Michigan State/LA Clippers fame) a boring loser with no game.
Freddie was on first take this morning. I left the TV on when I fell asleep and woke up at one point to him talking about 4th and 26. I didn't catch all of it but he didn't say anything too crazy, aside from talking about how good he is/was at doing all the little things (blocking). And he did confirm he would be on Millionaire Matchmakers.

That's a stroke of genius there. If you're going to commit a felony, make sure it's a federal crime, not just state.
QuoteThe indictment filed by the U.S. attorney in Orlando, Fla., says a company set up by Mitchell, Chameleon Enterprises, was involved in the alleged scam.
Chameleon Enterprises? Really? Did he get that name from a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic book or something? Dense motherfarger, isn't he?
He obviously thought that the Feds would never find him.
Maybe he can get that weird looking woman to give relationship advice on how find that perfect inmate to make Freddie his bitch (never toss his salad until after he offers protection).
No wonder he looked all flustered when I saw him on Super Bowl Sunday.
Of course, he was also really hungover.
