I tried to get into it last year, but just couldn't. I will attempt again this year. Is Todd France back with them? I know he was signed and then signed by TB so does he still have his AFL contract?

Sean Scott & Marcus Knight are good.

Do they still have big ol' #36 Soul Train? He's the Mensa member who misspelled EAGLES during last years Wingbowl. :-D

He's still listed as their kicker, plus Carlos Perez is a rookie there now.  No more Soul Train though...

why did they get rid of soul train, he was fat and enjoyable to watch run around.

Upper Deck put out a set of cards, too.  The guy I played Little League baseball with has his own jersey card on ebay...  :-D

From the AFL site:

QuoteThe most notable free agent moves include: QB Michael Bishop (Grand Rapids to Chicago), OS Aaron Bailey (New Orleans to Grand Rapids), ... DS Kevin Gaines (Georgia to Philadelphia) and OL/DL E.J. Burt (Orlando to Philadelphia).
.
.
If you're looking for a long-shot to throw a few bucks on, take a stab at Dallas or Philadelphia. ... Philadelphia beefed up their defense this off-season (OL/DL E.J. Burt, DS Kevin Gaines and OL/DL Ernest Allen).
.
.
Keep an eye on these young guys this season: ...WR/LB J.J. McKelvey (Philadelphia Soul), ... K Bill Gramatica (Tampa Bay Storm)  :-D

Also a couple of rules changes:

-- No more ties
-- Kickoffs that go over the net are brought out to the 20 instead of the 5 (regular touchbacks)
-- In the final minute of each half, the team accepting a pass interfence or defensive holding call has the option to add the time elapsed back onto the game clock

A couple of team updates:

-- Because of the hurricane, the New Orleans VooDoo suspended operations for this season.
-- The two expansion teams are the Kansas City Brigade and the Utah Blaze.

SportsTalk 950 announced that all games will be broadcast on their station.  As for TV, they don't have many NBC games because they suck, so the others are probably on CSN (tape delay?)...

The new head coach is Bret Munsey, who was Jay Gruden's offensive coordinator/QB/defensive coordinator/DB/assistant head coach in Orlando...  :-D

Their new rookie FB/LB is 6'3" 270 and doesn't compete in chicken wing contests...  ;D

Post by: ice grillin you on January 26, 2006, 03:23:10 PM
It's been a long time, I shouldn't have left you
Without a strong rhyme to step to
Think of how many weak shows you slept through
Time's up, I'm sorry I kept you
Thinking of this, you keep repeating you miss
The rhymes from the microphone soloist
And you sit by the radio, hand on the dial, soon
As you hear it, pump up the volume
Dance wit the speaker 'till  you hear it blow,
Then plug in the headphone 'cause here it go
It's a 4 letter word when it's heard,  it control
your body to dance (You got it) soul,
Ditects the tempo like a red alert
Reaches your reflex, so let it work
When this is playing, you can't get stuck wit
The steps, so get set and I'm a still come up wit
A gift to be swift, follow the leader, the rhyme will go
Def wit the record that was mixed a long time ago
It can be done but only I can do it
For those that can dance and clap your hands to it
I start to think and then I sink
Into the paper like I was ink
When I'm writing, I'm trapped in between the lines,
I escape when I finish the rhyme...
I got soul

I know you got soul

Picture a mic, the stage is empty
A beat like this might tempt me
To pose, show my rings and my fat gold chain
Grab the mic like I'm on Soul Train
But I'll wait 'cause I mastered this
Let the others go first so the brothers don't miss
Eric B. break the sticks (you got it)
Rakim will begin when you make the mix
I'll experiment like a scientist
You wanna rhyme, you gotta sign my list
'Cause I'm a manifest and bless the mic I hold
You want it next?  then you gotta have soul
'Cause if you ain't got it, I'm a make an encore
Take the mic, make the people respond for
The R, 'cause that's the way it'll have to be
If you wanna get on after me
Think about it, wait, erase your rhyme

Forget it and don't waste your time
'Cause I'll be in the crowd if you ain't controlling it
Drop the mic, you shouldn't be holding it
This is how it should be done
This style is identical to none
Some try to make it sound like this but you're getting me
So upset that I'm wet 'cause you're sweating me
I drip steam like a microphone fiend
Eager to MC is my theme
I get hype when I hear a drum roll
Rakim is on the mic and you know I got soul

I got soul (you got it) that's why I came
To teach those who can't say my name
First of all, I'm the soloist, the soul controller
Rakim gets stronger as I get older
Constant elevation causes expansion
I write my rhyme while I cool in my mansion
Then put it on tape and in the city I test it
Then on the radio the R's requested
You listen to it, the concept might break you
'Cause almost anyone can relate to...
Whoever's out of hand, I'm give him handles
Light 'em up, blow 'em out like candles
Or should I just let him melt?
Then give him a hand so they can see how it felt
I'm not bold just cuz I rock gold
Rakim is on the mic and you know I got soul

Now I'm a stop to see what you got
Get off the mic before I get too hot
I want to see which posse can dance the best
It should be easy 'cause the beat is fresh
Now if your from Uptown, Brooklyn- bound,
The Bronx, Queens, or Long Island Sound,
Even other states come right and exact,
It ain't where you're from, it's where you're at
Since you came here, you have to show and prove
And do that dance until it don't move
'Cause all you need is soul self-esteem will release,
The rest is up to you, Rakim 'll say peace

You got it....I know you got SOOOOOUUUUULLLLL

Good game. 52-34 win. I was hoping that Stafford dude would get his legs broken because he "big timed" the interviewer coming out of the half.

Graziani got smoked on one play. I thought he was dead.

You should see my den.  Blood, brains, bits of skull... it's a farging mess in here.

:sly

BTW: The point I was laboring to make was, watching the Soul surrender cheap touchdowns after scoring themselves was eerily reminscent of the Eagles play this past season.  That's why I was pissed off watching that mess last night.

Plus, I got ahold of some bad nachos and ended up wretching my guts up last night.

PG, you know that I love hockey, but right now it is far, far below the popularity of the major sports.  It's on OLN because ESPN was getting better ratings for its bowling shows.  And that was before the lockout.

It's a niche sport in the northern US and then all of Canada. I still think their better off moving teams back to Hartford, Winnipeg, Quebec, and putting some in like Maine and Vermont. Problem is, they still think they're a major sport.

I think they were trying to take advantage of the Sixers and Flyers not using it on weekends this month, which is why they're halfway done their home schedule 5 weeks into the season.  Since they win on the road as often as the Lions or Cardinals do, it could be a problem...

Title: Re: Soul 2006 Thread
Post by: BigEd76 on March 26, 2006, 01:50:45 PM
Some good stuff in last night's game:

-- Sean Scott imitated TO on a few touchdowns. On one of them, he stood on the star logo in the endzone and posed, then on the one with 2 minutes left in the game, he ran out to midfield and stuck the ball on the star logo, prompting boos and an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty...

-- Philly took the lead with about 55 seconds left to make it 48-44, then they let Dallas score quickly to make it 51-48 Dallas. Philly goes back down and scores again with 20 seconds left to make it 55-51. Dallas comes back down the field on 2 plays and gets stopped at the 1 yard line with 6 seconds left. The first play was a quick incomplete pass. The next pass was a throwaway that bounced off the net and was intercepted....BUT....the refs decide to give Dallas another shot by calling a penalty. No time left. Dallas tries a QB sneak, Dolezel gets stuffed and fumbles the ball forward, where it's picked up by a teammate for the winning touchdown!.....BUT.....the 1-minute rules say that only the fumbling player can recover his own ball and advance it, so the Soul won.  Dallas sucks.  8)

They had a game on CSN tonight before SportsNite came on.

Stoney Case was getting some mop up time for San Jose.

Yes, the same Stoney Case that QB'd the Ravens and Cards.

You care.

I went to the Orlando/Austin game on Friday night in Orlando.  Austin has a very good offense but their defense is awful.  Orlando put up five straight touchdowns on them with their backups in before Austin pulled away with their starters.

The Soul should give them a run for their money if they play solid defense.

Austin barely beat the Soul in Philly about a month ago.  Also a quick reminder that this Austin team is partially owned by Deion Sanders, so it's a small reason to hate them...

Graziani's hurt, they turned the ball over before the half. It was nice that they at least made the playoffs.

I just glanced on sportsline and it said the score was 49-28 with 10 min left.  Is that about right?

The Soul won 52-35, and with #6 Georgia's upset of #3 New York, the Soul will face #2 Orlando next Sunday...

Otherwise the Soul would've went against #1 Dallas I believe. At least that's what they said on TV. They said it was either @ Dallas or @ Orlando.

Jerry's Desperados beat up on Georgia today, so the winner of tomorrow's game heads to Dallas for the conference championship game...

I'm going to the game later.

Nothing like dealing with 15,000 drunken hicks on a Sunday afternoon.

God help me.

Soul lose 31-27.

They have the ball at the 4 yard line, 2nd & goal, 10 seconds left and no timeouts.

Graziani under pressure, throws toward the end zone but forgot one thing.... the football.

He falls on his own fumble... gets sacked and time runs out.

Typical Philly playoff game.  3 pts in their final four possessions.  Now Jerry Jones is going to win another title....  >:(

Graziani is a goddamn choker! A real QB like Joe Hamilton wouldn't fumble that ball in tht situation! And what kind of playalling was that from Munsy?!? Fire him. Fire him NOW!
