Peavy got chased in the 5th by a Reggie Sanders Grand Slam. Cardinals up 8-0.
It's a joke that the NFC West got to send a team to the playoffs this year, kind of like it will be that the NFC North gets to send a team to the NFL playoffs.
Peavy was the one chance San Diego had of making any kind of series out of this. Cardinals will now probably sweep.
Padres are total garbage. Really the Phillies were the 4th best team in the NL.
4th best in the NL, maybe 9th best in the majors. That's not very good for having the 4th highest payroll.
I hope the Astros win the WS. This way everyone on the Phillies can sulk all summer and saying "It should've been us!"
Peavy's out for the rest of the season. Sucks to be him.
GO ASTROS!
The Padres season will only be a couple more games.
GO REDBIRDS!
I doubt Peavy's absence makes much of a difference, as I don't see the series going to game 5.

They just mentioned on sportscenter that Peavy originally injured himself celebrating the clinching of their weak-ass division. Today he reaggrivated it while throwing a wild pitch.
what a freakin' moron! "Yay! We're the worst team ever and we're going to the playoffs! Lets pile on top of each other to celebrate! WEEEE!"
Giants didn't make it and the Padres are going to get slammed...oh yeah, the phillies didn't make it either! :yay :evil
3 - 1 Astros (end of 3rd). Chipper homerun & 3 RBI from Morgan Ensberg.
GO ASTROS!
Biggio - sac fly, Ausmus scores. 4 - 1 (mid 4th)

The Angels got screwed on that strike 3 call... :P
Yeah they did. Gotta respect Soscia's (sp?) comments afterwards though. Instead of blaming the umps for a terrible call he simply said that they didn't play well enough to win. And when asked against instant replay he said that he's still against it.
If that happened to Bowa....oh man, excuse central 101.
I'd like to think it was more of a great hustle by AJ Pierzynski. :D
They did not get screwed. Look at the replay. The ball hit the dirt first and then shot up into the catchers mitt.
The call was accurate even if the umpire wasn't decisive in his communication of it.
Also - the pitcher could have simply struck out the next batter, but instead, he allowed the pinch runner to steal second easily and then served up a meatball with the count at 0-2.
The Angels choked and the White Sox took advantage of an opportunity. End of story.

I haven't even seen it, yet somehow I agree!
the ball didn't hit the dirt, the guy caught it and his glove hit the ground.
that being said, the umpire made the out call, the play is dead right then. it's like when the refs blow a fumble dead because they are saying the guy is down.
Looked like he caught it to me but his glove hit the dirt. However.....
1. Josh Paul should've tagged him anyways or thrown to 1st as Pierzynski started running instead of tossing the ball to the mound. You see catchers tag or throw down to 1st even when they catch it a lot of times to be safe or to erase any doubt if the ball was close to the dirt.
2. Sciosca said they shouldn't have needed that call. He said they played poorly so that call doesn't make a difference. Granted he is pissed, but he's not using it as a crutch, which I like.

i totally agree. i was a catcher for 15 years and i made that mistake once, and only once. after that, everybody got tagged if my glove was even close to the ground.
can we all agree that the rule itself is the dumbest in the history of sports

QuoteFox Cancels ALCS After Just Two Episodes
October 13, 2005 | Onion Sports
LOS ANGELES—Fox Entertainment president Gail Berman announced Thursday that the network is pulling the plug on ALCS, the new three-hour drama/comedy about two rival clubs competing for the coveted "pennant," just two shows into its run. "This uninspired series featured a cast of uninteresting characters, a hackneyed plot, and more boring narration than actual meaningful dialogue," Berman said. "We tried to find an audience on Tuesdays, then on Wednesdays, and we were prepared to move its time slot to Friday nights or Saturday afternoons before ultimately realizing that the series had zero potential." Television experts cited several other possible reasons for the early cancellation, such as the overly expensive sets and costumes, the show's subject matter, and the fact that the series' projected breakout character—a brash, outspoken black man named Carl Everett—tested very poorly with audiences. Fox remains optimistic about its other fledgling program, NLCS, but critics say the series has "very little chance" of making it past seven episodes.
Good God. Look at the replay, please.
The ball is going towards the ground and then just as ball approaches the mitt, it does a sudden upward movement.
That's the ball hitting the dirt, ladies. It was a trap and it's as clear as a bell, especially if you've ever played the position. I knew it as soon as I saw it.
Also - the catcher screwed up. Whether he caught it or not, he shouldn't have tossed the ball away immediately. He should have turned to the batter and tagged him just to be sure. Either that, or he should have thrown the ball to first to be certain of getting the out.
i dunno, didnt look like it was a trap to me.

I hate the Angels. I'm pulling for the White Sox and/or anyone playing against them. Screw the O.C. :boom
i thought it was a catch as well...i dont see how one could say its conclusive either way
again tho thats irrelevant...the rule itself shouldnt exist and if it didnt we wouldn be having this stupid discussion
Bottom line is, whether he caught it or not, he should have tagged the runner or thrown it to first. Also, Scoscia (who I think is an excellent, classy manager) has to be questioned for putting his third string catcher in in the bottom of the ninth in the ALCS.

Both LaRussa and Edmonds were ejected for arguing balls and strikes in separate incidents.
Stupid Rolen will never get his ring. Even when he doesn't contribute. Good.
Is it just me or do Tony Larussa and Brian Billick look like they were seperated at birth? Lord knows their both arrogant enough to be from the same gene pool.

ChiSox are in and Houston is only 1 game away. I was kind of hoping that St Louis would get there simply because Clemens is the only guy on the Stros that I really give a crap about and he's already got some rings. But I really like Poohols and Edmonds. And since Rolen is hurt and not playing, it makes it a little easier to root for them.
Either way, Phils in 06 bitch!
I hate the Cardinals. I want them to suffer for having Scotty The Whiner on their roster. And I hate Edmonds too. I'm convinced that he purposely slows up on balls in the gap or deep so he has to dive for them and make the tough catch. Drama queen Jimmy.
But I also dislike the Astros too.

This lifelong fan of the Redbirds is mighty disgusted right now. This team has roared through the regular season two years in a row, but hasn't been able to get the job done, and I have to join the chorus that is critical of Tony LaRussa. The front office has certainly done its part to put together a solid team, but I've been reading consistently that LaRussa failed to rest key players down the stretch and now they are going all too quietly in the post-season. For this team to not make the World Series is an absolute disgrace. No disrespect to the Astros, but player for player, they are not as good as the Cardinals. And pitching? For crying out loud, this was the one area that was supposedly improved since last season. And look at the scores - the pitching has been there. The Cards have hurt themselves both at bat and in the field, and that is inexcusable, because those were the strengths all season long - yes, even without Scott Rolen at third base.
I really should wait until the NLCS is over, because hey, the Cards could yet pull it out, but right now I'm ready to see an end to the Tony LaRussa era in St. Louis.
get ready for a World Series with all 1-0 games
I just want another Wild Card team to win the Series.
Any chance to stick it to so-called "purists" is a pure delight to me.
