Title: Fantasy Baseball
Post by: hbionic on March 26, 2015, 01:27:54 PM
...uh...so what do I do?

My neighbor asked me to sign up for fantasy baseball, and I do what everyone asks of me, no limits.

What should I draft? I think there's like 15-20 heads in the league. Pitchers only? Any positions to avoid? Help!

Draft Ryan Howard with your first pick, he's going to have a monster season. If you don't believe me PM Phreak.

I joined my first one...17 teams, weekly head to head.

I got farged by the auto pick...My first pick was King Felix, then Strasburg, and I was in line to draft Wainwright but didn't realize what happened until three picks later....anyway...ended up with Matt Cain, Jake Peavy, Craig Krimbrell, Danny Duffy, Trevor Bauer, and Jason Vargas. Got Alex Cobb as an auto pick and just got Tyson Ross.

C- Saltalamacchia
1b- Joey Votto
2b- Howie Kendrick
3b- Evan Langoria
SS- Alcides Escobar
OF- Joc Pederson
OF- Carlos Beltran
OF- Torii Hunter
UTIL- Nolan Arenado (auto picked instead of Wainwright)
Bench- Desmond Jennings
Bench- James Loney

MDS, please tell me I have a chance? And who the farg is Nolan Arenado????    :boom

(Obviously I haven't been following baseball closely the last few seasons).

He's the Rockies 3B and I wanted to draft him but some slappy stole him before I could.

I did get Jimmmmmaaaay though.

i followed my strategy of the past few years to load up on bats and find pitching as the year goes on.  i don't love my team but i did literally zero research so whatever

I have my 10 team keeper league auction tomorrow. Pretty happy with my keepers going into the draft, and their prices...

Kyle Seager  $7
Starling Marte $7
George Springer $6
Kole Calhoun $2
Gregory Polanco $2

Johnny Cueto $17
Alex Wood $11
Alex Cobb $9
Andrew Cashner $7
Michael Wacha $7
Michael Pineda $4
Jose Quintana $6

Got $175 to spend and 13 roster spots to fill. In position to draft Trout if I want to. Right now am willing to go up to $65 to do it, but I'll see how the bidding shakes out.

I have nothing to base it on whether that's good or bad (given the amount of players and teams in MLB)....but I admit its a bit much which waters it down a bit which I assume gives me a better chance of winning...if at all possible. Anyways, it's only $20 to get my feet wet, so why not.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball
Post by: MDS on April 04, 2015, 02:34:00 PM
thats not bad for 17 teams.....though when you have that many players and such a watered down FA pool, it becomes super random

10-12 is the ideal # for FB

Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball
Post by: hbionic on April 07, 2015, 02:08:11 PM
Funny part is, because of my baseball card collection growing up...baseball and stats were imbedding in us, or at least me. I used to watch complete baseball games all the time. Mostly Dodgers, but I'd watch some angels, and whatever was broadcasting locally (pre-cable days). That's why personally, I don't care too much about baseball outside the region/state...but I'll remember some off the wall baseball shtein from 20-25 years ago.

Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball
Post by: PhillyPhreak54 on April 07, 2015, 02:14:27 PM
Same here - I have about 50k cards from my collecting hey day. They're holed away at my mom's place. But I haven't really bought any since 1996ish.

The baseball card stats aren't what mds and people of his ilk like nowadays though. If they had their way cards would look like farging calculus equations on the back.

Hundley
Chirinos
Rosario
Flowers

Those are the four best on there. The Rockies will probably platoon or play Rosario in other positions

Not a whole lot of good options. But keep an eye on those and grab the best of the four after a week or two

i realized that fantasy baseball was pretty much the only reason i paid attention to mlb the last 5 years. i'm not playing this year and there's a good chance i don't watch a single second on tv this year. i will go to some to drink though.

can anybody else not make a move while games are in progress?

ive been trying to get rid of diekman forever and every time i go do it says i cant because hes playing.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball
Post by: ice grillin you on April 29, 2015, 07:09:59 AM
I think that happened to me earlier in the year....I remember correctly while the players actual game in going on you can't do anything with him

I think it's like this cause in baseball you can pick up someone and play them the same day...whereas basketball for example if you pick a guy up Tuesday he won't be in your lineup until wed
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball
Post by: PhillyPhreak54 on April 29, 2015, 01:04:11 PM
Correct - if the player is in your lineup and the games are still ongoing you cannot drop. If he is on your bench then you can drop at any time
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball

im not trying to drop diekman for tuesday....its all for wednesday. why do i have to wait.

I like it being available on same day because sometimes by the time I am able to log on its too late to make any changes.

I picked up Luis Garcia - Diekman can go farg himself with a corn stalk

Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball
Post by: Munson on April 02, 2016, 11:59:44 PM
This is how my team ended up today. K's for the keepers.

C-Devin Mesoraco $2
1B-Chris Davis $28 (K)
2B-Rougned Odor $6 (K)
3B-Kyle Seager $8 (K)
SS-Xander Beogarts $5 (K)
IF-Corey Seager $6 (K)
OF-Andrew McCutchen $46
OF-George Springer $7 (K)
OF-Kole Calhoun $3 (K)
OF-Joc Pederson $7 (K)
UTIL-Evan Longoria $6

P-Chris Archer $9 (K)
P-Carlos Rodon $6 (K)
P-Aaron Nola $6 (K)
P-Stephen Strasburg $37
P-Drew Smiley $13
P-Jeff Samardjzia $7
P-Jose Quintana $6
P-Michael Pineda $4
P-Jeremey Jefferies $10

Bench-Billy Burns $5
Bench-Brett Lawrie $6
Bench-Michael Conforto $2
Bench-Javier Baez $1 (gonna stash him on the DL and pick someone up)
N/A-Joey Gallo $2 (K)

Overall pretty happy with the team, but left too much money on the table. Didn't end up with guys I thought I would. I'm not big on Longoria or Samardjzia but at those prices it was whatever. Didn't plan on spending that much on Strasburg either, but the elite pitchers were all gone and they all went for big money as well.

Gonna be scouring the waiver wire for saves as I always do.

I want to start a Rona League - I actually like rotisserie better then head to head but I'm down with whatever.  I have never wanted to look at box scores more than right now.

What do most people like, rotisserie or head to head?

Dads been in the same fantasy baseball league for almost 20 years...there was an opening so I got in. Anyone else do fantasy baseball? Best guesses are Todd and maybe Jay. Had #2 overall..took Judge. Trea went #1 overall.

I haven't played one in a couple years. I wanted to get back into one this season but time slipped by too fast.

Next year I'll def be in for one though

I've been doing a keeper league with my buddies from hs for years now. I still don't think I'm very good at it haha. We do daily lineups and transactions, so it's a monster. I have won the league twice, including once before it was a keeper. I also did my first NFBC last year and did alright, did the best ball cutline league and made the first cut in it

It's a daily waiver deal...I'm still trying to figure everything out. For your starting pitchers do you constantly swap your bench pitchers out for other teams starters? For instance I have 4 pitchers on my bench...some of them I don't mind parting with...if say a lesser teams 3/4/5 is starting are you constantly trying to fill that pitching spot to build stats or do you just stick with what you have? For pitchers the 3 stats are walks + hits/inning, era, strikeouts. The other are for saves/holds. I get shteintier pitchers will drop era and whip but they'll add strikeouts.

is it roto or h2h? if h2h its more matchup oriented...like if youre behind in starts its not wrong to be aggressive and catch up with streams or a double starter. if its roto its more about the macro so you wouldnt be doing much of that.

ive been in the same league for 10 years. keepers, fairly competitive. 4 3rd place finishes and last year a 4th. i am the absolute master of pooping my pants in the semifinals. im pretty consistently good just that 1 week my team collapses.

if you do keepers, id recommend walker buehler. might be back late in the year but hes an ace pitcher for cheap in 24 if you can stash

H2h...forgot to add wins/QS as a pitching stat. The projections and scoring grid finally showed up in cbs app so it's starting to make a bit more sense.

if there are no transactions limits then as long as youre down late in the week yea go for it and stack starters to try and catch up

most leagues have some kind of limit to protect extreme streaming

No transaction limits and that's good advice and makes the most sense. Guess I'll figure this all out as I go along. 12 team league here's what I'm working with:

C - Alejandro Kirk
1B - CJ Cron
2B - Tommy Edman
3B - Nolan Arenado
SS - Dansby Swanson
OF - Aaron Judge
OF - MJ Melendez (also Catcher eligible)
OF - Michael Harris (only NL East player)
DH - Rowdy Tellez
DH - Jonathan India
Bench: Cody Bellinger/Jurickson Profar (might drop)
Injured: Mitch Haniger

SP - Corbin Burnes
SP - Lance Lynn
SP - Alex Cobb
SP - Lucas Giolito
SP - Freddy Peralta
RP - Emmanuel Chase
RP - Felix Bautista

Bench pitchers:
Corey Kluber
Michael Wacha
Roansy Contreras
Daniel Bard

Inured Pitchers:
Carlos Rodon
Tony Gonsolin

Won this shtein ($950). Had some good pickups along the way (Gunnar Henderson, Masataka Yoshida)...few others I can't remember. Fantasy baseball is a lot of work but I'm in again for next season.
