Title: 2015 Fantasy Football - OMG your big league
Post by: SunMo on August 30, 2015, 11:01:40 AM
had my draft at Igy's yesterday and went all in on the zero rb strategy.  I had the 7th pick out of 10

my roster looks like this

QB - Matt Ryan
RB - Frank Gore, Mark Ingram, CJ Spiller, Latavious Murray, Rashad Jennings, Dan Herron
WR - Antonio Brown, Demaryious Thomas, Jordan Mathews, Jon Brown
TE - Jason Witten

I would have preferred another tight end but i'll end up streaming them this year.  overall i'm happy with the results which means my team will be terrible.

You're going to be spending a lot of time rooting for Matt Ryan this year.

Matt Ryan may die behind that OL this year.

How many Eagles did igy draft?

have a question for everyone

there was quite the heated debate yesterday regarding our leagues waiver rules....the way it works is reverse order of standings....a few people in the league hate that and want it to do what yahoo does and have it be ordered by who last picked up a FA

opinions?

I like the Yahoo way better. Every league I'm in does it the other way but to me its unfair just because your team blows you have to miss out on other players.
Title: Re: 2015 Fantasy Football - OMG your big league
Post by: ice grillin you on August 30, 2015, 01:34:16 PM
that was pretty much the point of view from the other side...that it rewards bad teams.....my argument is that for competitive balance purposes it does the league better to have as many good teams as possible

we also have a 50 dollar last place penalty so it means something to not finish last in our league

I like the yahoo way because it gives everyone a legit shot to pick players up. Sure a team could suck because they got hit with injuries but most of the time they suck because of poor drafting. So having a waiver system based on record rewards a sorry drafting owner for being lousy.

The yahoo system also forces an owner to be sure about their claims. If you're holding the one spot do you really want to pick up that player and drop to 10th?

we dont have a league with any real idiots in it so no one doesnt know how to draft

your second point is interesting and not something anyone brought up yesterday...that definitely adds some strategy to the mix
Title: Re: 2015 Fantasy Football - OMG your big league
Post by: PhillyPhreak54 on August 30, 2015, 01:48:31 PM
Yeah it's some game within the game in serious leagues. If you're trying to hoard RBs and pick up a guy and drop from 1st to last because you scooped up the flavor of the week who ripped off 140yds and you're rolling with one QB who gets hurt then you've got to pick up someone like Brian Hoyer or Jay Cutler to be your starter...just bc you wanted that 5th RB
Title: Re: 2015 Fantasy Football - OMG your big league

you cant hoard players in our league....we dont have huge rosters and we also have defensive players

I agree with the no RBs strategy in theory especially in PPR leagues. Problem is late in the season when it comes to fantasy playoff time teams run the ball a lot more because of weather or whatever. I listen to the Sirius fantasy station and some guy broke down the stats how much more teams run the last few fantasy weeks than they do the rest of the season and the balance really shifts. Just something to keep in mind. I have two PPR drafts this upcoming weekend, I'll probably go BPA but I'll definitely hold higher value on WRs.

I'm in a 2 QB league, QBs get 6 pts per passing TD. It's .5 PPR. I had #1 overall pick, here's how I drafted:

Luck
Gronk
Forsett
D Hopkins
J Matthews
G Tate
D Martin
S Watkins
C Ivory
I Crowell
Allen Robinson
Alex Smith
Woodhead
Tre Mason
A Boldin
B Lafell
Panthers D
Blair Walsh Kicker

Strategy was to take Bridgewater later but someone took him early. So I waited on a few other QBs but one round they all went and when it snaked around there wasn't shtein left. I think Smith has a chance to be a top 20 QB this season. He had top 20 stats last season and it looks like he has good chemistry with Maclin already. Kelce is a top 5 TE and the kid Conly they drafted is a great athlete. He has a noodle arm but he's an accurate passer so I have my fingers crossed.

Had my first draft of the season last night. Also went "zero RB" more or less, but I'm not really happy with the depth I have there:

QB-Peyton Manning
RB-Latavius Murray (Keeper)
RB-Ameer Abdullah
WR-Dez Bryant
WR-A.J. Green
TE-Zach Ertz
W/R/T-T.Y. Hilton (keeper)

D/ST-Philadelphia
K-Mason Crosby

Bench-Phillip Rivers
Bench-Tre Mason
Bench-Ronnie Hillman
Bench-Josh Brown
Bench-Eddie Royal
Bench-Brandon Coleman

I prefer the Yahoo default because it discourages overuse of the waiver wire, like picking up a player just to prevent others having him.  That's a valid tactic, of course, but there are dudes who do this every week.  Especially dudes with bad teams, who are depsperate to a.) find a diamond and b.) block another team out.  And you can still do it by Yahoo rules, but there's a cost: when your backup QB goes down to injury that week, just before your starter's BYE, and you're at the end of the waiver line because you prevented another team from adding a guy you've now got on your bench, well you're farged and it was you who farged you.

In your case, Havas the penalty (and the alleged awesomeness of everyone involved) should be more than enough to keep the competition level.  Giving waiver wire advantage to poor performing teams isn't necessary.

Need a good name for one of my fantasy teams. I hate using football related stuff although Death Rowe works because of this place. I have names like Heisenberg, King of the North, Omar's Coming...shtein like that. I'm bored, any suggestions?

Had drafts the last two days, both are 6 pts. per passing TD. Noticed people are still stacking RBs, I have 2 #1 WRs in both leagues because they're .5 ppr and 1 pt ppr. RBs are a little thin but I think I can get by. Took a late round flier in both leagues on Todd Gurley. His stock really plummeted but I don't mind sitting on him for a month until he's ready to roll. Could be my ace in the hole.

I've been naming my teams based on crazy people or news at the time.....like Pill Cosby this year, Jerry's Kids when Sandusky was a thing, CharlieSheenWinning! when he had his meltdown, etc, etc.  I try to stay away from pop culture references, especially anything to do with Breaking Bad or The Wire.  Pretty sure our keeper league is the only league on the planet that doesn't reference at least 1 of those shows.

Also went with the zero rb strategy. Little surprised nobody else went WR/WR they stacked up on backs. Old train of thought in my opinion.

10 team PPR 6 pts per TD pass

QB Roethlisberger
RB Shady, Rashad Jennings, Gio Bernard, Todd Gurley, Denard Robinson
WR Julio Jones, Megatron, Jordan Matthews, Brandon Marshall, Martavias Bryant, Vincent Jackson, Devante Parker, Brashad Perriman

It's 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR/TE, 1 Flex WR/TE/RB

12 team .5 PPR 6 pts per TD pass
QB Matt Ryan
RB Lamar Miller, Joseph Randle, Todd Gurley, Devanta Freeman
WR Antonio Brown, AJ Green, Brandon Marshall, Devante Parker, Brashad Perriman, Brandon Coleman, Tyler Lockett
TE Greg Olsen, Antonio Gates (usually don't carry two TEs but he was there late and was bpa)

It's 1 QB 2 RB 3 WR 1 TE no Flex

Thanks and yeah I agree. I'm hoping Randle can do well for a month or so. Gurley is supposed to start playing by week 4. He's probably one of the top 10 most talented running backs in the world. Hopefully he gets a full workload at some point. In two of my other leagues I sat until the 6th or 7th round then picked up the likes of Doug Martin and Chris Ivory but people caught onto that with these drafts so I was stuck with what I got. I read up and work waivers pretty well so we'll see.

Dropped Gates, have Olsen so it's no big deal. Needed to get another RB in that league, dude hasn't accepted or denied my Marshall/Randle for Jaccpot/Martin deal yet.

Choices on waivers were the likes of Brandon Bolden, James White, Dion Lewis, Josh Robinson, Khiry Robinson, Theo Riddick, Christine Michael

Since I have Randle I went with Michael. Not looking for a one week guy so I stayed away from the Pats RBs. If it wasn't for Randle I would have went with Robinson because he's backing up Gore who's old as dirt. Contemplating dropping one of the my sleeper WRs (Coleman or Lockett) and picking him up.

Had my auction...didn't go as planned. I wanted to come out with at least one more high priced guy but the prices people were going for were just too much. I went in with a great crop of keepers, but still. Team is okay, way too many line up decisions I'm going to have to make every week though.

QB-Russell Wilson $8 (Keeper)
RB-Eddie Lacy $35 (Keeper)
RB-Latavius Murray $6 (Keeper)
WR-Antonio Brown $40 (keeper)
WR-Devante Adams $6 (keeper)
WR-Eddie Royal $7
TE-Martellus Bennett $2 (keeper)
W/R/T-Chris Ivory $16

Bench-Tom Brady $11
Bench-Ryan Matthews $7
Bench-Shane Vereen $4
Bench-DeSean Jackson $11
Bench-Brandon Marshall $10
Bench-Marques Colston $2
Bench-Jordy Nelson $19 (last pick, grabbed him for keeper purposes)

D-Philly
K-Josh Scobee

Gonna stash Jordy on IR and pick up Tyler Lockett.

The Browns said they weren't using Haden to shadow Marshall today but he would be covering him when he's on the outside. A lot of teams are moving their big receiver to the slot because of the mismatch it creates.

I picked up Hankerson in my 12 team league. He looked great last week, was targeted a bunch of times, and White is old. He's last guy on my bench so it's a whatever move that could pay off in deeper leagues.

Somehow in my other league I was 8th on waivers and got Matt Jones. Love what I see from him. I know he rotates with Morris but he's more talented. FYI the racists are the #1 running team in the NFL right now.

Set my lineup for me.  2 WR, 2 RB, 1 WR/RB:

WR - Brandon Marshall, Donte Moncreif, Sammy Watkins, Roddy White
RB - Demarco Murray, Shady, James Starks, David Johnson, Todd Gurley

I thinking Marshall/Watkins/Murray/Shady/Moncreif but I already had doubts about Murray and the Eagles line vs the Jets D and when you add the hammy strain to it, that makes him even less attractive of an option.

Word. I just noticed Carolina D sitting out there so I picked them up real quick. I've got StL but I think they'll struggle with Pit this week. Carolina gets to face Luke McCown. Seems like a favorable match up.
Title: Re: 2015 Fantasy Football - OMG your big league

Carolina d is legit I'd hang onto them for the rest of the season.

Here's my issue. Half ppr, do you start Crowell, Woodhead, or Ivory who might not play. Crowell has a favorable matchup against the raiders but he doesn't catch a lot of passes. Woodhead is getting the second most targets behind Allen and he's getting more carries then Gordon. So im leaning towards Woodhead.

Other league is also half ppr I need two of Freeman, Randle, Lamar Miller, or Gurley. I'm leaning Freemsn/Randle.

If you're wondering why my backs blow so bad my receivers are stacked

Still have Mcmanus and the GB D to go. It's 6 pts. per TD pass. No flex. 3-0.

PPR is the way to go, of course IGY doesn't like change.

Not a huge fan of 6 pt passing TD's but I get the logic behind it and my main league follows that.

It's only .5 ppr

The worst I'm doing in any of my 5 leagues is actually the political one on the EMB but there's no money involved so I don't give two shteins.

The problem with ppr is that catches count for more points than yards. Megatron could have 3 catches for 100 yds and that's good for 13 pts, but Danny Woodhead gets 8 catches for 60 yards and that's 14 points. In what world does that make sense?

I'm not a fan of ppr at all, but it seems to be a necessary evil these days. 1 ppr is ridiculous. .5 is ok, but I think ideally, if you're going to have ppr, .25 would be the way to go.

Somehow, despite the fact that my first 4 draft picks are Shady/Murray/Dez/Pimp, I am about to go to 3-1.  Actually, it's pretty obvious how I've won 3 games....my opponents have massively underachieved each week and my team has been scoring right around it's predicted total.  I've done half decent on the waiver wire too, picking up Donte Moncrief, David Johnson, Carolina D, and McManus.

Anyway... I'm up by a point and some change on my opponent this week and still have Russell Wilson and Ebron going tonight.  My opponent has no players left.  Would it be a fleshpop move for me to bench both players?  With my luck, Wilson will lose a fumble on the Seahawks 1st play of the game and get knocked out of the game, Ebron would get held to 0 catches, and I'd end up losing.  Smart tactic or full of douchebaggery?

Post by: rjs246 on October 05, 2015, 03:09:34 PM
I see no problem with benching them, but there are occasionally stat corrections after a week's games have completed. If you're only up by one there a tiny risk of being stat-corrected into a loss.
Title: Re: 2015 Fantasy Football - OMG your big league
Post by: Sgt PSN on October 05, 2015, 03:36:08 PM
I used to think that the time Dio lost to me a few years ago when Phillip Rivers lost a fumble in OT, turning his 1.something pt lead into a <1pt loss was the worst way to lose a game, but notching up a stat corrected loss would probably be the worst.

Dude had Brees and Ingram and I was up by 40+. I'm up by 10 when the Saints kicker missed the fg sending the game into ot. Wound up losing by a point. To make matters worse I wound up with the second highest points despite having to replace an injured Luck and having Gronk on a bye.

I am a pro at having a great week...only to have some other team haul off and rip off an even better one.

Of our ten teams three are over 100....one dude is winning 103-47 or something like that

And I was up 132-85 before Cam and Olsen went off. Now I'm clinging to a 132-123 lead and he's got the Pats defense. I need a shootout tonight both to help me here and in FD

This ended up being a total wash as both defenses only put up 4 points.  Meh.

This week's defensive question:

I've still got Carolina, and depending on which Eagles offense/Sam Bradford shows up, I think this is a feast or famine match up.  The could put 20+ on the board or lay an egg.  Available in my league are Miami (vs Houston) or Atlanta (vs Tennessee).  Miami seems to be revitalized and Atlanta has a nice looking matchup against a gimpy MM.

Stick with Carolina or go with one of the other 2?

Also, any reason I should not start Dez today?  I can swap him out with Moncreif, but I'm not crazy about that matchup, especially with Luck's injuries.

I have the exact same dilemma, I'm going with Bortles. I hate thursday night games too but Ryan has been off and on and Bortles is fairly consistent. Every time I've chosen Ryan Bortles has outscored him so I'm sticking with Bortles until he lets me down.

WR - Dez, Marshall, Pimp, Diggs, Watkins
RB - Shady, West, D. Murray, Gurley

I'm def playing Gurley, West, and Dez.  Trying to pick a 2nd WR and a flex.

Also thinking about C. West over Gurley. Gurley is a beast, but he's been held in check the last 3 weeks and faces Arz. West might be splitting carries, but gets to face a weak Oakland defense.

My opponent still has Brees and Megatron, I have Hightower. Guess it's possible for me to win if Hightower goes nuts on the ground, while brees and Johnson both struggle, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

Start 2 in non-PPR:

Maclin vs CLE
Baldwin vs STL
Julio Jones vs CAR

Maclin has been having some pretty good games and the Browns D sucks.
Baldwin has been benefiting from Russell Wilson's hot streak, but STL is pretty good against the pass.
Julio Jones hasn't been getting in the end zone

Randall Cobb @ AZ - No

In 3 leagues (not counting CF). So far I've won two.

League 1 payout is $1100
League 2 payout is $150 for highest points, $100 for finishing with the highest seed, $50 for winning a playoff game (I had a 1st round bye too) and $600 for winning.

League 3 dude started Cousins and Jordan Reed meaning I woke up this morning down 70 points. I completely gave up after the 1 o'clock games because I was down by 80. Just looked I'm down 20, I have AJ Green he has the Denver D. Stranger things have happened but I'm not counting on winning. Still, I get $100 for highest points and $300 for finishing second.

So for now I've won $2400.

I assume you mean the league rules

qb
rb
rb
wr
wr
wr
te

k

dl
dl
lb
lb
db
db

(6) bench

these are the defensive stats....im not 100% sure but i think our offensive stats are more or less in line with other leagues...theres no special offensive numbers for yard totals or long td's etc...it is a 1 ppr league

tackles - .5
sack - 4
int - 4
ff - 2
fr - 2
def td - 6
safety - 2
pd - 2

two (5) team divisions - (250.00 to each division winner, 1000.00 sb winner, 50.00 last place penalty paid to the highest finisher who didnt win a division or the sb

I think that about covers it

QB-Tom Brady $13 (K)
RB-Eddie Lacy $38
RB-Latavius Murray $7 (K)
WR-Antonio Brown $44 (K)
WR-Brandon Marshall $11 (K)
WR-Marvin Jones $25
TE-Martellus Bennett $3 (K)
W/R/T-Larry Fitzgerald $11

Bench-Tyrod Taylor $1
Bench-Ryan Matthews $6
Bench-Chris Ivory $2
Bench-Jordan Matthews $11
Bench-Tyler Lockett $6 (K)
Bench-Chris Hogan $1
Bench-Zach Ertz $8

Not happy with how many Eagles I ended up with, but those were pretty good prices for all 3 of them really.

PPR, but still have way too many WR's. Going to drive myself crazy trying to figure out who to start every week.

Those are all really juicy matchups.  I guess I'd sit Thomas too, just because his QB is so young, but it's not like he isn't pointing points on the board though.

Outside of a really shteiny weather forecast for one of those games I really don't think it matters who you go with.
