Don't know where to start
Well at least he had the best highlight video of the draft.

Finally Peters replacement! Actually I don't mind the flyer, if they could have found a way to hold on to Al Villanueva they'd already be set with the bookends of the future.

His rugby highlight reel is pretty entertaining, actually.

I wanna see a throw to him in space on a tackle eligible play near the goal line. Who the hell is gonna get in his way.
As someone who played rugby I can attest to how difficult it would be to bring down that dude. Holy moley he trucked some little Aussies. Lol.
I love the pick. A year on the practice squad and they might have something special.

Why throw it...run him in William Refrigerator Perry style
Rugby > lacrosse
Did Rome-bo's incessant bragging about how he used to be sofa king good at use-your-hands-soccer make anybody else envision the 1920's black and white flickering filmed footages of his matches?

I believe that was the first time I ever mentioned me playing rugby here. And I was pretty bad at it.

so you suck at sucky non-American sports too ?
I'm pretty good at golf. That's unamerican, right DIO?
A massive waste of land and water for rich people to farg around on for a couple hours is the most American thing ever.
YES!!
Anyway, back to the Maori Freak, it will be fun watching this guy develop. Probably has more upside than the Fireman did.
Was watching some mini camp highlights, looked like he lined up at TE a few plays but blocked instead of going out for passing.
Baldy has a stiffy for Mailata

Bye bye Vaitai
He's right. You can't teach talent or athleticism. Dude is s monster. He'd get eaten alive by a legit defensive end right now but he's got more potential than any other lineman they have.
Tra Thomas is on board the Mailata train.

Violent hands works for me.
Look at this dudes wing span when he takes his first drop step. Good God!
That's all well and good...but I still want to see them toss him the ball on a goal line play.
You and literally everyone else who knows the name Jordan Mailata
not me....the last thing i want is real nfl players knee and head hunting him because hes a rugby player trying to get into their club and the eagles are using him to show them up
just use this season to learn how to play OT....i get the fun aspect of seeing him try it but he needs every practice rep that exists and it would be stupid to risk injury for him in such an important year...he should have one job and one job only this season...learn how to play football
be freakishly strong. heys guys i think he's got football down already.
oh and stand for the national anthem.
"Ko e fasi 'o e tu'i 'o e 'Otu Tonga"

this guys needs his thread upped anyway as he is easily the most exciting thing about this upcoming season but this is also pretty good

First start of his career, plays better than anyone could reasonably hope. Three years ago, had never touched an American football. Now, he's at worst as serviceable back up LT in the NFL. That's just nuts.
I'm gonna enjoy reading all week about Mailata's development. What a coup for the Eagles to have turned an absolute neophyte into, at worst, a reserve NFL LT / Trade bait.
https://twitter.com/patdjordjevic/status/1312920706313641984
He played better last night than anyone should have expected. Shame our team's collective ligaments are made out of brittle, crusty old rubberbands.
Baldinger pretty pleased, too
https://twitter.com/BaldyNFL/status/1313154482373623810
Pretty damn impressive. Sink or swim with this guy the rest of the year, JP needs to call it quits as he really doesn't want to be playing football anymore.
if he plays just regular zesty this week not Winston justice zesty he should be proud...this one has Washington football team ugly written all over it for the OL and especially this guy
They've got tape of his first start to look at so you have to think they've identified his weaknesses.
This year's Eagles are a bad team in a really boring way. At least this guy is interesting and has an upside. I'm glad he's out there and interested to see what he build from what he did last week, which was impressive.
It's already a pretty stunning success. At 23 years old, with the performance and promise he's demonstrated already..at the least, he's tradeable for far, far more value than the draft capital invested in him. Only question now is whether he's good enough to be too valuable to trade.
Meh, I'd prefer he be too good to trade. I mean, I've seen what the Eagles do with draft picks.
They could definitely get Golden Tate out of that pick, though.

Time to buy your second Eagles jersey to replace the David Akers...
I didn't buy that one, it was a corporate freebee. I did buy one Eagles jersey, a Tim Hauck replica.
I sent the Akers jersey to T-Hawk one year so he could rep midnight green at a game, and I sent the Hauck jersey as a gift to a guy I met when I visited Serbia. What a farging strange time, reading and posting to :CF while on vacation in Serbia. That was a great trip.
I haven't spent a single dime on Eagles merch since that Hauck jersey.
Hopefully the Serbian dude read up on Hauck and is over there tackling huge concrete blocks to mimic Hauck.
He's really hit or miss. There's times he just completely dominated and took the defender out of the play, then there's times he looks lost trying to figure out the rushing schemes. He's definitely got it he just needs to refine his craft. I'm more encouraged by what I saw from him this season than what I saw from Dillard last year although in fairness Dillard didn't get consistent reps and was lined up on the right side which he's not used to.

So...what to do with Dillard?
If the team is willing to force Wentz to earn his job back after they've committed to him contractually, it's a million times easier for them to ask the same of Dillard. Play the best guy, keep the other as depth unless he can learn to play at a starting level out of position.
Rare roster spot where at least theoretically the Eagles have multiple assets. [And Dillard may suck but imho we haven't seen enough of him at LT to write him off.]
keeping dillard and mailata are no brainers
one can be moved to guard or RT. seamalu could take over center.
i think dillard can play in the nfl, at some level, it just depends on how big of a puss he is. seems like he doesnt love football and isnt maniacal about crushing people. if thats the case hell be out the league like the fireman
center is going to be an issue. Kelce has been off all year.
It's hard to stay on your game when the guy behind you won't stop crying and praying to Jesus.

im not even saying hes played bad but hes had one foot for out the retirement door for three offseasons now...center would be an issue cause hes not going to be on the team not because hes going to be zesty...
but it shouldnt really be an issue anyway...its such an easy position to fill in todays nfl...
theres maybe one or two great ones each season one or two zesty ones and 30 perfectly fine ones...protect your edges is all that really matters these days

JP needs to pull a dez and say farg this shtein. It was painful watching him at rg. He's barely functional at lt as it is. There's going to be some drastic cuts this offseason...thank god they didn't pay ertz...thanks for the sb have fun in Indy
If there's one thing from the Andy/Banner years I miss, it's the team knowing when to let aging players go. Also an amazing screen game. Two things.

tbf to them they did walk away from JP and only came crawling back when brooks and dillard got hurt. and of course they didnt need him...herbig and mailata are better and they had those guys in the building for over a year and didnt seem to know that.
they should just eat it all now and move on from lane, kelce, brooks. rip the band aid off. theyre gonna suck next year with or without them.

Second that! Lane is quickly turning into the next JP, Kelce really want to be here?, Brooks is broken, Move on to Mailata, Herbig, Driscoll, move Seamalu to C and pray Dillard can get it together. And as Todd mentioned earlier, getting the "fireman" vibe from Dillard.
A agree with lil guy on Dillard.

This guy is the story of the season.
Dio's Mailata love >>>> My Trotter love
what's crazy is how badly the training camp reports brutalized him
Yep - I sure though he was gone after this season based on those.
But it goes to show sometimes its game reps where guys make or break themselves.
which makes them shoving Jason peters down everyone throat look even worse

Dio's Mailata love >>>> My Trotter love
Guilty as charged.
Truly though...can you think of a more improbable story? It's amazing.
I feel like it's good karma payback for ally villanueva and I never feel like that about any of my teams
The real crime is them not trying him at TE or as a goal line runner, but I guess having a left tackle that might hold his spot for a decade could be nice instead.
My thoughts regarding Mailata and luck run darker: I feel like any day now I'm gonna open :CF in the morning to learn he was killed overnight by a drunk driver.
It's just too good to be true.
I want him to return a punt.
What I want to see is ten years of Eagles halfbacks sailing through gaping canyons plowed clear by Mailata knocking down men who are not accustomed to being bullied around, and a generation of DEs and OLBs frustrated by snap after snap of facing a monster who swallows them up and smothers them all game long.
I don't need to see him with the ball.
Is this legal play?
https://twitter.com/BrendenDeegNFP/status/1343357992222257153
seems really tame for a football play....in fact it appears that smith goes out of his way to turn so that his shoulder leads and not his helmet
I'd say it's illegal but dirty implies intent that might not have been there. Looks like he was bracing for a trucking that never came. Also just a bad play by both Smith (makes no attempt at Sanders) and Mailata (should have run through Smith instead of that stutter step). Also Pryor (egregious hold).
What do you think are the chances this play results in a fine for Smith?
He's got a better shot at being fined for his socks being at the incorrect height.
minimal...it only exists because mailata got hurt...also it was such a non descript play i imagine the eagles would have to have sent film to the league and complained about the shot and/or asked for a ruling on a fine
have they done that or is this beef just a guy on twitter who noticed it?...like is this a thing
I don't know the rules well enough to guess what will happen but I def. don't see Smith trying to lead with the shoulder. I see a head shot, which I think is illegal. Whether it's dirty, that's a whole nother level of "I don't know," because I can't see intent, and it's close enough to a football move that I'm not gonna judge. It's not like he stomped on a down man's uncovered head or anything.

No idea. I saw it and wanted to ask my football buddies on the fan site we use what they think.
I think he should be fined and since the refs like to call using the helmet to initiate contact it should have been flagged too.
its absolutely was not helmet to helmet...forward to the contact and pause...the crown of smiths helmet is almost facing the near sideline...it was a partial hit to the head but it was with the shoulder and smith goes out of way to make sure of that
If it's on one of half the starting quarterbacks that's actually good and also still healthy, they'd probably throw a flag. For a lineman, that's just another Sunday.
Think there's close to zero chance of a fine. Remember that Clowney was never fined for that Wentz hit. How often do you even see flags when a lineman and linebacker collide?
Wait! This is wrong, correct? The Eagles ran the ball in the second half?
Which reminds me - of all the positions people here have mentioned they'd like to see Mailata, I think he'd provide the biggest upgrade at play caller.
