Just wait until your Vaio starts crapping out because of a farged up memory card slot. That's tons of fun. :P
I get the feeling that if PG happened to own the one Yugo that wasn't a lemon, she'd swear up and down that Yugos were the best cars around.

My Dell sucked ass, it crashed every day and overheated constantly. I got the Vaio after weeks of researching it and I have been extremely happy with it since I got it.
Vaio's are great except for the little memory issue (what caused my laptop crashes) which is a factory defect. It comes and goes at random and it can be fixed (but Sony won't do it unless it's under warranty) but other than that, Vaio's are great computers. Expensive, but worth the money.

It's a notebook issue... let me see if I can find the thread about it....
Here you go... (http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/topic/5449/?o=680) It's 45 pages long but well worth taking the time to scan through.
You
might not experience any problems at any point, but just so you're aware if you start having boot issues before too long... it's a common issue that is fixable.
I have a VGN-S150 and I have never had any issues whatsoever.
Yeah, I had mine for two years without any problems as well... then all at once the booting problems started up resulting in me having to reformat the entire thing back to factory settings to get it to even boot. Now, since I have the desktop, I don't use it often enough to know if the boot issues are entirely fixed, but regardless when I can I'm going to have it checked out for that memory slot issue.

Well, I have the Best Buy 3 year plan on it, so that should help....I hope it doesn't become a problem, but oh well.
Laptops are inherently problematic as a whole, really. If yours holds up for a while, it's a good one.

TE, did you get the "blue screen of death" (my Tech's term for it) when the system crashed, along with a message that it was dumping the physical memory.
If so, maybe I'm looking at the wrong problem area. I was convinced that it was my hard drive with an overheating issue.

Yep! That's the one - I finally got the message to hang around for more then a tenth of a second so I could read it.
Apparently the memory stick can slip out of the slot on the mother board because of how it was designed/ built. Sometimes putting the stick in another slot fixes it, but not always.
I think around page 35 or so of that discussion thread I linked to there's a post about someone that fixes the issue in the Vaios. It has the email and phone number if you want to ask him about it. I think I have his site bookmarked...
This should be it: http://www.laptopbios.com/
My Vaio Desktop has been out of action since january. The screen smears each time the mouse moves. At first i was convinced it was my video card but now i'm thinking memory problem. I got so tired of tryin to fix it that we just upgraded to a new computer now the Vaio is collecting dust

Sort of. When I leave the board and then try and come back on it takes forever and a day. But then once I'm on, then everything's moving just fine. No problems going from thread to thread or posting. Just getting to the board itself.
No troubles today.
THe board takes about 45 seconds to load when I come to it from another site or just loading up the browser. Similar to the issue that Sarge is having. :boo

I set up a temporary work-around. The upside is that it works...and the downside is that it severely limits the number of posts you can see on a page. This will at least keep us going until we can resolve the real problem at hand.
Much better. Thanks Sus.
Hey, it's working again!
(For what it's worth, I couldn't get any threads to come up at all. Everything work except the actual post pages- those came up blank.)
I still can't reply to a lot of topics (The rest of the NBA being one of them)
I turned it back to 5 posts per page. Any better?
When you say you can't reply, is it because the reply button isn't appearing?
The "reply" button is missing for me. But my "quick reply" feature works again.

No I see the reply button, I just get a blank page after waiting like 2 minutes. Its only happening on a few threads.
Okay...well, I'm not sure what to do then. Strange how it's working for some and not for others. I'll keep poking around to see if I can see anything obvious.
I also still get that forbidden thing.

Whew! I thought it was just me and Romey having the problem. I haven't been able to reply to anything in the last two days and like PG would get a blank page after a few minutes of waiting for certain threads to open up. Some would open, maybe one or two, but most of the time I would get that blank screen.
I see the reply button and can reply(I think - we'll see if this one goes through).
Yeah... I get the blank page too. Mostly when I'm trying to reply in the "random musings" thread.

Welcome to the new server, everyone. We should have the regular address back by tomorrow. Please try not to break anything this time.
Also, I'd like to draw your attention to the front page. It's working again, but still needs to be cleaned up. We should be back to doing zesty articles very soon. :yay

when i dont know the real cause, I blame it on a bandwidth issue. Yes, its a bandwidth problem.

It's amazing how we can run out of bandwidth with the same traffic after just a week.
though I was highly kidding, its not about the traffic coming in on a daily basis. Im talking about when your computer/server is running slow, alot of times you need to clean it out (cookies, temp files, etc) to make it run faster. worked plenty of times when I called Gateway
.....but then again I have no idea. Keep up the good work

This server up-and-down nonsense is getting ridiculous. How much does a decent hosting company cost? More importantly, how much does the current zesty hosting company cost, and what's the difference in price?
I'll bet you could easily raise enough money to make up the difference between the zesty host and the reliable one if you'd just lay it out there and ask.
I'd be more than happy to donate tree fitty to the cause if it will help make the board run more smoothly.

Ok, time to show how I earned this score... (http://www.concretefield.com/forum/index.php?topic=18732.msg436872#msg436872)
Domain is registered with NSI (http://www.nsi.com), but it is hosted at DreamHost (http://www.dreamhost.com/shared/). (I would have used the DNS servers at NSI, but the problems haven't been lookup related, so no big deal). I can't say for sure, but I'm guessing they are springing for the $7.95/mo service, perhaps $15.95/mo if they are running close to the bandwidth cap.
The big question is, what is causing the crash? Is it the CF code, or someone else's code running on the same server? If it is the latter, you need to switch providers to someone who keeps tighter reign on the shared servers. If it is the former...well, bad web geek...no cookie.
You may want to look at 1and1 (//http://). Prices are about the same, and they are located in NY. We had a dedicated server with them at my last job - no problems.

QuoteError establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at mysql.concretefield.info. This could mean your host's database server is down.
Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running?
If you're unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.
That message indicates the site is online, but the DB server is either offline or has a config issue.
So, it might not have been DreamHost's issue yesterday, briefly.

Drunken late night posting rulez.
What's worse was I was altering my FFL draft board also. At 3:30am.
Did anyone else have trouble logging on the board yesterday? I kept getting some message that said "Invalid Server Request" or some crazy shtein like that. ???
Yes, I actually was trying to post this:
QuoteAnyone else getting this issue? When I try to connect to the board via concretefield.com, I simply get a white screen with that message: "Invalid request variable." However, if I manually change the links to concretefield.info, everything works. Of course, every link on the forum is .com, so it's tricky to read and post. It was happening to me all day yesterday, and I assumed a DNS issue... but it's still happening today, and I'm able to get to concretefield.com, just not the message board.
P.S. I have tried both IE and Firefox. Same shtein.
I did some Google searching, and it was actually a "corrupt" cookie problem. I deleted my cookies, logged in, and everything's been ok since.

Feel free to give DreamHost a piece of your mind. Their first priority is customer service.
Well, it might not be first, but it's way up there compared to actually providing reliable hosting.

I'm grouchy because those pencil pushing, farging french iceholes in Finance can't figure out how to run VF04 for ZG2, ZL2, and ZRE billing doc types, causing our customers to freak out and bombard us with irate calls "WHY DON'T I HAVE THE CREDIT I WAS GRANTED THREE WEEKS AGO???"
$750k worth of billing corrections just sitting out there because they don't think credit and debit note creation falls under their purview.
The "kill yourself" retort was fresh tho..
Whatever incompetence you're dealing with is nothing compared to that displayed by DreamHost.
Yeah well, I'm actually dealing with French finance people. Not just calling them bad names. They're from France. fargers.
I don't know why you'd hate on France. They hate Americans only slightly less than you do.
I'm an equal opportunity hater. Just because the French rightly despise American foreign policy and culture, doesn't mean they are any great shakes themselves.
The whole world deserves armageddon, starting with DreamHost HQ.
I think we figured out the problem.
SunMo is AIM'ing me that he hasn't been able to get on for a couple hours. I don't think it's a coincidence that the board has been running smoothly all morning for a refreshing change.
Kudos to G_F for figuring out and eliminating the problem.

Deep down, you knew it all along.
There is a certain person who couldn't access the board from work late last week, and guess what?... the board didn't go down at all. Now this person can access it again, and the board has the same on/off outage pattern that we'd been dealing with for two weeks prior. This is not going to make Maddux Sports very happy.

ttllaboof is now an admin.
So :CF is teaming up with Razorgator then?
And the EMB. We're all in it together to screw one person.
So what's the deal with the board upgrades? What exactly was upgraded? The only visable changes I see is that when you open up a particular section (Eagles Talk, General, etc) there is a border across the top where it lists the subject, who started it, views, replies, etc.
And on a couple of the different section, the # of views and replies for the first couple of threads are completely blacked out.
I can only assume that this is some sort of error and not the intended look for the board.

So what's the deal with the board upgrades? What exactly was upgraded?
Mostly bug fixes and a few features (such as the captcha thing for new registrations). If you want to know the real details, feel free to click the SMF link at the bottom of the page.
It looks like the upgraded version added a few CSS classes that weren't in our original CSS template, so that's where the blacked-out cells were coming from. I updated the style sheet, and it looks a little better. :)

Before Reagor's press conference, he mentioned the EMB maintenance is to prevent a virus called "limelight" and was only originally scheduled for 2-3 hours but has lasted 14+. I wonder if :CF is infected.
I really doubt it. I can't find any mention of "limelight" in the usual virus and/or worm lookups on the 'net. Even so, we don't run on a Windoze platform, so we're not as prone to the usual bugs.
A. This is Spadaro we're talking about, so the name could be inexact or out-and-out wrong.
B. I believe the EMB runs on a unix/linux-based backend also.

They're saving money so they can sign better FA's next year
All three of those sites I mentioned use the same MB format, so I'm guessing that's what we're switching to. It looked better on the Bengals site but I guess we'll get used to it... :-\

That sucks, I hate that format. Is the virus scare the reason for the change? Do all 134,000 + members of the EMB have to re-register?

EMB is back. They upgraded the Invision software.
They must have downgraded the server because every time I try to access a thread it tells me the server is too busy.

I'm on Emb but ive never posted. I found :CF a few years back looking for draft info, liked it and lurked for a while.
I posted at TATE like six years ago, then PG tricked me into coming here by saying there was Asian Porn to be had.

You see... In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
We wanted to make a parody site about the Eagle, we made this message board to talk about the site itself as it was being made. At that time the EMB was already out of control with morons so we decided just to have this board open up to become an Eagles message board for anyone who didnt want to have to deal with the nonsense over at the EMB. Mind you this was 6 years ago or more.
and it's been about that long since the parody part of the site got any update

We should call in Al and Jesse to have Dio kicked off the internets.
Did anyone else have problems connecting to this site last night around 7-11pm? I also had problems with myspace and another messageboard. But then some other sites worked fine? Any ideas?
Yeah. Stop using MySpace. It'll further corrupt your mind.
It's hit and miss this morning.
We get a ton of traffic every draft weekend.

I guess you're error prone.

I've had problems with it, too. Plus the whole site is dog slow.

how come the site loads so slowly lately?
also, when i try to clear my inbox, I get

They're trying to tell you something... :paranoid
the site has been really slow to load most of the time for me the past few weeks.
yeah, it's been going on a while. I click a thread and the first couple posts pop right up, then there is a delay as each post fills in.
Same.
Every time I click post, I get a message telling my session has timed out while posting. I click post again, and it goes through. Not really a big deal having to click twice, until it happens four to five times straight.
edit: Huh, except for this time.
I've got a slew of PMs that need to be removed. Whenever I try to delete one, or a group of them, I get the following error:
QuoteSession verification failed. Please try logging out and back in again, and then try again.
I have logged out and back in, no dice. If one of you admins wants to clear my inbox and outbox, go ahead. It won't let me do it.
Just another problem i noticed, the Quick edit function is giving me errors each time i attempt to use it? Anyone else having this problem?
I'm having the same problem that Seabiscuit is having. Also, this site/server/whatever sucks the big one. The really big one. Crash crash slow. Edit post, fail, crash. Slow, slow, timeout.
Eat it.
Quick edit doesn't work for me either. I've stopped trying to use it.
I wonder how much longer this board will survive. I get the distinct feeling that if it crashed tonight, it's quite possible that no one would do anything about it.

G_F is still the head man, but he's got his entire body up inside some girl down under (in more ways than one). I'm sure if he felt he couldn't maintain it anymore, he would be willing to find another person to do so. Right?
...?
I would hope so. And since it's G_F's gig, I've made it a rule to help out only when he asks.
(Trying the quick edit.)
(It worked just fine. But then again, it's Saturday morning, and traffic is comparatively light.)
GF is probably laughing at all you "guys" whining about things not working.
For what it's worth, I've had none of the issues being described, other than one "500 Internal Error" or something like that.
Methinks Dio's lawnmowing is huting his internet skills. Not being in an office has lessened them.
I can check the error log, install patches, run the admin tools, all that fun stuff, but if the problems aren't consistent all I've got left is biting, sarcastic emails to the host.

Does the host appreciate your dry sense of humour (sic)?
I think they're more the IBM crowd.
Ha! Indeed.
IBM sucks.
Loading the pages on this POS site is frigging nightmarish. So goddamned slow.
Even with sigs and avatars turned off.
Yep.
slow as shtein here, anyone else?
Yep, it's been slow for quite some time. I think G_F has it bouncing off a server in his basement in Australia.
GF finally starts posting again and the board slows down. Coincidence?
Okay, I'll stop.
Promise?
Is registration still closed here? I'm bored with all of you. And I hope you're all bored with me. We need some new blood up in this piece.
Apparently it is still closed. Maybe it's a good thing, what with all of the gloating Vagiant cockroaches roaming about...
I don't understand why we'd shun visiting fans. They're always good for some mean-spirited bonding. This board has devolved into all of us calling each other names and IGY posting in every single thread with the sole purpose of trying to kill any lighthearted banter.

I can't be a racist.
Racism is a crime.
I can't be a criminal because I am white.
Overuse of the search function. Thanks, assface.
speaking of racism when i hit preview post all i see is black
all you normally see is black and white anyway, if you wait a while it'll go back to white once it suits your argument at the moment
no id normally see a copy of the text im about to post...but now where that normally would be all i see is a completely black box and it never changes
Updated the board recently, so I guess the BLT drive went AWOL.
is that block transfer?
My bacon lettuce and tomato drive is always getting clogged too.

There's the easy fix for now. Later, we'll see what we can do about fixing it properly. The Eagles might win a superbowl later, too.
that ignore feature is coming up later too, right?
wouldn't an ignore feature give the same result as just closing the board down altogether?

And that's why your posts though misguided, are however, normally grammatically correct and understandable.
actually i never use the function to proof read....if i wanted to do that id just reread my post in its orginal box...only time i preview post is if im posting a picture to make sure its not a red x
Probably wouldn't be a red x for you anyway, since the pic you're using is likely already in your cache.

I noticed the little icon that goes in my Firefox bookmarks and address bar changed from the :CF to some green leaf lookin thing. ANyone else?
yep. same thing
yeah, firefox updated this morning and I got the same
Not sure where that icon came from. I assume it was part of the theme we butchered to make this one. The old icon should show up in a few refreshes for you guys.
On my home computer, the icon that shows is the PFT logo. I never bothered to find out why or try to get it to change. As long as I can find my way to you lovely chaps, I'm good.
i had a generic thing now i have the cf logo. hmmmmm.
Firefox bookmark icons are historically screwy. You switch from one page to another and it randomly takes the icon sometimes.

Our host moved us to a new server the other day. I checked the board for errors and recounted all the topics and posts, there's no problems there. Its happening on a couple machines, but not others, so I suggest blowing out the cache on those machines and trying it again. If that doesn't work, we may have to move on to advanced cable-jiggling techniques.
What is the deal with jihadist_monk's obsession with me? He started a thread about me, randomly asked about my musical tastes and now this... I'm either frightened or stiff as a board in the old trousers. Updates at 11.

slow as farg and timing out
The server had to run some errands.
slow & timing out for anyone else? I keep getting internal server error 500 and seemingly after i try to search for something
For whatever reason, the CF board stopped working on my phone.
Which parts of it? Which OS on your phone? Which browser?
I'm good with an IPhone/Safari.
I've got a motorola atrix 4g, and I use firefox 99% of hte time on it...no idea what OS that is as I am not good with the phone stuff at all. It's an android if that's what you mean.
When I go to concretefield.info, the site works. But when I try to get to the message board, I get a blank white screen and this message at the top:
The request failed
Service Unavailable
Technical description:
504 Gateway Time-out - The web server is not responding
I have no problems with any other website
Does it do it with other browsers on there? Opera or Dolphin?
I don't know what either of those are, but google chrome won't even let me click the "home" link on the homepage to get to the message board.
same for me GF--iphone and ipad for safari is a no go 90% of the time.
I uninstalled the addon that switches themes for mobile browsers. Any change?
yes it worked. ill let you know if that changes again.
thanks
No go for me on firefox still
I'm stumped on this one. I don't have any android device that'll run Chrome or Firefox, and I can't get them to run in emulation. Anyone else using those on Android?
I've never had a problem on iPhone but I'm glad it's defaulted back to the classic view.
I wasn't able to view the site on my iPhone 4 yesterday but that's probably a good thing at least for most of you.

I figured that already. You suck for living in an area without 4G coverage.
We have 4G, dummy. The iPhone 4 model isn't compatible with that service. You'd think a young, tech-savvy guy such as yourself would know that.
I bypassed the 4 because I'm that cool.
You sure are.
so who else is still going through this issue with their iPhone4?
you try to get in the site, but after about 45 sec of trying to load you get a 504 gateway technical issue. you then hit refresh and you can get in. but now it seems that its timing out after a certain period of not browsing in CF and you have to go through the process again.
GF, I've tried deleting cookies and erasing history, but this is still an issue. Any ideas or are we stuck having to try to log in twice every time? c'mon computer wiz whatcha got?
I have no experience dealing with iPhones, so I can't test anything out on my own, but I'll keep looking in to it.
Not a connection problem but I live with the "Show unread posts since last visit" portion but not all of the threads show up but then it gives me a "show unread threads since last visit" option which shows me a bunch of I missed. Just wondering how the board separates the two.
I have an old iPhone 4 that I now use as an iPod and two new iPhone 5's - one personal for VZW and one business for AT&T.
I have never have any issue at all accessing this site via the iPhone Chrome browser, much to the chagrin of many.
I noticed the iphone error this morning while on 3G service - I have the iphone 4.

Guess I won't bother trying it with Chrome on my phone then. :CF loads just fine through Safari on my ipad and iphone when on wifi. I don't have 3G/4G on my ipad so I never use it to access the web on the go anyway. Always use my iphone for that.
It doesn't work initially with the 4 or 4S. If I'm really Jonesing for a Todd/Havas exchange I'll just substitute it by smashing myself in the ear with a hammer.

So my 4 and his 5 don't work unless on wifi
maybe it's time to just shut :CF down and go our own ways
NEVER! This is the oldest site on the internet that no body knows about.
With this many people having iphone problems, we can assume the mod that switched to a different theme for iphones did not uninstall properly.
So is it fixed now?
Not yet. Should be in a few minutes.
It should work now, and look the same as normal except no big logo at the top.
