i dont get this

they need an outside speed deep threat and they got....a slot receiver in the last year of his deal and had to give up a 3rd

Yeah I'm not sure why they got a possession guy, they needed someone to open up the top of the D...they've got enough possession guys between Ertz and Agholor and Matthews and etc
Title: Re: Golden Tate, Philadelphia Eagle
Post by: MDS on October 30, 2018, 02:12:46 PM
so if tate walks they will get a comp pick back, which im guessing will be like a 5th or 6th in 2020

still dont give up the 3rd, which will likely be a top 100 pick

the only positives i can think
-tate is a crazy person and will be fun to see him punk fools
-locker room will like this
-prevents them from taking shelton gibson jr in 19 draft

Tate's a damn good receiver. He is more of a possession receiver but he has underrated speed and knows how to find gaps in the defense. For a 3rd...ehhhhh. A 5th I would say is a good deal, a 4th I could deal with...but a 3rd is a steep price.
Title: Re: Golden Tate, Philadelphia Eagle
Post by: Eagles_Legendz on October 30, 2018, 02:41:33 PM
Price is steep but they should get a fourth or fifth back as a comp pick assuming he walks.

He's a good WR but I'm not sure about the fit.  Figured they'd target a deep threat.  His skill set overlaps with who they have.

He's a very good receiver.  They gave up a 3.  If they don't re-sign him they'll probably get back a 4 if not higher.  So, basically, they get a minimum of 8 games for a guy for the difference between a third & fourth round pick.

Yes. We should definitely be upset.

lol I can only imagine. I got to the point where I was barely even lurking in TATE anymore last season. Had to check in when they were making their run last year of course, and then I think I spent the least amount of time there after the SB that I ever have. Some of that probably had to do with finally winning and being satisfied I'm sure.

I heard about the BS fake news reason being given for my banning ::) They even had a poster from here pretend he "saw something" somewhere else, god knows where :-D. I was able to get a message to Ed over there about it, but I'm IP banned so can't really check in to see if anything came of it.

theres not a chance its a 3 and depending on what the eagles do in free agency there might not be a comp pick at all

also if they get a comp pick its not until 2020...so while not a reason alone not to do it you do lose a year on the pick you traded

the 8 months is irrelevant unless they at least make the super bowl and tate is a factor in why they made it

we can argue all day about the trade and you can think its the greatest trade ever....but the idea that you are salty because some people think its an overpay is laughable

If there's no chance it's a three, why is every article being written about this saying Detroit would likely get a three as compensation?

Also - it's a good trade at a fair price.  Nothing more.  Stop with the hysterics, IGY.

because they are stupid?

for it to be a 3rd a 31 year old slot wr would have to get ridiculous money and the eagles more or less sign no one in FA

ill apologize then kung fu grip my bird if they get a 3 but its not happening...in fact theres more chance they get a five than a three...shtein theres a lot more chance of getting no pick than a 3rd

The #Eagles had been throwing to Nelson Agholor close to the line of scrimmage and trying to get him some YAC. That's one of Golden Tate's strengths. Get him to do that and send Agholor down the field. Smart move. I like it.

if they were 6-2 i would like it even more

but again your road to the bowl IF YOU MAKE IT is: car, @la, @no

im not saying you dont try but this seems highly unrealistic for them to do
Title: Re: Golden Tate, Philadelphia Eagle
Post by: ice grillin you on October 31, 2018, 06:40:39 AM
basically to make the super bowl this year carson has to lose his mind and play way better than every other qb and carries them there...and like you said thats just not going to happen against cam goff and brees...they already lost to carolina at home and they are def losing at no and la and possibly going to get worked pretty badly doing it

basically howie traded a 3rd to try and win the division and once in hope for a miracle...cant hate on him for it as the eagles just lived thru a miracle season and in the nfl a half season is an eternity with injuries and stuff like that...also they have a qb who is on the very short list of best in the game so go for it...just that IMO winning the division is a toss up and odda to win a superbowl are super small and not worth giving up a 3 for a half season of someone
Title: Re: Golden Tate, Philadelphia Eagle
Post by: ice grillin you on October 31, 2018, 08:10:10 AM
howie admitting that they lost the trade if they dont win the super bowl

Quote"You're always trying to get the best price," he said. "There is no doubt about it. But we're not trying to win the trades. We're trying to get really good players. The message to our fans, to our players, to our coaches, to everyone in this organization is our foot is always going to be on the gas. We're always trying to win. We're always going to try to put our best foot forward. What we can do now is try to do that for this season and this moment. That's what we're going to do and that's our responsibility."
Title: Re: Golden Tate, Philadelphia Eagle

so i guess the point of golden tate is to put them over the top in these 5 games:

dal, @dal, wsh, hou, @wsh

the giants game they win without him...the saints and rams they are losing regardless

if they lose any one of those 5 games, especially to wash, they wont make it

they gave up a 3

They gave up the difference between a 2019 3rd rounder and a 2020 3rd or 4th rounder that they will get back when Tate walks. So the cost of this trade is not having the equivalent of a Josh Huff rookie year next season.

it doesnt work exactly like that and again there is zero chance he garners a 3rd

if you like swinging for the fences then this trade is for you and thats a valid argument...one i dont happen to agree with but its legit anbd i dont hate howie for it....but trying to spin it as they didnt give up a lot for what they got doesnt fly

Simmons ended up in Jax after Buddy got canned in AZ.  My wife and I went to their training camp just to see him and I was wearing Birds gear.  I did the Eagles cheer as he was walking off the field and he made a bee line right to me.

He was laughing and he said, "man you Philly guys are crazy."   He was really nice to us.

I don't understand how the Rams and Saints games are automatic losses. I do understand they're difficult games to win, but you also predicted a loss for every game after Wentz got hurt last year.

As I said when the playoffs started, I'll go ahead and believe the Eagles are going to win until they don't.

The Eagles 5th receiver was literally the starter 2 years ago. This year's offense might not have any of the most talented players they've ever had, but this is definitely the most talented offense they've ever had. If Wentz wasn't a crippled butt who smells like a butt, and they had an offensive coordinator worth a damn, they'd easily be a top five offense again during this stupidly offense-heavy year.

The trade still would have been suboptimal, but nobody but IGY would give a shtein.
