XBox Game Pass is doing another deal with three months for one dollar. Still the best deal in video games. I'm using it to finally play through Wasteland 3.

Use/lose leave so off till 3rd. Have time to kill and game pass was $1 for the first month so downloaded Halo infinite. Replayed all the Halo games with game pass last year except for 5 because it's so awful. 343 thankfully went back to Master Chief and the Bungie style game play with some add ins and really nailed this game. Took a bit of getting used to the new controls and had to lower the sensitivity levels to zero because master chiefs movements were borderline giving me a seizure.

Friends are better than money.

I can't deal with the rigamarole to get a PS5 and I refuse to pay a scalper, but I have a friend who can deal with it, takes the whole thing as a challenge as it were.  I asked him to help.

6 weeks and an amazing amount of effort on his part later, there's a brand new PS5 w/ optical drive under my Christmas tree...a bit late as we were trying for Christmas, but on balance, still f'n impressive.  The children haven't noticed the big box at the back of the tree, of course.  Tonight we'll take Christmas down and pack it away, at some point during which they'll notice that Santa left a present (or two: I got a second controller as well) we never opened.

I think they'll be happy.

The good news is there's no disappointment that it can't be updated and activated on Christmas day because the servers are down. The bad news is there's no games to buy for it yet that aren't just PS4 games. There's still Fortnite and Rocket League, at least.

do you know the game pass "hack"?  you can essentially upgrade to game pass ultimate for $1 basically forever, I've been doing it for about 5 years.

when your new deal expires, you buy regular gold subscription for pretty cheap, maybe $15 for the year or something.  then it let's you upgrade the entire year to ultimate for $1.  you can actually do it for up to 3 years or however long your gold subscription is for a total of $1.

I didn't explain that well but follow this, I can confirm that it still works I just did it a few weeks ago:

I didn't realize I responded to a year old comment but regardless it works.

Yeah, I do it every now and then when there's something I want to play on it.

I got the X Series last year and the graphics are insane.  I really have only played nba 2k for like the last 5 years but every now and then I pop in the Flight Simulator game and it's incredible to look at.  I don't have the patience for that type of game but I'll just fly over a city that I know and crash into some buildings.

Also Avengers is free on game pass.  Pretty fun if you're into MCU.

Microsoft kicked off a string of buyouts at the start of covid when every company suddenly had too much cash. Bethesda, the publisher for Skyrim, Doom, and Dishonored, went for $75 billion, so it'll be terrifying interesting to see what EA goes for right now.
