McKid bailed on the Colts. Bye Bill. It's been real.
QuoteJeanne Hurney and Marty Hurney were divorced in January 2014. They had been married since 1988. In late December, Jeanne Hurney filed a motion to receive more alimony, given Hurney's return to the Panthers. Jim Warren, a Charlotte attorney who represented Marty Hurney through part of his divorce case, said the allegations "obviously are not based on acts of domestic violence. No reasonable person could have feared for her bodily harm."
Warren also said the complaint "would appear to have been done at a time to inflict the most damage to Marty."
Quote
The judge who heard Jeanne Hurney's complaint said there was no evidence Hurney had committed acts of domestic violence against her. District Judge Ronald Chapman refused to issue an immediate restraining order against Marty Hurney. Chapman set a Feb. 16 hearing on the complaint.
Great world we live in...if the genders were reversed you think a woman's being put on 'leave' due to uncorroborated allegations? I hope he's allowed to sue for punitive damages when her bullshtein is exposed.
I was looking forward to seeing Patriots without Patricia and Josh McDaniels. McDaniels apparently already had the presser scheduled.
Brady will stick around one more year so they can get Tebow up to speed.
McDaniels pulled a major bitch move
He hired coaches to be on his staff and now they're farged
DeFillipo or Reich will end up there now
No person in the Eagles organization wants to leave; they're all in the double QB backfield

Which unfortunately is exactly what you want if you're a Patriots fan. I mean this is the exact same thing Belichick did to the Jets.
Under Kraft this team is excellent on the field, but in every aspect they go right up to the line of professionalism and legality and sometimes sneak across that line. They give themselves every advantage, even if it means being shady dirtbags.
Brad Childress retired. Also, he's going to be an offensive consultant for the Bears.
Josh McDaniels' agent told him he was making mistake (http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000915202/article/josh-mcdaniels-agent-told-him-he-was-making-mistake)
QuoteGarafolo reported on NFL Network's Good Morning Football that even McDaniels' agent, Bob LaMonte, told the OC that he's making perhaps the biggest professional mistake of his career by backing out of this Colts job at this point, according to sources informed of the talks between McDaniels and his agent.

Basically a defensive move by the agent. Teams will not deal with a guy who burned someone like that.

You think? Hoodie actually took the job with the Jets and bailed like 8 hours later. Seems to have worked out well for him.
McDaniel, who I'm not convinced is the next big thing in coaching, hadn't actually taken the job yet. If he had, I might have a different opinion on it, but all they had in place I guess was a verbal agreement on things.
I'm not sure I blame him either. Indy is a wreck. Irsay is a hot mess and their QB's arm is being held together with JB Weld and bubble gum.
Besides, he had to get some sort of signal from Kraft that he's the next Patriots head coach. Will that be in 2018 or shortly after? Who knows? But I think he's basically getting the Jason Garrett treatment at this point.
He hadn't signed, but he had hired coaches and was on the phone still trying to get guys hours before he said "nah."
Verbal deal is still a deal in the NFL. When you see deals reported, it's all verbal deals. Going back at that point is considered a major eff you. It's like if March rolls around and the Chiefs decide to keep Alex Smith.
you know what makes it extra verbal......the fact that he wasnt actually allowed to sign a deal until after the super bowl
They have a franchise level qb...not sure why the Colts situation would be so horrible.
Because nobody's really sure if Luck's healthy or not.
Someone quick say a "He feels he doesn't need luck to win a superbowl" joke.
Here's a report about it with some more detail: http://www.theredzone.org/Blog-Description/EntryId/68230/Source--Tuesday-meeting-with-Belichick-convinced-McDaniels
I hate the Patriots as much as anyone but I don't blame McKid one bit. The Irsay family is disgusting and Indianapolis might as well be 1887 Tombstone, AZ in comparison to raising your family and sending your kids to New England schools.
https://twitter.com/MikeGarafolo/status/961668166211522561
Unfortunately I think SF is getting its money worth with that deal.
Becomes the floor for Wentz too.
That's $12,857,142.85 per NFL start so far in guaranteed dough.
Awesome.
Will Cousins get more?
If he's going to the Jets, Browns, or Colts, sure. The Vikings probably can't afford that.
Revis cut by the Chiefs.
Ironically Cousins would probably take less to go to the Vikings. Not much less, but a bit.
Why are the Vikings in the Cousins discussion? If the Vikes aren't sold on Bridgewater, they're sold on Keenum, right?
According to my Vikes-loving friend, Keenum is really good, but has a weak arm and makes mistakes when pressured (like most QB's) but his mistakes seem to be really bad. Apparently, he's been one bad game away from being benched all season.
I think he had an aberration of a season too. I thought they were still all in on Teddy B. though
Bradford, Keenum, and Bridgewater are all free agents. They're neither as good or as healthy as Cousins.
The worst thing is you know someone out there's going to be dumb enough to give Bradford more money.
Frank Reich, Colts HC. Probably.

because dawk is going in and the eagles won the super bowl so they will bitch about it not being the birds
im not sure about the champs being in it....i would think the champs could be in if they have a huge player being inducted...but either way it wont stop people from whining about it
i feel like if the eagles didn't win the SB, the dawk/TO combo would have put them in over urlakker. but since they will most likely have a big opening weekend game anyway, they don't want to overkill the eagles.

I actually don't care. Obviously, if the Phillies win means more to you, that's a you thing and visceral reaction to it being the first Philly win in a good bit. But the quality of the competition and the storylines behind the championships aren't really comparable. The Eagles win had unbelievable storylines. I loved watching the Phillies win, but I hated that it was against the Rays (and even more when they were playing in that stupid dome, which sucks for baseball).

I'm a 4 for 4 guy. I'll admit, when a teams doing better I pay closer attention but I watch every game even if it's just on as background noise. Would I root harder for the Flyers if they were on a Cup run than I would for the Eagles if they were 4-12? Hell yeah.
The Phillies win was a slow build of young talent who developed and took steps to winning the WS. That it was against the Rays never bothered me. The Rays were a quality team and Maddon is the best coach in the league. It was a relief the drought was over and that whole run was amazing but the Phillies also won a WS in 1980. I was only 5, but old heads still remember the win.
Philly is a sports town. But more than anything Football drives the city.
Let's be honest, even the most optimistic Eagles fan (Jay) didn't think the Birds were winning the SB. Once we saw what Wentz could do we were hopeful, once he went down it was back to doom. So the Eagles winning the SB really came out of nowhere. It caught us all off guard because it was so unexpected. Whereas the Phillies was a slow buildup and we could believe a WS victory was in the future...but the Eagles not so much.
The Phillies run took the city by storm. The difference is when they're bad fans aren't as invested. On the flipside Eagles fans are 24/7 nuts about the team because bottom line is Philly is a Football city above all else. People can rank their passion for their teams however they like, but the Birds winning their first SB with a back up QB against the Pats is about as Philly as it gets.
I'm thrilled with both championships. To me it's silly to rank which one was better because I love both teams.
My first love sports wise was the Phils. I won't deny that. But the Eagles winning the Super Bowl dwarfs every other sports event I've experienced combined. It was better than I ever dreamed it would be, and believe me, I have a hell of an imagination.
Being in Philly when it happened? I can die happy now.
As much as I love the Phillies and baseball the SB win is by far the best for me.
I had lunch the day after the game at Tony Luke's. Even the broad who takes hoagie orders was smiling and nice. That's how much it meant to people in the city.
the phillies WS was the first team in any sport that i've rooted for who won anything. college/pro/etc. and i was in the stadium for it.
i'm probably unfairly discounting it because the older i get the less i care about baseball (and hockey), and i remember between 2-3am just playing queen on loop in '08 and what that meant, but the eagles have been the most important sports team in my life since i learned how to talk. in fifth grade my teacher was a cowboys fan and we used to get in arguments before and after class - that was the year tommy hutton botched the snap against dallas on mnf and i spent the rest of the night hyperventilating breathing into a paper bag w/my parents telling me i wasn't going to be allowed to watch the eagles anymore if that's how i reacted. getting to experience them win with my brother, and mom, and dad who is in his 70s, and who shed a tear during kelce's speech just meant something more to me and it was a week i won't forget.
its not a factor if your favorite team is the eagles because thats end of discussion
but if its even close age matters a lot when it comes to to 08 phillies and eagles sb....if your sports watching life (i dont count ages 0-8ish) was only 15 years when the phillies won its not nearly as droughty as if you had been watching sports for 30 years before the 08 phillies
also the longer time passes on and other philly teams win post phillies 08 the less people remember how truly horrifying 83 to 08 was
thats why im pretty sure no championship will ever top 08 phillies for me....thinking about that drought ending still gives me goose bumps to this day...and i say that as the captain of the tampa rain delay anticlimactic win team

The Phillies were my first chip for any professional team I've cheered for, and I was in the city the night it happened. That experience is forever with me. Being around so many happy people in Philly that night was just amazing.
But the Eagles were my first love. My family is nuts for the Eagles, as you have all seen. I've been dressing up in Eagles gear and going to my Uncles house since before he had that addition built on to his house and we were doing it as mostly family gathering in his rec room. We were painting our faces kelly green and silver every Sunday. I cried when they won. I didn't when the Phillies did. Though I do think part of why I didn't cry for the Phils was just legitimate shock and not knowing how to react because i had never seen a championship before in this town.

Ok, IGY, I'm stuck here. Since our teams are special and personal to us, here's this.
I went to game 7 of the World Series hoping to riot with the city...only to be punched in the balls. There's a deep passion for the boys in blue and I know I would have gone ape shtein if they Dodgers would have won. I was 12 when the Dodgers won the world series, and remember where I was watching Gibby's homer.
But, this Eagles win has been something special. I'm not from Philly but its always come down to this:
If I the Dodgers never one won another championship during my lifetime, I could still rest easy. But I would have been turning in my grave if I never witnessed the Birds win one. And I love the Dodgers. It's been 30 years now since the Dodgers have won, and I've been an Eagles fan since highschool only.
Gun to the head, I guess this Eagles win was more special than any Dodgers win could have been.

Growing up in NJ I was a Yankee fan but followed the Phillies some too. Lefty, Schmidt, Luzinski, etcetera. They came thiiis close to winning the WS a few times in the 80s but came up short until I think 1980.
I remember that botched snap by Hutton, I watched that game and couldn't believe he tried to run it in. Of course, I couldn't believe Romo bobbled a snap against Seattle and tried to run it in either. :P
It's more reaction at that point I imagine.
There's really no right or wrong way to handle a botched snap other than not botching the snap. Pick it up and run, bumble around and put it in place for the kicker...it doesn't matter. The timing is blown, the kicker is out of rhythm, the defense has an extra half second or so to try and block.
99% of the time you're farged either way.

Chiefs trade Marcus Peters to Rams...(whom are going to have to find a way to pay a whole bunch of young guys with expiring contracts.)
Jacksonville is on Bort for three more years.
https://twitter.com/BigCatCountry/status/967552085733625857
So I guess Cousins turned them down.
They were already forced to pay Bortles $19 million or whatever on his previous contract because he's injured. They would have cut him in a second if not for the injury. This allows them to reduce the cap hit.
Also allows them to spend money on other players to keep some talent from leaving the team.
It was $19M for one year and then he'd be gone. It is interesting to me that the Jags would rather pay Bortles a hefty salary than roll the dice with Capt Kirk. I wonder if other teams will follow suit?
I think the price might be too high for the Vikings (we can hope), but I don't think the Jets/Broncos/Cards would be averse to opening up the checkbook. And I think it actually makes sense for them to do so.
Jags were always going to have to dump other good players to get Cousins. Not sure they were ever truly in the market for him.
3/54 is a steal for the jags
He's serviceable at best, but if you look at what's out there and what some of these clowns are getting paid, you're dead right.

Meanwhile they'll still find a way to screw it up.
All they had to do in order to get all that draft capital was go 0-16 with the incompetent coach Brown hired, eat the Brock Osweiler contract, and trade away the right to draft two MVP-level quarterbacks who could dominate the NFL for the next decade.
They did so "well"!
Supposedly Richard Sherman has been saying bye to all his teammates. Seahawks fully doing their rebuild. Probably needed, but we'll see if they are able to get back to SB form while Russell is still elite.
I wouldn't be surprised if they had near the most cap space ever as well, at > $100 million. If would be a fun hypothetical to see what would happen if Belichick went to Cle with all those picks and cap space. Dynasty? 1-15? IDK. Irresistable force meeting immovable object kind of thing.
The Browns have a lot of really good individual players, honestly. Just no QB, a coach who demonstrably farged up a million times last season and doesn't seem to be able to cohere this group into a team, and a bottom-3 NFL owner running the circus.

not even remotely surprising....its the nfl.....the whole league is a bunch of neanderthals...its why i can barely watch it anymore unless its the eagles
Asking a question like that in any other profession would get you fired and your organization's ass sued like a motherfarger.
Literally shook my head when I read that.
yeah i dont know how they get away with that...someone should sue them
The minute you do your nfl career is over. Plus they're just queers, right? I mean it's not as if a large percentage of the rank & file has ever experienced discrimination or anything.
My hot take on this is that it's more of a mental agility kind of test to see how a person reacts. Players talk shtein all the time. Makes sense that you'd want to fond out how easy it is to get in someone's head in a tense situation. Or it could be to gauge their reaction to unexpected questions they might get from the media.
Seems like a good idea, but terrible execution.
Vince Lombardi intentionally went out of his way to sign gay players and coaches 50 years ago. Yet we still have people being stupid about this. Christ.
A prospective employer simply cannot ask about a person's sexual preference. I mean I have been off for a couple of days, so maybe Sessions' gestapo thugs may have changed that, but otherwise, no sir.
Damn. I get the feeling the Rams wanted some new corners this season.
If a player got one of those questions, I'd like to see them look the coach right back in the eye and ask him if he's ever had an extramarital affair. And regardless of the answer go on to ask (by name) if his kids were aware of it.
Richard Sherman released to the surprise of no one.
Won't be much longer until Seattle fans can stop pretending to give a shtein about the team.
The 12 mute.
Dolphins trade Jarvis Landry to Browns. Imagine if Josh Gordon gets his shtein together. Maybe sign a FA QB and have Saquon Barkley run over Joe Thomas and Quenton Nelson. Wouldn't mind having that. Except in Cleveland.
Makes sense. Paying franchise tag money to a slot receiver is the kind of madness that is only affordable when your team is $100 million under the cap.
Time to make Cousins the first player with a 2yr/$150m contract.
Browns traded for Tyrod Taylor too.
that landry trade was a felony
I like all the trade activity.
Browns jacked the Dolphins as far as I'm concerned. Sure, the Browns's 4th rd pick is truly pick 33 in the 3rd round, but still.

I don't get the Tyrod Taylor get.
He's their answer at QB? He's their Doug Pederson while the QB they draft learns how to lose in style in a year or two?
Thought they'd throw the franchise at Kirk Cousins.
I guess we still have to see, right? At least Taylor has starting experience and is 10 times better than anyone they've got on the roster. So they're at least ahead of last season?
I think Tyrod makes sense on the Browns, playing the Dougie P role, but giving up #65 for him seemed way high.
Between that and the dumptruck of money spent on a guy I think is merely above average (Landry), John Dorsey is handling Sashi Brown's assets with all the care of a Colangelo.
cousins isnt signing there...he wants to win now not maybe 4 years from now
in terms of a 1 year commitment to a placeholder you can do a lot worse than taylor. presumably the browns will draft a qb, so why invest in much if whatever veteran you get isnt your long term solution?

the browns are taking him at 1
Carlos Hyde + the Duke is already a RB tandem most teams would envy. Tyrod can pick up yardage on the ground too. Can't rule them out but it's hard to consider that their greatest need. Plus it's the Browns, so it doesn't have to make sense.
I'm pretty tired of reading headlines and the like which go "...making _________ the highest paid _____ in the league."
Every new contract given becomes the new highest ever, day after day, week after week, year after year. Unless the contract is so farging outrageous that it's subject is going to be the top paid for a long, long time, then being the highest paid is meaningless. It's just going to be surpassed tomorrow or next Thursday.

Possibility 1: She's a gold-digging schemer who shattered the senile Tom Benson's relationship with the rest of his family in order to bilk them out of two professional sports franchises.
Possibility 2: She was actually Tom Bensons' protector, as the rest of his family tried to take advantage of him in his senior years.
Probable: These are all awful people, including Tom.
Certainty: More lawsuits and drama are coming.

The Colts just ass raped the Jets:
Colts receive:
2018 6th overall pick
2018 2nd round pick 37th overall
2018 2nd round pick 49th overall
2019 2nd round pick
Jets receive:
2018 3rd overall pick
they could still get saquon at 6
If the Jets get their guy, it's not any more of a rape than what the Browns did to the Eagles in the Wentz trade.
Quote from: QB Eagles on March 17, 2018, 11:32:23 AM
If the Jets get their guy, it's not any more of a rape than what the Browns did to the Eagles in the Wentz trade.
Define "get their guy". They can get their guy, he could be a bust. If Wentz was a bust the Eagles would have been ass raped by the Browns.
QuoteThe Eagles sent five draft picks to the Browns: the No. 8 pick in the first round, a third-round pick (77th overall) and a fourth-round pick (100th overall) in this year's draft, a first-round pick in 2017 and a second-round pick in 2018. Cleveland also sends a fourth-round pick in 2017 to the Eagles.
The Eagles moved from 8 to 2, the Jets are moving from 6 to 3. Revisionist history but the Eagles picked an elite franchise QB. They recouped a 1st and a 4th back in the trade and received a 4th back from the Browns. End of the day they only parted with a 2018 2nd round pick.
The question is what is more valuable. A 3rd round pick (the 4th is irrelevant since Cleveland the Eagles traded 4ths just on different years), a 2017 1st round pick, and a 2018 2nd round pick to move up 6 spots. Or 3 2nd round picks to move up 3.
Colts want Chubb
Quote from: AO1 on March 17, 2018, 11:39:07 AM
Define "get their guy".
The price is such that all that matters is the pick. If he's a good franchise QB, this trade was excellent. If he's not, everyone involved will be fired within a few years. Which they would have been anyway if the team doesn't see big improvement.
Can't really criticize them when they are doing exactly what the Eagles did. Bring back the okay guy from the previous year (Bradford/McCown). Sign a questionable vet backup with some chance of upside (Daniel/Bridgewater), shoot the moon in the draft to ensure you get the guy you want. The Jets are aware of what they are giving up in this trade, and it's not some unthinkable amount, it's about right to get the #3.

panthers sale going north of 2.5 bills
makes you wonder what a marquee franchise could get. jerrah is never selling but couldnt he get 8-10?
The Cowboys revenue was about 2.18x the Panthers. If the valuation scales the same way, that's about 5.5 billion.
If you look at where the Cowboys money comes from though, it's not a pure function of having the most fans. It's because Jerrah is a master of finding new ways for the team to generate revenue. He's a shtein GM but he knows how to make money like no other owner. As a result, I think the team is worth more with Jones in charge than if he would sell it to some "normal" billionaire.
then you gotta factor in how badly some rich dude wants to own the cowboys, which goes well beyond "revenue projection"
I almost pulled the trigger on it at $2.45 billion...but once it hit $2.5 billion, I was like...meh, not worth it. Hope the backup buyer enjoys the team.

QuoteThe Seattle Seahawks have released backup quarterback Trevone Boykin in the wake of a report that he's under investigation for alleged domestic violence.
The Seahawks announced Boykin's release Tuesday morning. The move came less than two hours after WFAA-TV in Dallas reported on its website that police in Mansfield, Texas are investigating Boykin following allegations from his girlfriend, Shabrika Bailey.
The woman told WFAA that Boykin attempted to choke her and broke her jaw in two places during an incident that occurred at his home last week. She said she blacked out while Boykin was attempting to choke her and then came to in a "puddle of blood on the kitchen floor."
The woman said Boykin drove her to Dallas Regional Medical Center in Mesquite, Texas and that he fled when hospital staff began questioning the two separately. The woman was airlifted to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas for further treatment because she was having trouble breathing and spent three days there, according to the report.

huge rule change in the nfl...no longer can you lower your head and initiate contact not helmet to helmet contact but lower your head for ANY contact offense or defense
But its natural to lower the head if you are leading with the shoulder.
Is this included in the rule?
im not sure
i feel like they are going to have to review almost damn play now
Maybe they can schedule a game during replays.
Not sure guys who have been playing for 25 years can just flip a switch on how they make contact.
Someone at the NFL is dreaming of the day there's no head contact at all, meaning there's no more concussion scandals, and the players can go without helmets and become as marketable as NBA players.
At least the Eagles won the last Super Bowl contested with actual NFL football being played.

If the players weren't so dementia-ed, they would demand a CBA that helped care for them after their playing days are done. They should take a cue from how well our veterans are cared for when they return.
No more meaningless end-of-game PATs. Good rule change.
Overall a very good owners meeting by the competition committee, but that head-lowering rule has the potential to overshadow everything. If they implement it in a sloppy way, it's going to cause more chaos than the catch rule they just fixed.

What do you all think of Lamar Jackson? I've seen one highlight reel. A lot of people around here excited for him. Fine with me that the Eagles D doesn't have to face this kid. Harbaugh is raving about accuracy, which I gather Jackson doesn't really have a good reputation for?
With the O's sucking he's been a topic for sports talk radio which unfortunately I sometimes consume, ashamed of myself all the while.
I think Lamar Jackson is great, but I haven't seen any highlight reels or anything.
He's a crapshoot, like all of the QBs. He should be considered part of the elite QB group in this draft though, so getting him at 32 was a bargain. Best case, he can be their Deshaun Watson.
Injury and longevity concerns have devalued running QBs compared to the days football guys thought Kap and RGIII were revolutionizing the position. Think Jackson went later than he would have a few years ago, and obviously the presence of all those more traditional QBs hurt too.
Any fan of a team led by Joe Flacco should be excited by just about any first round QB pick.

He's suing her and they were supposed to appear in court today too. Why would he send someone to pistol whip her. Like I said, if he's guilty string him up (no racism intended). The Bears are trading for Khalil Mack. No idea on what they're trading but considering what its going to cost against the cap to sign him they'd be stupid to part with a high pick.
Also Aaron Donald got caked off. He's a great player but I'd still take Cox over any DT in the league.
I think the Bears are going to be good enough that they would be a clear playoff team in the AFC. That defensive line is really interesting. On paper there are no NFC teams other than the Bucs and Cards that seem like an easy out to me, and even the Cards are legitimate on defense.
so its 2 firsts and a bit more for mack....maybe a player or another lower round pick
throw the rams into any teaser you can think. gruden is incompetent on top of just sending a message to his team a week before the season that he thinks they suck

91 interceptions, 24 fumbles
3.9% turnover rate

anytime you can trade the best pass rusher for 2 hypothetical players, its something you have to do
players of mack's caliber arent traded because teams are doing everything they can to get one of them. when you do you gotta pay them. instead the raiders paid the coach.

He's always been overrated as a coach. The Raiders have the oldest roster in the league now. And then yes trading Mack is pretty dumb.
I agree Gruden's overrated...I just can't see trading two 1sts and having to add a massive contract (significant part of the cap) for one player.
i dont mind the trade for a team that is closer than the bears
but for where they stand in the big picture
especially being in the nfc
it seemed like a pretty big overpay
I think their viewpoint is that their window is Trubinsky's rookie contract, so push all the chips in now.
Formula to win is either have an elite QB, or a cheap game manager QB with an elite roster. You can't really have both unless you have an elite QB on his rookie contract like the Eagles. The Bears really have no choice but to assume that Trubinsky is at least game manager quality and to try to maximize the talent around him, before they either have to throw $20M a year at him or give up on him and start over.
a rookie qb window only matters if the qb and team are actually good
Would have liked to see the Rams lose, they might be the Eagles top competitor. On the other hand, nice to see Gruden lose. He said Mack didn't want to play for him. Apparently neither did the rest of the team.

NFLPA agreed to random drug tests
five tests in five weeks is not random....hes being targeted and i think we all know why
Dumb conspiracy. The names are chosen by an independent arbitrator jointly selected by the NFL and NFLPA, not by the league office.
Five tests would actually be four random tests given that there's a mandatory one given when you join a team and take the physical. And I'm guessing that "like five" is really less than five also.
lol
the chances of getting tested four times in four weeks is .5 percent...shtein three tests in a month is under 5%
and this just so happened to a kneeler who was blackballed from the league until a new liberal leaning owner came in and signed him?
but of course the player is lying and the nfl is to always be believed because they are so upstanding and moral...im sure theres no link btwn football and CTE either
Eric Reid has played six games this season. You can be tested after every game. In addition, there is a mandatory one during the physical.
Looking at the combinatorics, there is an 18% chance of getting tested a total of at least 3 times, a 4% chance of getting tested a total of at least 4 times, and a 0.5% chance of getting tested five times. But I doubt he was tested five times, because when an aggrieved party says "like five", they usually don't mean "five".
The bigger question is how the league is rigging this, when like just about every company that tests employees, it's carried out by a third party that maintains a full audit trail (because disciplining employees based on testing is a sensitive legal and medical matter), and whose whole business will be destroyed and sued into oblivion if they are caught tampering with the process. And the league did no more to select that third party than the NFLPA itself did.
Until someone explains that piece to me, it's just a dumb conspiracy theory believed by dumb people.
is this some sort of maga science math and facts dont matter thing or is this a goodell sheeple protect the shield thing?
even if you believe literally anything is possible to call this a conspiracy is super trumpian...either the math is wrong but if its somehow the math is right then the player is lying
QuoteLet's do some rough math. Reid, like all other players, has a 13.88 percent chance of being randomly picked for a weekly test. Assuming one of the five tests was at the outset with his physical, that means it's happened four times in six tries.
There's around a 40 percent chance an NFL player wouldn't have been selected at all over a six-week stretch, and 40 percent chance he would have been selected once. A player has about a 15 percent chance of being exactly twice in six weeks. Add those up, and 95 percent of the players will be tested two times or less in any given six-week period.
The chances of being picked exactly three times in six games is slightly under 5 percent and the odds of exactly four or more in six weeksāwhich is what Reid would be at if his claim is correctāis around 0.5 percent.

5000 people on an aircraft carrier and I was randomly selected to take a drug test 3 times in one week. Best part about it is we were already underway for two straight weeks.
First of all, isn't that the exact same math I posted? I said he has a 0.5% chance of being picked 5 times. Are we disagreeing about whether "like five" means "exactly five"?
Also instead of a dumb argument comparing me to Trump and Goodell, can you make a smart argument explaining how the NFL realistically would have been able to rig Reid getting selected, given the facts I laid out?

The NFL is in a sad state right now, outside of a small handful of top teams.
We already know the defending champions suck. The Jaguars, who would have been their SB opponent if not for a wild comeback, have an even worse record.
The second wildcard team in both conferences is stuck at 5 wins.
The Skins and Texans, two visibly poor teams, are still alone in first place after Week 11.
It's not obvious that teams like the Giants and Browns are necessarily going to miss the playoffs.

I've been watching NFL football since 1971 and that was one of the craziest games I've ever seen. When I tuned in it was like "Rams/Chiefs? Meh, there's nothing else on."
I watched the whole thing start to finish though, it had it all. Offense, defense, defensive TDs, everything. It was pretty tight until the second half and then it was wide open. I motherfarging sure would take Goff or Mahomes over Prescott. Best game I've watched in a looong time when I didn't have a dog in the hunt.
After that second Rams defensive touchdown in the third quarter it was like being on a frickin roller coaster ride. It was insane.

And this just keeps getting worse. How did the pigs NOT request to see the video? Why was the punk who ripped the phone out of the girl's hands taking the video not charged with assault, battery and theft? And why did the Chiefs wait 9 months to cut that creep, and only did so after the video leaked?
Christ - talk about farged up optics.
Also - as bad as Hunt's actions were, the reactions to them might be worse. She had it coming because she's white and raised her hand to him? (I actually read that one online.)
The story going around is the Chiefs didn't see the video until now, and the hotel told the NFL their policy is to not give security footage to anyone but the police.
And if you believe the Cheifs, they released Hunt not because of the content of the video per se, but because the content proved that his initial explanation to them wasn't truthful.
See, the Kansas City Cheifs under Andy Reid, they have principles. No lying to the team. Honorable set, these folks.

It also happened in February and the team nor the league made any effort to get the video....they literally don't care until it becomes a PR thing
whoever is getting these videos at tmz can surely have their salary tripled by the nfl...youd think at this point the league would want to be on top of this from even a pr perspective
we know they dont actually care about the violence toward women thing, but they do kind of care how it looks
I'd say a large percentage of NFL fans couldn't care less if he beat her ass. The NFL as a conglomerate cares about optics and money. Women? Not even close.
There's 4 videos, the incident, the girls account, Kareem's friends account, and some random person talking to them outside the hotel after the incident. All parties are equally at fault. Kareems's friends were very centered and gave a reasonable explanation of the incident. They told the girl to go because she was only 19, she said she didn't know how to get home so they gave her $20. Kareem's girl tried to play peace maker but the girls weren't having it, kept going after them and dropping N bombs. After the incident she asked the front desk to call 911 and they refused saying that's what you get for being a whore. The video outside shows them talking about the girls saying she hopes he has a good agent because she's going to sue him.
Hunt is stupid for not going into his room and calling security. I get it he's young and intoxicated but he needs to know better. He's even dumber for kicking the girl while she was down and idiotic for lying to the team. I don't fault the league or the team, seems like they did their due dillegence asking for Kareem's account and had no reason to believe he was lying.

I was watching KC yesterday and they didn't miss a beat without Hunt. It got me thinking... Hunt probably did the right thing by lying. If he had told the whole truth he would have been immediately suspended or cut by the Mormon father of the year. So, in essence, he got three months worth of checks out of them he wouldn't have gotten otherwise. He doesn't seem smart enough to tie his own shoes, so whoever is advising him did their job in that regard.
Now if they can just teach him not to be a cowardly bitch who beats women, that'd be super.

Ware is way less dynamic than Hunt. He's competent but not a big play guy. The loss might seem more impactful when they aren't playing the Raiders. Still, it's not a huge deal for them because even though Hunt was an All-Pro, he's like the 4th most important piece of their offense.

Reid is a piece of shtein. Piss Test him till his dick falls off for all I care.
Keep being sheep for the nfl slave masters and you will always be on the wrong side of history
Does anyone you have any evidence to support the claim that Reid is being targeted with these tests, other than the fact that he's been required to test often this season? Because that's proof of nothing. Random means, they could call your number any time, every time, none of the times...it's random.
I was randomly selected 3 times in one week when I was on the Reagan...and we were underway meaning the likliehood of doing drugs is unlikely.
The definition of random is hard for some people. They think it means "rare" or "once it happens, it won't happen again" or "it can't happen 7 times in a row." It's f'n random.
The Chiefs won the coin toss what, 10 times in a row this year? What's the NFL conspiracy there?
Some player somewhere hasn't been asked to piss test at all. If he's white, is that proof that Donald Trump intervened on his behalf.
Idiots.
How the selections are handled is chosen by an Independent Administrator. They're aren't selected at random by a machine. A player can be tested up to 24 times a year.

From the linked document: "
By means of a computer program, the Independent Administrator will randomly select the Players to be tested from the Club's active roster, practice squad list, and reserve list who are not otherwise subject to ongoing reasonable cause testing for performance-enhancing substances."
Someone who isn't in the random list is Josh Gordon. He got popped again, a suspension is incoming, and he's "stepping away from football" to work on his mental health.
Put the pipe down, dummy.
He's troubled and has obvious mental health issues. Read something about him recently breaking up with his girl too. Dude could have been an all time great...shame really.
Ok so if he is mentally ill, why was he still playing football? How many times did he go through rehab or counseling or whatever? No one figured it out? Not his family or his friends, teammates, coaches or doctors?
Come on.
If he is ill then I'm happy for him seeking help. But what's probably the truth is he's a guy who simply can't stop abusing drugs or getting caught doing them.
Either way it's a monumental waste of elite talent.

Andy Reid is backsliding into the playoffs and a one and done, book it.
Offense hasn't been the same since they cut Hunt. Defense has been trash all year. It's a one dimensional team now that is all on the shoulders of Mahomes.
Hunt was a legit MVP candidate before they dumped his ass. It's not surprising that they've slid a bit, but Andy is right on schedule with his usual nonsense.
hunt was not really an mvp candidate...its all mahomes
williams has been really good (helping yours truly to a fantasy title thankyouverymich). sea and kc were bad matchups for them. 2 ball control teams that ate clock and prevented mahomes from getting on the field. kc's defense has always been garbage, but they previously were able to get enough possessions where it didnt matter. last 2 games they didnt.

Definitely not saying he's great but Gase doesn't seem like the main problem in Miami. Hard to evaluate him without a real QB or at least a real GM. Winning seven games with that roster is a minor miracle. Like I wouldn't be shocked if he gets fired and wins 13 games with Baker Mayfield next year.
Any chance Matt Patricia's personality gets him fired already? It's not like the Lions to make that kind of move but he's acting like a serious icehole over there and the players like him less than Chip was liked here.

If they're gonna kill him now is the time after just a year like Zona is doing with Wilks.

The Steelers tend to not put up with shtein like this for very long. He's 30, the decline has begun, and you got JuJu. Put him on the same flight to Oakland (or wherever) with Le'Veon and identify the final generation of skill players to surround Big Ben with. Drafting highly effective RBs and WRs has always been easy for Pittsburgh.
looking at the match ups for this weekend man did both the ravens and chargers get screwed
chargers have to go across the country and play a division winner.....ravens have to play team that led the afc in wins
chargers also have to go across the country for a 100 game for reasons that are unclear to me. SD/BAL and HOU/IND are the same draw, really no difference. usually "the better" AFC game this weekend goes to CBS at 100 but its a wash this year. tiebreaker should prevent a 1000AM game.
It's a bad draw for the Chargers simply because that type of exotic offense is not what their defense is designed to stop. They can hang with the other shootout teams.

QuoteRecent coaching hirings have shined a light on an ugly prospect: that the NFL is starting to set up its fight for a potential work stoppage in 2021 and a disruption of football that season, league sources told ESPN.
In coaching contracts negotiated in the past week, teams are addressing how much each coach would make -- or lose -- in the event of a work stoppage, according to sources.
Teams are trying to protect themselves and save money in the event of missed time, using different percentages for amounts of the football season that could be missed in 2021.
One league source told ESPN that he thought both teams and coaches are confident that there will be some type of disruption, and one of the first signs of it is showing up in the language of coaches' contracts.
That language is also expected to appear in some player contracts being negotiated in free agency; in the third year of those deals, the current collective bargaining agreement is due to expire.
CBA expires after the Super Bowl in Tampa at the beginning of 2021.

right call according to the rule, the rule was stupid
was a lateral
regular season game with replacement refs
Mahomes looked a lot like McNabb in that first series.

Looked good to me
No meek in the locker room tonight
This is disgusting Andy at his walrus worst.
Andy Reid playing from behind in the second half of a championship game.
I'm sure this is gonna be great.
this is like the tampa/carolina game...better team but just getting worked over with no fix
big difference is mahomes may be good enough to make up for it where as 5 was not going to be doing that
Mahomes is 10,000 times better than that drunk ass mana's boy chunky soup eating bitch.
brady's butt boy edelman with an all time farg up
and it likely just missed his thumb
Overturn.
That's a catch.
Disgusting disgrace. farg the nfl.
Romo is the best on teevee.
nm
Fatty team being a fatty team.
Chiefs D is a bad as advertised.
Might be nice to have more than one time out Andy.
HURRY THE farg UP!!
HOLY shtein!
this has been fun
football is fun
Chiefs starting secondary is almost as bad as the scrubs the birds had out there the past few weeks.
Romo is calling exactly what Pats are going to do. Chiefs D is pathetic.
That was sad
So another little white dude comes through.
Sorry Fatty, it ain't ever gonna happen for you.
"Andy Reid has to wait another year."
the throws brady was making on those 3rd downs were just insane
he is the goat and you cant not be in awe hes doing this at 40
I don't know how many times Brady has to go down field without feeling any pressure before opposing teams figure it out. If you put a beating on him he will fold. If you don't he will bbq your asses.
The good news is I won't be watching any more football in 2019 until training camps start.

Dodgers-Sox redux
I can't bring myself to taunt my KC friend. He was so happy to get Reid. For years I've been telling him. And for years I've been right.
This go round, the loss wasn't really on Andy though. So I'll leave him to his misery in peace.

I've had the same experience with three Chiefs fan friends. They still love Reid. They will learn this man exists to crush your dreams.
Remember when Brady was fresh-faced kid, just happy to be there and in awe of winning a Super Bowl?
That was the best announcing by an analyst I've ever heard. Romo was incredible.

infectous excitement for the game and on point analysis. made aikman look terrible.

I can't stand Brees/The Aints but if you mean that non-PI call, yeah they were hosed. That was one of the easiest penalties to call ever. When it happened, I expected to see yellow flags flying from every direction. Farging ridiculous.

Agreed, the two week Brees slop fest would have been border line hara-kiri, but my God that was just beyond comprehension. Obvious PI followed by helmet to helmet contact. I have to feel for their fan base.
How pathetic is the AFC? They can't stop this Patriots team from making the Super Bowl, even when this is maybe the worst version of that team in a decade. If the AFC East were even an average division, this Patriots team would have had 9 wins.

You have nearly 100,000 posts that defy that. Andy mush-rushed him right back into the Super Bowl.
since brady came into the league, the only non brady qbs in the bowl:
manning 4 times
rich gannon
ben twice
flacco
thats it thats the list
As for Romo...
He's great if you're a Patriots fan. That's for sure.
And how many times will they show Robert Kraft's box of Deplorables in the Super Bowl. Vegas should set a line.
Funny thing is, the Patriots fans in my social sphere were complaining about Romo being Anti-Patriot.
Everyone is going to hear what they want to hear, I guess.
From what I heard, Romo was just gushing about a really good young quarterback and the greatest QB of all time playing in the same game.
Romo surprised me with how well he calls games. He knows his shtein and his excitement level keeps me in games I don't really GAS about. He could probably be a coach but if I were him I wouldn't give up this gig for the nonstop grind and scrutiny of coaching. I guess it makes a difference when you're watching from a booth and not being battered every other game.
Reid could never quite get you guys to the top either and this looked pretty much like a classic Reid coached game. Might have been a different outcome if the Chiefs had, you know, a defense.
It seems like really good quarterbacks are the only ex-players who have a clue about most of the things happening on the field, and even their knowledge has an expiration date since the game keeps evolving.
That or the brain damage kicks in later for them.

Did any of you see his press conference today? Now I know why we were over his shtein. I wanted him to win in a bad way but his reaction to that one reporter about "Do you know how hard it is to get to a championship game?" was deja vu. Yes we do fatty and we also know what it feels like to lose a shtein load.
Chiefs fired their DC.
Saints fans are filing lawsuits, boycotting the NFL, & putting up billboards over the non-call.
That's funny as farg.
Who knew there were softer fans out there than Vikings fans?

What time does the game start?
Game? What game? I fell asleep around 8 PM watching some shteinshow trying to pass for a game. I should've watched the Puppy Bowl.
I hope the rest of the NFL appreciates Nick Foles standing between all of us and a Patriots three-peat.
I watched most of it after all.
I have to admit I laughed at the Bud Light Game of Thrones crossover ad.
Also, the last quarterback to score a touchdown in the Super Bowl?
That would be Nick Foles.
That shtein was straight up awful. The game was putrid and watching that team win another trophy was puke-inducing. farg Boston and their arrogant passive-aggressive loser fans too.
I saw one get mad today that someone had the audacity to suggest that the Pats wouldn't make a fourth straight Super Bowl. They're literally the worst.

4 celtics
Do they have a soccer team to put ahead of the Celtics?
Actually yes. The New England Revolution also owned by Kraft. So farg them too.
kraft has not really tried to do much of anything with the rev...he doesnt invest in them and they play in foxboro which makes zero sense for who the soccer crowd is (upwardly mobile white people in the city...who arent shclepping out to the suburbs in the middle of the week for a soccer game at a football stadium)
with that said they are better than the union
lol they flew into providence which makes sense since it's closer to foxboto than Boston
