Unless he's holding out for guarenteed money in the form of a front-loaded signing bonus then I don't know why he wants a "long-term deal". Long term deals are pointless. Did anyone even remotely think that Trotter was going to spend all seven years in Washington? What Westbrook wants is money up front, not a long term deal.

Long term deals = cap casualities. That why I don't get Simon holding out and refusing to sign a one year deal that pays him a boatload upfront and makes him one of the highest paid DT's in the league (especially since the NFL rules are setup that way for Franchise tags). Long term deals do nothing for your earning power. I wonder if they realize this.
