Great idea, it'll be just like the shootouts in hockey
even if you believe 9 inning games run too long no one ever wants to see extra games end they can't go long enough
im more for ties than this...this is little league nonsense. its fine for the minor leagues to keep those games shorter.
the easy fix for mlb is to have an active/inactive list of each game. 2 players, or so, are inactive, which adds an extra arm to your pen that you can use in long games or blowouts. you need to counteract with a pitching change per inning limit but thats a different issue.
Sudden Death EI. Coin flip, winner bats, 1st team to score wins. It's going to be a thing.

MLB exploring the option of automatic IBB instead of making the pitcher throw 4 balls. This would maybe make sense if IBBs were constantly adding 15 minutes to games but they're pretty infrequent as it is and they're probably still faster than any regular 4 pitch at bat.
they have been exploring it for a long time...they actually passed it yesterday per player approval
more than a time saver it makes perfect sense in that the four pitch intentional walk was one of the dumbest things in all of sports
It can take it or leave it. Doesn't matter much to me. It's just ridiculous that they think it's going to impact the speed of the game in any way.
they cant admit it but i think its more about moving baseball out of the early 20th century than it is speeding up the game....i dont know anyone my age who doesnt think its a ridiculous rule...if millennials watched baseball imagine what they would think
Saw a couple different articles about it on FB yesterday and the comments were from mouth breathers who were butt hurt because it takes away the "excitement of a wild pitch allowing runners to advance or score."
Seriously. This is what people were saying. This happens at the professional level with the same regularity of Halley's Comet passing by Earth.
Also read 1 comment by a dude who said that they should only allow the automatic IBB when there are no runners on base. Just gonna let that sink in for a bit.

honest question for you rome
when did you get to be like this...where you hate other people having fun
its gotta be the flamboyant latino....cause he hates joey bats and hates the ricans but loved the 93 phils
93 Phils were wholesome bunch who ate all their veggies and said their prayers every night before bed.
the thing is romey isnt racist....he hates pubs more than almost anyone...but yet he also hates spics celebrating but loves when fat roided up white guys do it when they play for his favorite team
hes an enigma wrapped in puzzle
hes more homer than anything....you know his ass was cheering louder than anyone for TO in 2004
its not just rome...i dont get why people hate passion and happiness. i know for some people its about being butt hurt, for some its about the color of those celebrating. id agree for romey its 100% about being butt hurt.
but there are a ton of people who legit get pissed seeing any kind of celebration especially during baseball. all of these people are white. but i just dont get it. its sports! its fun!
President fargface declined to throw out the first pitch at the Nats game
Small hands problem
i wouldnt go either and dont blame him at all....the dmv might be the most liberal place in the country and his ass would have been booed for days
the story here is shame on the nats for inviting him
I wanted to see the booing
Or for him to take a liner off his empty skull
I grew up in an era where showboating would get you drilled in the batters box. Your own farging teammates would beat the shtein out of you in practice if you showboated during a game. It has nothing to do with race. It has to do with you putting yourself in a position where the spotlight shines on you over the team.
This generation simply looks at it differently. Everything is me, me, me. It's just something that I find distasteful. And I'm not going to apologize because I was brought up to respect the field, the game and most importantly, the opposition.
The histrionics that happen after every tackle in a football game disgusts me. The bat flipping disgusts me. The cocky mouthy bullshtein disgusts me. Shut the farg up, get back in the huddle and do your job. If you hit a home run, act like you've done it before. Is that too much to ask?
I guess it is. But I'm old and white and can't possibly understand other cultures who play the game differently. Right??
I don't think it has anything to do with culture. I think you just don't like seeing people have fun.
lol yea the mets were kicking the crap out of each other for someone smiling after a home run in between sharing 8 balls...the 85 bears were a bunch of choir boys on the field....the pistons played basketball with amazing class. where do you get this shtein from?
romey you worshiped the buddy ryan eagles and nobody talked more trash and did nothing to back it up than them. you arent racist and nobody will accuse you of that but you are a giant homer who gets butt hurt easily. i still love you though.

They were never able to secure a new park, so they are trapped in that warehouse in St. Petes. Feels like a matter of time before they move on, but I am skeptical about Montreal. I remember Expo home games that looked sadder than Tropicana.
No doubt but I think a renaissance in Montreal would be good.
Other options:
New Orleans
Vegas
San Antonio
OKC
San Antonio is a cool little town, but Texas doesn't need more teams. If a team is going to relocate, a region that doesn't have a team would be ideal. Not sure if Vegas can support an MLB team either. Football, yes. Only 1 day a week and draws visiting fans. Baseball fans don't travel like NFL fans do. And if I'm in Vegas for 4 days, sitting in 110 degree temps for 4 hours sounds awful. And if I live in Vegas I'd go to 3 or 4 games a year, tops.
Obviously in Vegas it would be a retractable roof dome but in addition to the tourists the locals could support a team better than what you see in Tampa
San Antonio would support a team because in order for those people to see MLB they have to drive three hours one way to Houston or four plus hours one way to Dallas.
I think baseball and basketball owners are really curious to see how the NFL and NHL do in Vegas.
The other three you mentioned are all cities heavily dependent on fossil fuel energy (San Antonio a bit less than the other two). Trying to figure out what those markets will look like decades in the future is more of a dice roll than the actual dice rolling in Vegas. I was in New Orleans last weekend, and from what little I can remember from the weekend, it didn't exactly seem like a stable and growing place yet.
Vegas has about 600k people, many of whom already have their own team. There's also very little in terms of suburban population to draw from. There's Vegas and then nothing but desert for a couple hours in any direction.
KC is like 100k smaller in population, but there's probably 3x that many people living within a 1 hr drive.
But mostly people go to Vegas for entertainment and baseball isn't entertaining for people who don't genuinely love baseball.
Clark County has more than 2 million people permanently living there. Latest estimate puts it right above the KC metro area. Henderson and North LV have more than 200k people each, so I think we can say the Vegas suburbs is a real thing.
Biggest metro areas without a team are Charlotte, Orlando, San Antonio, Portland, Sacramento, and Vegas, in that order. Of course, that's not the same as the size of the media market or the baseball market. I live in Portland and baseball would fail hard here.
There's a lot of obstacles to it happening (they canceled a series there due to Zika last year for instance), but I think the most fascinating place to move the Rays would be San Juan. I feel like the island would go crazy over that. MLB isn't an organization I associate with risk-taking though.
Wouldn't be surprised to see the A's move to San Jose in a pure follow-the-money move either, but I think the Giants can block it.
Orlando is done giving out stadiums to billionaires. The MLS team self-financed the new stadium and it turned out pretty goddamn spectacular. Orlando could support a team easily but it's not gonna happen. Charlotte would be a good place for the Rays to move.

theyd have a stadium there now but san fran claims san jose as its territory....fresno is a possibility. keeps them in "the market" and puts them in a place with rich people.
i cant see las vegas being able to support an mlb team. the market itself is about right for 2 teams, but 3? i can see the nba possibly working because there are fewer games and the stadium already exists.
puerto rico would need to invest in a new stadium or significantly upgrade the existing one. the island is insanely poor. i cant see how the money would be there. mexico city makes a bit more sense, though it would be tough scheduling thing to pull off.
montreal fell apart for a variety of reasons but a downtown open air ballpark would do well. a big question is does toronto want to welcome 2 AL teams in canada? or another all together? they currently own an entire country marketing wise. if montreal moves back to the NL, look for the marlins to move to the al east. it maybe a requirement when they are sold, to at least be open to the move, kind of like houston having to move to the AL when they were bought.
Stop screwing around with the teams withing driving distance of the Great Florida Swamp. bastiches! :boom

i didnt say you liked him...i said youll cheer your ass off for him if he ever wins an mvp in philly and leads them to the playoffs

I'd cheer for anyone who did Philly a solid. I could still dislike the guy for whatever reason.

Yeah, I know, tear everything up. Anything around more than 3 years must be thrown away. Tradition sucks.
Fine with the DH (and tired of watching pitchers hit ineptly). The automatic intentional walk thing is unnecessary, but whatever. But leave the leagues alone - they're part of the roots of the game.
if there wasnt interleague play....and if the brewers and astros didnt already change leagues....and if theres no longer even an NL and AL office/president/operation....you might be on to something
i get the tradition aspect but call me a millennial but theres nothing traditional about the phillies going to san diego every year. wouldnt it better if they went to baltimore. games start 3 hours earlier and i could go.

Interleague play doesn't bother me, as it still respects the identity of the leagues. The Brewers and Astros switching did bother me some, but probably not as much as it would have if a team like the Phils or Cubs had switched over.
I guess in the end, if it happens, it happens. I'd get over it, and it wouldn't stop me from watching baseball. (Hell, if the 1994 strike didn't do that, nothing will. Damn addiction to the sport.) Much worse and important things have happened this week than the realignment of sports leagues.
Can't say I'd like it, though.
I hate interleague play

I would think Pittsburgh would be in the same division as Philly and Toronto would be in the Norris.

for some reason i was watching clips of perfect games today and that brought me to the wiki page on perfect games. have heard both of these stories before but they are so ridiculous you cant even believe them re-reading them 100 times
QuoteOn June 23, 1917, Babe Ruth, then a pitcher with the Boston Red Sox, walked the Washington Senators' first batter, Ray Morgan, on four straight pitches. Ruth, who had already been shouting at umpire Brick Owens about the quality of his calls, became even angrier and, in short order, was ejected. Enraged, Ruth charged Owens, swung at him, and had to be led off the field by a policeman. Ernie Shore came in to replace Ruth, while catcher Sam Agnew took over behind the plate for Pinch Thomas. Morgan was caught stealing by Agnew on the first pitch by Shore, who proceeded to retire the next 26 batters. All 27 outs were made while Shore was on the mound. Once recognized as a perfect game by Major League Baseball, this still counts as a combined no-hitter.[49][50]
QuoteOn May 26, 1959, Harvey Haddix of the Pittsburgh Pirates pitched what is often referred to as the greatest game in baseball history.[51] Haddix carried a perfect game through 12 innings against the Milwaukee Braves, only to have it ruined when an error by third baseman Don Hoak allowed Félix Mantilla, the leadoff batter in the bottom of the 13th inning, to reach base. A sacrifice by Eddie Mathews and an intentional walk to Hank Aaron followed; the next batter, Joe Adcock, hit a home run that became a double when he passed Aaron on the bases. Haddix and the Pirates had lost the game 1–0; despite their 12 hits in the game, they could not bring a run home. The 12 perfect innings–36 consecutive batters retired in a single game—remains a record.[52]
the most insane part of the last story is eddie matthews bunted. with hank aaron on deck. eddie matthews with a career 885 OPS and 512 homers farging bunted. that year he hit 46 homers and had a 390 obp. so they had a runner at 1st and 2 hall of famers up and neither got to swing the bat and they still won. baseball is lovely.
To me, that's the magic of baseball. The rules are constructed so that there's only a small number of things that can happen at any given moment, but because of the sheer number of games, innings, at-bats, pitches, etc., virtually every combination of odd events that is capable of happening will happen at some point. Strangest of all, the Phillies even won the World Series a couple of times.

Not saying that bunting Mathews was a good thing, but Adcock was no slouch (.822 OPS lifetime, .874 in 1959) either.
The more baseball I watch, the more I like it. I'm getting old I guess. It doesn't hurt that my home town has such a great ball park, or (at present) a loveable team. I've been to three games so far this season, hope to make five or six more. I'm considering going alone even.
Get ready for more of Dio's hot takes on shtein he knows nothing about.
Also, I farging love radio broadcasts of baseball. shtein can be mesmerizing.
Yes!
I love baseball on the radio.
Some of my fondest memories that I think back to often all involve listening to the Phils on the radio. The crackle of the AM signal. Harry and Whitey on the call. They let the game breathe and chunks of silence weren't foreign like many sports casts today.
Summer nights down the canal listening to the Phils while fishing with my grandpop and cousins. Or sitting on the porch in Cape May after a shower and a long day at the beach listening to the games.
When we moved away it killed me to not be able to listen. As soon as we would come home for our summer trip I was searching for 1210's signal in the car when we hit the state line.
One night in Kansas I was actually able to pick up the Phillies on 1210. Shocked the farg out of me. I opened my window and put foil on the antenna and I picked it up. 1210 was a powerful station. It stayed strong for awhile and then faded out.
I can remember listening on my grandfather's old radio (probably c1965 or so) in his garage. Harry and Whitey (or Musser) on the call. Late 70s / early 80s they didn't play many home games on TV either.
I was going through some old baseball cards the other day and I came across one I had autographed by Denny McLain. I met him at a card show. I started reading his Wiki page. What a farging mess and what a waste of talent. Dudes gotta weigh 4 bills now

i went to detroit for a few days for some reason....was at the tigers game on sunday.
-comerica park isnt half bad. they have a lot of statues of tigers all over the place, which i thought was really cool but others thought was tacky.
-instead of having an wall of fame type of deal, hey just place historical things in the concourse of the park. kinda tough to see it and read it when theres 100 people trying to get by.
-the statue of ty cobb i get...but man he was a horrible horrible human and its not like thats a big secret.
-they have a standing room section basically in the middle of the 100 level, which is really cool.
-saw a guy in the crowd wearing a "white lives matter" tank top. so theres that.
-the park is directly next to ford field...like hugging it basically. its also across the street from the fox theater, which is where trump bragged about his dick during one of the repub debates. history!
-they had a bunch of tiger stadium memorabilia and pictures, but its in some pretty random places in the park. they also have 2 different merry go rounds. i dont know.
all in all not a bad park but beneath the bank. also detroit is a cool city and super cheap. also its the same size as philly but with less than half the population, so it feels like a ghost town. and a lot of people are on drugs.

the could buy melancon right now from the giants but he sucks. robertson is a perfect fit for them and the sox know that...nats NEED him more than they need the prospects back. neshak could be a fit for them but hes a middle reliever. madson and casilla could go from the a's. addison reed from the mets.

I agree.
They're in a bad spot because they're gonna be held hostage. I don't know enough about their minors but are they stacked?
Lol
SNY analyst Keith Hernandez was caught in an unfortunate spot tonight when the broadcast came back from commercial early and caught him unaware right as he was discussing how Washington Nationals starter Tanner Roark has been "getting his tits lit" lately.
Roark was knocked out in the third inning tonight after giving up six runs, after giving up seven runs in five innings last week. It is not immediately clear if such numbers meet the standard for getting one's lit, as such a standard could not be identified at the time of this writing.

I'll await lil guy to drop his hot takes on being an old guy but the facts are baseball is not what it was. Situational hitting is all but gone. The pitch counts which I hate suck - 466 times in 2000 a pitcher went for 120+ pitches. No one steal bases or bunts or throws to the right bases.

anyway the game is not dying. mike trout, bryce harper, aaron judge and kris bryant are among the best players to come along in forever. attendance is up. local tv ratings are strong. baseball games are, in most markets, the highest rated summer program (i.e. more people watch royals games in KC than any other program in KC). are the national ratings bad? most of the time, yes.
but last i checked the tv contract they signed is massive. salaries are going up. teenagers with no experience are getting million dollar contracts. harper, trout and machado are going to sign for a combined 1 billion dollars. the game is not dying.
i dont think theres really even such thing as pitch counts unless someone is coming off an injury
the prevailing factor in taking pitchers out is because there are more live arms now in the world and manager and general managers have figured out that its better to bring in a fresh wade davis and kelvin herrera than an 82 pitch jeremy guthrie
yesetrday scherzer tossed a million pitches because the nats have no bullpen (and dusty baker is a moron)
the problem with baseball is not that the sport has changed....in fact the game itself compared to other sports has been remarkable the same for 130 years but it has more competition now...it used to go against horse racing and boxing....then the superbowl started then magic and bird came then brandy chastain strip teased the nation...its been chipped away for decades by sports that people deem better to watch and dont underestimate this - easier to play
baseball is more like hockey now in that its a local sport....if you have a team its probably going to do great...however people in nebraska will watch the nfl or nba but they arent gonna give a shtein about baseball or hockey

the sport is the biggest crapshoot relevancy wise. cubs-yankees would beat the nfl, dbacks-blue jays could be played in siberia and nobody would notice.

I understand why you're like this - I mean, you didn't play and grew up in the SABR era where everything is all about spreadsheets.
Everything I said is valid. The bottom line is teams get a runner(s) on and wait for a home run. If you watch you'll see guys come up and try to rip a ball rather than just move a runner over. They swing from their heels and end up striking out (which is a yuge problem as the numbers are up) and stranding runners. Ok yeah of course there are a lot of harder throwers - which only goes back to what I am saying - just get the bat on the ball and play station to station rather than trying to launch a ball.
You named about the only three guys who steal bases. Congrats. My point still stands. Why have a guy try to steal when you're hoping for the next two/three guys jack a home run?
Half the dudes don't even know how to bunt - so when they have to get a bunt down - they look like fools.
And what does the coke fueled 80s or roid 90s have to do with the fact that baseball was played differently then? People played more fundamentally sound.
im not even close to a billy bean type guy and wouldnt say dont EVER bunt like a lot of seam heads do but overwhelmingly bunting is a stupid strategy...youd do best to just get that idea out of your arguments because it devalues everything else you say especially to nerds
and baseball was more "fundamental" in the past because the players werent as good.....bat control is harder to pull off when the ball is coming at you 10 mph faster...its the same old timers argument in the nba...the players in the 80's were so much more fundamental...well of course they were because they werent as talented
I can see that.
Pitchers throwing harder? Adjust and use a lighter bat if they have a problem with their bat control and getting it through the zone.
I don't even want bunting all the time. But there are times when situations dictate a bunt getting laid down and half these fools look like idiots trying to do it. Better yet - when they have an extreme shift on against them and they stupidly swing away and either ground right into the shift or strikeout trying to yank one.
Rizzo, who Maddon moved to lead off, laid a bunt down the other day in this situation and I about cried tears of joy.
Quote from: PhillyPhreak54 on June 22, 2017, 10:18:06 AMPitchers throwing harder? Adjust and use a lighter bat if they have a problem with their bat control and getting it through the zone.

rizzo probably did this on his own and hes a farging idiot. hes a great hitter swinging a hot bat and he intentionally recorded an out. it was very stupid.
He got on base with it, genius.
And the bigger picture says that even if the out is recorded, not necessarily by Rizzo but any hitter bunting against the shift, it sets them up for future hits as they may not shift against the hitter the next time...or not shift as extreme.
you said "laid down a bunt." not "got a bunt hit." the farg am i supposed to know.
and if you want to talk about hitting against a shift, talk about your hero choke who never not once hit the ball the other way on the ground. did wonders for his career.

im not saying you are wrong but is there numbers to back this "bigger picture" up....the shift is relatively new and bunting has been on the outs for a while...is there really a large enough sample size to support this...plus the people tracking this would have to actually notate that the next time this person was up in that exact situation that the shift wasnt as extreme...
also it would be such a rare occurrence and mostly unsuccessful that i think even with a shift on the defense would welcome a bunt try every time
Schwarber was sent down
Some writers picked him for MVP this season lolol
Mets reliever Blevins walks a guy to load the bases in the b7. Two outs. Dodgers leading by one.

And now he walks another guy!

Yeah I was watching it when it happened. Poor farger. He tried to walk it off and just went down like he was shot.
And that Guaranteed Rate Field is an awful name. The Sox wanted them to change their logo on display because it has an arrow pointing down. They told them to farg off. The Sox still took the money.

I've been watching parts of a few of their games this year, especially since the Phils are usually done before they are. That team is fun to watch.
Yeah they are. They sucked and got Correa and Springer
Phillies got Mickey Moniak
springer doesnt count he wasnt even a top ten pick
first overall they got correa...appel and brady aiken....whiffed on two of them
but to your point they got one draft with a transformational player at the top....phillies will have moniak and next years 1 which looks to be as weak or weaker than the top of the moniak draft...puke
whats crazy about houston is in their rebuild/tank they got three number one overalls and a number 2 overall....they make hinkie look like a tank amateur
And they found Altuve - who basically begged for a tryout
Also signed Gurriel and he's raking
those are just regular baseball moves that any team any time can hit on...in the phillies rebuild they will probably (hopefully) have one or two guys like that
the problem is getting two number one overalls and no transcendent talent at the top in either draft
Yeah, don't forget in the 2008 team they had Werth, who the signed on a flier in 2007 after missing the entire 2006 season with a wrist injury, and Victorino, who they picked up in the Rule 5 draft. Every good team gets a handful of these savvy/lucky signings.

he could easily come to the phillies...like you said they have unlimited money to spend on buying a team much less one player
its gonna be tough to sign harper when theyll use their unlimited money to sign lorenzo cain, jd martinez and jay bruce this winter. but i guess you can just trade bruce and sign harper.
Why would he ever agree to play in Philly? It's not LA, New York or even Chicago and if he wanted to settle for playing in a secondary market, he could just stay in DC.
Even you two knuckleheads see that, right?

you have to build from your system first and then you can try to fill in with free agents...and even when you go after free agents you have to have an appealing franchise and then you have to outbid the other big boys in the league for the best free agents
1. their system hasnt done shtein yet
2. they are not a destination for anyone
3. they still have to prove they can outbid the big boys (once they are on an even playing field with them as far as free agent appeal)
again you cant buy a team in baseball so buckle in tight for another three or four years and maybe then they will be competing for a playoff spot

the yankees yes are setting themselves up for some big free agency hauls but the mets have no money and the cubs have long term deals to their own stars to consider, plus some lengthy expensive contracts for heyward, lester, zobrist, etc.

I posted the same picture in the racism thread. I debated which thread to put it into, and after thinking about it, it probably should be in both anyway. Too important to ignore.
I've read a history book or two, and can definitively say that racism is way more American than baseball. Baseball is more of a Dominican thing nowadays anyway.
So are they for it or against it?
Unclear what their intent was. But it has the word racism in it so it must be newsworthy, controversial, and teachable somehow. Kinda hoping it was just a Foxwoods stunt hoping to create a viral meme with their logo in it. Nothing like shedding that white guilt by losing several paychecks to the red man.

How appropriate that they hung it in the most racist city in the country. Also - how anyone could misinterpret the meaning is beyond me. Racism is as woven into the fabric of this country as baseball. Durrr... I don't get it.

Hard to ridicule the miscues & perpetual brain farts of Fatty, Jed Clampett Manuel or Pederson as long as Dusty continues to manage in the major leagues. Wow.
absolutely insane him taking out scherzer
I love watching the Nats gag out another season. farg them. Go Cubbies!
so 15 years ago in the same park dusty leaves prior and wood in too long and ruins their arms/the pennant
now he cant leave a top 5 pitcher on the planet, in the 7th inning, on 1 hit and 98 pitches. TO BRING IN SAMMY SOLIS.
haha dusty says he's still going with Roark today wtf

Poor wittle Strasburg has the sniffles
Give me a farging break
What a Hoyda
Not exactly the mold of a champion, is it?
now he's starting
The Nats sure put the fun in dysfunction.
I hope they get obliterated.

BREAKING: Stephen Strasburg sneezed twice on team bus to Wrigley Field, will be "monitored closely" and put on his usual 48-pitch count.
stras on point
didnt see that coming
I thought he'd be lights out if he pitched but I didn't think he'd go
man is he untouchable today
Lester has been great and done exactly what you want keep a 1-0 early lead 1-0 late and hope stras tires or gets out of there and work the pen
let's do this W
that sinker change is just devastating
Just got home...let's go Cubbies
Wow
Game five here we come
CC sucks? Not tonight. so far he's got the Indians by the jugular.
if my math is correct aaron judge is 1-19 with 16 k's in the series
Yes-in-Didi is the only reason they've got a shot...i fell asleep and just woke up a bit ago and saw the scoring summary
Indians bats are cold
Huge errors by Cleveland along with Allen refusing to go breaking ball to Gardner and here we are
Looks like I'll be watching the Yanks on Friday night at MM. really wanted to see Cleveland vs Houston ALCs
yanks pulled off the 0-2 series comeback :yay i like to think the fan support from you guys helped a little. 8)
baseball is better when the yankees are involved
they are as a detestable team as they come but there is no comparison to nyy/hou and cle/hou
I say Astros in 6
Dodgers vs whichever team in 5
That's a lot of faith in the Dodgers.
Just like with all teams that I follow...I know there's an inevitable implosion coming.
go cubs go
Nice three straight two out hits off Scherzer
LOLNATS
how is scherzer still in
nats imploding
eagles winning
rough night for my man in hanover
id much rather have the nats lose than eagles win
Dusty.
cubs are shaky as shtein right now but if they can hold on what a magical night
this is the longest 9 inning game in the history of baseball
this will unequivocally be the worst of all the nats nlds losses and if this was the phils i would jump into traffic
i just dont know how davis gets thru this inning....he was toast last inning
and madden has no options
PLEASE
and gross bryce could be the last out
ahahahahahahahahahahha
< clears throat >
CHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOKE!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
BWAHAHAA
how in the farg did the cubs win that
the dc sports curse is next level
2 out and no one on in the 7th and the cubs get seven consecutive baserunners
then wade davis gets seven outs....hes never had a six out save
then a back up catcher gets picked off first in a one run game
you cant make this stuff up
You gotta hear Kurkgian on SVP's show. He's on the verge of tears over how unfair it is that they keep losing.
Oh my god booo hooo hoooooooo!
How perfect that Brycie made the final out too.
Someone Baker Act poor old Dusty. Jesus...
houston doesnt count cause its population is fake but the four largest cities in the country on paper made the championship series...unless phoenix is 4th?
I'm curious as to how you think the population is fake? I mean...I sit in this traffic all day and it doesn't seem fake to me.
Beautiful gutsy back foot slider by Wade Davis to strike out that ho
its square mileage is like the size of rhode island....urban sprawl bullshtein
for perspective philly sq miles is 141....houston is over 600....its a joke
Well yeah...pretty much how it is for cities outside the NE and Chicago.

places like jacksonville pheonix and houston
LA? ATL?
I mean we are talking big cities here. Not little holes in the wall like Jacksonville or Cleveland or Kansas City.
Like I said....pretty much places outside the NE and Chicago are sprawl
Jacksonville is 875 square miles of shopping centers.
atl 134
la 503
la is a little sprawly but its also farging LA with a real big downtown
houston is a zesty downtown surrounded by awful developments that should be suburbs but arent cause they want to artifically inflate their awful cities population
seattle 83
denver 155

Took two customers to the game last night. It was a fun tense playoff atmosphere as far as the game went.
Was a little surprised at the amount of empty seats in the upper deck. It filled in a bit as the game went on but still. And wasn't as loud as you'd expect for a game like that. It did get amped when the play at the plate happened though.
You're surprised that a bunch of corporate iceholes, who spend more time taking selfies than watching the game, were indifferent to the outcome?
lolyankees
Helluva game
Old school ace performance by Verlander
Choke job by Sanchez on the throw home
Astros deserved to lose and it is Hinch's fault
He took McCullers out at 81 pitches
go bombers
Rooting for the Yanks vs who?
Well it's gonna be the Dodgers. Cubs couldn't hit if you were pitching.
And the Cubs bullpen is a disgrace. Holy shtein they're bad
I wouldn't be mad at all of the Yanks won. I'm already sick of the bandwagon fans here
against anyone left but especially Houston
Lol at not cheering against the farging Yankees.
I have a feeling he's trying to dig on me when I really don't care if the Astros win or lose
i cant do it for the mets....i hate them with all my being...but ill generally root for a real northeast sports city over anywhere else in the country
then you have texas which is especially despicable and houston is straight garbage whether you lived there or not

Verlander wins tomorrow and Dodgers win in 6
I want Chase to win another ring and I want him to get it sized large enough to fit over his middle finger so he can flip off the dicks in here who spent a decade hating him.
And because Chuggie is our friend and deserves a win.
GRIT is an absolutely awful player right now as he should be at his age and an additional ring for him would actually be an embarrassment not an accomplishment....and i think he would even admit that even if his stans wont
He deserves it for just being "The Man."
Oh and older players don't deserve it because they're past their prime?

I don't see how getting a ring at any stage of ones career would be an embarrassment. He's definitely a shell of his former self but good ball clubs keep experienced veterans like him around for a reason.
There are certain players who have left Philly who I cheered for to get another ring, he certainly falls into that category. I understand why you're not a fan because he was loved and overrated by fans in your eyes...mostly because he's a white salt of the Earth type...again in the eyes of Phil's fans. but take all that away and he was a great player for the Phillies and they don't win the WS without him.
FYI I hate the frighten Dodgers

Connie Mack was born during the civil war
Typing Scully as Skully makes me imagine Vin wearing a beanie cap
Pretty interesting nugget of info there
Gotta admit...Joe Buck calling Puig the Miley Cyrus of baseball made me laugh.
The Scully ceremony with Fernando was awesome
And the Doyers go up 3-1 again on a 2R homer in the 6th again. Two out walk by Verlander sparked it
I can't see Houston winning if they go down 2-0.
Was gonna go to bed, glad I stayed up. Helluva game.
Yeah that was good
Getting runs off Morrow and Jansen was a huge momentum swing. Fighting back after Dodgers tied it up was cool.

roberts over managed the farg out of that game. theres no reason with a 2 run lead in a 3-1 game he needs to bring kenley in for a 6 out save. wasted too many arms. that dude has done everything right for 2 years but messed up this one.

I figured this would be the game they lost at home but not bc of the bullpen but bc LA touched Morton up.
if Keuchel wins tomorrow the Astros take it in six
Oh no doubt. I don't expect them to win gm5. But there's always a chance old playoffs Clayton makes an appearance.

jansen for 6 outs. has failed twice. lets do a 3rd.
I used to enjoy, as a 10-16 year old, buying his guide and looking at who he compares players to in there.
Easy 8th for Jansen...needs an easy ninth too to have any hope of being effective tomorrow
kershaw might take away the need for him
this can't be good for Jansen, been sitting for awhile but then again the Astros look like they just ran into a tree trunk at max speed.
More big celebrity shots please. Mary Hart, Larry King, Justin Bateman, real movers and shakers there.
It's not even cocky, Dodgers know they got this. Basically just show up tomorrow night.
This lineup is a bunch of kids and they are not phased one bit by the big spotlight.
Holy farg, look at how fast Dodger Stadium clears out. "Hey we win, OK, grab my jacket and lets get the hell out of here"
I think LA takes it
I'm glad we have a game 7.
Darvish won't get shelled again. I think he's on. And then they'll use Kershaw as a bridge to Jansen if need be.
Imagine if this was the Dodgers/Yankees in Game 7.

Umm... wut?
If you can afford $3,600 for two tickets, I'm pretty sure leaving work early to get to the yard isn't an issue.
It's LA. Traffic is always an issue, game 7 or not. Stupid clickbait article.

Smart move would be to pick up a hooker so you can use the car pool lane
its an all around hideous piece...then again rovell
nothing maybe dumber than this
Game 7 of the World Series at Dodger Stadium will be one of the most expensive tickets in baseball history.
baseball history is irrelevant....the only comparison is game sevens in the stubhub ticket era and in that case every game 7 from here on out will be "one of" the most expensive tickets in "baseball history"....the lowest game 7 is for a long time still going to be one of the most expensive
anything look good for tonight?
hou +1.5 (-140) +137
la -1.5 (+120) -157
i like the astros RL but -140 damn
under 7.5 paying even. hmmm.
Pretty sure I'll just be taking the Doyers ML straight up
Playing the RL is dangerous on the home team because there's a shot you only get 8 innings of ABs from them. But I have done it. This series with all the back and forth and no lock down BPs I wouldn't get on any RL's.
i feel ya but the game is more or less a toss up and here you get an astros win and a 1 run dodgers win covered. paying the -140 vig isnt appealing.
i may just go with the under 7.5 and bank on another low scoring game.

Yeah -150 was my limit...my guy's site is showing -160 now
People are slamming the Dodgers I guess. Astros are up to +140
Bellinger = New Choke
That dude has been AWFUL pretty much the entire series. Seager not far behind him when he keeps getting eaten up by low and in breaking balls.
I was way wrong on Darvish - he got smoked again
5-0
What a lousy start. Hope LA fights back and makes it close

series went from arguably the single best ws to not even top 5

That dude wants absolutely nothing to do with pitching in the WS. I don't know if he's battling some sort of injury or not (I think he's had TJ), but his pitches have almost no movement on them at all. Might as well just set up the tee.
QuoteWhat a lousy start. Hope LA fights back and makes it close
It's early, but they blew a golden opportunity in the 1st. McCullers is wild tonight so LA needs to get after him early because I don't think he's going to be around much longer.
QuoteThe dude who has $14m on the Dodgers isn't feeling good right now
Lol....what? I must have missed that.
Yeah some [igy]chain smoking jean jacket wearing euro trash dude[/igy] bet $400k on game one and picked the first six games right - he ran it up to $14m by parlaying the winnings from each game. Has it all riding on LA tonight
Another squandered opportunity for LA
That's nuts. Almost makes me want to root for the Astros.
Lol....Seager finally gets a hit and stumbles after turning 1st and nearly gets picked off.
McCullers is hitting guys left and right.
New Choke is up. 2 on, no out.
16k for Sellinger in the WS. Stros going to the pen.

Former Braves GM John Coppolella banned for life; 9 players declared free agents. (http://www.foxnews.com/sports/2017/11/21/former-atlanta-braves-gm-john-coppolella-given-lifetime-ban-from-baseball.html)
EDIT: CBS says 12 players; ESPN 13.
Quote
Most notable among the players the Braves will lose is Kevin Maitan, an infielder from Venezuela who signed for $4.25 million in 2016.
Other "high-value" players the Braves will lose include Juan Contreras, Yefri del Rosario, Abrahan Gutierrez, Juan Carlos Negret, Yenci Peña, Yunior Severino, Livan Soto and Guillermo Zuniga.
Three more international signees -- Brandol Mezquita, Angel Rojas and Antonio Sucre -- were declared free agents. The team's contract with prospect Ji-Hwan Bae, which was not yet final, was disapproved. Finally, the Braves were banned from signing prospect Robert Puason in the 2019-20 signing period.
...
Therefore, the Braves will be prohibited from signing any international player for more than $10,000 during the 2019-20 signing period. Also, the team's international signing bonus pool for the 2020-21 signing period will be reduced by 50 percent.
The Braves already cannot give an international signing bonus of more than $300,000 for 2017-18 and 2018-19 as penalties for exceeding their signing bonus pools under baseball's previous labor contract.
And there is still more discipline to be handed down.
Manfred said he intends "to discipline other Braves international baseball operations employees who participated in the misconduct."
Holy shtein that's huge
maitan was in baseball americas top 100 prospects before ever playing a single professional game

he was afraid of the east coast not the big market
Or he wanted to be six hours by plane closer to Japan. Either way he picked a team in a huge market with a large Asian population nearby. In other words he did exactly what any reasonable person would have expected him to do.
hes not going home to japan btwn series so the length of flight means nothing....also asian population means nothing...im married to one so im keen to the fact that they all despise each other...but yes LA has a massive japanese population and that matters a lot
Stanton is gonna be a Yankee isnt he?
And why is Miami having a fire sale anyways when they were just sold.
the dodgers are a big market team but the angels are not
i dont care if theyre "in" the LA market they are as small time as you can get
so stanton to the yankees for starlin casto and some middling prospects....yanks taking on most of if not all of his deal, which is the key
this is great news for the phillies as it not only turns the marlins into even more of an AAA team but it takes away their biggest competitor for manny machado next offseason.
So the Marlins are basically a new AAA Yankees affiliate.
What a joke. The funny thing is Stanton is going to get killed financially in this deal thanks to the state and city taxes he'll be paying in NYC.
And as usual MLB will bend over and allow the Yankees to do whatever the farg they want. Oh and no insider business being conducted by Jeter and the team he played for for two decades.
Nope. None at all. Nothing to see here. Move along...
Those are some pretty hot takes, Rome. A couple questions though:
- What's likely to be a bigger amount? The 12% income tax hit moving to NYC, or the increased endorsements playing in the media capital of the world, for the most world famous team in baseball, versus a backwater Florida team no one gives a shtein about?
- What other teams that Stanton was willing to play for were lining up to eat that deadly contract?
Stanton had a no trade clause, meaning that the primary person who decided the destination team was Giancarlo Stanton himself.
He refused to waive his NTC for the Cardinals, but StL claims they had s deal in place for the trade. Don't know how much salary they were willing to take on.
The trade is suspect though because it makes absolutely no sense on paper. The Marlins got a solid player in the deal but the prospects are a crap shoot. They'd need to hit to hit on 2 or 3 of and have them be contributing factors in a WS title or 2 in order for this trade to be considered fair or balanced 10 years from now.
Marlins are probably going to deal Ozuna and Yelich too
Why even do this? I hate when teams have fire sales. Takenthat team from Miami and put them in a market who gives a shtein. Tampa and Miami need to relocate
Yuck The Fankees.

It's a pure salary dump, not a baseball move. You don't trade the MVP of the league and get better. They are lowering payroll. I think the team had negative cash flow the last few years under Loria. If you can't even make money with the MVP on the team, might as well go cheap.
Negative cash flow? Haaaaa! They literally stole money for a couple of decades. They were the MLB equivalent of a welfare queen.
Loria made loads of money on appreciation of the franchise (which is only realized at sale), and all publicly funded stadiums are scams perpetrated on the taxpayer, but Forbes estimates the team had negative operating income three of the last five seasons. Net income was likely lower than that. No matter how much money was printed in the past (largely from previous fire sales like this one), writing personal checks to cover expenses is not something that the kind of people who own teams like to sustain for very long. I don't think Derek Jeter was too interested in doing that, either.
of course romey is still getting his panties in a knot about the yankees like this is the late 90s
stanton wanted to play for LA or NY and LA simply didnt have enough money to take him on. so it was really always about the yankees. they got the cash and like i mentioned, them taking on this deal and not being able to affod machado is great for your fightins.

i know people like owning teams for the sake of owning them but i dont know how the marlins can be successful financially. i mean if they have a 50 mil payroll i guess but really no matter what they do they will never sell tickets. their tv deal is always going to be bad because nobody will watch. with that payroll they will never achieve consistent success.
maybe jeter is trying to leverage this into another team down the line. or maybe hes derek jeter and just bored with banging models.
Once you factor in revenue sharing, they are a profitable team at the payroll they are shooting for. They can always catch lightning in a bottle for a couple of years with cheap young guys, but it does seem impossible for them to be successful long term both financially and on the field. Has to be one or the other.
They have kind of oscillated back and forth between the two for their whole history, which is maybe not a terrible idea, since it results in both making money and occasionally winning. But having success only to see it rapidly sold off is a harsh fan experience, which has caused long term damage to the viability of the team.
Ultimately they need more interest in the team, beyond just Marlins Man. Having a celebrity who is associated with winning baseball be the face of the team isn't the worst idea in the world. Still seems unlikely to turn the franchise around.
derek jeter isnt selling 1 extra ticket and the fact that they traded their best player for literally nothing is going to kill them further.
a good portion of their available fan base hates them and the others are northeast transplants already committed to the yanks, sox, phils, mets, etc. they arent going to move but they really should.
I agree with you guys. The fact that Loria was able to scam Miami out of the stadium was criminal.
Captain Jetes isn't going to resurrect them. He's already pissing fans and alums off with petty moves and now they're going to send Stanton, Gordon, Yelich and Ozuna packing.
i mentioned this during the season when it was clear that this is what the marlins were going to do, but i wouldnt hesitate to take on the dead money of chen's salary if it meant yelich
